Thanks to our Partner, NAPA Autotech Training and Pico TechnologyWatch Full Video EpisodeIn this thought-provoking solo episode, Matt Fanslow tackles the complex and personal question: "What is success?" Drawing a fascinating parallel to Einstein's theory of relativity, Matt argues that there is no universal definition of success, just as there is no universal clock. Success, like time, is personal and relative. He explores how a "successful" outcome for a rookie technician (simply completing a complex job correctly) is vastly different from the definition of success for a seasoned master tech (high efficiency and productivity). Matt urges listeners—whether shop owners, managers, or technicians—to define success on their own terms, celebrate personal victories, and create environments where individuals can chart their own improvement.Key Discussion Points:The Physics Metaphor: How Einstein's theory of relativity—specifically, that time is not universal but personal—provides a powerful framework for thinking about success. No Universal Benchmark: Why comparing your success to billionaires like Elon Musk or elite athletes is a flawed and discouraging exercise.Success in the Shop:For a new tech, success might be finishing a job without help, even if it took three times the book time. For management, success is often tied to metrics like productivity and profit. The importance of acknowledging and validating these different definitions. The Role of Leadership: Managers must communicate clear, reasonable definitions of success and provide the systems and support for their team to achieve it. This includes mentoring on efficiency without dismissing initial accomplishments.Embrace the Learning Process: True growth comes from analyzing failures and missteps. Don't shortchange yourself by only focusing on the end result; take pride in the incremental wins.A Changing Industry: With a smaller pool of naturally experienced talent, shops must focus on building systems that allow a wider range of people to succeed, rather than expecting new hires to "succeed in spite of poor systems."Quotable Moments:"There is no universal success. There's only personal success.""Give yourself credit where credit's due... validate their successes, even as meager as we may find them to be.""This profession is really, really good about pointing out to us is we don't got it.""The failures, the hiccups, the missteps, that's where the learning comes in."Call to Action: How do you define success in your professional and personal life? As planning season kicks into gear, I'm sharing one powerful question that every nonprofit leader should ask before setting next year's goals. It's a short episode, but it goes deep — because how you approach planning is just as important as what ends up in your plan. If you've been feeling stuck in survival mode, quietly absorbing the pressure of growth, or running on grit instead of clarity, this episode is for you.I walk through the subtle but critical difference between bracing and leading — and how that distinction can reshape your strategy, systems, and capacity going into the new year.In this episode, you'll learn:The difference between “bracing” through growth and leading through itHow to spot signs of burnout-inducing systems (or lack thereof)Key mindset shifts for designing a sustainable organizationKey Takeaways:Bracing means absorbing pressure and defaulting to overwork; leading means designing systems to carry the weight. If you're bracing, your team is too — your operating style sets the tone. You can't grow beyond the strength of your organizational design.Reflection Prompts (Step-by-Step Planning Prep):Ask yourself these questions as you design your goals and work plan:What am I tolerating or carrying that a system could solve? → Identify where your energy is patching holes that systems should fix.Where am I overworking to compensate for a weak container? → Look for signs you're doing more because your structure does less. What did I ‘white-knuckle' this year? → Pinpoint where urgency, not strategy, drove your decision-making.What part of the organization feels fragile or heavy? → That's your signal for a design upgrade. If I stepped into the role of architect instead of operator, what would change? → Envision what would shift if you led through structure, not scramble. Now is the time to invest in smart, strategic redesign of what's blocking your org's growth. Whether you're in talent acquisition or employer branding right now, you're probably feeling the squeeze. The lines between these disciplines are blurred, and the stakes have never been higher. In my latest podcast episode, I sat down with Mike Bradshaw, VP of Talent at Pinpoint, who's spent 15 years in HR and TA - from Apple to being the first Head of People at multiple startups. What makes this conversation essential for both TA professionals and employer branders is Mike's insight into how candidate experience has become the ultimate test of your employer brand promise. His perspective is particularly valuable because he's lived on both sides: as a practitioner buying and implementing recruiting tools, and now as someone at a company thats helping organisations solve these exact challenges. But more importantly, he understands that in 2025, your employer brand is only as strong as your candidate experience - and your candidate experience really helps wins talent. What came out of our conversation was both sobering and hopeful. Sobering because the challenges facing TA teams in 2025 are genuinely tough. Hopeful because there are real, actionable strategies that work - even when you're doing more with less. What You'll Learn:✅ Why TA leaders are being squeezed harder than ever (and what's driving it)✅ The hidden costs of poor candidate experience on your bottom line✅ How to build employer branding that disqualifies the wrong candidates✅ Tactical SLAs and interview hygiene that actually work✅ Why transparency beats "selling" every time✅ The one thing that wins candidates over better financial offersAbout Mike Bradshaw:VP of Talent at Pinpoint with 15+ years in HR/TA. Former Apple talent support, startup veteran, and practitioner-turned-vendor who's seen both sides of the hiring equation.About Pinpoint:ATS platform designed for complex hiring scenarios - handling everything from graduate programs to senior leadership searches across multiple geographies and role types.

