This episode of Grrrl Talk is the conclusion of Kortney and Tahverlee’s overview of the Self Love Success Academy workbook from Grrrl.com. If you have been joining us on this journey and you are doing your soul-work, use the hastags #2020project and #grrrltalk to connect with other women who are in it with you. On page 14 of the workbook, we pick up with strategies for (attempting to) maintain life balance:· Turn off your phone – or at least turn off your notifications· Say “no”· Do something for you· Learn something new· Table for one, please· Minimize the things that don’t fulfill you – including people· Have funFinally, Kortney and Tahverlee discuss personal values, beginning with the Grrrl values of honesty, forgiveness, respect, service, and laughter. Every person is going to have different values and priorities, so it is important to express yourself and your values to those around you and also be respectful of their values as well. This can be uncomfortable, but it is a necessary part of growth in your relationships with yourself and with others. Once you are firm in your goals, you can start to dream and also segment those big dreams into tangible short-term and long-term goals to help you get there. The next step is to create awareness by writing down and sharing your story, recognizing that everything you have experienced has purpose and should be passed along for the benefit of others. If you love Grrrl Talk and you want to take your listening experience to the next level, join the Grrrl Gang and become a premium member of the podcast on Himalaya, which will give you early access to each podcast episode and exclusive content as well!Links:Self Love Success Academy: https://www.grrrl.com/self-love-academy/ “Indistractable” book: https://www.amazon.com/Indistractable-Control-Your-Attention-Choose/dp/194883653X Values worksheet:Connect with us:https://www.grrrl.com/https://www.instagram.com/grrrl_clothing/https://twitter.com/GrrrlClothinghttps://www.facebook.com/Likeagrrrl/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8Pt8QEU8_Hao7j1I7poRCQ/ Tahverlee is a Social Impact Entrepreneur, Founder of Tahverlee's Tribe and Spiritual Coach: www.tahverlee.com

Summary:Welcome to the third part of Kortney and Tahverlee’s conversation about self-love on the Grrrl Talk Podcast. If you haven’t listened to the previous two episodes, go back and listen to those in order to be right on track with this episode’s discussion! We will be talking through pages 3 and 4 of the Self Love Success Academy materials, starting with the Four Agreements drawn from the book by Don Miguel Ruiz. The Four Agreements are: (1) be impeccable with your word, (2) don’t take anything personally, (3) don’t make assumptions, and (4) always do your best. Living this way will ensure that you won’t experience needless pain and suffering. The rest of the episode goes over the difference between a confident woman vs. a confident girl. A confident woman empowers other women, is assertive, speaks with charisma, processes her thoughts and emotions through journaling, lives in the moment, helps others, forgives herself, eats clean, and treats her body as a temple. A confident girl does basically the opposite, living without an awareness of how her actions can affect herself or others which can lead only to pain. Being a confident woman also means that you live with the awareness of how short life is, which helps you to stay focused on the present moment and refrain from judging others. For this week’s soul-work, take a look back at the list of traits of a confident woman and pinpoint which area you can work on in your daily life.If you love Grrrl Talk and you want to take your listening experience to the next level, join the Grrrl Gang and become a premium member of the podcast on Himalaya, which will give you early access to each podcast episode and exclusive content as well!Links:Self Love Success Academy: https://www.grrrl.com/self-love-academy/ “The Four Agreements” book: https://www.amazon.com/Four-Agreements-Practical-Personal-Freedom/dp/1878424319 Connect with us:https://www.grrrl.com/https://www.instagram.com/grrrl_clothing/https://twitter.com/GrrrlClothinghttps://www.facebook.com/Likeagrrrl/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8Pt8QEU8_Hao7j1I7poRCQ/ Tahverlee is a Social Impact Entrepreneur, Founder of Tahverlee's Tribe and Spiritual Coach: www.tahverlee.com
