The Fat One is back with Part 2 of the weekend report (and still doesn't finish) but reads several e-letters prior to continuing the recap which included a gentleman caller, attendance at the Charleston premiere of “The Puzzle” and a final bit of info on the Cement Pond party. Happy National Chocolate Chip Cookrie Day.
Day 2 of The Everyday Experiment is about something so ordinary it's almost invisible; the way you get low. Most of us have one way, and we've used it so many times that we've stopped noticing there are any others. Today I'm going to ask you to notice what that is, and if you're curious, try a different one. You might be surprised how much information there is about the way you move in that small moment.

A road rally sounds like racing until you learn the best teams win by thinking, not speeding. We sit down with John Poulos from the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Texas Region to break down what road rally really means: precision driving on public roads, sharp navigation, and a driver-navigator team solving a moving puzzle while trying not to miss a turn.We dig into the different “flavors” of SCCA road rallies, from time speed distance formats to scavenger-hunt style gimmick rallies, then zoom in on a DFW shortest-distance map rally where you do not get a pre-set route. You get a map, a stack of waypoints, and limited planning time to build the most efficient loop, hit every location, and come back with the lowest mileage. We also cover practical details people always ask about: street-legal car requirements, classes based on experience (not car type), odometer calibration, time limits, and how modern GPS rally apps can verify waypoint visits without needing volunteers posted everywhere. After the rally talk, we pivot into two more listener-favorite segments: Jeff's Car Culture on choosing the right car jack for your garage (including low-profile and specialty options), and Mike Marrs' driving destinations that turn Houston's flood-control engineering into real places you can visit, like Addicks Reservoir, Barker Reservoir, Buffalo Bayou, Terry Hershey Park, and the San Jacinto Monument view.Subscribe, share this with a friend who needs a new kind of car event, and leave a review so more drivers can find the show. "When faced with deficiencies instead of strengths and inclinations, this is the strategy you must assume: ignore your weaknesses and resist the temptation to be more like others."-Robert Greene, MasteryHe's writing about Temple Grandin, the Colorado State University professor who was diagnosed with autism as a child and has been a beacon of what is possible. And Greene's advice is this: direct yourself toward the small things you're good at and keep working on them. His point, and it's worth restating: our tendency is to focus on what went wrong or where we are weak. That's the mistake. We are all unique. One of one. Literally nobody else in the world with your combination of DNA and experiences. And when we spend our time on our "deficiencies" or our "weaknesses" we are wasting our time. It's our strengths that matter more. I'm not the first person to say this, but unfortunately, as a world, I'm not sure we're paying attention. We need to move those strengths to superpowers. Then work on the next thing. And the next.Leaders need to be cautious here. We can fall into the trap of trying to make people versions of ourselves. We find the deficiency or weakness. Likely, because we are good at it, it's easy for us to point out the flaw. Then we commit a leadership crime. We try to make you a version of us.That's not what we want. We want people to find their superpowers. To cultivate them. To give them permission to work on the one or two things they can be best in the world at. And then we need those brought into the team. That's the whole point. The same happens in the hiring process. Our bias for people like us is strong. We see people with strengths that we value. Absent those, we think less of the candidate. Why do we do this? Fear mostly. It's very human. We are worried about what can go wrong.Instead we should be spending our time on the strengths. Make sure they are a cultural fit, no jerks allowed, but understand their superpowers, or their potential superpowers. If they're still young, what superpowers lurk that they haven't found yet. Can you create the conditions for superpower cultivation? We have teams for a reason. Puzzle the people together. Yes, I made puzzle a verb, and I really like it. Puzzle them together like power rangers. Volume isn't what matters here. The number of rangers isn't what we're after. We're after the right mix.Red, Black, Blue, Yellow, Pink, and then Green (eventually White). All different weapons. And personalities. Disciplined, serious. Or fun and energetic. Or timid but genius. Or the thoughtful and grounded one. Bring their superpowers together and you get one big blaster.Power rangers. That's what we want.Take care. Be good.