In this spontaneous and heartfelt conversation, Ros chats with long-time Achievers member Holly Velardo, founder of HollyDay Travel, about the power of systems and how they've been the foundation for her business growth. Holly opens up about her early struggles: late nights, juggling five children, and doing everything herself to now running a thriving business with a team of five. She shares how implementing systems has allowed her to: Step out of the overwhelm of working until 2am. Build and train a strong team with clear roles and processes. Delegate tasks she doesn't love (like airfares and bookkeeping) so she can focus on clients and sales. Create space for her family, herself, and even launching her own podcast, Travel Business Unlocked. This episode is a must-listen for any advisor who feels stuck, stretched too thin, or unsure how to move forward. Holly's story shows that the “unsexy” work of systems is what creates freedom, growth, and balance. Ros also highlights how you can take the same steps Holly did by joining the Systems Day in Sydney. Be responsive to the voice of God and the Holy Spirit will lead you. Learning to respond in a way that is alignment with him and your gifting will lead you to flourish. How achievers and pleasers may not even be aware of their dark side because it gets rewarded in our organizations. The simple truths are the foundations of healthy organizations and a thriving life. The false narrative that exists when high performance is only measuring external outcomes. The addiction of high performers to please others is a dangerous path. Be excellent at your job and allow the joy of Jesus to be the overflow.Learn about yourself through assessments, coaching, and get curious about the behaviors that are not consistent with the gifts that God gives you. We've got a blockbuster episode of Spotlight for you today. We kick things off with an important discussion around women's sport and transgender athlete policies, following a landmark ruling from the UK Supreme Court on the legal definition of “woman” in the Equality Act. We know this topic won't be for everyone, so if you'd prefer to skip ahead to the sports performance and race insights, you can jump straight to that action at about 1:07:12 in the podcast. For those looking for insight on this important topic, Gareth and I unpack the Supreme Court decision—a ruling with far-reaching implications. We're joined by Helen Joyce, a leading women's rights advocate who was in the courtroom for the verdict. She explains why the decision matters, what it means for sports governing bodies, and how it could reshape the future of competitive sport. Then we shift gears into performance talk: world records fell in the pool and in the discus, and we explore how weather and tech have combined to break new ground. Paris-Roubaix delivered two standout races. In the women's event, race savvy beat strong legs (for once) as Pauline Ferrand-Prévot stormed to a solo victory in the Roubaix Velodrome. In the men's race, we got another much-anticipated clash between Pogacar and van der Poel. We break down the physiology behind their efforts, the tactics—including van der Poel's composed response to Pogacar's crash—and how plain bad luck robbed the race of a deeper duel.Gareth also dives into the UK's gym boom. With more people training than ever, we ask: is it all good news? Or is there more to the story? And finally, we celebrate our Discoursers—listeners and athletes around the world who've been tearing it up in races. Gareth shares some standout performances, and we invite you to join the community for world-class training insight and support.Show notesJoin our Discourse communityIf you enjoy the podcast, you'll love our Discourse community. In this episode of the Impostor Syndrome Files, we talk about unhappy achievers. We talk far more often about impostor syndrome than we do unhappy achievers yet both are rooted in an unhealthy relationship with achievement. This week, I'm talking with Josh Dodes, a psychotherapist who coined the term “unhappy achievers” to describe professionals who feel unsatisfied, or even empty, despite their high levels of success. Here we talk about the similarities and differences between unhappy achievers and those who struggle with impostor syndrome. We also talk about what we can do as parents to minimize the threat of unhealthy attachments to achievement. And we explore how to know when it's time to seek help.About My GuestJosh Dodes is a psychotherapist in private practice in the Philadelphia area. He studied psychology at Yale, received his master's degree from NYU, and trained at the Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Study Center in New York. He coined the term "Unhappy Achievers" in 2017 and was asked to write a blog on the topic for Psychology Today-- a blog which has now connected with more than 150,000 readers. Josh is also a former professional musician who toured internationally with his own band (the Josh Dodes Band, which starred on VH1's Emmy-nominated Bands on the Run) and as a band member for dozens of other artists.
