On November 9, Pete's University Park Cafe served up its last heaping plates of chicken fried steak and souvlaki and eggs, marking the end for yet another beloved diner. With its closure, Denver not only lost an affordable eatery, but a gathering place and community space that served the Mile High for 30 years. So, what is Denver without its diners? Last year host Bree Davies sat down with her friend, poet and educator Suzi Q. Smith, to talk about these losses and discuss the deep feelings Suzi explores in her Denverse Magazine essay “Toast World: Where Have All the Diners Gone?” Oh, and be sure to grab a ticket to our first-ever The Denver-est Denver Awards, presented by our friends at Denver Health! Guest: Dale Emme Executive Director and Co-Founder The Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program was founded 31 years ago after the loss of the founders’ youngest son, Mike, to suicide. From this tragedy came the phrase “It’s okay to ask for help,” printed on cards with crisis resources. One such card reached Wyoming, where a young woman in distress handed it to a counselor and received immediate support. The program stresses that in moments of crisis, people need simple, direct guidance. Research highlights three key steps: stay with the person, listen with compassion, and seek professional help right away. This straightforward approach continues to make it easier for individuals to reach out when they need it most. yellowribbon.org

Norm Hitzges breaks down the Cowboys' embarrassing loss to the Denver Broncos — a game so one-sided it has him wondering if Dallas will ever beat Denver again. With sharp insight and signature wit, Norm dissects how the Cowboys collapsed on both sides of the ball, from a defense that forgot how to tackle to a rookie corner who got picked apart all afternoon. He dives into Dak Prescott's rough outing, the defense's seven explosive plays allowed, and a mysterious injury story surrounding Trayvon Diggs that just doesn't add up. It's classic Norm — honest, funny, and brutally insightful about the state of America's Team.
DallasCowboys.com Insider Mickey Spagnola joins the show!
0:00 - HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS!? Denver destroyed Dallas yesterday at Mile High and finally put on the offensive clinic we've been waiting for. Was this game more about Denver's offense going off, or Dallas' defensive issues?16:06 - After 8 games, how do Broncos fans feel about Riley Moss? He drew a lot of criticism early in the season. Do those feeling still linger? Or are people a fan of his now? After that, CU's game vs Utah was like a car crash. It was so awful and terrible, and yet we couldn't look away. How do you make sense of that horrible of a performance coming OFF A BYE WEEK!?34:54 - The Avs went 0/2 on their east coast road trip, and lost back-to-back games in OT. So at least they get 2 points out of it. That's nice. But what's going on with the Avs? Why can't they win games in regulation? On the flipside, the Nuggets had a DOMINANT performance against the Suns. Phoenix isn't good, but still, Denver took care of business and looked GOOD doin it.
After a dominant 4th quarter that propelled the Broncos to victory last week, there was a good chance Denver could come out flat against the Dallas Cowboys at Mile High. That did not happen. There was so much to love from this game. How about Dobbins going over 100-yards for the second time this season? How about two touchdowns from RJ Harvey? What about that Pat Bryant TD? ...and that was just the offense. Join Tim, Laurie, and Jess and they dive into just how great the win over the Cowboys was. Sunday was a good day. Norm laces up his hiking boots for one of the Cowboys' toughest climbs yet — a trip to Denver, where the air is thin and the pass rush is thick. In this episode of Just Wondering, Norm breaks down the brutal matchup between Dallas and the Broncos, spotlighting a defense that leads the league in sacks and a young quarterback, Bo Nix, who's learning how to win ugly. With stats, storytelling, and a dash of nostalgia, Norm revisits the Cowboys' last win in Denver — thirty-three years ago — complete with Jimmy Johnson's halftime rage and a Charles Haley scolding for the ages. This one's a mix of history, humor, and a hard look at what it'll take for Dallas to exorcise three decades of Mile High misery. Wellington Webb served as Denver's mayor from 1991 to 2003. In those 12 years, he oversaw the expansion of the Denver Art Museum, the construction of DIA and Empower Field at Mile High, and many more city-defining projects. After a long political career, he started his own PR and economic development consulting firm — and was one of the biggest voices in the successful opposition to proposed housing development on the Park Hill Golf Course. Today, the former city leader joins producer Paul Karolyi to talk about that legacy and share what he thinks of the current administration's work and the nearly $1 billion bond package voters will be deciding on in November. After we recorded this interview, BusinessDen reported that Mayor Johnston has finally closed the deal for the city to take ownership of the Park Hill Golf Course land. https://www.instagram.com/p/DOwDYj8gNXV/?hl=en For even more news from around the city, subscribe to our morning newsletter Hey Denver at denver.citycast.fm.
