Welcome to EXHALE Bible Study, with Dr. Paula McDonald! We are in Chapters 5 & 6 in I Corinthians. In these two chapters Paul covers the topic of sexual immorality and the issue of lawsuits among believers.
Thank you for continuing with us in this study of the book of Corinthians, written by Paul. By now, you have most likely experienced the passion, the urgency behind his letters to the church (and to you and I, as believers). In this chapter, he takes on the serious topic of what is required of us as servants or ministers of Christ. What does it mean to be a faithful follower of Jesus Christ? To what standard are we called to measure ourselves? Judgment of others, or of God?
In Chapter 3, Paul encourages the Corinthians to consider their bodies as "temples" of God. Think about that. In what ways do you treat or not treat your flesh as if it is a temple or sacred place? Do you care for it, nurture it and fill it with the word of God and the fruit of the Spirit? Or are there ways in which your flesh rules your decisions? Consider that Paul's urging to the Corinthians is as relevant to us today as it was to them then.
In Chapter 2 we continue on in Paul's letters to the Corinthians where he seeks to intervene in the division of the church that is happening at the time. Today's lesson focuses on the Proclamation of Christ and the Mind of Christ. With only sixteen verses, this chapter is brief but packed with an important and convicting message about Jesus Christ.
Welcome to Exhale Bible Study! Today we are in the first chapter of 1 Corinthians and we are digging into the letters of Paul. Paul is not one for mincing words, and true to his style he gets straight to the point in the beginning of this chapter. In his letter to the Corinthians, he identifies himself as an apostle (ambassador or messenger) of Christ "by the will of God." Paul begins then by calling into account the "divided church," and points to the calling we have as children of Christ to put aside differences.
