PinPoint Analytics is revolutionizing the public works construction industry with AI-powered bid intelligence. With over $4 million in funding, PinPoint is building what co-founder Mark Zurada describes as "the Zillow for public works." In this episode of Category Visionaries, I sat down with Mark to learn how PinPoint is bringing data-driven decision making to an industry where the "lowest price bid wins" mentality has traditionally forced contractors into a risky race to the bottom. Topics Discussed: The unique challenges of public works construction bidding, where lowest price wins but pricing information is non-standardized How PinPoint collects and digitizes data from every public works project in the country over the past five years The company's journey from 2.5 years of intense R&D to launching their first generally available product PinPoint's ingenious marketing strategy that leverages real-time bid data to target prospects at exactly the right moment The critical importance of finding specialized investors who understand the niche market Why few tech founders have ventured into the construction space, and how PinPoint's technical expertise gives them an edge GTM Lessons For B2B Founders: Target the stakeholders with the highest pain point: PinPoint serves three customer segments (municipalities, engineering firms, and general contractors) but focuses primarily on GCs because they have the most financial risk and greatest need for the solution. As Mark explained, "GCs are our primary target, and they're basically the most at risk. They need this the most." When creating a new category, seek specialized investors: For companies building in niche markets, corporate venture capital from established industry players can be invaluable. Mark shared, "We really had to find a specialized VC... we ultimately landed a CVC, basically a huge construction conglomerate that felt the pain point. They're like, 'Oh my God, you guys can solve this. We've been trying to solve it forever.'" Build proprietary data moats: What attracts investors to PinPoint isn't just AI but their unique data assets. "VCs are really gravitating towards us because of the data moat that we have and the IP moat... We are an AI company solving a real-world problem with a great moat around us." Use your data to drive hyper-targeted sales outreach: PinPoint transforms the bid summaries they collect into actionable sales intelligence. "We know exactly who's bidding almost in real time... We're very focused on hitting our customers at the right time with the right message, with rich analysis on what they did, opening the doors to how our product could have helped them." Approach complex technical challenges with the right expertise: Sometimes the reason a market remains underserved is that the technical barriers are substantial. "We're really like tech guys building construction software... We know how to do data and analytics and AI extremely well... We just knew how to approach it and surmount some of those early technical problems that would have been super hard if you were coming at it from the other side." // Sponsors: Front Lines — We help B2B tech companies launch, manage, and grow podcasts that drive demand, awareness, and thought leadership. www.FrontLines.io The Global Talent Co. — We help tech startups find, vet, hire, pay, and retain amazing marketing talent that costs 50-70% less than the US & Europe. www.

In this compelling episode, I reflect on what six remarkable CEOs taught me about real leadership — beyond the job titles and polished bios. From leading Myer, Suncorp, Carman's Kitchen and more, these leaders share the truth about delegation, energy management, honest feedback, people over technical skills, and the courage to change direction. Their stories are practical, generous, and refreshingly real. If you've ever questioned what it really takes to lead — especially while juggling the rest of life — this one's for you. ----------------------- Craving inspiration? In this podcast episode, MRS Bulletin's Sophia Chen interviews Bowen Deng, a graduate student in Gerbrand Ceder's group at the University of California, Berkeley, about their work on increasing the accuracy of artificial intelligence/machine learning materials prediction models. The use of computer simulations to predict the interaction between atoms in a given molecule is being replaced by machine learning. Researchers describe the atoms' collective interactions as a quantity of energy, where higher energies correspond to stronger forces holding the molecule together. Now, Deng's research group studied three machine learning models and found that they tend to predict lower energies than what is accurate by about 20 percent. The researchers have determined that these underpredictions were caused by biased training data and they found a way to remedy the situation. This work was published in a recent issue of NPJ Computational Materials.

