In this eye-opening episode, we delve into the dynamic world of an INTJ Type 1 mother raising her free-spirited ENFP Type 7 daughter. With a focus on the contrasts and complements between the thinking and feeling brains, we explore how these personality types uniquely influence their parenting and child-rearing experiences. Shana, an INTJ mother known for her structured approach and keen sense of order, shares her personal journey towards understanding and embracing her daughter Savannah's exuberant and spontaneous ENFP personality. This episode sheds light on the challenges and triumphs of letting her free-spirited child learn valuable life lessons through experience, while also emphasizing the importance of parental self-awareness in fostering a nurturing environment for vastly different personalities. Gain insights into: Balancing Thinking and Feeling: Strategies for integrating a rational, organized approach with a need for emotional and creative expression, ensuring both mother and daughter thrive. Embracing Free-Spirited Learning: How the mother has learned to loosen the reins and allow her daughter the freedom to explore the world, make mistakes, and grow from them in her own unique way. Parental Self-Awareness: The crucial role of self-reflection in parenting, especially when dealing with personality types that starkly contrast with one's own. Shana discusses how understanding her own biases and limitations has been key to her growth as a parent. Navigating Opposite Characteristics: A deep dive into the day-to-day interactions and long-term planning that come with managing differing needs and desires, highlighting both the struggles and the beautiful moments of connection. Join us for a heartfelt and practical conversation that not only highlights the complexities of such diverse personality combinations but also provides real-world advice for parents facing similar challenges. Whether you're an INTJ, ENFP, or any other personality type, this episode offers valuable lessons on patience, understanding, and love in the face of differences. Join Enneagram Coach Teri Bales with Jules and Tia as we explore everything about TYPE 1- The Perfectionist! The Enneagram is a powerful personality system that helps individuals understand themselves and others better. It consists of nine distinct types, each representing a unique set of core motivations, fears, and coping mechanisms. In this article, we will delve into the characteristics of Enneagram Type 1, commonly known as "The Perfectionist". Email Teri Bales: chefteri@chefteri.net Type 1: The PerfectionistType 1 is part of the Body Triad, along with Types 8 and 9, and is driven by a desire to maintain order and perfection in their world.Their core motivation is the need to be virtuous and right, leading them to strive for improvement and excellence in everything they do.Perfectionists tend to be principled, organized, and self-disciplined, seeking to make the world a better place.Key Traits and CharacteristicsStrong sense of responsibility: Type 1s feel a deep sense of responsibility and are often drawn to leadership roles due to their strong moral compass.High self-criticism: The Perfectionist can be overly critical of themselves and others, constantly seeking to improve and meet their high standards.Struggle with anger: Under stress, Type 1s can experience repressed anger, as they see so much that needs improvement but may not always express it openly.Black-and-white thinking: They tend to see things in absolutes, with a strong sense of right and wrong, which can lead to rigidity and inflexibility. The Core Fear and Coping MechanismFear of being wrong or flawed: The Perfectionist is driven by a fear of making mistakes or being imperfect, which can cause them great distress.Coping with anger through control: To manage their inner turmoil, Type 1s exert control over themselves and their environment, seeking to correct imperfections.Levels of DevelopmentHealthy: At their best, Type 1s are principled, wise, and balanced, using their critical eye constructively to inspire positive change in themselves and others.Average: In the average levels, they become overly critical and judgmental, obsessing over details and losing sight of the bigger picture.Unhealthy: At their worst, Perfectionists can become righteous and obsessive, imposing their ideals on others and feeling overwhelmed by their inner critic.Growth and IntegrationHealthy growth (moving toward Type 7): They learn to embrace spontaneity, relax their high standards, and allow themselves to experience joy and playfulness.Integration (in times of stress): Under stress, Type 1s take on the positive aspects of Type 7, becoming more open-minded and receptive to new ideas.Relationships and CommunicationIn relationships, Type 1s value honesty, integrity, and reliability, and they can be supportive and encouraging partners. They may struggle with criticism and confrontation, needing to learn to accept constructive feedback without feeling attacked.Career Paths and Leadership StylePerfectionists often excel in roles that require attention to detail, precision, and adherence to rules and regulations. As leaders, they are principled and lead by example, setting high standards for themselves and their team.ConclusionEnneagram Type 1, The Perfectionist, brings a strong sense of responsibility and a desire for improvement to the world. While their pursuit of excellence can be admirable, they must learn to balance their self-critical tendencies and embrace imperfections to lead a more fulfilling life. By understanding the Enneagram, individuals can embark on a journey of self-discovery, personal growth, and improved relationships with others. We want to know who you are obsessed with--DM us directly on Instagram at: crown_compassgirlsJoin us as we interview thought leaders like Gary Vaynerchuk, Evan Carmichael, Dr. Laura Berman and MORE!And learn about how we are changing the world every day: THE WOMEN OF OBSESSEDGet Obsessed with us. "Is it possible that your number changes over the years? I remember being a 1 like five or six years ago, and now I did the test just for fun and I'm a 4 apparently (?)"This was such a great question I got over on Instagram the other day. While these two types on the surface may look very different, there are some very interesting similarities that do make this confusing sometimes. Both are very idealistic, Ones have an ideal version of how the world "should" be and Fours have an idealistic version of themselves. And both deal with the specific feeling of frustration (along with Type 7s) when that ideal version isn't lived up to. Most confusing though can be that when a One is in stress, they move to a Type Four, where they inner critic intensifies and they can slip into more depressed feelings. And then a Four is in growth or feeling secure, it's Arrow is to a One, bringing the needed structure and routine to their ideals and creative projects. Key differences covered in the episode include:1) how they each make decisions 2) their orientation to time 3) how they get their needs met4) how they handle conflict 5) handling the common good vs. personal desires Was this helpful? Let's start at the beginning - what is an enneagram? The Enneagram is an ancient personality system that's been used for centuries to help people understand themselves and those around them. The modern interpretation of this ancient idea is a powerful tool that has been gaining traction in the work world as a means to find success in your career. The Enneagram helps you identify your instinctual behaviors as well as the reasons why you might behave in a certain way. This knowledge can be utilized to create more harmony at work and with those around you.In this episode, you will learn: Tracy's personal story to discovering the EnneagramHow Enneagram types work best together in a partnershipWhat are ‘wing' types + growth numbersHow to effectively channel your Enneagram typeHow to best understand your type If you enjoyed this episode, make sure and give us a five star rating and leave us a comment on iTunes, Podcast Addict, Podchaser and Castbox about what you'd like us to talk about that will help you realize that at any moment, any day, you too can decide, it's your turn! You love a good checklist, know you're right from your wrong and nobody can load a dishwasher like you. Life simply wouldn't be as orderly without the One. But life is measured by more than perfect details and if you're not careful, your inner critic will rob you of God's goodness and grace. Whether you are a Type 1 or want to learn how to love one well, join Tammy Brown and Nancy Salley, our resident Enneagram 1, for a REAL conversation on the beauty and the brokenness of life as a Reformer.
In this episode I talk with enneagram life coach, Callie Ammons. We discuss all the different enneagram types, and how to actually determine your type. We dive deep into type 1: the perfectionist, and also talk about how knowing your enneagram type can really help you understand yourself, grow as a person and grow in your relationship with the Lord!