On this episode of Grrrl Talk, Kortney and Tahverlee continue their conversation about self-love, talking through the first couple of pages of the Self Love Success Academy book. Self-love is unconditional, meaning that there are no conditions to your acceptance of yourself, and it is a constant journey. That is why the pledge on page 1 of the Self Love Success Academy book is so crucial to all women out there. Having a mantra of self-love and body acceptance is one of the best ways to manifest what you want for yourself and having a recording of yourself saying it provides accountability.Next come the habits, principles, and lessons outlined in the Self Love Success Academy material, motivated by the beliefs established by the pledge and the power that comes from the self-love journey. Being intentional with your beliefs and practices will help improve the nature of your self-talk and the way you talk to and about other women. From meditation and movement to awareness and assertiveness to radical honesty and forgiveness, committing to the self-love process will change the lives of you and the women around you without a doubt. Your homework after this episode is to try this 30-second breathing exercise:· Put your feet flat on the floor· Straighten your spine· Relax your shoulders· Soften your jaw· Breathe in for 3 and out for 3· Deepen your belly· Breathe in for 3 and out for 3· Close your eyes· Breathe in for 3 and out for 3· Breathe in for 3 and out for 3If you love Grrrl Talk and you want to take your listening experience to the next level, join the Grrrl Gang and become a premium member of the podcast on Himalaya, which will give you early access to each podcast episode and exclusive content as well!Links:Self Love Success Academy: https://www.grrrl.com/self-love-academy/ Nutrition and Wellness Research:Adverse Childhood Experiences: https://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/childabuseandneglect/acestudy/index.html Connect with us:https://www.grrrl.com/https://www.instagram.com/grrrl_clothing/https://twitter.com/GrrrlClothinghttps://www.facebook.com/Likeagrrrl/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8Pt8QEU8_Hao7j1I7poRCQ/ Tahverlee is a Social Impact Entrepreneur, Founder of Tahverlee's Tribe and Spiritual Coach: www.tahverlee.com

On this episode of the GRRRL Talk podcast, Kortney and Tahverlee discuss GRRRL’s new signature program, Self Love Success Academy. A rebrand of Kortney’s teen program, Kamp Konfidence, Self Love Academy seeks to teach women tangible ways that they can change their life and how they feel about themselves.Growing up, Kortney wanted to be the first female president of the United States. She was associate student body president, captain of the cheerleading squad, and was a model student with a 4.0 GPA and a plan to attend Stanford University. Then, some of her friends started smoking methamphetamine and everything changed. What began as an experiment turned into a 10-year battle with substance abuse and a radical departure from the life that she had imagined for herself.Bodybuilding was a way out. After years of setbacks, Kortney discovered the muscle fetish industry and found that there was a large group of men who were not interested in the ‘ideal’ body type. She had been lied to. Kortney’s eyes were opened to the syndication and power of the media when a widely published article about her ‘fetish porn star past’ led to her rejection from the Big Brothers, Big Sisters program. Instead of being a victim, she decided to create Kamp Konfidence based on her own struggles to teach girls lessons and principles that lead to the development of self love. Once they accept themselves, they can stop seeing each other as competition and work together to reach their goals. While developing the program, Kortney watched the documentary, ‘Killing us Softly,’ by Jean Kilbourne to learn more about the devastating effects of advertising on women. She discovered how unrealistic images and misdirection are common tools of the media, and the importance of viewing multiple sources in order to find the truth. These messages are powerful because they are often subliminal.Over time, Kortney realized that once girls left Kamp Konfidence, things would unravel because they no longer had a support system in place. GRRRL was launched to expand this platform, and the program retooled to help women empower themselves and find success. Self Love Academy is a free 4-week course tailored to all learning styles and ages. It includes numerous activities and videos, with a focus on creating a daily gratitude list for personal affirmation. New this year, the GRRRL 20:20 Project is a series of initiatives that extend these ideas and seek to create lasting change in our society. We want to hear from you! On this episode of the GRRRL Talk, Kortney and Tahverlee discuss the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show and the many reactions that people had based on their personal perceptions. Many women in the Latin American community were proud of JLo and Shakira for representing their culture on such a significant stage and demonstrating to many girls that they can achieve their dreams. If you found yourself triggered by JLo and Shakira’s halftime show, it is important for you to look inside yourself and trace the roots of your reaction. One of the key conversations that has come out of this incident (or non-incident, depending on your perspective) is the repression of women throughout history in comparison to the empowerment that women have been claiming as their own over the past few decades, whether the world is ready for women in their new roles or