Hey Sister Friend! Coming at you live from the no judgment zone, I have a serious question to ask, Are you authentic or a hypocrite? Do hypocritical people drive you crazy? Does your "walk" match up with your "talk"? Do you have a social media face but also an at home, fed up face? How do you handle it when you are called out for a behavior, your words or some habit you have? It may be something you have no idea is offensive so you feel blindsided when it's brought to your attention! Or, on the flip side of that coin, maybe you are the one calling out a sin, pointing to a harmful or immature behavior. How do you handle that task? In today's episode we are starting the year off with a hard topic, one sure to get you thinking! If you've experienced a hard conversation, I'd love to get your perspective in the comments below! Why do people turn from God, leave the church, and run from broken relationships? This week, we look at the damage of hypocrisy and how we can get healing from hurt within the church. Join us as we look at the seven "woes" recorded in Matthew 23 and see what Jesus had to say on the topic.
Loser. Ugly. Bossy. Dramatic. Pathetic. Stubborn. Liar. Hypocrite. Lazy. Mean. Snob. Stingy. Greedy. Weak. Are these names that you want to be identified with? What about these? Beautiful. Kind. Helpful. Generous. Ambitious. Hard-working. Joyful. Peace-maker. Respectful. Strong. Dedicated. Faithful. Capable. Talented. Names matter, don't they? What people call you matters. We all want to have a good name. We all want to be known as someone good. When people spread rumors about us and tarnish our good name, when they act like are a nobody, or when they use our name to disparage another, we get angry and hurt. That is how God feels when we dishonor His name too.

Message 01/15/2023 "Who Will I Walk Behind?" by Justin McTeer. *All verses are NLT unless otherwise noted* But it is my faith in my Lord Jesus Christ, my Savior, that truly sustains me. Worrying about what will happen is a waste of time. I am so grateful for the life He has given me. I love my family. And I know what awaits me at the end, whether it is soon or decades from now. So I give thanks to the Lord for He is good and His love endures forever Matthew 4:18-22 - One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. 19 Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” 20 And they left their nets at once and followed him. 21 A little farther up the shore he saw two other brothers, James and John, sitting in a boat with their father, Zebedee, repairing their nets. And he called them to come, too. 22 They immediately followed him, leaving the boat and their father behind. Matthew 9:9 - As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at his tax collector's booth. “Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him. So Matthew got up and followed him. Bet Sefer - House of the Book Bet Talmud - House of Learning Bet Midrash - House of Study Luke 2:45-47 - When they couldn't find him, they went back to Jerusalem to search for him there. 46 Three days later they finally discovered him in the Temple, sitting among the religious teachers, listening to them and asking questions. 47 All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. Rabbis were greatly respected, and to be a disciple of a famous rabbi was an honor. Rabbis were expected not only to have a vast knowledge about the Bible, but to show through their exemplary lives how to live by the Scriptures. A disciple's goal was to gain the rabbi's knowledge, but even more importantly, to become like him in character. It was expected that when the disciple became mature, he would take his rabbi's teaching to the community, add his own understanding, and raise up disciples of his own. His goal was to become like his rabbi and learn his [ways] until he internalized it... This continued until he became a full-fledged rabbi or scribe at the age of thirty Mark 4:38 - Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don't you care that we're going to drown?” Give Peace Matthew 11:28-30 - Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Look Inward Matthew 7:3-5 - And why worry about a speck in your friend's eye when you have a log in your own? 4 How can you think of saying to your friend,] ‘Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,' when you can't see past the log in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend's eye. Change you Challenge you Matthew 18:21-35 - Then Peter came to him and asked, “Lord, how often should I forgive someone who sins against me? Seven times?” 22 “No, not seven times,” Jesus replied, “but seventy times seven! 23 “Therefore, the Kingdom of Heaven can be compared to a king who decided to bring his accounts up to date with servants who had borrowed money from him. 24 In the process, one of his debtors was brought in who owed him millions of dollars. 25 He couldn't pay, so his master ordered that he be sold—along with his wife, his children, and everything he owned—to pay the debt. 26 “But the man fell down before his master and begged him, ‘Please, be patient with me, and I will pay it all.' 27 Then his master was filled with pity for him, and he released him and forgave his debt. 28 “But when the man left the king, he went to a fellow servant who owed him a few thousand dollars. He grabbed him by the throat and demanded instant payment. 29 “His fellow servant fell down before him and begged for a little more time. ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay it,' he pleaded. 30 But his creditor wouldn't wait. He had the man arrested and put in prison until the debt could be paid in full. 31 “When some of the other servants saw this, they were very upset. They went to the king and told him everything that had happened. 32 Then the king called in the man he had forgiven and said, ‘You evil servant! I forgave you that tremendous debt because you pleaded with me. 33 Shouldn't you have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?' 34 Then the angry king sent the man to prison to be tortured until he had paid his entire debt. 35 “That's what my heavenly Father will do to you if you refuse to forgive your brothers and sisters from your heart.”
