Happy new month! We've a bumper edition of the show for you this week, with a first hand view from the Summer Bash, as well as Salford's amazing performance against St. Helens. Some interesting results around the various divisions and forms of the sport, but how much were we able to see? Plus, guests galore, as we drag London Roosters and England's Lewis King as well as Martin Coyd out of the Headingley hospitality to talk about the state of the Wheelchair game, and how the sport could capitalise on the excitement provided by the Lionesses (of which we are fully on the bandwagon.) Then, we talk to Richard de la Riviere as he's got a new book out (which you can buy at Philip Howard Books in Leeds, or here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204037026976?hash=item2f818df4a0:g:Th0AAOSwCpxiz9Sr ) with plenty of great stories to tell in Rugby League: On This Day. That, as well as the state of the game, Maurice Lindsay, his next book project, and a lot more. AND, as a bonus for you podders, reaction from the Bash games involving Barrow's women and men with Jodie Litherland, Amanda Wilkinson and Paul Crarey, plus Whitehaven's Jonty Gorely.
In this chat with Amanda, I was surprised to learn she had gone through Calgary firefighter training but was too young to follow through so she trained with the Calgary Police Academy, passed before she decided that too was not for her. She talks about the evolution and start of her drawing passion, How her values or definition of what success is for did a complete flip. She is a new mom so we explore how that has changed her life and her viewpoint. Her modelling, which I started off with an early photo session of her. How she made her obsessive drive work for her. Canadian country singer-songwriter Lisa Brokop is celebrating nearly 30 years in the music business as she brings her ‘Legendary Ladies of Country’ show to Ontario this spring. Fresh from the success of "The Patsy Cline Project”, the new performance will also feature songs from some of the other great female country singers, including Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Tanya Tucker and Emmylou Harris. The performance will be accompanied by stories about the songs and the impact that these first ladies of country have had on Lisa's own career. Lisa Brokop will also be adding some of her own songs into the mix. Canadian country artists Patricia Conroy and Amanda Wilkinson will be joining Lisa on stage for some of the performances. We caught up with Lisa Brokop in Nashville to chat about the new show. For more information about the music of Lisa Brokop and tour dates, visit http://lisabrokop.com. This podcast is a bit different as I interview an incredible woman who isn't currently featured in my book. I did so because her story is so incredibly powerful, uplifting, and I knew it would change the hearts of thousands. Seven years ago the unthinkable happened to Amanda's family- her two-year-old boy never woke up from his sleep. This tragedy led her to go on a journey of grief, deep reflection, and understanding the mental health issues that accompanied it. She is now a voice of hope for those that experience anxiety, depression, grief, and loss. She is a beacon of light in a sometimes dreary world. Get your tissues out for this one- you will need them.

Amanda Wilkinson was one third of the grammy nominated family band "the Wilkinsons". Amanda and "the Wilkinsons" hit stardom with their single "26 Cents", the song that allowed them the privilege of meeting The Eagles and other hero's of the nature. Amanda was only 16 when she became a house hold name in the country community but that hasn't changed her sense of home and the strength of family. After a bunch of singles and albums with "the Wilkinsons", Amanda went solo and had equally as much success with juno nominations and records sold world-wide. After a brief period living in Nashville, Amanda and her brother Tyler along with their dad Steve started writing again. Five years of cheap beer and heart ache gave way to Amanda and Tyler's debut album as "The Small Town Pistols". There first and second album are fan favourites and they will be on tour this summer playing several shows in Canada with yours truly pushing the faders and worrying about the bottom line. In the podcast we talk about what it's like to grow up in the music industry with all it's quirks and egos. We also talk about what it's like to balance a personal and professional life. Amanda and Tyler Wilkinson are no strangers to success on the Country charts. First, they scored big as the family trio The Wilkinsons (26 Cents, Fly (The Angel Song), Boy Oh Boy) - along with their dad Steve. These days, Amanda and Tyler have reunited musically as a duo called SMALL TOWN PISTOLS. Their self-titled debut album is up for Country Album of the Year at the Juno awards on March 30th - broadcasting live from Winnipeg. Amanda and Tyler will be presenters that night as well. The album features the hits Colour Blind, Living On The Outside, Blame It On The Radio & Anthem Of A Runaway. Dad Steve - a prolific songwriter - is a writer on three of the album's songs including "Living On The Outside." Small Town Pistols are now releasing Colour Blind in the United States. The song was written by Amanda and Tyler along with songwriter and producer Joey Moi (producer for Jake Owen, Florida Georgia Line, Dallas Smith and many more.) “It’s a song about how we truly feel about the world,” explains Tyler. Tune in and get up close & personal with this multi-talented Country duo and their music.
