Eva is walking a fine line between triumph and disaster. When the cult members discover her spying on them, they're anxious to get the code out of her. As she tries to escape, she finds she has to make a dreadful choice.Eva has to identify and destroy the password before the cult members get it. But she's discovered and runs off. When she enters a room she finds Edmond holding Adrien at gunpoint. Adrien frees himself and gets in a scuffle. A shot is fired and the book starts burning. A codeword written in special ink emerges in the heat. The cult members recite the password to relaunch the Napoleonic era. Eva gets one final chance. Will it be enough to save the day?
Eva is in the final moments of her mission. She can prevent a terrible disaster but she's running out of ideas. She thinks the book holds the answers but it is empty. Eva has 18,000 points and she knows that the French Republic is in danger. She does a back-up and clears level five. She and the player decide that the book holds the key to the riddle, as there are no more clues on the CD. She has to find out the password and then destroy it before it's too late. Time is running out.
Eva gets into Ratava's headquarters and overhears members of an imperialist cult making plans to send France back to the Second Empire. Eva holds the code they need to transform history. Is she too close for comfort?Eva overhears the conversation between three men standing around a machine. They are talking about whether Eva has the code. One of them says that the emperor will soon be with them at RATAVA headquarters. Eva and the player realize that they have uncovered an imperialist cult that wants to take France back to 1852 and restore the Second Empire.
Eva searches the bookstore in vain for an author named Ratava. She meets Yvan's twin brother and he gives her a book by RATAVA publications. Eva finds the publisher's address. But what is expecting her there? There's no trace of RATAVA at the bookshop. Eva is stunned when she sees an elderly man who looks like Yvan. It's his brother Louis. Eva tells him Yvan was murdered by the Man in the Black Hat. She asks Louis if the word RATAVA means anything to him. He gives her a book from a publisher called RATAVA entitled the "The Butterfly Effect or How to Change History." Who would want that?
The latest twist in the plot is that Eva has to try to decipher the word RATAVA. She heads for the address that might help her -- the bookshop mentioned by Yvan before he was murdered. Will she meet the same fate there?Eva and the player recap and realize that they haven't been to the bookshop in Rue St Sabin. Maybe that's where they will find out what RATAVA means. Eva asks Edmond to take her to the bookshop but when he offers to go in with her, she declines. He tells her to be careful, as it might be dangerous. Does he know more than she does?
Eva and Adrien are wondering what RATAVA means while the Men in Black Hats catch up with them. Adrien takes them on to allow Eva to escape the cemetery. She calls for Edmond, but where is her next stop?Adrien becomes the action hero as he fights the Men in Black Hats so that Eva can escape from the cemetery and fulfil her mission. On her way out of the cemetary, the 60-second game over countdown starts. She stops it by using the game-over cancellation tool. Edmund appears as soon as he's called. But where should Eva go now?
Eva gets inside the tomb using the mysterious phrase. Once inside the crypt, she comes across the letters RATAVA. She steps up to level five but will she discover the meaning of the letters in time? As night falls, Eva summarizes her findings. She gets inside the tomb using the phrase “La statue domine le mort, mais la fertilité est retrouvée.” Then she goes down some steps and, after completing level four, she wins a tool allowing her to cancel a game over. While looking around in the crypt she notices the letters RATAVA. Another riddle has to be solved.
Eva finally finds out what the mysterious message means. But the riddle of the code 1-8-5-2 hasn't been solved. Time is running out and she's still at the cemetery. Will she take the code to the grave with her?Eva asks the guide about the phrase, "La statue domine le mort, mais la fertilité est retrouvée." She asks Eva if she wants children. The guide explains that the phrase could refer to the tomb of Victor Noir, said to have the power to restore fertility. Eva and Adrien leave the tour to visit Noir's tomb. One riddle has been solved. That's good, but not enough.
Time is running out and the taxi is stuck in traffic. Eva and Adrien turbo-boost to Père-Lachaise but the person who can help them with the mysterious phrase won't be there for 30 minutes. Eva can't wait that long.On the way to Père-Lachaise, Edmond, Adrien and Eva get stuck in a traffic jam. The Men in Black Hats are following them. With time ticking mercilessly, Eva uses the turbo-booster tool to get them to the cemetery. At the gates, the warden is confused by Eva's mysterious phrase and tells her to wait for the guide to arrive in 30 minutes. But time is a luxury Eva doesn't have.
