You are not a life coach. You are not a motivational speaker. You are a merchant of hope.In a world increasingly gripped by depression, high anxiety, and shifting societal pressures, what is the true assignment of the believer and the church? Pulling from the bedrock truths of 1 Corinthians 13:13, this powerful message cuts through religious noise to remind us of the three pillars that must remain in the house of God: Faith, Hope, and Love. The speaker challenges pastors and believers alike to look past superficial markers of success and anchor their ministries in what truly matters to heaven. Discover why these three elements are completely non-negotiable for walking out your calling:Faith That Pleases God: Why the Lord isn't tracking your lifestyle metrics, but looking for a relentless, active faith that finishes the race.Merchants of Hope: Why the church must reject hopeless narratives and aggressively preach that while weeping may endure for a night, joy must come in the morning. The Supremacy of Love: How faith works by love and hope is sustained by love. Learn what it means to open your heart past tribalism, community bias, and conditional grace to love as Christ loved.
Sermon preached at East Frankfort Baptist Church on May 3, 2026 during evening worship.
We're living in a fractured world, pulled in a thousand directions, unsure what it actually means to live a good life. In this episode, I talk with Alan Noble about virtue, telos, and how prudence, justice, courage, temperance, faith, hope, and love reorient us toward a life that is whole, grounded, and shaped by the way of Jesus. We explore decision-making, suffering, agency, and hope - and what it looks like to actually embody these virtues in everyday life.Dr. O. Alan Noble is Associate Professor of English at Oklahoma Baptist University, a fellow at the Keller Center for Cultural Apologetics, and author of four books, including: To Live Well: Practical Wisdom for Moving Through Chaotic Times, On Getting Out of Bed: The Burden and Gift of Living, and You Are Not Your Own: Belonging to God in an Inhuman World. Dr. Noble has published articles at The Atlantic, The Gospel Coalition, First Things, and Christianity Today. He lives in Oklahoma City with his wife and three children.Alan's Book:To Live WellAlan's Recommendation:The Quest for CommunityConnect with Joshua: jjohnson@shiftingculturepodcast.comGo to www.shiftingculturepodcast.com to interact and donate. Were you ever surprised that God answered your prayer? It was not the church's finest hour when Peter, miraculously released from prison, showed up at the prayer meeting, and the believers didn't believe that God had answered their prayer - while they were praying it! Today Jim will conclude his three-part message on faith and prayer. We'll look at the petitions of a prophet and a righteous king, and we'll see how God receives our prayers in Heaven. We'll pick up the sermon in the book of Acts. Sometimes we give our problem to the Lord in prayer... and we think He won't notice when we take it right back. Yesterday we began to think together about prayer - how it grows out of our faith, and then nurtures our faith in return. Today we'll see some examples from the very early days of the church. Granted, these were extraordinary times, and God was shaping the course of history through these prayers, but we'll find that the principles work on the smaller scale of our lives, as well. How strong is your faith? How's your prayer life? And do we realize that those are the same question? Only those with faith can pray - really pray - and when we do pray, our faith grows. But that feedback loop works in reverse, too, and many Christians find it easy to seek answers in the "self help" section, and difficult to seek God. Here's a message that should help all of us, then. It's called, Faith, Hope, Love in Prayer, and here's Jim with Part 1. This week, Pastor Abraham returns to bring us into our new series in Colossians, Jesus Is Enough! We start our series diving right into Colossians 1:1-8 and how Paul's message to the Colossians relates to our perspective today.
God uses faith, hope, and love to great affect in our lives. We are the constant beneficiaries of them. We are blessed and we bless others when we operate in faith, hope, and love.
Pastor Travis of Impact Church delivered an unforgettable sermon titled Under the Influence of Faith, Hope, and Love, blending real-life stories, bold truth, and timeless scripture to ignite hope and challenge hearts. He shared his own journey from being arrested at 17 to finding freedom in Christ that same night, showing how God can turn any situation around. This powerful message explored what influences us—fear, sin, or faith—and revealed how living under God's influence brings freedom, purpose, and lasting impact. With practical wisdom from Galatians 5 and a fresh look at 1 Corinthians 13, Pastor Travis invited everyone to step into a life of bold faith, unshakable hope, and transformational love. Whether you're searching for change or just curious, this message will leave you inspired and ready to live differently.
