It's the new year! That means a fresh start… right? Eh. Sort of. In this week's episode of Intuitive Adulting, we talk all about how just because you change your external circumstance, that doesn't mean you have released the baggage from the old circumstances. It's easy to think that a new job/relationship/calendar year/President/etc. will somehow make everything way better. Sometimes, that's true! Your circumstances may be holding you back from the next step in your growth. Equally as likely (if not a near guarantee) is that you have some work to do inside before the external changes are really impactful. Getting that new job won't resolve the resentment you feel toward a 9-5 schedule. Finding that new partner won't resolve the anxiety you have about whether you're enough. Inaugurating a new President won't fix the problems we face as a country. Any of those things could help (or hurt - you never know…). But the reality is that you will ALWAYS need to do the Work first before you can truly make progress. Listen in for some mic-drop wisdom and tactical strategies for how you can start processing your baggage today so you can move through the sticky parts (think: anger, resentment, apathy) and get to the good stuff (joy, gratitude, self-control, calm). Our final episode in our Enneagram and Tarot series! Wow. Can you believe we've made it through all nine types and all twenty-two major arcana cards. In this episode, we talk all about type nine (co-host Anna's type!) and our two tarot cards: The Hanged Man and Strength. These cards are sort of contrary to what you might think when you initially consider them. While the Hanged Man often depicts a character in a predicament (tied up, stuck in a tree, etc.), they are usually only stuck by choice. They have the power and resources to change their circumstances - if only they choose to. Likewise, our lovely type nines can often find themselves avoiding decisions by procrastinating, but they truly do have everything they need if they are willing to tap into their inner strength. Speaking of Strength… This card is not about muscle or assertiveness. It is about the gentle strength we all possess internally to create change when we are acting from our highest self. This card is a type nine's hidden superpower: the ability to influence for good using their incredible capacity for empathy and perspective. Have topic requests for us? On to the Challengers! Our determined, powerful Type-8s are an absolute joy to talk about in this episode. We talk all about how you desire control, but are often tempted to try to force your control on others to feel like you maintain your own autonomy. The Justice card sends the message that karma will rule in the end. There is balance in life and you can't always control the path, but you can be sure that the scales will balance in the end. The Tower card teaches us that our sphere of interest and our sphere of control are two VERY different things, and we would be wise to keep that in mind. You don't always get to decide what change comes to you, but there is a magic truth that you always have everything you need to get through any Tower moments that happen in life. In this episode of Intuitive Adulting, we talk all about Enneagram Type 7 and the messages they need to hear from The Fool, The Chariot and The Hermit. When we created this series, The Fool was the easiest card to sort out because it so clearly represents Type-7 energy, both light and dark. This card is a celebration of all that is great about our lovely 7s, but it also warns about the dangers of allowing yourself to avoid the big feels. The Chariot highlights the choices that face a Type-7: you can either choose to stay on your current path or you can choose to walk away. It depends on the situation, but it can be a bad habit for 7s to walk away when the going gets tough. How can you reign in your resources to support the path that will bring you the most fulfillment? And finally The Hermit. Tap into your high-side Type-5 energy and reflect before you act. Allow yourself to sit with the discomfort before you decide to change course. You have everything you need to create the life you are destined for as long as you slow down enough to see the path clearly. When we talked about what to post this week, we realized that what you probably needed was not to hear another enneagram episode. There is a lot of chaos and uncertainty in our collective (and many of our persona) lives right now. So instead of moving on to enneagram 7, we decided to go a little off-script. Welcome to the first “Intuitive Adulting Poetry Slam(ish)!” In this episode, we curated a few readings (some poetry, some not) that we felt would be most helpful in our current season. We hope that they uplift, focus and center you. As always, keep the conversation going by following us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/intuitive.adulting/
Oh, our lovely Loyalists… In this episode of Intuitive Adulting, we talk all about Enneagram Type Six and the three cards we hope will give them the courage to stand in their own power through life's ups and downs. The High Priestess is telling you that you have an inner guide ready to help you make decisions. She is strong and wise and understands all the questions you have. If you can pause to listen to her instead of seeking external advice, you will find the answers you need. If the Wheel of Fortune had a tagline, it would be, “hold onto your hat's ladies and gentlemen… it's about to be a wild ride.” We can't control the ups and downs of life, but we can control how we respond to them. The world is a crazy place to exist in a normal year, never mind the weirdness that is happening in 2020. The Wheel is asking our sixes to allow some grace to those shifting tides and know that you will always be able to handle what life throws at you. And finally: the Star. The Star is the gentle combination of