Smitten by Eva, Adrien offers to go with her to Père-Lachaise. When she calls for Edmond, only assailants appear. The pair barely escapes. Is Adrien right to have doubts about Edmond the taxi driver? When Eva calls Edmond with her remote control, he doesn't appear. Instead, a gang of Men in Black Hats are on the scene. Fortunately, she has Adrien with her after he insisted on accompanying her to Père-Lachaise. They run and as the thugs get closer, the two escape with the aid of the turbo booster. Edmond finally arrives at the last possible minute to take her and Adrien off to Père-Lachaise. But why was Edmond so late?
At the "Hippodrome de Vincennes," Eva is denied access to "allée a rangée 2" and the horse stalls. She's saved as Adrien the paramedic uses his work pass to get her in. Once inside, the clues start falling into place.Eva can't get a pass to get into the special enclosures at the Vincennes racetrack. Adrien the paramedic appears. He uses his work pass to take her through. While they're walking she notices a horse with the numbers 1-8-5-2 on it. It's called Père Lachaise. The cemetery Père-Lachaise, with its statues and dead men, will be her next stop. Hopefully not her last.
Eva hits the races at Vincennes to look for a lead. As she steps up another level, there is an "allée a, rangée 2" at the horse track. But what can it contain? Will she gain access to the stalls? The player is not convinced about the excursion to Vincennes. But there is an "allée a, rangée 2." The only problem is that she's got to have a pass to in. With level three cleared, Eva is given a one-minute turbo booster. Will she need it on the next level?
Eva goes to Edmond's painter friend Morgane to ask for help with the riddle. The artist has no clue and sends Eva off to the Vincennes horse track. Is it another trap? One of the artists at Montmartre compliments Eva as he paints her portrait. France is in danger and the person who can save the country is posing for a portrait. Eva kills time as she waits for Morgane, one of Edmond's friends, who's supposed to be good at solving riddles. When Morgane turns up, she looks at the puzzling sentence and suggests the horses at the Vincennes racetrack. The player doesn't see the point of going to a racetrack. But Eva has nothing to lose. Or does she?
Eva searches among the bones in the catacombs for a lead. But there's nothing but dead ends and footsteps in the dark. The mission is definitely connected to death. But is it her own?Eva gets the impression that someone's following her. Is she just spooked by being in catacombs? She heads down one alley but it's dead end. She hears steps again and as she tries to escape, she is shot. Third life down and only one left as she resumes the game, she realises the catacombs have yielded no clues. Time to call in Edmond.
Eva finds an "allée a, rangée 2" at the Tuileries fair but it's a dead end. The time penalty puts her under pressure as she heads to the catacombes. Is she running into another dead end?Eva buys a ticket for the ferris wheel. High up she can see all of Paris but, can't make out any statues, dead men or regained fertility. Coming back down to earth, she takes a time penalty before heading to the catacombes. Will she find answers in the labyrinth?
Eva seems to put her mission on hold to have lunch with Adrien. He senses that she's in danger. She suspects that he can help and she asks him for advice about "allée a, rangée 2." Should she trust his suggestions?Eva sips champagne while eating lunch with Adrien the paramedic. The player isn't happy about this interlude. France is in peril and Eva's drinking champagne and making eyes at the paramedic. Is this really the time to be flirting? Adrien wants to know if Eva is in danger and she tells him what she's looking for. He suggests the catacombes or the fair at the Jardins des Tuileries. Adrien offers to go with her, but she prefers to go with Edmond.
Frustrated by her lack of progress, Eva calls Edmond to see if he can help with the puzzle but Adrien the paramedic reappears and asks her out to lunch. Should she go? Eva is going nowhere in her mission. Her sudden lunch date with Adrien, the paramedic makes Edmond suspicious. But Eva goes out with the paramedic and, in the end, the risky move earns her a 3000-point bonus. After taking a few moments out to record events, she steps up to level three. Will the paramedic be useful to her?
Adrien, the paramedic, appears again to deal with the wounded Yvan but Eva doesn't recognize him. She takes Yvan's CD to an Internet cafe to listen to it and is told to follow the mysterious message. Once out of the metro, Eva goes to an Internet cafe to read the CD. In the commotion, she fails to recognize Adrien, the paramedic from the explosion at the station. The message on the CD tells Eva to find "allée a, rangée 2." The player wants her to go back to the station, but Eva suspects that she's looking for something different. Her only lead is, "La statue domine le mort, mais la fertilité est retrouvée."
