===== MDJ Script/ Top Stories for November 21st Publish Date: November 21st Commercial: From the BG AD Group Studio, Welcome to the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast. Today is Friday, November 21st and Happy Birthday to Stan The Man Musial I’m Keith Ippolito and here are the stories Cobb is talking about, presented by Times Journal Cobb targets millions in federal funds to counter drones, boost World Cup security Smyrna denies five-story apartment building Interrogation videos highlight third day of trial for man accused of killing Acworth neighbors Plus, Leah McGrath from Ingles Markets on rice All of this and more is coming up on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe! BREAK: INGLES 10 STORY 1: Cobb targets millions in federal funds to counter drones, boost World Cup security Next summer, Cobb County will play host to international soccer teams prepping for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, one of the biggest sporting events ever. With Atlanta set to host eight matches at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Cobb will handle training, transportation, and fan events. But with that comes challenges—crowds, security, and logistics. To prepare, county officials are asking for Homeland Security grants to boost safety measures, including $7.5–$12 million for drone detection tech. Training sites? Atlanta United’s grounds in Marietta, KSU’s Fifth Third Stadium, and possibly Pace Academy. “The more popular the team, the bigger the crowds,” said Cobb EMA Director Cassie Mazloom. STORY 2: Smyrna denies five-story apartment building The Smyrna City Council shot down a rezoning request for a 250-unit apartment complex this week, with a 5-2 vote against the proposal. Wood Partners South Acquisitions LLC had pitched a five-story mixed-use development on 6.7 acres along Highlands Parkway, near Technology Court. The plan included 250 apartments—mostly one- and two-bedroom units—plus retail space, a pool, and a courtyard. Councilwoman Latonia Hines acknowledged the project’s quality but questioned the location. “It’s a great development—just not here,” she said. The Planning Board and city staff had already recommended denial, citing conflicts with the area’s industrial zoning. STORY 3: Interrogation videos highlight third day of trial for man accused of killing Acworth neighbors On the third day of Matthew Lanz’s murder trial, the defense finally had its turn. Lanz, now 26, sat quietly in a green jumpsuit, his hair unkempt, his face hidden behind a scruffy beard. Prosecutors played interrogation videos from 2021, where Lanz, then 22, denied killing his neighbors, Justin and Amber Hicks. “I didn’t murder them,” he said. “Someone murdered them.” The Hicks, both 31, were found shot to death in their home, their two-year-old son unharmed nearby. Lanz is accused of breaking in through a back window and pulling the trigger. The trial, a bench trial at the defense’s request, will hinge on Judge Sonja Brown’s decision. Prosecutors rested their case Wednesday, leaving the defense to decide if Lanz will testify. In one chilling video, Lanz asked police if Amber Hicks had been pregnant. She wasn’t, but his comment left the courtroom uneasy. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.799.6810 for more info. We’ll be right back. Break: STRAND THEATRE STORY 4: State Senate election appears headed toward runoff It looks like Democrats Jaha Howard and Roger Bruce are headed for a runoff in the special election to fill the state Senate seat vacated by Jason Esteves. Unofficial results show Howard leading with 32.6% of the vote, followed by Bruce at 25.4%. The six-candidate race was a whirlwind, with just over a month to campaign. “We had to gear up in days,” Howard said, calling the campaign a “faith journey.” Bruce, a Capitol veteran with 22 years in the Georgia House, leaned on endorsements from big names like former Gov. Roy Barnes. The runoff is set for Dec. 16. STORY 5: Smyrna limits vape shop locations, approves Tolleson Aquatic Center contract This week, Smyrna’s City Council cracked down on vape shops, unanimously passing an ordinance to define and restrict them. “Right now, they’re just lumped in with general retail,” said Community Development Director Rusty Martin. “This lets us set some boundaries.” The new rules? Vape shops—defined as retailers primarily selling alternative nicotine or vapor products—can’t open within 1,000 feet of another vape shop, schools, or daycares. In other council news, Arrow Waste got the green light (6-1) for a temporary office on Riverview Road, despite concerns about a nearby fuel tank. Also approved: a $16.23M contract for the Tolleson Aquatic Center, set to open in 2027. And now here is Leah McGrath from Ingles Markets on rice We’ll have closing comments after this. In this episode, Patrick Francey sits down with Dre Baldwin to explore what it really takes to command a room, win consistently, and translate athletic rigor into business results. Dre opens by defining presence as an energetic signal people feel before they know your resume. It is not height, clothing, or a pasted-on smile. Presence is the outward expression of inner order built from discipline, structure, strategy, execution, and confidence. Patrick shares a story about receiving feedback that his natural intensity could feel intimidating. By loosening his look and adding a conscious smile, he noticed people approached him more easily. Dre explains that strong presence creates productive tension. You can dial that tension up or down, but easing it too much can reduce your impact. Dre