It's a day of documentaries on BEHIND THE LENS as we take a look at two very different subjects thanks to our guests ANDREW NOVICK who talks about JONBENET'S TRICYCLE while MARIA PEEK and STEPHEN PEEK talk about SEXTORTION: THE HIDDEN PANDEMIC. First up, take a listen to director/editor MARIA PEEK and producer/cinematographer STEPHEN PEEK who join us fresh off their world premiere at Santa Barbara International Film Festival to talk about SEXTORTION: THE HIDDEN PANDEMIC. A compelling and disturbing investigation into the world of online grooming and sextortion–a present-day reality for one in seven children online. An interesting conversation discussing how Maria and Stephen became involved in this documentary, the challenges of research, the opening up of files and cooperation of DHS and other agencies, interviews with investigators and prosecutors explaining and showing the investigative process, creating a throughline, editing, the courage of one of the victims to now speak out, the shared shock of discovering that one of the featured perpetrators in the film was a Top Gun Navy pilot, and so much more. Then, writer/director and avid collector ANDREW NOVICK joins us to talk about his documentary feature debut with JONBENET'S TRICYCLE. Taking us on a ride that starts with Andrew's compulsive collecting, things turn into an interesting layman's examination of the JonBenet Ramsey murder sparked by JonBenet's tricycle which Andrew just happened to gain possession of. Using the tricycle as a means to unpack the history of the JonBenet Ramsey still unsolved murder, as a collector of "pop culture", Andrew is able to provide a very unique spin to this unending story and do it through this documentary. Listen as Andrew talks about developing the story, the filming process, his own learning curve as a first-time filmmaker, finding the unique angle of psychometry as a means to "connect" with the tricycle, not to mention paranormal investigative debunking. But what he also touches on in the documentary and in this interview is the effect of the media on the shaping of public perception and the cultural zeitgeist. Andrew is a pure delight and his enthusiasm and passion for the creative arts are not only welcoming but infectious. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com
Andrew Novick has a colorful past, having punk bands, art exhibits, a campaign to save Casa Bonita - but along the way he also happened to become the owner of a small pink tricycle that belonged to JonBenet Ramsey, the little girl famous for being strangled to death on Christmas in Boulder Colorado. The DGQC watched the film, and then spent over an hour talking through the implications of it, the scenes, people, background, media, and even just bullshitting as old people do about the 'good old days' as things within denver had changed. I hope you enjoy
When I interviewed Andrew Novick a little more than 4 years ago, I described him this way: Andrew Novick is the director of JonBenet's Tricycle, a documentary premiering at Denver Film Festival 40. Intrigued? I certainly was. Here's the synopsis: “Andrew Novick – a Mile-High legend as the man who collects almost everything – forges all sorts of...
City Cast Denver will return with new episodes on January 3. In the meantime, we're looking back at some of our favorite moments of the year. First up, probably the story of the year in Denver, it's the Casa Bonita saga. Join Host Bree Davies and Producer Paul Karolyi to look back at all the ups and downs, starting today with our first interview on the topic from back in April just after Casa Bonita's owners filed for bankruptcy. It was a dark time for the pink palace, to be sure. Here's how we described this episode when it initially aired on April 15: Get Eric Cartman on the phone, Casa Bonita needs help. More than a year into the pandemic, the iconic Mexican restaurant slash immersive entertainment experience filed for bankruptcy earlier this week. There have been reports of community efforts to raise money to save the place, but until now it's been unclear exactly how that might work. Andrew Novick, who's visited Casa Bonita 300 times, and entrepreneur Danny Newman, who helped save My Brother's Bar, have been working behind the scenes, and they're on the show today to explain their strategy and how you can help. SLAYER COVERS PUNK SONGS! Podcaster, director, artist, and musician, Andrew Novick, leads us through one of stranger moments in metal history. Is this album too Slayer-y or not Slayer-y enough? How does it compare to "Garage Days Re-Revisited"? Does it really count as a cover if you’re doing your own song? Who chose these bands? Why didn’t we get any Deep Purple or Doors covers? Is this album just for members of the band Verbal Abuse? Is this better or worse than punk bands covering metal songs? Is Richard’s last name Hung? Exactly what attitude of Slayer's are we unable to dispute? Would making this album sound worse somehow make it better? Find out if this album slays on this week’s episode of Detours and Outliers.

In this episode, we talk with Andrew Novick, an electrical engineer for the National Institute of Standards and Technology, about leap years. With 2020 being a leap year, we asked about how it came about, what it is, and what it would happen if we didn't have one to begin with.
We find out why we have a Leap Day with Andrew Novick from the National Institute of Standards & Technology.
On this week’s show we find out why we have a Leap Day with Andrew Novick from the National Institute of Standards & Technology. DeAnn O’Donovan talks to us about renting and buying a house. Andrew Novick - a Mile-High legend as the man who collects almost everything - forges all sorts of emotional connections to the objects he acquires: either memories, curiosity or interest in the darker side of humanity. He was living in Boulder 20 years ago when JonBenet Ramsey's tricycle fell into his hands after her notorious murder took place. Recently compelled to tackle the unsolved mystery in his own way, Novick took the tricycle on a journey into the realm of psychic phenomena - or did it take him? This quirky autobiographical documentary is also an investigation of the human urge to possess what we value and the impact that pop culture and the media have on our experience of tragedy.