Despite the player's warnings, Eva, in disguise, pursues Yvan, the elderly bookseller and the Man in the Black Hat into the metro. But she's too late. There has been murder in one of the trains. Is Yvan the victim? Mayhem has broken out at the metro station Champs-Elysées-Clémenceau. The ground is full of blood and a woman is screaming, "Murder!" Yvan is lying on the ground as the Man in the Black Hat takes off. Eva follows him out on to the Champs-Elysées but falls into his trap. Another life down, only two left. Yvan, mortally wounded, gives Eva a CD and tells her to escape.
Eva buys a cap and sun glasses as a disguise so that she can trail Yvan the elderly bookseller and the Man in the Black Hat without being noticed. Will Yvan divulge the subject of their conversation?Eva has to deal with an unfriendly sales assistant when buying a disguise of dark glasses and a cap. Now inconspicuous, she follows the elderly boookseller Yvan and the Man in the Black Hat. As the pair goes into the metro, Edmond the taxi driver arrives to offer his services. Eva declines and decides to continue her pursuit on her own. The player warns her that no one can help her in the metro.
Eva finally finds a bookseller who can help her. He directs her to another bookshop and then he's led away by the Man in the Black Hat. Eva follows. But is she getting into danger? The player tells Eva to start asking the booksellers if anyone of them can decipher the mysterious phrase. The first person she asks has no idea but is interested in buying her book. Fearing that she's being pursued, she runs off but drops her book. An elderly man picks it up for her and seems to know that it is important. He introduces himself as Yvan Salmon and whispers the beginning of the phrase, "La statue domine le mort...", and tells her to go to a bookshop at rue St. Sabin. Shortly after that, the Man in the Black Hat leads away the elderly man.
Eva reaches Notre Dame but has no idea which bookseller to contact. She's passed level one but is no closer to solving the mysterious phrase, "La statue domine le mort, mais la fertilité est retrouvée."Edmond tells Eva that she can call him for help whenever she wants. After getting to Notre Dame Eva does her first game save and successfully clears level one. Her first task on level two is to find the right bookseller to help her solve the riddle. But there are lots of booksellers and many stands. She's got a long way to go and time is running out.
On her way to Notre Dame, Eva loses time as she gets caught up in a demonstration of teachers. Since there's no chance of advancing, the player sacrifices points to buy a tool. Voilà Edmond, Eva's personal chauffeur. En route to the second hand booksellers at Notre-Dame, Eva gets held up by a demonstration of teachers. The sinister Man in the Black Hat follows her. To get Eva out of the crowd and away from the man, the player buys a remote control and Edmond the taxi driver, who will always be at Eva's service, appears.
A paramedic takes care of Eva and leads her to an ambulance. Is she in danger? Eva flees but the police follow her. She hides in a courtyard where she gets the next lead in her mission. An overly eager paramedic wants to take Eva away from the station in an ambulance. While he is escorting her to the vehicle, Eva escapes. The police are in hot pursuit so Eva takes refuge in the courtyard of an apartment block. The concierge asks her to get off the property but a little boy playing in the courtyard pretends she's a friend. He sees her book and tells her about the second-hand book shop at Notre Dame -- a useful lead.
Eva heads back to the railway station to follow up on the messenger's clues but it ends up costing her a life. She manages to find another clue. What does the mysterious message mean?Eva gladly accepts help from a railway station attendant so she can decipher the meaning of the code. But it's a bad move and Eva loses a life. She only has three more tries. After the player re-starts, Eva finds a locker in aisle a, row 2 and opens it using the code 1-8-5-2. Inside the locker, there's a book with the riddle: "La statue domine le mort, mais la fertilité est retrouvée." (The statue prevails over the dead man but fertility is regained.) This phrase is her ticket to more danger.
Only Eva can save France. But who are her allies? And who are her enemies? From a Parisian cafe she follows a messenger right into a blast at a railway station. Is it a trap? And what do the messenger's dying words mean? From a Parisian café with a surly waiter, Eva runs after a mysterious contact and ends up in the chaotic aftermath of an explosion.