I Veckans Volley hyllar Erik eldsjälar och Gedda känner sig allmänt go. 7 RULES on Approaching Authoritarian SupportersWhat if your neighbor, friend or family member supports the authoritarian regime?Rule 1Don't look down on them, don't patronize them, even if you know what they're saying has no factual basis or you find it offensive. Don't preach, ask questions. Try to understand them, where they are coming from, what their problems are and why they see solutions to them in the regime. Treat them as people, as equals. Rule 2Don't get emotional, don't get provoked into heated arguments. Fight the other side's emotions with your calm, logical approach. The angrier they get, the calmer you should be. Rule 3Focus on what you have in common. Do you live in the same neighborhood? Do you work in the same company or sector? The smaller the community, the easier it is. Rule 4Use their language, don't treat it as inferior or below you – don't seem patronizing (see rule 1). If they curse, curse with them. If they approach you with humor, don't get angry or uptight about it, reply with humor. As long as you communicate on two different planes, you will never meet.Rule 5Don't block their news sources, don't turn away from their leaders and authority figures. Use them to your advantage, to better prepare for their arguments. Whenever you don't agree with something or detect a lie, voice it calmly, expose it with factual arguments.Rule 6Pinpoint the practical, negative effects of their side's actions, ones that affect them directly. Find examples of how they, their families, children or friends will be personally impacted by their policies, or how it will affect your shared community.Rule 7If all else fails, don't turn away, don't abandon your friends and family, don't shun your neighbors. Remember, an authoritarian wants to divide you to control you. So invite them over to your BBQ, crack open a beer, and who knows, maybe they'll realize you're not so different after all.be strong, fight, endure, and remember you're on the good side of history.EVERY authoritarian, totalitarian and fascist regime in history eventually failed, thanks to the PEOPLE.– With love, your Eastern European friendsRESOURCES: https://verfassungsblog.de/the-authoritarian-regime-survival-guide/DONATE:www.pcrf.netGET AN OCCASIONAL PERSONAL EMAIL FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastOR WATCH ON YOUTUBE: www.youtube.com/juliemerica The opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only. 2024 was one of the least violent years in New Orleans going back DECADES. How did that happen, and how can we keep the momentum going? Jeff Asher, consultant and co-founder of AH Datalytics, joins Ian Hoch to dissect the implications.
Over the past two months the team at Sales Gravy has been working hard on our business plan for next year. Like so many other companies, we build an annual business plan because we need to know where we're going and how to get there. We're not leaving our fate to chance. Our business plan is compass that helps us navigate and stay on track to reach our goals. Randomness is the Enemy of Effectiveness But what about you? Have you ever stopped to think that you need the exact same thing for your upcoming sales year? Without a plan, it's easy to drift and fall into randomness—just waking up every day and hoping something good happens. But here's the deal: Randomness is the enemy of effectiveness. If you don't set a clear direction, you'll never hit the target you're aiming for. You'll be like a boat without a rudder—drifting and, eventually, ending up someplace you never intended to go. Yogi Berra said it best: “If you don't know where you're going, you'll end up someplace else.” Trust me, “someplace else” isn't where you want to be at the end of next year. Adopt a CEO Mindset The difference between average salespeople and top performers often comes down to one key mindset: top performers don't act like employees; they think like entrepreneurs. The moment you start treating your territory as if it's your own business, your mindset changes. You stop feeling like a cog in the wheel and start seeing yourself as the driver, not the passenger. Your company shoulders the big financial risks—providing you with the product, the brand, the support. But you own your market, solve the problems, and build relationships that turn into revenue. You own your time and results. That's the entrepreneurial mindset. Creating Your Personal Buisness Plan Starts With A Vision To create your personal business plan, you start your vision. Where do you want to be a year from now? What do you want to accomplish in your territory or area of responsibility? What income do you want you earn? What awards do you want to win? What does winning look like? Define it. Get crystal clear. Then think about your values. What do you stand for? What kind of impact do you want to make? What kind of relationships do you want to build? How will you show up for your clients, team members, and company every single day? Once you've nailed this down, put your strategy in place. Break your territory into logical quadrants so that you know where you'll be investing time each day. Identify the industry verticals that have the highest potential. Pinpoint your ideal customers. Segment your prospects and customers into High Potential, Medium Potential, and Low Potential. Create a list of your top ten dream accounts, 25-50 conquest accounts, and 100-500 high potential and medium potential targeted accounts. This will help you attack your territory with a targeted vs random approach. Identify your key competitors and do an analysis of each of their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Then do the same for yourself. Define your daily battle rhythm, disciplines, and activities that drive pipeline growth. Get intentional about your priorities and how you manage your calendar. After all, time is your greatest asset and as the CEO of you, your time is money. Once you have clarity on your vision and strategy, get granular. A vision without action is just a fantasy. Break Your Personal Business Plan Into Small Steps to Success Break your plan down into achievable goals. I'm a fan of activity-based metrics because you can control them. This is about setting standards that become non-negotiable habits. The key is to choose metrics that move the needle on revenue and are fully within your contro You can't always control who picks up the phone or who says yes, but you can control how many doors you knock on, how many calls you make,
