    As parents, it's natural to look for answers when your child continues to struggle with regulation, sleep, energy, or emotional balance. In a recent episode of the Autism Family Resource Podcast, we explored these questions with Dr. Jeffrey Knight, focusing on how the body, gut, and nervous system are deeply interconnected. Regulation Is More Than Behavior Regulation challenges are often viewed through a behavioral lens alone. While strategies and therapies are incredibly important, they are just one part of the picture. A child's nervous system is influenced by many internal factors, including inflammation, digestion, sleep quality, and overall physical stress on the body. When the body is under stress, the nervous system may stay in a heightened state, making regulation more difficult despite a child's best efforts. The Gut–Brain Connection Research continues to highlight the strong relationship between the gut and the brain. Gut health can influence mood, attention, sleep, and overall regulation. Inflammation in the body may also impact how efficiently the nervous system functions. This doesn't mean there is one single cause or solution. Rather, it encourages families to look at regulation through a whole-body lens. I'm an IHP Level 1 and have been following you for over 2 years. I'm grateful for all you do. I'm a 61 year old male and take no medication. I've always had elevated cholesterol but it's come down a lot over the last 2 years. I now have LDL of 108. My CRP is in the normal range at 0.41. My homocysteine is also in the normal range at 8.9. My coronary calcium score from almost 3 years ago is 129. I want to make sure my heart stays healthy and want to be smart about what supplements to take apart from the foundational ones like the DNS and Omega 3. If I take all the supplements that promote a healthy heart, it gets a bit expensive and I was wondering if you thought about formulating one supplement to combine some of them. I'm currently taking D3+K2, Red Yeast Rice, Berberine and Inflamma Soothe, and I'm considering adding in Proteolytic Enzymes. What are your thoughts on which ones to prioritize?      Lily: Hi Doc, I am taking the foundational supplements and magnesium. I've come a long way with my health and career thanks to you. I've had many issues in life similar to you. In the last 2 years I feel like I've become very prone to gut issues. I explained why I moved away from pro-athlete travel content - doping concerns, COVID restrictions, visa limits and tax complications. The channel is shifting toward my own journey. On training, I addressed the effort vs pace debate. Context matters. Effort leads, especially when fatigued. I spoke about avoiding the anxiety spiral by focusing on sensation and adaptation rather than numbers and judgment. I touched on influencer culture, unnecessary products, and doping speculation - urging caution without proof. I discussed coaching as an optional performance tool, like super shoes, and may use a coach in an advisor role. I'll likely train mostly in standard shoes and race in super shoes. Current context: I'm around 79 kg and believe 65-66 kg aligns with a 2:12-2:15 goal. I reflected on running 2:20 off ~105 km per week in 2021. I'm considering cycling and stair climbing to maintain fitness while reducing impact and avoiding ego-driven mileage. In this episode of Bendy Bodies, Dr. Linda Bluestein is joined by Dr. Dacre Knight, Medical Director of the UVA Health EDS and Hypermobility Disorders Center, for a wide-ranging conversation about why complex, multisystem conditions continue to fall through the cracks of modern medicine. Together, they explore how siloed healthcare systems, time-limited visits, and overreliance on “normal” labs and imaging contribute to years of delayed diagnosis and unnecessary suffering. The discussion unpacks why patients are often labeled as anxious, functional, or “too complex,” how pattern recognition breaks down when symptoms span multiple systems, and why early diagnosis could prevent much of the downstream complexity clinicians later struggle to manage. Dr. Knight also explains how diagnostic frameworks like the EDS–POTS–MCAS triad can be helpful and where they risk oversimplifying reality.
