Gotta Be Saints
How to Revive Our Culture with Jason Jones

Gotta Be Saints

On episode #166, I spoke with Jason Jones about how to revive our culture from a Catholic perspective.Key points from our discussion include:- The biggest issue in today's world- Catholic approach to the great reset - The need to strength families and communities through subsidiarity- What motivated Jason to write this book- And much more...Biography:Jason Jones is a film producer, author, activist, popular podcast host, and human rights worker. He is president of the Human-Rights Education and Relief Organization (H.E.R.O.) known for its two main programs The Vulnerable People Project and Movie to Movement. In 2006, Jones was an Executive Producer of "Bella," which won several film industry awards, most notably the People's Choice Award at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival. In 2009 Jason was an associate producer of “The Stoning of Soraya M”, winner of the NAACP Image Award and the Los Angeles Film Festival. In 2009 Jones produced the award-winning pro-life short film Crescendo with Eduardo Verastegui and Pattie Mallete (the mother of Justin Bieber). Crescendo raised over 6 million dollars in North America to support pregnancy centers and women's shelters. Jason launched the Vulnerable People Project's Hope for Afghanistan program after receiving a request to rescue a friend's mother trapped in Afghanistan during the US Military withdrawal. VPP's Hope for Afghanistan has since grown immensely in the last two years. Since the disastrous US withdrawal VPP has evacuated thousands of religious minorities and former Afghan allies, provided for safe houses in neighboring countries, and worked to resettle vulnerable Afghans. VPP has delivered over 3 million meals to families in need across Afghanistan; opened a women's health clinic; drilled wells that provide potable water to several villages; and provided security for schools so children can study and learn safely.  At the heart of everything Jason does is a mission to stand between the violent and the vulnerable: from the child in the womb to Christians in Nigeria, to civilians in Ukraine to our former allies in Afghanistan. His tireless work in the pro-life movement was just recognized in a featured chapter in Legacy of Life, a book honoring fifty of the greatest pro-life leaders of the last fifty years. Links:Link for Purchase: The Great ResetFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/SophiaInstitutePress/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/SophiaPress Our Sponsors:This is a Good Catholic Podcast.  If you're interested in purchasing a Good Catholic digital series, use code GBS for 20% off your total order.Looking for the perfect Catholic gift? I have been a fan of Jason Jones ever since he was an executive producer of Bella, still one of my all-time favorite movies. He was also an associate producer of The Stoning of Soraya M, is a pro-life activist, popular podcast host, and tireless human rights worker. His humanitarian efforts have aided millions in Afghanistan, Nigeria, and the Ukraine, as well as pregnancy centers and women's shelters throughout North America. Jason's pro-life journey and work began while he was playing on the high school football team. The day after homecoming, on a Saturday morning, his girlfriend rode her bike over, knocked on the door and came into his room, waking him up with the words, “I'm pregnant.”  In the interview he details the tragic event leading to the forced trimester abortion of the child that put him on a path to rescue and defend innocent and vulnerable people all over the world. These range from the child in the womb to the over one million Uighurs in Chinese concentration camps who are having their organs harvested and forcibly being mass sterilized in Chinese occupied East Turkestan. And the reason for the imprisonment of the Uighurs, the Communist Chinese party (CCP) says, is to prevent domestic terrorism, and root out hate speech. That means rooting out those with religious beliefs who would seek to build a culture other than the official government position. The CCP is also importing vast numbers of people into this area to dilute the population.  Does any of this sound familiar to those of us living in the United States of America?  The Great Campaign against the Great Reset, Jason's new book, got its name from what Pope John Paul II wrote in Evangelium Vitae, the Gospel of Life:  "What is urgently called for is a general mobilization of consciences and a united ethical effort to activate a great campaign in support of life. All together, we must build a new culture of life" – Pope St. John Paul the Great Jason, as did John Paul II, has a special place in his heart for young people and opens his book with a chapter dedicated to them. “The moral imagination of our young people has been utterly obliterated by porn and by TikTok, YouTube, FB and Instagram reels.  You won't want to miss this important show and please share it with your friends, family and  young people!  “It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo,” says Samwise Gamgee. “Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going, because they were holding on to something. That there is some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for.”Follow the Jason Jones show PodcastThe vulnerable people project.comThe great campaign.org Get the book. Link for Purchase: https://sophiainstitute.com/product/the-great-campaign-against-the-great-reset/Please send donations to support our work to:John Paul II Renewal Center902 S Randall RoadSTE C #296St. Charles, IL. 60174Support the show     More information on LoveEd! The invitation put forth at the Interview Suite was:  Let Your Voice be Heard! In total, I interviewed 71 women. I was truly fortunate to sit with women as they spoke so profoundly from their hearts about their faith-in-action toward the Parliament's themes of:  a call to conscience, the support of the human rights and dignity of women, and the care of the next generations of children (which, of course includes care of our earth). This series of interviews gave me a sense of peace and reassurance.  The women are activated, and their love cannot be stopped.  And I believe that you will find, as I did, that listening to women speak from their fierce hearts, empowers us as women to find our own voices and to take action from our hearts as well.   Please return each week for a new interview here.  And please help me share these women by subscribing! With love,DaleSupport the show

(Mother Hilda uses the true story of Soraya M to show the complex web of prejudice, jealousy, corruption, confusion and ignorance to show that this gospel story is really about the crowd. The gospel calls us, the potential stone throwers to see our own failures. Jesus gives us time to place and see ourselves as the crowd in this story, calling on each of us to work on ourselves to grow in grace and recognise that the one thing we can do for others is to love them.)