-kv This is a public episode. One Saturday morning, doing my New York Times Spelling Bee (don't judge me, it's a whole ritual), I decided to write down every piece of software my staging business runs on. I even had to dig through my bank statements to remember everything I was paying for. Nine or ten tools. Every one of them doing exactly what it was supposed to do. But staring at that list, I realized I hadn't built a system. I'd built a collection of tools that didn't know the others existed. That's the moment fragmentation clicked for me. None of those tools were wrong. They just weren't built for a staging business or designed to work together. Today, I'm sharing the story behind that realization, the decade of trial and error that led up to it, the conversations that nearly stopped me from pursuing the idea, and why I ultimately chose to build something from the ground up instead of settling for another workaround. What You'll Learn: What I mean by "fragmentation" and how to recognize it The question I started asking about every tool in my business Why I chose not to build on someone else's platform How years of solving small problems led to one much bigger solution RESOURCES: Join the Harlowe Inner Circle Waitlist: https://waitlist.harloweco.com/ Apply for Private Coaching: www.rethinkhomeinteriors.com/privatecoachingapp Enroll in Staging Business School Accelerate Track: www.rethinkhomeinteriors.com/accelerate Follow the Staging Business School on Instagram: www.instagram.com/stagingbusinessschool Follow Lori on Instagram: www.instagram.com/rethinkhome If you want to learn how to streamline your operations so you can grow with less stress and burnout in your staging business, enrollment is open for Staging Business School Accelerate Track. As part and parcel of China's compressed modernization, processes of state-led rural urbanization through land expropriation and rural-to-urban relocation have been transforming rural Chinese people's lives in unprecedented ways. This has led to different, often adverse outcomes for the affected populations – China's “landless peasants” - as well as to the construction of divergent narratives about the role of the Chinese state's measures for them. To provide a so-far missing perspective to existing research, Isabel Heger-Laube reconstructs the role of the experienced changes from landless peasants' own narratives, drawing on the “big” and “small” stories collected through fieldwork in Huaming model town in Tianjin's Dongli district. By focusing on ordinary people's subjective processes of meaning making, this book not only puts into perspective objective assessments and persistent narrative tendencies, but also sheds new light on the puzzle of social stability in the wake of large-scale, state-led transformations in contemporary China. China's Landless Peasants and the Role of State-led Rural Urbanization: Narratives, Meaning Making, and the Puzzle of Social Stability was published open access with Würzburg University Press in 2025. Productivity has been a problem for the past 15 years. In developed countries, weak demand, a lack of competition and a paucity of new ideas have all been blamed. Could AI finally reverse that trend? Soumaya speaks to Stanford economics professor Nick Bloom about why CFOs and CEOs expect AI to supercharge their businesses; how concentrated (or otherwise) the gains might be; and why working from home could be good for labour output… and fertility rates.Subscribe to Soumaya's show on Apple, Spotify, Pocket Casts or wherever you listen.Further ReadingIs AI productivity growth in the room with us right now?How much value is AI really creating?Hosted by Soumaya Keynes. The guys also cast a critical eye over the rest of the Scottish Premiership, breaking down Rangers' radical "ultra staunch" cost-cutting pivot under their new ownership and the tactical chaos brewing at Hearts following their heavy European defeat. Merneptah started his reign aggressively, striking a belligerent tone in his royal names and launching an expedition to Canaan in the first few years. In the process, his troops captured Ashkelon, Gezer, and Yenoam, and dealt with a tribe called "Israel." Episode 182 – Dada Part 1, Puzzle With this episode we start a new short segment on an unexpected band, Dada. A serendipitous find from 1992, Puzzle is Dada's debut album and is a true gem. Dada were a genre-bending delight that manifested in strong songwriting backed up with top-flight production. This segment is a true joy for us. Prog? Maybe less so than many would hope, but we can't recommend this album and group enough. Come along for a delightful ride into a fantastic corner of music.
