If you pull the idea of hell out of its context in the bible then you can do all sorts of reworking on the doctrine. But if you have a correct, biblically sound perspective on what hell represents and why it is present, then you will find a sobering, but beautiful doctrine.

In recent days a new controversy popped up regarding the nature of hell. Does God consign an unbeliever to an eternity of suffering or does He do this for an ordained amount of time and then the person is simply destroyed in totality? Many opinions are happening online and yet not a lot of helpful teaching. This is the beginning of a short series to remedy this.

Paul finds himself in trouble yet again because of the gospel. This time he is taken to the formal court of Athens to be judged by the leading religious philosophers regarding this new teaching they think they hear. How will Paul respond? What will be his approach to those who are not schooled in the Scripture in any way?

Paul had to flee Berea due to unbelieving Jews who came over from Thessalonica to denounce and attack him. The result is that he finds himself in Athens, Greece alone. Here we find this man of God faced with an overtly pagan world and we see how it affects him at the deepest levels of his soul.

Paul and Silas travel to Thessalonica and Berea with the goal of bringing the gospel to first the Jews and then the Gentiles. And the response is quite similar to that of Philippi, some Jews believe, while many Gentiles also come to faith. But things are not peaceful because when people genuinely embrace the gospel tensions rise due to new devotion and dedication. In this sermon we see how the one gospel message will always provoke two different reactions.

In the story of Paul in Thessalonica we have a beautiful example of how to lead a person to Jesus Christ. This is often a genuine struggle by people who know and love the gospel. In this sermon we consider several simple steps to keep in mind as we try to share the gospel.

We see the third story of the events surrounding Paul and Silas's missionary journey into Europe. Here we see the beating and jailing of these two men and then their release. But in and through all of this is the hand of God working out His perfect, yet mysterious will to save sinners.

We continue following Paul and his companions as they begin to bring the gospel into Europe. In this sermon we see them come into contact with demonic forces and how, through the power and authority of Jesus, they overcome.

Paul, having had a vision to come to Macedonia, travels over sea and land to arrive in this key city. There we find him encounter a group of women and we see the saving hand of God in the life of one named Lydia. But in all of this we also can see how God sovereignly moves in and through human history and human hearts to bring about His purposes throughout the ages.

This passage shows the preparation and beginnings of the second missionary journey of Paul. This time with a different set of companions but with the same goal in mind–to plant churches and strengthen those that exist. And in this passage we see the mission of God continue and the heart of a true pastor.

The Jerusalem Council is finished and the with the final decisions and letter written, Paul and Barnabas return to Antioch to give them the results. Preparations are then made to go on another evangelistic journey but this time with a new companion for Paul. And in all of this we see how God continues to press forward with His purposes even when we don't understand all of the reasons why.

The major question of whether the Gentile believer is under the Law of Moses for either salvation or as a rule of life has been resolved with a resounding "no." James now gives direction and encouragement to both the Jewish believers as well as to the Gentile churches. And in doing so, James points both groups to the glory of God's plan of redemption and restoration.

Having resolved that the bible teaches that the New Testament believer is not under the Law of Moses, but rather, the Law of Christ, the question is then raised, "What does this look like in one's life?" Today we begin to see the role of the Holy Spirit in how we are able to obey the Law of Christ. In this sermon we see the role that suffering plays in moving us toward godliness, obedience and Christ-likeness..

The sudden influx of many Gentile believers into the Church of Jesus Christ created a serious theological issue that needed to be resolved. Were the Gentiles under the Law of Moses? What was needed for one to be saved? These and other issues are brought to the leaders in Jerusalem to be resolved.

Paul's first missionary journey is underway and we see how persistence in this labor is necessary as the spread of the gospel will always result in resistance. Here we follow Paul and Barnabas further along in their first journey into the Gentile world of Asia Minor.

This is a basic overview of the doctrine of election. In this message we attempt to clarify and correct common misconceptions that arise over time. The goal is to appreciate that there is a lot more going on than we often grasp when addressing the way God saves sinners. The hope is that each believer hearing this will walk in a greater humility and full of thanksgiving to their God who saves poor sinners.

Paul's first missionary journey is underway and we have the opportunity to hear from the great apostle as he teaches his audience two thousand years ago. It is a masterclass on evangelism. In this final sermon we are treated with an example of how God works through the gospel to bring His elect to faith.

Spiritual warfare is an idea that conjures up all sorts of thoughts andreactions. During the 90's and early 2000's it was quite popular in the mainline churches. It hasshifted a bit over time but the presence is still felt and contributes to a very unbiblical andunhealthy understand of how Satan truly works and attacks. In this sermon we have a chance tosee actual spiritual warfare and consider some important implications with missions.

Often Christians look at themselves, their abilities and opportunities andthink little of it. They compare themselves to others and their effect seems to matter little. Butthis is simply not true. In this message we see how God saved, calls and equips all of us for Hispurposes. The size or effect is unimportant.

In this final sermon on guardians of the Church, we focus on what often isthe most difficult part of forgiveness, the idea of not remembering wrongs suffered. Often wewill hear "Forgive and Forget" but is this properly stated? Should we simply somehow forget? The goal of this sermon is to consider this aspect of forgiveness from a biblical perspective thatstarts with God's forgiveness toward sinners.

Having considered the various aspects of Church Discipline as a way toguard the purity of the Church, we now look at the what and how of forgiveness. Often peoplestruggle in forgiving another when sinned against and this creates challenges as a person seeksrepentance and wants to be restored.

One of the least practiced responsibilities in the American church today iswhat is commonly known as Church Discipline yet it is one of the key guardians of a true, localchurch. Though Matthew 18 functions as the normative process, there are many other passagesthat show how to handle unique situations that inevitably crop up. But in all of this is the desireand expectation of our Lord to be a pure church.

At the top of every sermon note is the mission statement forMissio Dei Fellowship. It is woven into every part of the day to day processes andactions of the church. But having a mission statement and owning that statementare two very different things. In these two sermons the people of Missio areexhorted to carefully consider the what, why and how of their mission statement.

One of the least practiced responsibilities in the American church today iswhat is commonly known as Church Discipline yet it is one of the key guardians of a true, localchurch. This is something that was commanded by our Lord and was taught by the Apostles as ameans to call sinning believers back to repentance and a proper fellowship with the church. However, in our times it neglected and even rejected and the cost is huge. This sermon seeks togive a broad explanation as to why any church that is truly a church of our Lord's must practicediscipline.

The church was purchased by the blood of Christ and it is most precious in Hissight. As such, we are called to treat the Church properly and with true deference, rather thanexploiting it for our own desires. With that in mind, we need to see how God has put into placecertain guardians for the Church. Two key ones are, godly leaders and godly church discipline. These will be the focus of this short series. In this final sermon on leadership we consider whatthe responsibilities are for the congregation toward their leadership.