Soraya Lane has an impressive backlist in contemporary romance, but she's hitting  the Kindle best seller lists with her most recently published work, World War II fiction centered on women's stories. Hi there, I'm your host Jenny Wheeler, and today Soraya talks about the road to being a successful international author and why she's not going to apologise for treating writing as a business. Six things you'll learn from this Joys of Binge Reading episode: How many novels Soraya finished before she sold oneWriting Montana romance from New ZealandHow her passion for horses helped write romanceOn being a workaholic and (usually) loving itWhat its like to be international best seller unknown at home ENTER DRAW to win a signed paperback copy of The Spitfire Girls Where to find Soraya M Lane: Website: www.sorayalane.com Facebook:  facebook.com/SorayaLaneAuthor  Twitter: @soraya_lane Instagram: @sorayalaneauthor  What follows is a "near as" transcript of our conversation, not word for word but pretty close to it, with links to important mentions. Jenny: [00:00:00] And now here Soraya. Hi there Soraya. And welcome to the show. It's great to have you with us. Soraya: [00:00:07] It's wonderful to be here. Thank you for asking me. How Soraya got started Soraya M Lane Amazon best selling author Jenny: [00:00:10] Beginning at the beginning was there a Once Upon a Time moment that got you started in writing and was there any sort of catalyst for it. Soraya: [00:00:22] Look I don't know if there was a specific catalyst for it. I've always been a huge reader and I've probably been a writer all my life really, from when I was first at school. I came up with these wonderful stories that I used to share with my teachers. So I think I've just always enjoyed writing and always loved reading. I think sometimes if you're a very keen reader the next step often is to try and write something yourself. And so I started. I found my way into writing again when I was at university and just thought 'I actually want to do this.' I want to see my books on the shelf with my name on there. And I just started and went from there. Jenny: [00:01:00] Fantastic. Well you've now got an extremely impressive list of contemporary romance to your name, as well as the historical fiction we'll be talking about. You've been writing pretty solidly since university? Soraya: [00:01:14] I started writing quite seriously actually, writing my first full length novel when I was at university. I was probably around 19 or 20 and it took me two years to write that first book. So I had been writing for a long time. I sold my first book when I was pregnant with my first child. And I was 27 then. So I have been I had been writing for a little while now. I guess I've been published for about nine years. Jenny: [00:01:38] Fantastic. So you've now got a really impressive list of contemporary romance nearly 30 books that counted on your website. And we'll talk about that contemporary romance a little later. But the most recent books are branching out into historical fiction and they've been doing particularly well. Both Wives of War and The Spitfire Girls have been Amazon  charters and Kindle  best sellers. Now they are World War Two historical fiction. Tell us why you made that change? Switching from romance to history Wives of War - Soraya M Lane Soraya: [00:02:13] Oh look, it was it's something that sort of came about organically in the end. I mean I still love writing contemporary romance but I actually went back to university and did an MFA so a Master of Fine Arts and Creative Writing at the University of Canterbury and I went back there and thought I need to challenge myself and write something different. [00:02:31] And I'd had this idea for a historical World War II story for quite some time and I thought you know this is this is the chance. This is the time for me to to really

Cyrus Nowrasteh is a writer, producer, and director. Starting out as a television writer, Cyrus received the Pen USA West Literary Award for Best Teleplay twice, and is the only writer in the history of the Pen awards to win two years in a row in the same category. He wrote the pilot for the USA Network show “La Femme Nikita”, as well as numerous episodes of “Falcon Crest”. He also wrote and produced the Emmy award winning ABC miniseries “The Path to 9/11”, which starred Oscar winner Harvey Keitel. Cyrus’ film work has been equally illustrious. He wrote and directed “The Day Reagan was Shot”, which starred Oscar winner Richard Dreyfuss and was executive produced by Oscar winner Oliver Stone. He then went on to co-write and direct the film “The Stoning of Soraya M.”, which starred Jim Caviezel and won runner-up for the Audience Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, amongst numerous other award wins. “The Stoning of Soraya M.” was condemned and banned by the Iranian government but thousands of copies were bootlegged into the country and it became an underground hit in Iran - forcing the government to put a temporary suspension on stoning as a punishment. Cyrus’ latest release “The Young Messiah”, which he directed and co-wrote, is based on an Anne Rice novel, and stars Sean Bean. It will be released in theaters nationwide on March 11.

Programledare: Roger Wilson.

An interview with CYRUS NOWRASTEH the director of THE STONING OF SORAYA M. - a classic fable of good vs. evil and an inspiring tribute to courageous women fighting against violence all around the world. In a world of corruption and injustice, a single courageous voice can tell a story that changes everything. This is what lies at the heart of this emotionally charged film. Based on a true story, this tale of a village's persecution of an innocent woman becomes both a daring act of witness and a parable about how people react when someone in their community is turned into a scapegoat: who will join forces with the plot, who will surrender to the mob, and who will dare to stand up for what's right. THE STONING OF SORAYA M. is inspired by French-Iranian journalist Freidoune Sahebjam's acclaimed international best-seller of the same name which first brought global attention to the real Soraya, who in 1986 was stoned to death by her fellow villagers, in the presence of her children.
