It's vintage Lorrie Morgan in her 1991 hit: "We Both Walk". This is a song that sounds "off" for all the best reasons. But how does the unsettling tone combine with Loretta Lynn-style attitude to give us a nuanced perspective on a classic country trope? And what does Tammy Wynette have to do with it?

fWotD Episode 3280: This Side of the Moon Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Tuesday, 28 April 2026, is This Side of the Moon. This Side of the Moon is the third studio album by American singer Elizabeth Cook, released on May 17, 2005, by Hog Country Production. Cook based the album on her experience with Warner Bros. Records, which had released her second studio album, Hey Y'all, in 2002. Initially signed to AOL-Time Warner, she was transferred to Warner Bros. and experienced problems with the label, including an album delay. Hey Y'all was commercially unsuccessful and was not heavily promoted; its songs were not played on country radio. Cook voluntarily left Warner Bros. in 2003, and used her disappointment working in Nashville's Music Row as inspiration for her follow-up album.A country album, This Side of the Moon features lyrics about love and heartbreak. Before being packaged as an album, the songs were recorded independently, with the assistance of five producers in eight Tennessee recording studios. Most of the songs were written by Cook and songwriter Hardie McGehee, both of whom worked for music publisher Sis 'N Bro Music. Critics likened Cook's vocals to those of country artists such as Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton. This Side of the Moon had a limited release in August 2004 before becoming more widely available the following year. Cook promoted it with live performances at the Grand Ole Opry and international music festivals. The album received little airplay, and after its release, Cook worked as a waitress to secure steady pay. Critical response at the time was generally positive and, in retrospective articles, reviewers felt This Side of the Moon helped enhance Cook's musical career. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:17 UTC on Tuesday, 28 April 2026.For the full current version of the article, see This Side of the Moon on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm generative Matthew.

Episode 356: Brit Taylor came to town from eastern Kentucky chasing the US Route 23 dream that brought us Loretta Lynn and Patty Loveless - and wound up working with Cowboy Jack Clement and Sturgill Simpson. Adam Chaffins grew up one or two counties over and ensconced himself, as a bass player and singer, in the East Nashville bluegrass scene. Eventually, a friend was smart enough to introduce them, and they became a super-talented Americana couple. But not a duo. Taylor has four albums out, including two produced by her husband. Chaffins dropped a debut LP in 2020 and a soulful EP last year, with Taylor's harmony vocals. Craig visited their homestead near Mt. Juliet to hear their story around their kitchen table.
We caught up with Lee Newton, who called in from “North Caro-lacky,” as she called it! Lee is awoman who was born to sing and love doing it! We talked about her many ventures including a new album coming out soon!! Nashville Recording Artist and Singer/Songwriter Lee Newton comes from humble beginnings in a small town in Western North Carolina. Growing up, she experienced her share of hard times, but music was always a source of hope. At just five years old, Lee began singing in church alongside her mother. Her love for music blossomed when her father, a local cab driver, filled their home with the sounds of Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, and Patsy Cline. At seven, he placed a guitar in her hands, teaching her to play as they sang together while he drove his taxi on calls. Lee is in the studio recording her fifth studio album, alongside producer Bill Mcdermott. The first single, “The Long Goodbye,” was released September 13, 2025. The full album has an anticipated release in 2026, continuing Lee's trademark blend of raw emotion, soulful delivery, and timelessstorytelling. With a voice as authentic as her story—and a heart devoted to faith, family, and community—Lee Newton continues to carve her place in country music, bringing her daddy's dream of the Grand Ole Opry closer with every song. May we resolve to live not by lies, political correctness, wokeness, or ‘repressive tolerance‘ by any name. May we live by the Truth alone, and may God have mercy on us. Political correctness is communist propaganda writ small. In my study of communist societies, I came to the conclusion that the purpose of communist propaganda was not to persuade or convince, nor to inform, but to humiliate; and therefore, the less it corresponded to reality the better. When