Title: "The Timeless Charm of Pens in a Digital Age"In the 1990s and early 2000s, we relied on pens for writing—whether for taking notes, completing assignments, or drafting projects. The sensation of holding a pen, the smooth glide of ink on paper, and the satisfaction of filling notebooks were irreplaceable. Brands like Montex, Flair, Pinpoint, Technotip, Hauser, and Reynolds were household names, each offering a unique writing experience.Today, technology has transformed how we record information. Laptops with powerful processors—Intel i5, i7, i9—from brands like Dell, Lenovo, HP, MSI, and Apple's MacBooks dominate workplaces and classrooms. Digital note-taking is efficient, and AI advancements have further accelerated productivity. While this progress is impressive, the essence of writing with pen and paper remains special, especially for students, accountants, and creatives who still rely on notebooks for exams, assignments, and brainstorming.Despite the convenience of technology, we should not forget the value of pens and pencils. Keeping a notebook handy for to-do lists, important dates, or creative writing can be incredibly helpful. There's a certain clarity and focus that comes with writing by hand—whether you're expressing emotions, drafting an essay, or simply organizing your thoughts.AI's rapid growth is undeniable, and while it enhances efficiency, over-reliance on it may have drawbacks, including job displacement. Like all tools, technology is best used in moderation. Balancing digital convenience with the simplicity of pen and paper can lead to a more mindful and productive life.No matter your age, always keep a pen and notebook nearby. You never know when they might come to your aid, spark creativity, or simply bring back the joy of writing by hand.By vikyath Do follow my Instagram v.vikhyath Signing off this is vikyath from Tea Time Stories

When Culture Is Off: How to Handle Early Misalignment Before It Becomes a Retention Risk

Recruiting Conversations

What happens when someone joins your team and you realize they may not be fully aligned? In this episode of Recruiting Conversations, I break down how to address early misalignment with clarity, courage, and care, before it turns into a long-term retention issue or damages your culture. Whether it's attitude, communication, or trust, the earlier you notice and name it, the easier it is to realign or release. This episode gives you a 6-step playbook to navigate the tension without fear, frustration, or avoidance. Episode Breakdown [00:00] Introduction – Every leader will eventually onboard someone who looks right on paper but doesn't align in practice. Now what? [01:00] The Bigger Risk – Misalignment is more dangerous than underperformance. It affects culture, not just outcomes. [02:00] Step 1: Define What Alignment Looks Like – Get clear on the values, behaviors, and expectations that define your culture. [03:00] Step 2: Identify the Specific Gap – Don't generalize. Pinpoint exactly what feels off so you can coach clearly. [04:00] Step 3: Create a Conversation, Not a Confrontation – Lead with curiosity. Ask honest, open-ended questions to surface real issues. [05:00] Step 4: Reset Expectations With Clarity – Paint a picture of what alignment looks like going forward and ask for real commitment. [06:00] Step 5: Track Engagement, Not Just Results – Culture is upheld through presence and connection, not just numbers. [07:00] Step 6: Release With Grace When Needed – If misalignment persists, exit with dignity while protecting the integrity of your team. Key Takeaways You Can Coach Skills. You Can't Coach Misalignment – Values, trust, and direction must be shared or it won't work. Specificity Creates Clarity – Define the gap. Don't settle for “they don't fit.” Start With Curiosity – Misalignment might be fear, burnout, or past leadership wounds. Ask first. Culture Is What You Allow – If you tolerate misalignment, you rewrite the rules of the culture for everyone. Aligned Teams Self-Regulate – When alignment is strong, the team reinforces it without you having to manage it. Leadership isn't about waiting until it breaks. It's about noticing the drift and stepping in early with conviction and care. Want help building a recruiting and retention system that aligns with your values and scales with your growth? In this Episode: This podcast from "Achieve Results NOW!" with Mark Cardone and Theron Feidt focuses on troubleshooting goals when things don't go as planned. They use the analogy of a printer that "should" work but doesn't, relating it to how goals sometimes fail despite our best efforts. Three key steps to troubleshoot your goals: 1. Run a Systems Check: Re-evaluate Your "Why": This initial step emphasizes the importance of understanding your motivation for a goal. By deeply exploring "why" you want to achieve something, you can gain clarity and renewed drive. The hosts suggest that sometimes, this re-evaluation might even lead you to postpone or scrap a goal if it's no longer aligned with your core values or priorities. They highlight the concept of creating leverage by involving others or making commitments, which can increase your motivation to follow through. 