We're not just watching history—we're living in the middle of God's unfolding purposes. In this message, Pastor Allen Jackson calls us to wake up, speak up, and stand with bold faith. As he refers to Scripture from throughout the Bible, Pastor Allen teaches if you reject the Truth and you follow evil, you will face a God of wrath and anger. That's not a threat; it's awareness (Romans 2:8). As the nations rage and Israel takes center stage, we must understand our role as God's people in this unique moment. It's time to embrace responsibility, reject passivity, and align with God's eternal promises. He's moving—let's not miss it.

Martyn Lloyd-Jones Sermon Podcast

Romans 1:18 — The wrath of God explained in Romans 1:18 is aimed at everyone who continues in sin. In this sermon titled “Ungodliness,” Dr. Martyn Lloyd- Jones outlines two key descriptions of sin from this verse: ungodliness and unrighteousness. One should be careful that these descriptions are always associated in this order and never mentioned apart. Ungodliness convicts all humans of sin because it shows how far they fall from the measure of God. Unrighteousness furthers guilt, showing how even in relationship with God and others, all have failed immensely and stand condemned. Paul warns that all will one day be judged on their response and relationship with God. The social gospel has no answer to God's wrath and nothing apart from Christ can reconcile sinners to God. Only hell awaits those who continue in transgressions, broken in their relationship with God, and awaiting His punishment. Yet because of Jesus Christ, there is hope for all who surrender and repent of sin.

Today, Wes and Sonia are joined by associate pastor Ben Fasano for a follow-up discussion on the respectable sin of ungodliness, which Ben preached on this past Sunday. As a reminder, each week this summer, the team will interview the pastor who preached the previous Sunday, diving deeper into the specific respectable sin and biblical text that he exposited. We are surrounded by ungodliness to a far greater degree than experienced by any previous generation – at least in the western world. We can say we “renounce ungodliness”, but putting what we say into action is getting more difficult: it means we must concentrate our minds on godly thoughts at every opportunity. The 46 verses of Paul's letter to Titus is an ideal source for mental fortification; we should not just read it, but we should also meditate on it. Titus is in Crete (1 v.5) to work for the Lord. The contrast between those who really believe – and those who give the appearance of believing is a problem in Crete – the parallels with the problems that challenge us today is increasingly apparent.Paul says, “a prophet of their own said, ‘Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons.' This testimony is true.” [1 v.12,13] Titus is told to “rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith … to the defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but both their minds and their consciences are defiled.. They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable …” [v.15,16] Sadly, Christianity in general is sliding toward doing this! How much is this influencing us?Titus is to set the example “Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.” [2 v.7,8]This leads Paul to make the point, “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope …” [v.11-13]Our sense of urgency in waiting for our hope to be fulfilled grows ever greater – a sense the younger generation can only partly appreciate – life today is so interesting! We stress it is “the grace of God” that provides the message of salvation and meaning for our existence. Let us appreciate that grace to the full – for we cannot ‘earn' a place in God's kingdom so as to deserve it – but, writes Paul, “being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” [3 v.7] How is your “training” progressing?

Nothing is more important than the condition of your soul, and this timeless work offers thought-provoking insight and biblical wisdom for those who wish to store up treasure in heaven. Originally written by Puritan pastor William Dyer (1632–1696), The Strait Way to Heaven presents twenty biblical principles that lead to a life of deep repentance, unwavering faith in Christ, and true holiness. With deep insights drawn from Scripture, Dyer urges readers to forsake sin, embrace righteousness, and walk steadfastly in obedience to God. This revised and updated edition preserves the heart of Dyer's message while making his rich teachings more accessible to today's readers. Written with passionate urgency and deep pastoral care, this book serves as both a convicting call to self-examination and an encouraging guide to the joy of a life fully surrendered to the Lord. Dyer's words remind us that holiness is the only true path to happiness and that the narrow road of faith leads to eternal life. Whether you are seeking a deeper relationship with Christ or a better understanding of the Christian walk, The Strait Way to Heaven will challenge and inspire you to live with purpose, integrity, and unshakable devotion to God. About the Editor Ron Metheny is a Baptist pastor and Christian author. His published works include: Why, God? Why?! (Understanding Habakkuk), 'Twas the Devotional before Christmas: Daily Readings for Advent, and Echoes of Thunder (A Collection of Christian Quotes and Godly Wit). He lives in Kentucky.

As we continue our study of Paul's letter to the believers in Rome, we come to a passage that may be the most controversial of our time. (Romans 1:26-32 will be the text.) It's in here, so let's address it. I believe Paul puts emphasis on a particular sin for two reasons: its prevalence in Roman society, and its affront to God's design for His creation. However, if we keep reading, Paul will cover a vast range of human depravity. This is the end result of having rejected His truth in favor of lies. Observe the world around you, and know that he speaks the truth. But God has not left us there. Before Paul begins describing the state of those who reject God, he proclaims the power of the good news of Jesus Christ to save. I am blind. If you see me about to walk out in front of a car, I hope you will call out to warn me. If I believe that you are on a path that leads to death, to call out to you to turn around is not hate, it is love. As you listen, I hope you will here God's heart and mine.

Ungodliness is progressive. It does not sit idle, but worsens. We must be wary of underestimating the severity of any offense. The Psalmist reveals the progressive nature of ungodliness, “Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful” (Psalm 1:1).

As bad as it is to be physically impaired, however, it is even worse to be spiritually impaired. God has not only given us our senses to know reality; He has also given us a mind. We are supposed to use our mind to know the world around us, to understand the truth. We find this difficult because we are wounded by original sin with the wound of ignorance. This makes it laborious for us to discover the truth and it also makes us susceptible to being influenced in the wrong way in regard to the truth. There is a lot of noise for us to sift through. But there is another difficulty that we have independently of that wound. It is the fact that we have the wrong perspective on reality. We tend to think that we are the center of reality because we are at the center of what is perceiving reality. We tend to think that the world revolves around us because we are at the center of our perception of the world. This leads us to having a spiritual impairment or what might be called a “spiritual disability”. It is through the practice of our Catholic faith that we seek to overcome our spiritual impairment and see reality correctly. Our faith assists us to see reality as it is, with God at its center and with us as just little, tiny creatures. When the world turns away from God and exaggerates the rights of man, it increases spiritual disability. Ungodliness in society makes people detached from reality, unable to see reality. It makes people full of pride; it makes them think that they are god, not only that they are the center of reality, but they actually have the power to make reality. When spiritual disability becomes extreme, we give a special name to the condition that the person is in: we call it “madness”. After a century of deifying man, we have reached a point where we can say that a certain madness afflicts modern society. I think that, when people look back on this decade of the 2020s, they might well call it the “decade of madness” one day because society is so far from reality. There are stories of this madness that come out every week. This past week, a woman boxer had to quit a match after 45 seconds because she was being pummeled by a male boxer in the Olympics. Many were rightfully crying out how unfair it was for a man to be boxing against a woman and how it made all of that woman's efforts useless.