people are forced to remain silent when they are being told the most obvious lies, or even worse when they are forced to repeat the lies themselves, they lose once and for all their sense of probity. To assent to obvious lies is to co-operate with evil, and in some small way to become evil oneself. One’s standing to resist anything is thus eroded, and even destroyed. A society of emasculated liars is easy to control. I think if you examine political correctness, it has the same effect and is intended to. — Theodore Dalrymple (Anthony Daniels) Frontpage Magazine interview (August 31, 2005) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, [even] in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. — Romans 10:8-13 KJV Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. — John 14:6 KJV Links Videos / Clips [x] = Played Triggered! On this episode of The Bandwich Tapes, I sit down with guitarist and composer Bob Lanzetti, best known as one of the founding members of Snarky Puppy. I've admired Bob's playing for a long time, so getting the chance to talk with him felt especially meaningful. We begin with something many musicians quietly carry with them: the fear of hand issues and how that concern evolves over the course of a career. Bob reflects honestly on how he thinks about it now compared to earlier years. From there, we rewind to the beginning—growing up around his dad's guitar, discovering The Beatles, and the simple invitation that changed everything: “Learn this song and you can sit in with my band.” That moment set Bob firmly on the path toward becoming a guitarist. He traces his journey through early mentors, jazz studies, and eventually to the University of North Texas, where he found a musical community that would change his life—and where Snarky Puppy first came together. We spend time talking about the musical ecosystem around North Texas as well, especially the gospel and R&B scenes that shaped Bob's ear in ways the classroom couldn't. Bob shares how Snarky Puppy actually learns and rehearses music—often through oral tradition, demos, and Logic sessions—and how the band's three-guitar setup works without stepping on each other's sonic space. Along the way, he reflects on something younger musicians often overlook: the importance of restraint, listening, and self-balancing within a band. One of my favorite parts of the conversation centers on Bob's Nosferatu project, where he composed and performed an original score for the classic silent film during the COVID years. That project opened the door to exploring 20th-century classical textures, string writing, layered guitars, and production techniques. We wrap up by talking about the wide range of influences that shape Bob's music—from Charlie Christian and Jim Hall to Sonic Youth and Derek Bailey—and what's ahead in 2026, including GroundUP Festival, touring with Snarky Puppy alongside the Metropole Orchestra, his trio work, and the growing role of producing in his creative life.Key TakeawaysMusicians confront physical concerns over time — long careers require resilience and perspective.Early invitations can shape a life path — a simple opportunity to sit in with a band set Bob on the guitar journey.Community matters — the University of North Texas and the surrounding Dallas scene were foundational for Snarky Puppy.Listening and restraint define great band playing — especially in complex ensemble settings like a three-guitar lineup.Musical learning often happens by ear — oral tradition and demos play a huge role in how bands develop material.Creative side projects expand the palette — Bob's Nosferatu score opened the door to new textures and production ideas.Producing can become another creative outlet — shaping the sound of recordings scratches the same itch as performing.Music from the EpisodeB - Bob LanzettiAnonymous - Bob LanzettiThe Seven Deadly Sins (from Nosferatu) - Bob LanzettiJenny is a Donkey - Bob LanzettiAbout the PodcastThe Bandwich Tapes is a podcast hosted by Brad Williams, featuring conversations with musicians, composers, producers, and creative thinkers about their musical journeys. Shawn Camp is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from Arkansas who now makes his home in Nashville. He has written songs for Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and many more. Written with Loretta Lynn. Played in Alan Jackson, Jerry Reed, and Trisha Yearwood's bands. He and Guy Clark unleashed the Sis Draper universe of songs on the world. My Gen X heart would be remiss if I didn't mention that he wrote "Two Pina Coladas," which Garth Brooks took to number one on the country charts, and "How Long Gone," which enjoyed the same fate in the hands of Brooks and Dunn. Y'all, what an incredible honor to bring you, my conversation with Shawn Camp.
