Tim's Book - Confessing Jesus' Mission is finally out! Find it here:http://amazon.com/Confessing-Jesus-Mission-Pastors-Prayer-ebook/dp/B0FZW7MSTVThis is a very special episode of LEAD Time.On launch day of Confessing Jesus' Mission, Tim Ahlman joins the podcast for a different kind of conversation—not to defend a book, but to ask a deeper question facing the church today:Have we lost a shared sense of why the church exists? In this episode, Joe Beran interviews Tim about the growing fragmentation within the LCMS, the false binary between confession and mission, and why fear has quietly replaced courage in many of our conversations. Together, they explore how tribalism has shaped church discourse, why the Missio Dei must once again drive our priorities, and how the church can move from playing defense to faithfully going on offense for the sake of the lost. The conversation also touches on pastoral formation, leadership development, and why strategic thinking does not undermine Lutheran identity—but can actually serve it when rooted in Christ, the Means of Grace, and love for neighbor. This episode is not a manifesto. It's an invitation:- To leaders who care deeply about the future of the church- To pastors and lay leaders willing to have honest, collegial conversations- To anyone longing for unity without compromise and mission without fearTim also shares who the book is for, who it's not for, and how it's meant to be read—not in isolation, but in community, as a catalyst for deeper conversation and renewed clarity around the mission God has already given His church. If you've felt the tension between faithfulness and fruitfulness, confession and mission, or tradition and innovation, this episode is for you.Support the showJoin the Lead Time Newsletter! We continue our Missio Dei sermon series.
How do we respond to God when he calls us to his mission? We might believe that we have to have a significant résumé or education to be useful to God's purposes. Or we might feel that we have no part in his mission to be worshipped as the only God among all the nations. However, the story of God's call on Abraham challenges us differently. Like Abraham we have to consider how we respond to God's call. This message from Genesis 12:1–3 helps us see God's supply to us in his mission.
At the heart of this message lies a powerful truth: the Kingdom of God is unstoppable. Drawing from James 1, we're challenged to move beyond merely hearing God's Word to becoming doers who actively embody His Kingdom in our spheres of influence. The concept of 'Missio Dei'—the mission of God—reminds us that we are the ecclesia, chosen and marinated in Kingdom values, sent back into our communities to declare how beautiful it is to belong to God. Just as the early Roman ecclesia were citizens sent to spread Roman culture, we are Kingdom citizens commissioned to spread the culture of heaven. The mustard seed parable comes alive when we understand that it takes someone to plant that seed—to take what God has given us and throw it into our field, whether that's our workplace, our neighborhood, or even the other side of the world. The remarkable stories of transformation—from orphaned children finding hope to Roma communities encountering Jesus for the first time—demonstrate that when the Kingdom takes root, nothing can stop its growth. We're invited to ask ourselves: What is my field? Where has God planted me to spread His Kingdom? The answer to that question changes everything, because the Kingdom of God is mobile through us, transforming grocery stores, gas stations, and every place we step into sacred ground for Kingdom advancement.

In this message, we explore the story of Babel and what happens when human ambition takes center stage. Rather than abandoning His people, God interrupts their plans to redirect them toward His greater mission.
Missio Dei - Part 2Mission Drift | Genesis 11:1-9Big Idea: God disrupts our human pride to advance His mission.1. Each of us has a desire to build something for ourselves, that we control, that glorifies us.2. God will bring every obstacle to His mission to nothing.
We continue our Missio Dei sermon series to start the year.
What does God do when we say "no" to him and his purposes? Can we, by our own rebellion and rejection of God, change or disrupt his plans in the world? In this second message in the Missio Dei series, we explore Genesis 11 and how our pride will not stop God's purposes.
What is the mission of the Church—and whose mission is it really? In Acts 9:32–43, we see the early church participating in the Missio Dei—the mission of God Himself. As Peter ministers in Lydda and Joppa, God displays His power through healing and restoration, leading many to turn to the Lord and magnifying the name of Jesus. This passage reminds us that the Church has always been a sent people. We do not create our own mission; we are invited to participate in what God is already doing in the world. Empowered by Christ and led by the Spirit, every believer has a role in God's redemptive work—so that Christ may be exalted among the nations.
What does it mean to be made in God's image? God created humans with a purpose from the very beginning. Genesis 1 explores how God designed humanity to reflect His image and spread His glory. Tune in as we uncover how God's design shapes who we are and how we live today.

To start off the New Year and the week of Prayer, Fasting, and Consecration, Dan Kammerzelt shares a message on John 3:16 and God's Love for the world and the Missio Dei
Before the Scientific Revolution, Western medicine was thought in terms of humors: cheerful people were sanguine and had a lot of blood, fiery cholerics had an excess of yellow bile, gloomy Melancholics had black bile, and mellow phlegmatics had phlegm of course. And the balancing of humors—hot and cold, wet and dry—was the key to a healthy life. It sounds medieval, it is, rooted in ancient Greeks, but we Catholics like medieval things, and some of us—especially Juan Domínguez, author: Knight, Monk, King, Prophet: A Christian Man's Guide to the Four Temperaments—has found wisdom in this way of thinking. And it's a way of thinking that we hear in some more conservative, or traditional, Catholic circles, so it's something I've been wondering about for some time. I've also been interesting in archetypes for since I first read Joseph Campbell and The Hero of a Thousand Faces many years ago. We also talk a bit about how one's role changes over time and also whether these models are applicable to women as well as men. I really enjoyed the conversation; I think you will too.