not. Some media outlets even weighed in on the topic, mostly negatively, prompting many calls for the media to report both sides of the story. The GRRRL movement: to see women as sisters and not competition. While many compliments can be short-lived and leave us wanting more, the right compliment at the right time can be life-changing for us and those around us. Living your truth and sharing your story with others can have a positive compound impact, just like passing judgment can have a negative compound impact, so love yourself first and let that flow out to your love of others. Rather than complaining about the problems you see, talk about and be a part of the solutions, first by doing the work on yourself and then by being respectful of the beliefs and lifestyles of others. If you love GRRRL Talk and you want to take your listening experience to the next level, join the GRRRL Gang and become a premium member of the podcast on Himalaya, which will give you early access to each podcast episode and exclusive content as well!Connect with us:https://www.grrrl.com/https://www.instagram.com/grrrl_clothing/https://twitter.com/GrrrlClothinghttps://www.facebook.com/Likeagrrrl/https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8Pt8QEU8_Hao7j1I7poRCQ/Kortney can be found at:https://www.instagram.com/kortney_olson/Tahverlee is a Social Impact Entrepreneur, Podcast host and Founder of Tahverlee’s Tribe:https://tahverlee.com/https://www.instagram.com/tahverlee/

Three facts you’ll learn about Whitney in this episode are that she’s a Grrrl Live OG! Making connections energizes her, and her default setting is optimism. With a background in non-profits, her career started in San Francisco, an LGBTQ friendly state, she now lives in Minnesota and is still heavily involved in the LGBTQ community. Growing up, she was a tomboy, and she leans more towards a “masculine” style - the distinction in her case is that she never felt like a man; it was the clothes that society says are appropriate that made her feel boxed-in. This episode includes topics like: what it feels like to feel unsafe in public; the privilege of masculinity and a few tips on how to look stronger as women in potentially intimidating situations. Recovery isn’t a linear process. Leslie Mulcahy is Canadian, an unashamed fan of Celine Dion and she’s recovering from PTSD. What do you do when someone in a position of authority “asks” you to put yourself in harm’s way for a good cause. A split second decision and the unfortunate consequences led to Leslie living with trauma. For years her body was in state of trauma and this became her new “normal”. Often when we hear about PTSD we picture the armed forces or first responders, not our friends and neighbors, and certainly not ourselves – no-one was more surprised at the diagnosis than Leslie. Therapy, medication and education are the tools that have led Leslie to recovery. Connection seems to be a buzzword, but for Stephanie Browne, the M.C for this year’s Grrrl Live event, breaking down in front of a group of strangers started her on her path to recovery; and she learned to connect within herself. We all have parts of ourselves we are to scared/ashamed to show people and Stephanie was just the same. After doing the work she shares her story of how she dealt with the abandonment and co-dependency. In this episode we ask, do we need to expand the definition recovery to include emotional healing? We recognize that a lot of people base their opinion of themselves on what they believe others think of them. How this thought process can create an unhappy cycle. Stephanie shines a light into the dark corners of her recovery and talks about how she views herself now and the chain of events that led her to her to get in touch with her biological father. Tahverlee sits down with Janae who opens up about finding herself and her transgender journey. As a child she knew she just wanted what she felt inside to match her outside, but in a pre-internet world, information, empathy and access to a community, were hard to come by. Janae competed as a body builder and professional powerlifter for many years and in 2009 set the world record in powerlifting in the men’s weight class with a 738 pound bench press, 810 pound deadlift and 1003 pound squat. After being outed in 2015 via social media, Janae lost a lot of her sponsors and her job as a pharmacist, and her competitive path in strength sports took a back seat to focus on her life. But that’s not where she allowed her story to end. Janae is an author and speaker and is the subject of the award-winning documentary Transformer. This story will make you ask yourself questions about our almost sub-conscious gender bias and the juxtaposition of strength of the feminine and of the masculine. As a trans/genderfluid/nonbinary human, Janae talks about the importance of being true to yourself. It’s also an education to hear how lack of knowledge is limiting transgender athletes to compete in sports, and lastly, it’s a story of triumph and love.