Motocross filmmaker and Vurb Moto co-founder Wes Williams joins the Gypsy Tales Podcast for a nearly 3-hour conversation about building some of the most iconic videos the sport has ever seen. When Roots Music Rambler did our 2025 year-in-review episode, Frank told us her favorite music festival last year was the Crossroads Acoustic Fest in Seymour, Ind. She's going again this year (and has convinced Falls to come as well). It takes place April 24-25 and features wonderful singer-songwriters and Americana acts like John R. Miller, Jason Eady, The Tillers, Thunder and Rain and more. Friends of the show Magnolia Boulevard (see Maggie Noelle on Episode 49) and Emily Jamerson (Episode 64). Crossroads started as a small house concert series after Shawn Busby and his brother attended the 30a Songwriter's Festival in Florida several years ago. They came home to Seymour and started hosting house concerts. The event has grown into a 400-500 person ticketed event with multiple listening room venues in walkable downtown Seymour. Busby joined us on Roots Music Rambler to talk more about the history of the event, what his hopes are for its growth, this year's lineup and what it takes to put together an event like Crossroads Acoustic Fest. AND … Busby shared a 20% discount code toward the end of the episode which is helpful since the early bird prices have expired, so listen and get a ticket discount! Frank and Falls also tout the show's choice for 2025 Song of the Year as Tyler Childers's “Bitin'List” won the Grammy for Country Song of the Year and share some interesting Pickin' the Grinnin' choices this week: One for a Loretta Lynn and Jack White collaboration. The other is a new cover song from West Virginia-based fiddle phenom Philip Bowen. Get 20% off your ticket to Crossroads Acoustic Fest when you use the code RAMBLER on checkout. Get tickets here. This week, your favorite former puppeteers climb aboard one of the strangest stops in The Muppet Show canon: episode #308 featuring country icon Loretta Lynn, staged not in the familiar Muppet Theater… but on an abandoned train platform.Yes, really. Through a series of very Muppet-y mishaps, the gang finds themselves putting on the show trackside — surrounded by luggage, questionable infrastructure, and the lingering possibility that the 3:15 to nowhere might actually arrive. Loretta, cool as a coal miner's daughter, rolls with it all: singing her hits while frogs scramble, chickens wander, and Gonzo almost certainly violates several railway safety codes. We unpack the episode's delightfully ramshackle setting, how the change of scenery fuels the comedy, and why country music and train platforms feel like a match made in honky-tonk heaven. There's something poetically perfect about Loretta Lynn bringing grounded, heartfelt storytelling to a show that's literally off the rails. It's banjos, baggage carts, and backstage bedlam — proof that no matter the venue, the Muppets will raise the curtain… even if they have to nail it to a railway post first.
In this episode of Echoes Through Eternity, Dr. Jeffrey D. Skinner explores a troubling but often overlooked trend: while Gen Z men are returning to church, young women are quietly leaving. This is not loud rebellion. It is not rejection of Jesus. It is a slow erosion of belonging.Joined by Rev. Dr. Kim McLean, mentored by Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn and others—pastor, songwriter, church planter, and longtime mentor of others—this conversation examines how shame-based formation, unequal leadership structures, purity culture, and unresolved trauma have shaped women's experiences in the church.Drawing on Barna research, lived pastoral stories, and a Wesleyan understanding of holiness as love perfected, this episode asks a deeper question: What happens when formation fails to produce freedom?Key themes include:• The growing gender gap in church attendance• Why women leave without abandoning faith• The impact of shame-based discipleship• Women in ministry and invisible ceilings• Purity culture and spiritual trauma• Why silence feels safer than staying• What faithful formation looks like nowThis episode is not an indictment. It is an invitation—to listen, to repent where needed, and to build churches where women are not merely welcomed, but needed.REFERENCED RESEARCH & THINKERSBarna Group• Gen Z attendance trends and gender gap research• Studies on church disengagement and trust in leadershipSurvey Center on American Life• Faith deconstruction and institutional trust• Gendered religious disengagementBeth Moore• Public departure from the Southern Baptist Convention• Reflections on women, authority, and ScriptureMildred Bangs Wynkoop• A Theology of Love• Holiness as relational restoration, not behavioral perfectionScriptural anchors used or referenced:• Galatians 3:28• John 4 (Woman at the Well)• Resurrection witness of Mary Magdalene• Ephesians 5 (mutual submission, not hierarchy)Takeaways:Gen Z women are experiencing a quiet exodus from church, indicating a deeper relational breakdown. This exodus is characterized by a lack of belonging rather than outright rejection of faith. The data reveals a significant gap in church attendance between young men and women.Church leadership must address the relational safety and equal treatment of women in ministry. Many young women feel unseen and confined to narrow roles within church communities. The shift observed among young women invites churches to reflect on their practices and priorities. This podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Podcorn - https://podcorn.com/privacyOP3 - https://op3.dev/privacy