Episode 250, learn the secret words to growing your sales. We're always looking for new ways to improve our business. Today, I will break down these three words—better, more, and differently—and discuss how you can apply them to your sales strategy. Get a head start on growing your revenue for 2025. Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Three Word Podcast, where I believe in the power of three simple words to transform your sales strategies and sales meetings. I'm your host, Lisa Thal, and today; I will explore three powerful words that can revolutionize your sales approach—better, more, and differently. My mission is to empower sales professionals like you with actionable strategies for growth. So, grab a coffee, put on your walking shoes, and let's get started! Reflect on Your Current Sales Approach The first step we must start with is an honest reflection of your current sales approach. Consider asking yourself: What's working? Identify successful tactics you've created that can be scaled or adapted to other areas. What's not working? Pinpoint areas where you're consistently falling short and need to change. How am I spending my time? Evaluate your daily routines to ensure your actions align with your sales goals. By understanding your strengths and shortfalls, you can focus on refining areas that need improvement and replicate successful strategies. 1: Doing Things Better First up, better. How can we refine what we're already doing? It's about more than overhauling what you're doing; it's often about focusing on our existing processes. It begins by evaluating where you are today. Focus on Customer Relationships: Start by improving your relationship management. Are you truly listening to your customers? Are you engaging with them in a way that makes them feel valued? Master Your Product Knowledge: Deepen your understanding of your product or service. The more you know, the better you can tailor your solutions to meet your customer's needs. Refine Your Follow-Ups: Craft personalized and timely follow-ups that remind your prospects of your value. Sometimes, subtle changes make the most significant difference. Stay connected to your prospects and clients. In most cases, it's a timing issue for you to do business with them. 2: Doing More Next, let's talk about doing more. Doing more in your sales strategy can significantly boost your sales growth. It's about expanding your efforts and not settling for the status quo. Getting in front of new opportunities starts with effective prospecting. To enhance and increase your opportunities, consider the following: Increase Outreach Efforts: Contact more prospects to expand your reach. Consider exploring new markets or demographics that might benefit from your product. Content Marketing: Contribute more to thought leadership through blogs, guest appearances on business podcasts, and social media. Position yourself as an industry expert, and potential clients will come to you. How are you marketing yourself? Training and Development: Invest more time in improving your skills. Attend workshops, seek mentorship, and learn from peers to stay ahead of the curve. Introductions: Ask satisfied clients for introductions. A client introduction can often lead to quicker conversions than cold outreach. Review the connections your clients and friends have on LinkedIn and ask for an introduction. 3: Doing Things Differently Finally, let's consider doing things differently. Sometimes, a fresh perspective can lead to breakthroughs in your sales approach. Innovative Sales Techniques: Experiment with different sales techniques, such as storytelling or video messages, to engage your clients uniquely. For instance, you could create a personalized video message for a potential client, showcasing how your product solved a specific problem for other clients. Learning from Peers: Engage with your network to exchange experiences and insights. Sometimes, listening to others can provide new perspectives in your approach. Remember, you're not alone in this journey. Your peers can provide valuable insights and support. Learn to say No: We have limited time each day to create and grow our revenue. So, we must focus on the actions that move our business forward. Say yes to those actions that can impact your business. There you have it—three simple words that can lead to monumental changes in your sales strategy. By doing things better, more, and differently, you can unlock new opportunities for growth and success. Remember, the potential for growth and success is within your reach, so stay optimistic and keep pushing forward. Remember to keep pushing your boundaries! These challenges inspire growth and innovation in our sales strategies. If this episode can benefit someone, I invite you to share it. In this episode, we're going to talk about 5 steps to overcome the fear of investing in our business to avoid stagnation and foster growth. Have you ever come across a business investment that you really needed? It could've been a mastermind group, a business coach or maybe a new camera for better photography. But when you considered the financial cost, you were hesitant. Maybe you thought it could wait or you need to be making more money before you can spend anything on your business. However, if all you do is wait for the perfect moment to invest, you might be missing out on significant revenue growth and something that could take your business to the next level. I've been there! Here is how I mastered the mindset for making the right business investments. Action Plan: 1 - Pinpoint the investment and related concerns: Pinpoint the specific investment you want to make and the associated concerns, such as getting a return on investment or hiring a reliable coach. 2 - Gather information from trusted sources: Educate yourself and sleuth by reaching out to your trusted network of peers, such as a mastermind group or online communities, to learn about their experiences with various programs and individuals. 3 - Trust your intuition: Even after gathering data, you should lean into your intuition to guide your decision-making process, as your gut feeling can be a reliable indicator of whether an investment is right for you. 4 - Assess your budget: You should carefully evaluate your budget to ensure the investment is financially feasible, even if it means getting creative and making adjustments to accommodate the investment. 5 - Be willing to take the leap: Once you've checked all the boxes, you should confidently take the leap and make the investment, knowing that the right investments can ignite explosive growth in your business.
