The story of Jacob is sprinkled throughout the book of Genesis....he is born in Genesis 25 and dies in Genesis 49 and is buried in Genesis 50. His fingerprints consume almost half of the book of Genesis. So I thought it would be a great challenge to explore the God of Jacob. What do we learn about God in His encounters with Jacob over the course of his life? What is it about God that Jacob learned....very slowly...but sustained him throughout life? And even more importantly, what did he learn that can sustain us throughout our lives? We serve the same God 3,800 years later – and if we call upon the God of Jacob, what would that mean for us? Because – we serve the same God!

Near the beginning of the story of the Bible, a man named Cain becomes jealous of his brother, who is getting God's favor. He is warned to keep his anger in check, but he caves and murders his brother. As a result, Cain is sent into the wilderness. And there, he builds the first city in the story of the Bible. What is the story of cities in the Bible? The Bible opens in a garden and ends with a garden in a city. What's that all about? We will explore the stories of several great cities in the Bible and learn what they teach us about God and His plan for humanity.