The Light Gate Welcomes GUEST: Joyce Aldrich, singer-songwriter, writer, podcaster, experiencer. Date: January 5, 2026 Time: 5-7 pm pacific / 8-10 pm eastern Episode 142 Discussion: UFO & Paranormal experiences of Joyce Aldrich Born in Ottawa on Wednesday, July 27th, 1955, at 4:00 am, to Irene and Lucien Aldrich, Joyce was raised in a family with a strong theatrical background. She lived a gypsy life with her parents, attending 10 schools, and living in 17 residences in two provinces (Ontario and Quebec) and three cities, Hull, Ottawa, and Toronto, by the age of 17. Her mother was an actress, singer, and producer. Her father was a commission salesman. They came to Toronto to make her mother's fortune. She eventually landed a 27-year gig (unheard of, nowadays) as 'Rockin' Irene' at Ye Olde Brunswick House, on Bloor...now a Rexall (blech!), but there's a brass plaque on that brick wall with her contribution on it, along with Etta James, Peter Appleyard, Gordon Lightfoot, Loretta Lynn, and others who played there. Her mother never wanted her to sing, but genes are genes, and being exposed to theatre and music her entire life, it was part of Joyce's DNA. There have been some setbacks in her career, a lot of starts and stops, along the way. It's made her quirky, which is okey dokey, when you're an artist. She also paints, as well as doing the music thing. It's all part of the package, isn't it? Her stuff is on YouTube, and, if you like it, you can purchase it on iTunes. She's had a litetime of amazing UFO/El and paranormal encounters and many other incredible adventures. She is also the host of the Joyce Aldrich Show on CHHA 1610 AM, in Toronto, Sundays, from 7 - 9 pm, and many other platforms. Elisa grew up in a small town in Illinois. She loved music from an early age - her earliest memory is gathering her stuffed animals and cuddling in her dad's guitar case while he practiced gospel tunes for Sunday mornings. She was enraptured by her grandmother's stories of Nashville and the Ryman in the 50's and 60's, her father's love of classic rock from the 70's, and her mother's lullabies. Rock n roll and vintage country run in her blood. Her songs elicit feelings of nostalgia, pride, wanderlust, heartbreak, and good ol' fashioned boot-stompin' mischief. She recently completed recording her debut EP in Nashville (while wearing a piece of her grandmother's jewelry every day she was in the studio) and her sound has been likened as Loretta Lynn meets Led Zeppelin. #elisasmith #music #podcast #singer #songwriter #garthbrooks

We're celebrating our 10th anniversary all year by digging in the vaults to re-present classic episodes with fresh commentary. Today, we're revisiting our 2021 conversation with the late Todd Snider. ABOUT TODD SNIDERCelebrated singer-songwriter Todd Snider has continued the troubadour legacy of mentors like John Prine, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Ramblin' Jack Elliott, while putting his uniquely clever, wry, sly, and often irreverent spin on folk, rock, country, and Americana. Launching his career on Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Records, Snider has spent more than two decades touring relentlessly, both on his own and with legendary artists such as Emmylou Harris. Along the way he's made a splash with fan favorite songs such as “Talking Seattle Grunge Rock Blues,” “Alright Guy,” “Can't Complain,” “Beer Run,” “Statistician's Blues,” and “Play a Train Song.” He has released well over a dozen albums, including The Devil You Know and Agnostic Hymns and Stoner Fables, both of which were named to Rolling Stone's list of the Top 50 Albums of the Year. He also formed the group Hardworking Americans, and published a memoir called I Never Met a Story I Didn't Like: Mostly True Tall Tales. His songs have been covered by Garth Brooks, Gary Allan, Mark Chesnutt, Tom Jones, Jerry Jeff Walker, Billy Joe Shaver, Elizabeth Cook, Warren Haynes, Loretta Lynn, and Elvis Costello. When we first spoke to him he'd recently released his experimental funk-influenced album called First Agnostic Church of Hope and Wonder. Snider died from complications with pneumonia on November 14, 2025. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. In Part 2 of our Weatherford, Texas conversation, six-time IRA/IPRA world champion Glen Bird dives deeper into the wild, gritty, laugh-till-you-cry heart of rodeo life.Glen shares priceless stories of the early Longhorn Rodeo days with Loretta Lynn, Mooney Lynn, and Bruce Lehrke, but two characters absolutely steal the show: the legendary Lecile Harris and George “Nocona George” Taylor. Glen paints the picture of Lecile as the funniest man who ever stepped in an arena—quick-witted, fearless, and capable of wearing a bull plumb out. And he remembers Lecile and Nocona George rolling a barrel into a Loretta Lynn rodeo and bringing the house down without even saying a word. Just pure arena magic.Glen also revisits the miles he hauled with Ronnie Williams, Hewlin, Bernis Johnson and his brother, Arnold—225+ rodeos a year—sleeping in cars, napping in movie theaters, and entering anything with horns. He opens up about the 1976 Ardmore tragedy that took his younger brother Arnold, the concussion streak where he won four rodeos he doesn't remember entering, and the challenge of serving as Bull Riding Director during the first IFR in Tulsa. We close with ranch life, Hall of Fame honors, his take on today's bull riders, and Glen's wish for anyone sliding down on the rope: “I hope everybody keeps making eight.”#BeyondTheChutes #RodeoHistory #GlenBird #LecileHarris #NoconaGeorge #GeorgeTaylor #BullRiding #IPRA #IRA #LonghornRodeo #LorettaLynnRodeo #WesternHeritage #BullRidingHallOfFame #MakeEight #BeyondTheChutesPodcast #inourroots

