Her work investigates and articulates the intersections of a Cree worldview and contemporary time-place incorporating sound, Indigenous languages, music, and old and new technology. She is one of Canada's most distinguished Indigenous media artists, whose career formally began at the age of forty when she started studying0 filmmaking at Ryerson University. Alicia works in traditional and digital mediums to produce creative works and compelling messages. In the past few years she was awarded a McArthur and Sundance Institute fellowship for her 360 video immersive installation, was an invited presenter to the Dalai Lama for the Summit on Fostering Universal Ethics and Compassion and won the $1 Million Dollar Bloomberg Mayor's Challenge.