draws on sports to explain why presence cannot be faked. In basketball, the scoreboard is objective. Talent gets you in the door, but disciplined habits keep you there. The pros and the “plumbers” both know thousands want their spot, so work ethic matters most on the days you do not feel like showing up. That same logic applies in business. Leaders with true presence raise standards without speeches. Their very arrival makes others sit up, focus, and perform. Mindset is the first lever. Dre uses the BE → DO → HAVE model. You become the person, then you do the work, and only then do you have the results. Because most thoughts are subconscious, you must reprogram the mind through repetition, immersion, and emotional intensity. Practical cues like posture, eye contact, and putting your phone away can spark a quick confidence reset, but lasting presence comes from living your structure daily. Dre also addresses life after sport. He intentionally planned his transition rather than defaulting to coaching or training. The concept of “credibility fusion” allows you to carry forward lessons from different arenas and combine them into a coherent value proposition. He closes with his GAME model for achievement: define what winning looks like, build the skills and tools, install structure that produces discipline, let discipline create consistency, let consistency build confidence, and let confidence power performance and results. Patrick wraps by highlighting the episode's central insight: presence is a way of being that anyone can build through disciplined execution and a trained mind. This week, The Voices of SOUL ON FIRE series turns up the volume as we're joined by the man whose song has become the heartbeat of the film: Mac Powell. Mac Powell has spent over three decades sharing his voice and his heart with the world. As the Grammy-winning lead singer of Third Day, he helped shape Christian music, selling over 10 million albums and filling arenas across the globe, and has continued that legacy as a solo artist, blending faith, music, and life in powerful ways. Today, Mac shares how faith reshaped his path from “band nerd” to frontman, the adoption journey that transformed his family, and the stories behind songs like Cry Out to Jesus and Soul On Fire—a song that has now become the anthem for the upcoming film SOUL ON FIRE. My friends, you'll leave this conversation reminded that faith can turn fear into courage, interruptions into blessings, and ordinary moments into something extraordinary.

Tai Anderson is 4X Grammy Award winner with the Atlanta based rock band Third Day. Every record the released went RIAA gold with the exception of 1. In "contemporary Christian music" that is pretty rare. Tai talks about the early days, Roswell High School, Atlanta venues, recording studios, and his relationship with music. It's cool to see a grateful man talk about a band that means so much to my formidable years. In the spring of 2026 they are going on a 30 city arena tour to commemorate the release of their first record. In tow they are bringing another Grammy Award winner, Zach Williams. On this episode of Great Practice, Great Life®, Steve Riley welcomes Dre Baldwin, former professional basketball player, prolific author, and founder of Work on Your Game Inc. Dre shares how his career was shaped not just on the court, but at home, where his parents modeled daily discipline and quiet resilience that made him “too stupid to quit.” From an early age, Dre watched his parents show up for their responsibilities, day in and day out, regardless of how they felt. That consistency became the foundation of his own mindset: showing up was non-negotiable. It's a lesson he carried into his athletic career and beyond. When he didn't get drafted into the NBA, Dre pivoted. He found another path—one that required just as much discipline, and just as much resilience. Rather than see setbacks as failures, Dre treated them as invitations to grow. He began documenting his process and sharing videos online—before content creation was even a buzzword. As he continued to show up, his audience grew. His approach resonated not just with athletes, but with entrepreneurs, business professionals, and attorneys—anyone striving for consistency in the face of pressure. In this episode, Dre shares how he built a global platform rooted in daily execution and mental discipline. He talks about how a professional mindset—distinct from an amateur one—is the key to long-term results. Dre also introduces key ideas from his latest book, The Third Day, where he breaks down how to keep showing up when motivation runs dry. If you've ever felt burned out, unmotivated, or unsure how to push through, this episode is a must-listen. Dre Baldwin's Work on Your Game philosophy is a reminder that success isn't a moment—it's a practice. In this episode, you will hear: Dre Baldwin's transition from professional basketball player to influential content creator and coach Insights into the distinction between amateur and professional mindsets The role of resilience and creativity in overcoming challenges and achieving success The concept of “The Third Day” and its importance for consistent persistence and professional commitment The application of sports discipline and resilience to everyday life and professional settings The importance of personal development and using setbacks as opportunities for growth Dre's approach to content creation and engaging with a diverse audience beyond sports Catch Dre Baldwin live at this year's Summit! Dre will take the Atticus Summit stage as a keynote speaker with Work on