When asked the deep theological question: "does man have free will or does God completely control every decision?" -- someone once answered that with "Yes, Yes, Next Question!" :) As Pastor Mark teaches today, you'll learn that there is truth to that -- and we probably won't figure it out or understand it until we get home. Of course, Jesus desires that everyone be saved, and that was explained to the Pharisees - as we are studying today. The hearts of so many of them were hypocritical and hardened. Jesus continued to give opportunity for a changed mind and heart, yet some just didn't believe or follow Him.
Guilty by association. Were you ever lumped into trouble when maybe you technically did nothing wrong? It's a real thing! As Pastor Mark teaches today, you'll learn that the Lord said we'd be guilty of all the wrong that is being done in our generation unless we repent and stand against it. Finding the courage the be counter-cultural is getting harder, but it's so vitally important! God's chosen people are called peculiar for a reason: we are like salmon swimming upstream more often than not. Ask the Lord to give you the strength to keep on swimming upstream!
Good things sometimes become a distraction, and therefore a hindrance to something better. To say it another way: there are kind and noble acts, disciplines for your faith, mind, and body -- but when those things take the place of a free relationship with God, Your Father, something's wrong. That's the problem with hypocrisy - as Pastor Mark is teaching today. The rule-keepers of Jesus' day were good at keeping the rules. No wonder they were offended when Christ challenged them. The "thing" is not the point. Jesus is the point - and the more we can re-center ourselves on that truth, the better!
Matthew: Clash of Kingdoms | "Woe to the Hypocrites!" | 01.08.23 | Todd Hessel
Look around you. Do you think common sense has gone out the window? Do you think the world has it backward most of the time? Have you noticed that reality isn't acknowledged for what it is -- and it seems like the laws of the universe are being negotiated on a daily basis? Yeah... me too! It's enough to make one think that all hope seems lost. But...As Pastor Mark teaches today, this has been going on since the time of Christ. There were those denying the empty tomb was all just a hoax, just hours and days after it happened. Some just won't believe it, even when the truth is right in front of them. Be grateful for the faith to believe in yourself today!

In this miscellany episode, I cover a wide variety of unrelated topics. I start by arguing that many segments of the church are being influenced by the culture to change their theology rather than remaining faithful to Biblical teaching. I make the case that the reason some people do not change their theological persuasions is because they don't know how to evaluate the debate - not because they don't love the truth. Then I make the case for the use of labels. I make a plea to change the way we relate to our phones. We should not be a slave to our phone, but make it a slave to us. I address the question of sincerity in forgiveness, and round out the episode by talking about the true meaning of hypocrite. His obsession with climate change seems to disappear when it's not convenient for him and in the typical liberal fashion he shames those who do the same. Wake the Faith up Slayer… This is Garth Heckman with the David Alliance and you can reach me at TDAgiantslayer@gmail.com !Garth5150! Brought to you by wellbuiltbody.com Gym Apparel for men and women that rocks and shocks and ain't for everybody - but just might be for you. wellbuiltbody.com Hypocrisy is the homage (reverence) that vice (evil) pays to virtue (righteousness)… ouch. So true. Hypocrisy versus life You call me master and obey me not YOu call me light and see me not you call me the way and walk not You call me life and desire me not you call me wise and follow me not you call me fair and love me not you call me rich and ask me not you call me eternal and seek me not you call me gracious and trust me not you call me mighty and honor me not you call me just and fear me not If I condemn you, blame me not. For I am the consequence of hypocrisy The problem isn't your hypocrisy… and the problem isn't my hypocrisy… the problem is that neither of us can see our own hypocrisy. As John Milton wrote in paradise lost (book 3) For neither man nor angel can discern Hypocrisy, it is the only evil that walks invisible except to God alone. A book came out years ago by Dan Kimball, I did not read it, but the title was they love Jesus, they just don't like the church. And I get it, and again I have not read it… I have heard Dan speak and he seems legit… but my thoughts on this are simple… The world will hate us and love us at the same time for different reasons. I stand for God and the world hates my views. I love like God - i.e. give sacrificially to