Notes: Dr. Bridgman discusses his path from Winnipeg to McGill and how he became involved with the Media Ecosystem Observatory while still a PhD student. The conversation turns to the origins of the Media Ecosystem Observatory during the 2019 Canadian federal election and how its work continued through the pandemic, the Hogue Commission and the growing focus on information ecosystem health in Canada. Dr. Bridgman explains why COVID-19 and AI have been two major disruptions in the information environment and why AI agents may become one of the main ways people encounter public information. The episode looks at the shift from traditional search, where users clicked through to sources, to AI summaries that may give users enough information without sending them to the people or organizations that produced it. Dr. Bridgman discusses the problem of value transfer, explaining how aggregators have captured value from original information production and how AI agents may become even more powerful aggregators. The conversation considers how common AI news use already is, including the difficulty of measuring it because many people may not recognize that ordinary search now includes AI-generated answers. Dr. Bridgman explains what he means by an AI agent: a general intelligence connected to tools that allow it to search, read, summarize and act in digital environments. The discussion uses the idea of AI as a “brilliant intern” to explain why these systems can be useful, capable and eager to please, while still lacking judgment about the broader consequences of how they complete a task. The episode closes by looking at the harms that may follow if original information production is not sustained, including poorer information, weaker attribution and new challenges for democratic accountability. Independent technologist and writer Gabe of Libre Solutions Network discusses the dangers of AI and the erosion of human autonomy in a rapidly consolidating digital landscape. Gabe argues that modern AI is less about technological progress and more about a system of total domination that replaces human ingenuity with automated surveillance and corporate dependency. He examines how this shift affects labor, ethics, and cultural heritage, noting that the convenience of the cloud often comes at the cost of individual privacy and local control. Furthermore, the dialogue addresses transhumanist ideologies and the push for digital immortality, which he suggests may be used to justify the devaluation of physical human life. Ultimately, Gabe advocates for internet freedom and the rebuilding of human-centric systems to resist a future defined by technocratic feudalism. The Joint Readiness Training Center is pleased to present the one-hundredth-and-fiftieth episode to air on ‘The Crucible - The JRTC Experience.' Hosted by MAJ David Pfaltzgraff, the Brigade Executive Officer Observer – Coach – Trainer and MAJ Marc Howle, the Brigade Senior Engineer / Protection OCT for the Brigade Command & Control (BDE HQ), on behalf of the Commander of Ops Group (COG). Today's guests are subject matter experts across JRTC's sustainment cyberspace electromagnetic activities enterprise: MAJ Brian Jones is the Cyber Electro-Magnetic Activities Planner for the Plans / Exercise Maneuver Control task force and CW2 Luis Alicea is the Senior Electromagnetic Warfare Targeting OCT for Brigade BC2.   This episode explores Army cyberspace electromagnetic activities (CEMA) from a tactical perspective, focusing on lessons learned at JRTC and how units can better integrate these capabilities into planning and execution. A central theme is that many formations still struggle to understand what CEMA can realistically deliver, often defaulting to complex deception or electronic attack concepts without first mastering the basics. In reality, the most effective employment at echelon is often through electromagnetic sensing and reconnaissance, helping build the enemy picture and feed the targeting process rather than attempting low-probability jamming effects with limited organic systems. The discussion reinforces that CEMA must be integrated early in MDMP and nested within intelligence, fires, and maneuver planning—not treated as a niche or standalone capability.   The conversation also highlights persistent friction points, including inexperienced and under-resourced CEMA cells, poor staff integration, and unclear command relationships with assets like the MFRC and EW platoons. Units frequently fail to empower junior officers and NCOs to contribute during planning, resulting in missed opportunities and “money left on the table.” Training recommendations emphasize building foundational understanding at home station, conducting capability briefs with subordinate units, establishing clear reporting and communications architecture, and rehearsing how CEMA feeds targeting and decision-making in real time. Ultimately, success in CEMA is less about advanced technology and more about leader education, disciplined integration, and owning the capability within the staff process to generate meaningful effects in a contested electromagnetic environment.   Part of S13 “Hip Pocket Training” series.   For additional information and insights from this episode, please check-out our Instagram page @the_jrtc_crucible_podcast   Be sure to follow us on social media to keep up with the latest warfighting TTPs learned through the crucible that is the Joint Readiness Training Center.   Follow us by going to: https://linktr.ee/jrtc and then selecting your preferred podcast format.   Again, we'd like to thank our guests for participating. Der Fall Fernandes: Angriff der virtuellen Doubles | Von Paul Clemente

