Jeff Urso slides back into the chair at Duffer's fresh off opening Hatricks in Mundelein right as the insane July heatwave hit. Half the AC working, belts snapping, fresh air intake fighting for its life — and he still got the place dialed in while running the kitchen and learning new wing tricks from his own chef. From bar ownership war stories (400-degree pizza ovens in 2010, ice makers holding up, bodies pumping out more heat than the equipment) the conversation rolls into what's actually happening in Lake Forest right now: the caucus interviewing mayoral hopefuls, the Block the Box fallout still costing the city, Jed Morris recusal drama, and whether anyone can run without splitting the vote. From there it's everywhere: Lake Forest Day parade route changes, the American Legion endowment debate, craft beer dying while big boys and infusions take over, fantasy football drafts on slow nights, Vegas stadium vibes, and why politicians sound different depending on who's in the room.So is the mayoral field already locked in with two caucus candidates? Will Lake Forest Day finally move to the weekend or stay mid-week for the bars? And who's actually paying attention to the charter, the pensions, and the block parties? We document. You decide.

Plus: DOJ Issues Subpoenas for NYT Qatar Plane Coverage. Jay Z is back. World Cup Final Four. MLB Allstar Game is Something Good. No guests today — just Paul Rieckhoff, coming to you from a brutally hot New York City with the five I's to keep you cool: independence, integrity, information, inspiration, and impact. The top story is a shock: Lindsey Graham, the 71-year-old South Carolina senator and staunch Trump ally, has died. Paul reflects on a complicated legacy — the man who voted to send him to war, drilled in the reserves as a sitting senator, disappointed vets by voting against the post-9/11 GI Bill, and eventually folded fully into Trump land, but who stood with Ukraine when it mattered. His pitch: pass Graham's Russia sanctions bill now and name it in his honor. He also flags the deeper problem with naming an inexperienced family member to a Senate seat that votes on war and peace, checks in on a silent, recovering Mitch McConnell, and breaks down Trump's reignited Iran war — the worst ceasefire ever, 140 targets hit over the weekend, and "President Mayhem" at his peak while markets churn. Then the throughline Paul says you can't look away from: ICE running rampant. Two more people killed in a week — in Biddeford, Maine, and in Houston — with DHS slow to explain and accountability nowhere in sight. Believe your eyes, he says: this is unlawful, unaccountable, and un-American, and shutting ICE down is a patriotic stance, not a partisan one — especially with the specter of the Insurrection Act looming. Paul also hits Trump's escalating war on the press (grand-jury subpoenas to the New York Times reporters who covered the Qatari-gifted Air Force One), some good news from the courts holding the line, a quick primary-season heads-up, and — because it's summer — Jay-Z at Yankee Stadium, a World Cup down to four headed for MetLife, and the "something good" of the MLB All-Star Game in Philly. Country over party, people over politics, light over heat. This week on Into The Necrosphere, Alan Averill of Primordial returns to the podcast for one of our most thought-provoking conversations to date. We discuss what it means to become a legacy band, why Primordial's lyrics seem more relevant today than they did thirty years ago, the rise of AI and its impact on creativity, and whether heavy metal is still capable of producing artists with genuine authenticity and staying power. We also explore the changing nature of the music industry, the pressures of growing older in extreme metal, why so much modern art feels increasingly disposable, and Alan shares his thoughts on the state of the scene as only he can. On the Weekly News Rant, I check out the latest singles by Hulder, From The Vastland, Terrestrial Hospice, Mordant Rhed, Left To Die and others, debate which modern black metal bands have what it takes to replace the likes of Mayhem, Emperor and Satyricon as genuine festival headliners, countdown my favourite Motörhead songs and, of course, dunk another deserving recipient on my Swirly of the Week. Plus: Epikoros deliver a fire-and-brimstone debut with “Black Sun Eclipse” and take a thoroughly deserved bow in the Unsanctioned Filth spotlight. Two stories broke in the same news cycle, and both are gut punches for anyone who cares about accountability. In Maine, Democratic Senate candidate and former Marine Graham Platner has withdrawn after a Nazi tattoo, ugly online history, and rape allegations from two women who went on the record. Paul was skeptical from day one — and lays out why Platner ducked every veteran interviewer who might have pressed him, why the progressive left keeps chasing candidates who look the part instead of doing the work, and why Maine, one of the most independent states in the country, deserved better than a binary between a compromised Democrat and Susan Collins. Then there's Iran. The so-called ceasefire was never real. Trump is now floating boots on the ground, still talking about hitting Cuba, and managed to blow up relations with Japan, Zelensky, and Putin in a single day. This is President Mayhem at peak volume — all gas, no brakes — with 50,000 U.S. troops in harm's way, 40% of the Navy in the region, and the Iranian regime emboldened. Paul explains why this is Trump's forever war, why Congress likely can't stop it, and what listeners can actually do about it before the December defense bill vote. -WATCH full video of this episode here. -Millions of American veterans are being locked out of primary elections in the country they served.