those in need, love the unlovable, pray and heal the outcast, seek out the sinner and love them even while they reject me… I love like God and they applaud me. What I am talking about is, we are imperfect beings trying to serve and uphold a perfect love, a perfect message and a perfect example. Sounds somewhat unattainable… we are in a sense set up to be hypocritical with that goal in mind… yet that is the goal. what should we do? Here is the cure to hypocrisy… ready… its not hard. Honesty + Openness + forgiveness If I am honest with myself and realize I am a hypocrite in many ways - THAT I DONT EVEN SEE, If I am open with others and without reservation let them know I blow it, I blew it, I will blow it again… and then simply ask then to forgive me and ask God to forgive me… you can't really be called a hypocrite if you follow that full equation. Oh sure you can still be hypocritical, we all are, but no one will label you an outright hypocrite - at least not any sane person. From straight talk counseling: At the root of hypocrisy is fear and low self-esteem. We use hypocrisy to avoid looking at our shortcomings and figure out our part in it. It typically stems from a sincere belief that we should not be held to the same standards as others because we have better intentions. Our belief is juster, nobler, and sincerer. I believe this to be accurate… but what does scripture say in return? Rom. 3:20Therefore no one will be justified in His sight by works of the law. For the law merely brings awareness of sin. i.e. hypocrisy 23. For we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God We are all hypocrites. Next time your around people you are trying to win to Christ… be honest with them in a moment of vulnerability and tell them you are trying to represent Christ as best you can, and if they see any hypocrisy you would love for them to kindly point it out to you… You may be surprised, when we are honest about our hypocrisy, it allows others to see theirs… and that is when they are open to the gospel.
How Does God Feel About Hypocrites? Why Our Relationship With Him is Key: Reflections from Psalm 50 Sometimes it can be easy to settle into a place of routine, even in our spiritual lives. The problems come when we allow those routines to take the place of relationship. Today we look at Psalm 50 and the dangers that can come when we stop pursuing a relationship with God. I pray this episode blesses you. Today's Key Verse: The Might One, God, the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets. Psalm 50:1 Spiral Bible: https://bit.ly/3VrGywQ Hey friends, welcome to the Hearing Jesus Podcast. Do you sometimes doubt if you are truly hearing God's voice or if it's really your own? Do you wonder how you can know the difference? Do you struggle to feel confident in your relationship with God and what He says in his word? Do you sometimes feel stagnant or like you hit a wall in your spiritual life? Hey, I'm your host, Rachael Groll: missionary, author, pastor, and life coach. And I have been there. I, too, was doubting God's voice in my own life. I, too, felt insecure about the things I thought God might be calling me to do. I wanted to make a difference in the world and be obedient to what God was calling me to do, but I wasn't quite sure how to figure out what exactly that was. I kept telling myself that I was wasting time trying to figure it out or waiting for Him to show me. Or that I wasn't qualified to do the things I thought He might be telling me to do. The answer for me was found in the pages of the Bible, as I learned how to understand what it was actually saying. If you are ready to grow in your faith and to step confidently into the calling God has for you, then join me as we dig deep into God's word so you can learn to live out your faith in your everyday life. Friend, you are loved, you are cherished, and you are His. The Hearing Jesus Podcast will encourage and equip you to step into the calling God has for your life, living out your faith in the everyday. Together we will break down walls that keep us from growing spiritually. We will dig deep into our Bibles to understand and connect the Scriptures to our lives. We will boldly obey what God calls us to do, walking through doors that only He can open. Join me for your daily dose of faith, honesty, and prayer. American Elections are a sight to behold, regardless of whether it's local or national. People can support whoever they want and whatever promises their candidates to make during elections. However, why is there still no change? One word, Hypocrisy. With the approval rate for liberal ideals like interracial relationships and gay marriages on the rise, elected lawmakers who claim to support such ideas remain reluctant to pass laws that evoke the necessary changes. In this video, we'll talk about the hypocrisy of political promises, and how politicians continue to be completely out of touch with reality.
