Welcome to the Harvest Bible Chapel podcast. We're in the series True Religion from the Book of James. This weekend, Pastor Christian Constante continues our series True Religion: The Book of James with a message titled “The Inconsistency of Partiality” from James 2:1–13. Faith in Jesus leaves no room for favoritism. James challenges us to examine how we view and treat others—reminding us that showing partiality contradicts the very heart of the gospel. True faith looks beyond appearance, status, or influence and honors people the way God does. As you watch and listen, ask the Lord to align your heart with His kingdom priorities. May we be a people who extend mercy, reflect His character, and live as those judged by the law of liberty…where mercy triumphs over judgment. Welcome to the Harvest Bible Chapel podcast. We're in the series True Religion from the Book of James. This weekend, Pastor Jeff Bucknam opens James 1:27 with a challenging message called “Two Marks of True Religion.” What proves that someone really follows Jesus? According to James, it's not flashy rituals or religious talk, but two unmistakable marks—caring for the oppressed and remaining unstained by the world. Listen as Pastor Jeff unpacks these life-defining truths and calls us to a faith that shows up in love and holiness. This podcast is a production of Harvest Bible Chapel in Chicago. Are we acting justly? God calls His people to live with integrity by doing what is right, even when it is not easy, and by loving mercy. True faith is not revealed in rituals but in daily actions that reflect God's character. Let us walk humbly with Him and let our lives reveal His character.

In the opening verses, James wastes no time—he goes straight to one of the hardest and most important parts of following Jesus: how we face trials. Pastor Jeff Bucknam opens God's Word in James 1:1–4 and reminds us that trouble will come, but trials are not meaningless. In God's hands, they shape our faith, strengthen our perseverance, and form us into the likeness of Christ. This message, Here Comes Trouble, will challenge you to think differently about suffering and to see how God is at work—even in the hardest moments of life. Let's listen in. On this week's episode of The 1 Girl Revolution Podcast, we welcome Amanda Booth — model, actress, advocate, and mother. You may know Amanda from her incredible modeling career, from national campaigns for Lancôme, Target, and True Religion, or from her appearances in Parents, Harper's Bazaar, and People magazines. But in this deeply personal and powerful episode, Amanda opens up about a very different part of her journey — motherhood, advocacy, and life with her son Micah, who has Down Syndrome and nonverbal autism. When Amanda and her husband, Mike, became parents to Micah, their world shifted — and so did their purpose. Instead of hiding behind the camera, they stepped into the spotlight to share their story, spread love and awareness, and break down harmful stereotypes around Down Syndrome and disability. Through storytelling, modeling, fashion, and everyday family life, Amanda has become a leading voice in the Down Syndrome community and a fierce advocate for inclusion and representation. In this episode, you'll hear: ✨ Amanda's journey from international fashion model to proud mother and advocate; ✨ Micah's birth story — and how his life changed Amanda's perspective on life and purpose; ✨ How Amanda uses storytelling, photography, and social media to raise awareness and build community; ✨ The beauty and joy of life with Micah — and what he teaches her every day; ✨ The importance of inclusion in fashion, media, and society; ✨ Amanda's advice to parents navigating a diagnosis or raising a child with different needs; ✨ And so much more! Send us a textWe promised it would happen, and we're nothing if not true to our word. This week we're digging into the wild and whacky ways of Mormonism! An angelic vision and ancient text deciphered via a hat and some seer stones has resulted in a religion with more than 17.5 million followers. Since we're in our EBC Lite era, we're not doing a deep dive, but we are slinging facts that leave us with more questions than answers. We'll learn about Trek, that Bigfoot may actually be Cain, and that The Garden of Eden is actually right here in the United States. You'll never guess where. While there may be some jaw dropping revelations, we love all of our religious listeners and hope you find it in you to laugh along with us and realize that every religion is a little bit kooky. Have you experienced the kind of spiritual rebirth that leads to real change? James 1:19–27 teaches that saving faith isn't passive—it's transformational. In this sermon, Pastor Josiah explores how the Word of God not only saves us but reshapes us. Through vivid illustrations and pastoral exhortation, you'll discover that “real religion” means more than just hearing Scripture—it means receiving it with humility, obeying it with integrity, and displaying it through a life of mercy, holiness, and self-control. The gospel doesn't just inform your life; it transforms it. Why does the life of a true Christian look so different from the world? Listen to this week's message and find out!

James 1:19–27 reminds us that hearing God's Word isn't enough, we have to live it. Just like it's crazy to look in a mirror, see toothpaste on your shirt, and walk away, it's just as crazy to hear the Word and do nothing with it. Real faith listens before speaking, throws out moral junk, lives out what it hears, and shows up in speech, service, and purity.Need Prayer?

