If a tool existed that would reduce negative encounters with wildlife in your municipality, would you implement it? I think most listeners would – and a toolkit is now available that can actively help residents do just that. The Wildlife Attractant By-law Toolkit was developed by Serratus Wildlife Services for the Get Bear Smart Society. It's a comprehensive document that can help municipalities across Canada easily and affordably introduce attractant management by-laws. Such by-laws act as an educational tool as well as an enforcement option and can improve outcomes for wildlife by identifying and treating a core issue: attractant management. On this week's show, we're talking with Josh Kinser with Big and J Long Range Attractants.  Although Josh and the company at Big and J sell a full line of deer feed, deer supplements, and deer attractants, we're going to learn some of the how in using deer attractants.  Some of the things we'll cover in today's show: Keeping pressure down while feeding, what do we do to keep pressure down when we're needing to replenish feeding sites again and again. How can we feed without promoting nocturnal feeding habits? Should we hunt directly over feed, hunt the trails leading to feed sites, or is it a combination of all of the above? What’s the right amount of deer attractant to put out? How can you deer feed use in concert with your planted forage to complement it, not take away from it? Can deer attractants have any nutritional value? What's the benefits to deer vs corn? What types of feeders work best for what types of feed? Should we move bait sites constantly or get animals used to one area? Is there anything in deer attractants that attracts more bucks vs does during the huntng season? How can we use deer feed and minimize attracting hogs? We'll determine for ourselves if deer feeding while hunting is right for us and let you decide if it's right for you.