the above two. She represents all the calm, centered energy we crave during times of trial. It's Mercury Retrograde! Instead of panicking, listen to this episode to learn how to channel all that intense reflective energy to level-up your intentional communication. Mercury Retrograde is known for messing with our technology, causing serious miscommunications and allowing our ex's to stop all over our peace of mind. But it doesn't have to. In this episode, we explore the deeper truth about what a retrograde is and how we can USE this time to shift our inner stories and programming to serve us better. Co-host Anna walks through her strategy for preparing for those difficult conversations that you may be dreading so that you can reclaim control of your own emotions and create room for a better outcome. If this work resonates with you but you're not sure how to put it into practice personally, you're in luck! Anna is also running a coaching scholarship program through October 23rd where you have the opportunity to get one-on-one support deciding exactly who you want to become in 2021 and create a plan to get there so you can reclaim control and calm in your day-to-day. Worst case? You get a free mini-coaching session. Best case? You change the entire course of your life for the better. Hello, professors! To all our Enneagram Type 5s out there, we are so excited to share this with you. Type 5s are known to be thorough in their thoughts and research, and we think this episode will be an excellent resource for you to lean into the growth areas of your type. We talk about how you are experts at creating value from the intangible and how you are in the perfect position to teach us how to be the best students we are able to be. To be totally honest? This was our hardest episode to record so far. In it, we talk through Enneagram Type 4 and the messages from our three cards (Death, Devil and the Moon). Why was it so challenging? Because co-host Kendall is a Type 4. There is something uniquely exposing about the Enneagram. There is something about it that goes past all the memes and parodies and gets REAL deep into the shadow places we aren't always excited to show to the world. It's also just really hard to talk about yourself. Because we are all nuanced humans and trying to talk about “all type 4s” is pretty much impossible when you are a single unique (haha - listen to the episode for why this is hilarious) person with unique experiences. But we managed to give our lovely Type 4s some starting points for reflection and growth. We talk all about how some change comes so naturally to you, but sometimes the inside change can be met with resistance. We talk about how there is a strong temptation to relive experiences and emotions over and over - and how it's not serving you. And we talk about how you have a superpower: the ability to create meaning like no other type. Type 4s have this beautiful ability to see what others cannot and create value from that unseen beauty. We're mixing it up this week! Yup. This is NOT an enneagram episode. This week, we're talking about #100daysofbeing - Anna's pet project to help you use the last 100 days of 2020 to decide who you want to be to make 2021 an absolutely magic year. We talk all about how our goal setting/ planning mindset is broken and offer alternatives that are better aligned to how we function as humans. Expect lots of love for intentions and plenty of ideas for how you can start the process of becoming the next amazing version of yourself (without burning out, giving up or forgetting all together). Enneagram Type 3: our Achievers! To all the Type-3s out there, we are SO F*ING PROUD of you. You are so worthy and deserving of all the happiness and success. Type 3s are driven, inspiring and ready to make sh*t happen. We talk about the highs and lows of life as a three and the messages that Enneagram 3s can pull from the Judgement, Temperance and World cards. Both Kendall and Anna are connected to Type 3 through our Enneagram charts, so this is an especially personal episode. In this episode, we encourage you to acknowledge that there are things in life to celebrate beyond the accolades and get back in touch with your deepest desires. This one is for our lovely lovely Enneagram 2s! Type 2s are known for being the Helpers. They are the friends who are always ready to help you move or listen to your latest problems. What we love about 2s can also be their downfall though… They can overgive and forget to take care of themselves. In this episode, we talk about how beautiful it is when Type 2s embrace all the delightful characteristics of the upright-Empress and Lovers and the strategies we have for when that energy is turned upside-down. Tune in for beautiful embodiment practices, some advice for taking care of your inner child and some strongly-worded advice on boundaries (we know - your favorite growth area!). This one is for our incredible Enneagram 1s! Enneagram 1s are known for being honest, confident in what is right/wrong, and some of the best people we can have in our lives. We love that you embody the energy of the Emperor: dedicated to building your kingdom the right way, wise beyond measure, structured and organized. But we know you can slip into some of that wounded masculine energy, too… We have some practices for you to check in with yourself and be sure you're staying on the side of firm/fair instead of slipping into stubborn/inflexible. Then comes the Sun! When in rest/strength, Enneagram 1s go to Type 7. The Sun card is a reminder to PLAY. You are perfect just the way you are and everything you do is exactly right. We give you some easy ways to build in intentional play-time to channel that relaxed, happy energy into every day. This episode celebrates the incredible contributions we get from our lovely 1s and the wisdom that can be found in our tarot cards for the week (The Emperor and The Sun).