Meet the country star who is singing the anthem for single girls everywhere! Today we're getting obsessed with rising country star Maddye Trew — a Memphis-born singer-songwriter whose voice is as bold as her spirit. From her roots in Memphis to her journey to Nashville, Maddye brings heart, humor and honesty to her music. Her breakout banger – “Single of the Year” – is not just a song. It's an anthem for single women everywhere: raising a glass, owning independence, and celebrating life with a beer in hand instead of wallowing over a broken heart. But Maddye's road was not all smooth. She once stood face-to-face with superstar diva Mariah Carey during an American Idol audition — a moment that could have shattered any young artist's dream. Instead, she used that rejection as rocket fuel. In this episode we talk about: How to reclaim your narrative and transform rejection into resilience. The story behind “Single of the Year” – how it captures a generation of women navigating singleness and waiting. Why being 30, single and unapologetically chasing a music dream is powerful (and how genomics of control play in). Maddye's musical influences – including Carrie Underwood, Loretta Lynn and the traditional country lineage she honors. The importance of mentorship, giving back, and being the person you were once waiting to meet. What's next: her new EP Here Goes Nothing (coming 2026) and how you can follow her journey. Key Takeaways: You don't have to be defined by your relationship status. You can raise your glass, tie one on, and toast your independence. What often looks like “falling behind” — friends getting married, society ticking boxes — can actually be your runway. In music, as in life, the mindset shift from “talent-show contestant” to professional artist changes everything. Mentorship and paying it forward matters. We're celebrating our 10th anniversary all year by digging in the vaults to re-present classic episodes with fresh commentary. Today, we're revisiting our 2017 conversation with Vince Gill. ABOUT VINCE GILLMulti-instrumentalist, singer, and songwriter Vince Gill launched his solo career in the mid-1980s, hitting the Top 10 on Billboard's country singles chart a remarkable 25 times. All but one of those hits was written or co-written by Gill, and a dozen of his compositions have been nominated for either CMA Song of the Year, ACM Song of the Year, or the Best Country Song Grammy. These include “When I Call Your Name,” “Look At Us,” “Pocket Full of Gold,” “When Love Finds You,” “High Lonesome Sound,” “If You Have Forever in Mind,” “Feels Like Love,” and “Threaten Me With Heaven.” “Go Rest High on That Mountain” won both the CMA Song of the Year and the Best Country Song Grammy, while “I Still Believe in You” won the Best Country Song Grammy, as well as both the CMA and the ACM's Song of the Year awards. Though he's won four in total, Vince is the only songwriter to ever win three consecutive Song of the Year awards from the CMA. He has won more Grammy awards, with over 20 trophies, than any male country performer in history. These include two Best Country Song wins, as well as a 2017 win for Best American Roots Song for “Kid Sister,” which was recorded by Gill's band, The Time Jumpers. He has won eight ACM awards and 18 CMA awards, including Vocalist of the Year five years in a row and Entertainer of the Year two years in a row. Other highlights from his long list of hit singles include the #1 hits “Don't Let Our Love Start Slippin' Away,” “One More Last Chance,” and “Tryin' to Get Over You.” In addition to writing his own material, Vince's songs have been recorded by Loretta Lynn, Bob Seger, John Denver, Mary Chapin Carpenter, John Prine, Willie Nelson, Michael McDonald, LeAnn Rimes, and Alabama, who topped the country charts with his “Here We Are.” Vince was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005, and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007. In 2014, he was named a BMI Icon, one of only twelve country writers ever honored with the prestigious award.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. sets out to learn more about the world of motorcycle racing as he sits down with championship rider Aaron Plessinger. He recounts his worst injuries, biggest struggles and greatest accomplishments in the Dirty Mo Media Studio. Regarded as a fan favorite on the AMA Supercross and Motocross circuits, Aaron grew up around the sport thanks to his father Scott, who was a champion off-road motorcyclist himself. Aaron explains that he followed in his father's footsteps into the off-road world in the Grand National Cross Country Series, but ended up giving motocross a serious try and found a knack for it. He would get noticed during an event at Loretta Lynn's Ranch and sign a deal with a factory Yamaha team, Star Racing.Dale and Aaron discuss the different forms of motorcycle racing and how prevalent injuries are in the sport. Aaron explains that racers rarely complete the entire season due to the likelihood of getting hurt, and he shares stories of some of the attrition he's faced over the years. The guys also chat about the training motocross racers go through and how bike setup and crew chiefs make a difference in the sport. Dale asks Aaron about the difference between good and great riders, to which he explains that confidence and mental toughness plays a major role in racing success.
