Jesus was "taken up into heaven," but his work continues. The kingdom of God advances as the Holy Spirit empowers us to bear witness to Jesus. We are called out of complacency into a renewed life of expectancy, prayer, and boldness.

Pastor Matt began a comprehensive 16-week journey through the Book of Acts, which is part of a larger "Bible in a Jar" series covering John, Acts, and Romans. He explained that while John shows us who to trust, Acts reveals how to live out our faith, demonstrating that Jesus' mission didn't end with His ascension but continues through His Holy Spirit-empowered church. Focusing on Acts 1:1-11, Pastor Matt highlighted a crucial distinction: Jesus' work is both finished and unfinished. The work of redemption is complete—as Jesus declared "It is finished" (John 19:30)—but the work of ministry and proclamation continues. The disciples were instructed to wait in Jerusalem for the promised Holy Spirit because "God's work cannot be accomplished with human strength alone." The key verse, Acts 1:8, provides both the summary and outline for the entire book, showing how the gospel would spread geographically from Jerusalem to Judea and Samaria, and ultimately to the ends of the earth. Pastor Matt connected this historical foundation to Hope Church's Vision 2028, emphasizing that understanding the early church's methods and dependence on the Holy Spirit is essential preparation for their future ministry expansion.

GOT YOUR SIX SERVICE DOGS TESTIMONIAL - PARKER NAHRGANG As a part of Cottonwood Gunners veteran celebration, we honor our friend Parker Nahrgang and his wonderful support dog Eddie. A corporal in the US Marine Corps, Parker was deployed twice to Afghanistan – in 2012 and again in 2013. He was a part of the MWSS-273 (Marine Wing Support Squadron) where he spent the majority of his time in the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Edinburgh, Afghanistan. We have gotten to know Parker well and are not only amazed by his bravery, but also his willingness to say "yes" to the service of our country along with his humbleness. Eddie was a graduate of Got Your Six PTSD Support Dogs and never fails to impress us as well – he is indeed on-watch at all times! It's this first-hand knowledge of the profound difference that GY6 makes in veterans' lives that inspired us for this year's fund raise Parker's first deployment occurred less than three months after his daughter was born. Two years later during his second deployment, his son was born – but at least he was able to video call for the birth. During Parker's two Afghanistan deployments, he was faced with countless traumatic events that were nothing short of soul-crushing. Words can seldom describe what leaving a safe and loving home for a combat zone is truly like. It's an internal struggle that many veterans have faced overseas. In Parker's words, "Quite honestly, I don’t believe there are any words in existence that could adequately describe the experiences we face overseas." But the nature of war does not allow for the time to process or grieve. This Marine was able to make it out on the other side okay, and he says, "I can say beyond a shadow of a doubt Got Your Six PTSD Support Dogs gave me my life back." After exiting the Marine Corps, the trauma Parker had been bottling up for years was very evident. He became an emotionless shell of a man. Logically, he knew that he "loved" his family, but all the emotions that he "should" have felt didn't exist. Heart-brokenly and simply put, he didn’t care about his son, his daughter, or his wife. The emotional connection to them was nonexistent - they seemed like complete strangers to him. This is the horrible reality to living with PTSD. Add to that the PTSD symptoms of depression, anxiety, anger, nightmares and so much more including the inability to sleep with about 1-3 hours total a night and rarely longer than 30-minute stints. In Parker's words, "Countless veterans have experienced the same turmoil and suffering I have. Many of which still haven’t received the help they need. Unfortunately, the VA leaves many of us behind... If it were not for the overwhelming generosity of GY6 and those who support their efforts, my life and many others like mine, would be completely different. I like to imagine our souls are like big puzzles, and PTSD destroys that puzzle. But every person at GY6 selflessly takes their own pieces… pieces of their own heart and soul… and gives them to these dogs, it's with those pieces I was finally able to start putting mine back together. Román Baca is the Artistic Director of Exit12 Dance Company and a PhD Candidate investigating the military human through the arts at York St. John University in the UK.  Román Baca is also the Deputy Project Manager for Bravo 22, a Royal British Legion Funded Recovery Through the Arts Programme and the Project Manager for an arts and recovery pilot project with the Ministry of Defense.  Working through the arts with the military Mr. Baca has developed major partnerships and projects with world-class institutions including the Intrepid Museum, The British Museum, the Ministry of Defense, CreatiVets, The Metropolitan Museum of Art among others. Mr. Baca is a classically trained ballet dancer and choreographer. He has danced in the US for the New Mexico Ballet Company, Connecticut Ballet, the Nutmeg Ballet, Ballet Theatre Company. Rosi holds a Master's in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School with a certificate in Management, Leadership and Decision Sciences, and a BA in Anthropology from Brown University. Rosi weaves together her expertise in Adaptive Leadership, Public Narrative, Internal Family Systems, Immunity to Change, Shadow Work and the creative arts to offer individual and group healing with a systemic lens. Her clients include Mobilize Recovery, The Mission Continues, SAFE Project, Intrepid Philanthropy, MIT Sloan Business School, Harvard Medical School, McKinsey, Gensler Inc, Fidelity Investments, and more. Rosi has also been an Artist in Residence at Foundation House and the extremely selective Artist Residency Thailand. In addition to her transformational workshops and retreat facilitation, Rosi helps teams vision, see connections, and document gatherings through her stunning visual scribing.  Rosi champions empathy as the paramount leadership skill for today's world.