Believing the Lies We Tell Ourselves (James 1:16-27) James 1 Era June 8, 2025 Essential Church SUMMARY The message revolves around themes of self-deception and the importance of application over mere knowledge. It uses the TV series "Breaking Bad" as a metaphor to explore these themes. The narrative highlights the protagonist's journey, where he justifies his morally questionable actions by claiming they are for his family, only to reveal later that he did it for himself. This serves as a cautionary tale about self-deception and rationalization. The message also delves into spiritual maturity, emphasizing that true growth comes from applying knowledge in one's life, not just acquiring it. It draws parallels between the protagonist's story and the teachings in the Book of James from the Bible, which stresses the importance of being doers of the word, not just hearers. The speaker encourages listeners to act on their convictions and not be content with merely understanding their shortcomings. Additionally, the message touches on the concept of God's unchanging nature, contrasting it with human tendencies to deceive themselves about their spiritual state. It calls for living in the light of truth and taking action rather than blaming circumstances or "bad lighting" for one's failures. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. **Self-Deception and Rationalization**: - How does the concept of self-deception manifest in our daily lives, and what are some common rationalizations we use to justify our actions? - In what ways can we identify and overcome self-deception in our personal and professional lives? 2. **Application of Knowledge**: - Why is it important to apply knowledge rather than just acquire it? Can you think of examples where application led to significant personal growth? - How can we ensure that we are not just hearers of knowledge but doers as well? 3. **Spiritual Maturity**: - What does spiritual maturity mean to you, and how can it be achieved? - Discuss the role of motives in spiritual practices. How can we ensure our motives are pure? 4. **Freedom and Self-Mastery**: - How does self-mastery contribute to personal freedom, and what steps can we take to achieve it? - Discuss the balance between following guidelines and experiencing freedom. How do these concepts coexist? 5. **True Religion and Motives**: - What is the significance of helping those who cannot help you back, and how does this reflect true religious practice? - How can we examine and purify our motives in our actions and relationship

To become the first queen in centuries, a powerfully blessed blacksmith must use her wits and fire magic to overthrow the corrupt powers ruling her kingdom—while also fighting her growing desire for one of her dragon-riding adversaries—in the first book of a sizzling Celtic-inspired fantasy romance duology.Once a territory built on matriarchal rule and values, Tìr Teine has since grown frail from a long line of fruitless kings, the most recent of which have ruled under the influence of the True Religion, an oppressive group who have steadily poisoned the region with their anti-magic teachings.Born to rule and blessed by fire, Aemyra has begrudgingly lived in hiding rather than risk her life in court, waiting in anticipation for the current king's death so she can bond to his dragon, claim her throne, and protect her people. But when the king dies and Aemyra is ready to take what is rightfully hers, her ambitious plan is foiled, and she is thrust into a game of vicious politics and plots. Her biggest adversary is Prince Fiorean, a dragon rider and one of the most powerful fire wielders in the territory. Cold, arrogant, and blindly supportive of his corrupt family, he is everything Aemyra despises. But as chaos engulfs the court, they find themselves reluctantly entwined, forced to forge an uneasy alliance—one that quickly ignites into something more dangerous than either of them expected.Behind enemy lines and slowly falling for her so-called adversary, Aemyra uncovers just how far the rot of corruption has spread, and what she may have to sacrifice to claim her throne. Ever felt like you're just going through the motions in your faith? In this challenging episode, Pastor Derek Holmes invites us to an uncomfortable dinner party recorded in Luke 11:37-12:3. Jesus, as the guest of honor, directly confronts his Pharisee hosts, revealing their hypocrisy. He exposes how they meticulously cultivate an outward appearance of righteousness while their hearts remain untouched by true holiness. But the Pharisees aren't the only ones under scrutiny. Jesus then turns to the Scribes, the religious lawyers of the day, and uncovers how their rigid legalism was burdening and oppressing the very people they were meant to guide. Both groups, Pastor Holmes explains, were practicing a "tainted religion" – one that prioritized external show over internal transformation. Join us for "Behind the Mask" as Pastor Holmes unpacks this potent encounter. Discover why true Christianity must go more than skin deep. It's a call to examine our own hearts and ensure our faith is genuine, gives all honor and glory to Him, and fully welcomes His transformative presence in every aspect of our lives. This is a lesson for us all on the vital importance of authenticity in our walk with Christ.

Spurgeon regularly throws a little exegetical advice into his sermons, often at the beginning, and he does so here, encouraging his hearers to interpret each portion of Scripture in its context, which he immediately applies to his text, in which Job claims that “the root of the matter is found in me.” Spurgeon first examines this root and defines it in terms of confidence in a living Redeemer. Next, he digs deeper into the matter of something which lies at the root—something which is essential, vital, comprehensive of all the rest. Thirdly, Spurgeon addresses the fact that we can personally discern our possession of this root, not always easily but carefully and comfortingly. Finally, he presses some practical lessons upon our souls, especially considering the way in which we can—in various ways and to various degrees—be guilty of persecuting someone in whom is the root of the matter. It is another example of the remarkable number of directions in which Spurgeon can turn the truth in a single sermon. In this episode Lane Tipton and Camden Bucey continue their discussion of Geerhardus Vos's Biblical Theology, focusing on pages 369–371. This section addresses Jesus' teaching on the divine majesty and greatness, the retributive righteousness of God, and the implications for true religion. Lane Tipton explains how Vos maintains the biblical tension between God's transcendent majesty and his loving condescension. They discuss how Vos's doctrine of God stands against the errors of theological liberalism, which often reduces the divine character to a single attribute of love divorced from holiness and righteousness. The conversation highlights how Jesus' teaching does not abandon the concept of divine retribution but presents it as an essential and irreducible aspect of God's nature. Drawing connections to the contemporary theological landscape, Camden and Lane address modern tendencies to elevate divine love to the exclusion of justice. They also explore the ways in which Reformed theology provides a robust foundation for understanding God's attributes in their fullness, without compromising his immutability or impassibility. Listen in as they unpack Vos's profound insights and demonstrate how they continue to speak to modern theological debates. 00:07 Introduction 07:41 Vos's Critique of Liberalism 11:32 The Attributes of God 17:02 The Impassibility of God and Its Importance 28:19 True Religion and God's Transcendence 33:04 The Retributive Righteousness of God 44:51 Practical Application 49:53 Conclusion
