Today, the BodPod is excited to be chatting with Kortney Olson! Kortney is a certified personal trainer, an accredited Olympic lifting coach, the original Australian women's arm-wrestling champion, a Jujitsu champion, a three-time international body-building competitor, an author, and a T.V. personality who was crowned the woman with the world's deadliest thighs by Stan Lee for her ability to crush watermelons using only her thighs. After seeing the need for clothes that fit athletes, Kortney launched Grrrl Clothing in 2015, which is based on a variety of body shapes and types that reflect girls living in the 21st century. Earlier this year, she also published her autobiography called Crushing It: How I Crushed Diet Culture, Addiction, and the Patriarchy. In today's episode, Kortney will touch on her addictions, eating disorders, what it was like being raised by an alcoholic, and how she came to be at the centre of an unexpected porn scandal, all of which inspired the work she is doing today. We will also discuss the limiting beliefs about weight and bodies that we internalize at an early age, how women have been taught to view each other as competition rather than a community, and much more. Keep listening to hear how Kortney is working to help other women overcome their body image issues with her inclusive clothing line and training program.Visit Kortney's website for more information on her book and her 8-week, at-home watermelon training program, find her on Instagram at @kortney_olson and check out GRRRL Clothing for Kortney's clothing line for unstoppable women.

Kortney Olson is the founder of GRRRL Clothing and author of "Crushing It." Kortney Olson knows what it’s like to drag yourself up from the bottom. After surviving sexual assault, an eating disorder, depression and drug and alcohol addiction all before she was 21, Kortney knows how important it is to turn trauma, pain and despair into power, strength and confidence. Seeing a greater need out in the world to empower women, Kortney created an international clothing line. GRRRL clothing was the first clothing line to refrain from traditional sizing, rather using the measurements of female athletes to guide women to the right fit. Under Kortney’s inspirational leadership, GRRRL continues to grow and spread the message of radical self-love and gender equality in the face of society’s box, one GRRRL at a time. Heather MacDonald is not your average college English professor. She is an Elite/Pro Highland Games competitor and GRRRL Clothing sponsored athlete (size Heather!) Previous to that, she was an NCAA Division 1 track and field athlete and a strongwoman competitor for two years. We have a great talk about women on the field and in the gym, the animosity coming from armchair sports "fans" and whether or not everyone in the strength and power sports communities can "come together" after this past year of COVID, racial tension and political insanity. We also discuss body image at length because the fitness industry cannot let it go, especially when it comes to women. What does it mean to take up space on the field and in your life? Oh my gosh what a weekend. It took me almost a week to unpack and integrate back into my world. The #GL19 Grrrl Live Event was in Las Vegas and was a complete game changer as far as women's empowerment, feminine leadership, inclusion and perspective. Kortney Olsen, CEO of GRRRL CLOTHING led us through an alchemical journey: I am enough, you are enough, we are enough! the theme of the weekend more than delivered in content, connection and collaboration. I am so grateful for all the wonderful learnings. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to open up the morning on Sunday and to have taught the women in my workshops my #confidencechoir exercise: "I know I know I know I know I know!" It was amazing, fun, mind blowing, empowering, exhausting, ferocious and eye opening. I am inspired by the opening and amazing clearing work these powerful women executed in a short and concentrated time period. It was freaking bad ass! LOL. Enjoy!