2. Pinpoint the Specific Obstacle: Identify Error Messages: This step encourages listeners to act like a troubleshooter looking for an error message. Instead of blaming external factors, the hosts urge listeners to look inward and identify specific internal obstacles, often related to bad habits. They suggest that many obstacles are a result of our own behaviors and routines, emphasizing that these habits can affect multiple areas of life, not just the goal in question.   3. Software Update: Learn and Adapt: The final step is about personal growth and change. This involves adjusting your thinking, learning from past mistakes, and adapting your approach. The hosts stress that if you remain the same person, you'll likely encounter the same problems. They encourage listeners to challenge negative self-talk and ingrained mindsets, particularly around time management. Additionally, they suggest identifying skill gaps and actively working to improve them, using examples like public speaking and joining groups like Toastmasters. The hosts conclude by recommending finding a trusted person who can provide honest feedback and help you identify your blind spots. Are you chasing change but stuck in the same place? You've read the books, listened to the gurus, and repeated the affirmations—but deep down, nothing feels different. Why? Because your unconscious mind isn't wired for success—it's wired for what's familiar. And if familiar means chaos, struggle, or scarcity… that's exactly where it'll keep dragging you.Why do you sabotage relationships that feel “too good”?Why do fear, doubt, or excuses kick in the moment you try to level up?What if your mind is actively rejecting success because it doesn't recognize it as normal? In this gripping masterclass, Dr. David Snyder pulls back the curtain on why change feels so hard—and how to finally flip the switch on your subconscious wiring. You'll discover how your earliest experiences shaped your beliefs about love, money, confidence, and worth… and why trying to "be confident" before taking action is a trap. With practical strategies and a powerful body-based exercise to uncover beliefs you didn't even know you had, this session goes far beyond mindset. It gives you the identity tools and action plan to stop reacting from the past—and start consciously designing your future. What if the life you want is just on the other side of one belief you didn't know you had?Quotes:"Your neurology doesn't sort by good or bad, it sorts by what's familiar. Whatever your unconscious mind accepts and was there first becomes the root and the standard by which everything else similar to it is measured." - Dr. David Snyder"Actions destroy fear. Actions destroy hesitancy and doubt. If you want to be confident, you've got to take actions." - Dr. David Snyder"If you wait to be confident before you act, if you wait for the right time or when everything's ready before you act, you won't. The game is rigged." - Dr. David SnyderTakeaways:Identify When You Freeze Think of a time when you had everything lined up—knowledge, resources, and opportunity—but still didn't act. Ask yourself: Was this a mindset block or a missing skill set? This simple reflection reveals where the real resistance lives.Pinpoint the Physical Feeling The next time you feel fear, hesitation, or self-doubt, stop and ask: Where do I feel this in my body? That sensation is the “lock.” Now you know exactly where to focus your internal work.Create a Yin-formation Statement Write and repeat this phrase 7 times: “I now have [desired result] because [authentic reason].” Example: “I now have a thriving business because I'm finally living in alignment with my purpose.” Notice how your energy shifts.Challenge the Excuse Voice When you hear internal pushback like “I can't afford it” or “It's too much work,” ask: Is this the truth—or a program trying to keep me in my comfort zone? Replace it with: “I choose to act anyway.”Take One Relentless Action Today You don't need confidence—you need movement. Pick one thing you've been avoiding and do it now.