Your Game: Apply the Pro Athlete Mindset at Work & in Life. In this engaging and inspiring session, you'll discover the Mental Game strategies Dre used to go from a benchwarmer to a professional—principles that apply not only at work, but also in the gym and in everyday life. You'll learn how to maximize productivity on “The Third Day,” leverage “Separation Days” to gain an edge over competitors, unlock your highest level of confidence through “The Super You,” prepare like the top 1% of achievers, and condition yourself to win like a champion athlete. SHOW SUMMARY In this episode of Selling from the Heart Podcast, Larry Levine and Darrell Amy are joined by Dre Baldwin, also known as Dre All Day. Dre shares the powerful concept of “The Third Day”—the moment where discipline, mindset, and resilience collide. From basketball courts around the world to stages and podcasts that influence millions, Dre reveals how consistency and confidence are key to thriving in sales and life. The episode also highlights how sales professionals can show up as their authentic selves and maintain performance even when motivation is gone. If you're ready to rise above mediocrity and embrace discipline as your edge, this is your episode. KEY TAKEAWAYS The Third Day Concept: The toughest day in any journey is the Third Day—the day you show up without external motivation. It's also the day that separates amateurs from professionals. Discipline Creates Confidence: Repeated, consistent effort builds internal belief and trust in your abilities. Mindset is Foundational: Success in sales (and life) begins with how you think and view yourself. Take Initiative: The best opportunities come to those who proactively create them. Show Up Authentically: Selling from the heart means showing up as your true self, no matter the setting. Sales as Service: Selling is not about pressure—it's about helping, guiding, and leading.HIGHLIGHT QUOTES Discipline is the decision that separates the pros from the amateurs.Your moral obligation as a salesperson is to help people, and that's the only way you make money.Nobody can perform in a way that is incongruent with how they see themselves for an extended period of time.Mindset is the foundation of everything. What you think leads to what you do, and what you do leads to what you get.

I have chickens. They are not my chickens. They belong to the neighbor. He already had chickens in a chicken coop. Now he has ten more chickens. They are not in the chicken coop. They are in my yard. My flowers. Digging holes in the yard and around the foundation of the house. Pooping on the porch. Hanging out. I tried playing red-tail hawk sounds really loud. I tried taking watermelon rinds and veggie scraps over to their property, but they still lurk in the shady spots and follow me around every time I go outside to work. They just stick around. It took me a whole day to lay chicken wire under the flower bed mulch to keep them from destroying my carefully designed and freshly-planted flower beds. We let the neighbor know, but so far, we still have sticken' chickens. I even told them the story of when Billie Idol went missing, but while they enjoyed story time, they don't connect Billie's demise to their current situation. Chickens are like that. When I was four years old, my first pet was a chicken named Slicker. Grandma's cat Fuchsia ate it. I didn't connect a cat to Slicker's current situation. I was telling a good friend about our sticken' chickens yesterday, and we were chatting about the danger of Moses' forty days of absence on the mountain. The Israelites and mixed multitude pretty much gave up on his return. In spite of every miracle they'd seen, they couldn't wait forty full days for the next one. Not only that, they started breaking the Big Ten. An idol. Sexual immorality. You know the story. They'd been delivered from slavery in Egypt; they'd been immersed as a congregation in the Reed Sea; they'd witnessed the glory of Adonai and agreed to His covenant at the mountain…and yet, they had sticken' chickens from Egypt. They went right back to feeding slavery to sin. “For I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed through the sea; and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea...” (1 Co 10:1-2) The tunnel of the Reed Sea was like a birth canal. Immersion has always been a symbol of a resurrection that is more than symbolic. On the Third Day of Creation was a birth of life from the water to fruit trees. On the dawn of the Seventh Day of Passover, the Israelites completed a supernaturally fast, effortless journey through the Reed Sea. Likewise, immersion (mikveh) is undertaken as a rebirth. The pattern is this: • Water represents spirit (as does fire) • The earth is the substance of mankind, adam • When YHVH turns the sea into dry land as a way of escape, that which was spirit became substance/flesh in order to provide a new beginning for Israel/mankind, a resurrection from the sin decay of mere earth to earthly life with the spirit, a promise of wholeness and perfections completed from above • New life follows a mikveh in Messiah, the Great Hand of YHVH. This is the mystical picture of the Reed Sea. When YHVH turned the sea into dry land, he figuratively resurrected the Israelites. When the natural body dies, it returns to the earth. In Messiah Yeshua, the bared arm of YHVH, mankind is resurrected from earth through water. “What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have become united with Him in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection, knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with,