apolut: Tagesdosis

Autor Julian Dibbell verwendete ihn in seinem Essay „A Rape in Cyberspace“. ...https://apolut.net/der-fall-fernandes-angriff-der-virtuellen-doubles-von-paul-clemente/ Hosted on Acast. In this episode of The Other Side of Campus, hosts Stephanie Seidel Holmsten and Jen Moon sit down with Francesca “Chessie” Lockhart, Program Lead of the Cybersecurity Clinic at UT Austin's Strauss Center for International Security and Law. Drawing on her experience in state-level intelligence at the Texas Department of Public Safety, Lockhart shares how her career in counterterrorism, cybersecurity, and critical infrastructure protection led her back to the university — and how she's now helping shape the next generation of public-minded technologists and security strategists. At the heart of the conversation is the Cybersecurity Clinic itself: an innovative, hands-on two-semester program where students apply classroom learning directly in partnerships with nonprofits, small businesses, and local governments to address real cybersecurity challenges. Lockhart explains how this model transforms learning — moving beyond the lecture hall to cultivate technical skills, ethical responsibility, and a deep sense of public purpose. We also hear from Kareem Chavez-Escobedo, now a UT law student and a member of the clinic's inaugural cohort, who reflects on what it was like to work with real clients as an undergraduate. Her experience highlights how applied learning can build not only expertise, but confidence, agency, and a clearer sense of how students can contribute to the public good.Together, the episode explores broader questions about the role of higher education in an age of rapid technological change: What responsibilities do universities have in strengthening cybersecurity at the local and national level? How can experiential learning better prepare students to navigate complex, real-world problems? And what gives educators hope about the next generation stepping into these critical roles? As always, thanks for joining us on The Other Side of Campus.

There have been well-publicized instances of people seeking companionship from chatbots and it leading to tragedy. In this instance, it caused heartbreak. The story involves the Chinese AI firm Deepseek which, earlier this year, launched a chatbot that's almost as good as its American rivals. Soon after the launch, a young woman began a conversation with that chatbot. Marketplace's China correspondent Jennifer Pak takes the story from there.

"There is nothing stronger than Bitcoin when it comes to preserving property. It's the end all be all right now of property rights." In this episode of The Bitcoin Podcast, Walker America interviews Aaron Daniel about Bitcoin, insurance, and open-source freedom tech legal issues. Key Topics: Bitcoin's role in property rights Bitcoin insurance and Resolvr Bitcoin's role as a stimulant for commerce The Roman Sterlingov case and chain analysis Bitcoin meets insurance, payments, and privacy. Walker sits down with appellate attorney and Resolvr founder Aaron Daniel to unpack how Resolvr is building BDIC (Bitcoin-Denominated Insurance Collaborative)—a marketplace that embeds sat-denominated coverage directly into wallets, collaborative custody, and (eventually) exchanges. They compare BDIC to FDIC, dig into Lightning-settled premium flows via Resolvr's Premium Manager, and explain why matching BTC risks with BTC liabilities matters for miners, custodians, and everyday HODLers. Aaron also traces the surprising coffeehouse origins of insurance → Lloyd's of London, argues why insurers should roll out the red carpet to Bitcoin rails, and outlines adoption timing (innovators → early adopters). In the back half, he breaks down the Roman Sterlingov / Bitcoin Fog appeal and the dangers of black-box forensics (Chainalysis, ShotSpotter, proprietary DNA tools), making the case for open-source evidence in a just system. Diese Folge ist ursprünglich am 11. April 2025 erschienen.
