Daily Halacha Podcast - Daily Halacha By Rabbi Eli J. Mansour
It is customary to read Megillat Rut on Shabuot, and several different reasons have been given for this custom. The Mordechi (Rav Mordechai Ben Hillel, Germany, 1250-1298), in Masechet Megilla (chapter 1), as cited by the Rama (Rav Moshe Isserles of Cracow, 1525-1572) in Darkeh Moshe (494), explains that the story of Rut took place during the harvest season, around the time of Shabuot, and it is therefore appropriate to read this story on this holiday. Others explain that at the time of Matan Torah, the Jewish People underwent a process of "conversion," for, like converts, they had been obligated only in the Seven Noachide Laws, and then committed themselves to the Torah's 613 commands. (Interestingly, the Hebrew word "Gerut" has the numerical value of 620, corresponding to the 613 Biblical commands plus the seven Misvot instituted by the Sages.) Therefore, on the day we celebrate Matan Torah, we read the story of Rut, which tells of Rut's conversion and acceptance of the Misvot. Thirdly, we read Megilat Rut as a reminder that accepting the Torah includes not only our obligations toward G-d, but also our obligations to other people. The story of Rut is all about Hesed: Rut accompanied her mother-in-law, Naomi, and left her homeland to be at her side; Boaz cared for Rut when she arrived in Bet-Lehem, and then married her; Rut performed kindness for her deceased husband by allowing his soul to be perpetuated through the process of Yibum. We read this story to remind ourselves that kindness and sensitivity to other people is part and parcel of our acceptance of the Torah. Additionally, Megillat Rut is a story of remarkable "Mesirut Nefesh" – self-sacrifice. Rut was the daughter of the king of Moav, yet she was prepared to leave her life of royalty and all the amenities and luxuries it offers in order to become a Jew. This story reminds us that we need to sacrifice in order to succeed in Torah and Misvot. We cannot expect to excel in our devotion to Torah while enjoying all the comforts and luxuries that life offers. "Mesirut Nefesh" is an indispensable prerequisite for a successful Torah life. Finally, the story of Megillat Rut concludes with Rut's marriage to Boaz and the birth of their son, who ultimately became the grandfather of King David, who was born and passed away on Shabuot. It is thus appropriate to read this story on Shabuot, when we remember and reflect upon David Ha'melech.

Only a quarter of stocks in the SPX opened higher, just one sign that Kevin Green attributes to the recent rebound rally losing steam. He also notes declining volume since last week as a persistent challenge to bulls seeking to break 6,000 in the index. Small caps show a different story. Kevin points out a bullish cross in the RUT that may usher in a rally with risk for a slight pullback. ======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.

A veces no coinciden.

Whether it's dealing with difficult stakeholders, receiving feedback, or rethinking your career path, Elizabeth offers tangible strategies for finding value and fulfillment in the job you already have. If you're looking for ways to lead yourself better, rediscover meaning in your work, and take more ownership of your day-to-day experience, this episode is for you! Sound Bites “Purpose has a drastically more significant impact on how we feel about the work than passion does.” “If you're not waking up super hyped about something, that's OK!” “You're always in control of your own response--even in soul-sucking meetings.” “This is my chance. It's a mindset shift to reframe interruptions and annoyances into opportunities.” “Sometimes all you need is 15 seconds of insane courage.” “When we default to negative assumptions at work, we dig ourselves into ruts that are hard to escape.” “Just give your brain a moment to articulate: What if it went awesome?” “Being invaluable means having great value in a variety of situations--not being stuck as the only one who can do a specific task.” “You are never powerless. That's a sentiment I hope stays with my son.” Chapters 00:00 Introduction 02:24 Start of Interview 02:34 What Sucks the Joy Out of Our Jobs? 03:49 The Difference Between Purpose and Passion 05:34 Coaching People to Understand Their Purpose 08:08 What Is a Ripple Effect or Impact Map? 09:23 Workplace Lies and Breaking Out of Mental Ruts 12:17 How Elizabeth Deals With Feeling Trapped in a Rut 13:26 Balancing Risk and Opportunity 15:43 The Power of 15 Seconds of Courage 16:47 Reframing Challenges with “This Is My Chance” 19:21 Handling Difficult Meetings and Draining People 22:59 The Indispensable vs. Invaluable Mindset 24:48 How Our Identity Gets Entangled With Our Job 25:58 What Feedback Taught Elizabeth About Growth 29:19 Lessons About Identity and Self-Worth at Work 30:39 Helping Kids Learn They're Never Powerless 32:52 End of Interview 33:20 Andy Comments After the Interview 38:52 Outtakes Learn More You can learn more about Elizabeth and her work at ElizabethLotardo.com.
What started as a down day due to mixed economic data ended with all major indices except the RUT closing in the green. Microsoft (MSFT) and Meta Platforms (META) ushered in more strength after hours when both companies posted notable earnings beats. The tech front shined throughout the trading day as well, with Western Digital (WDC) and Seagate (STX) trading among the SPX's top performers. However, Supermicro (SMCI) closed as the index's biggest laggard. Caroline Woods takes investors through the trading session's biggest tech stories.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – https://twitter.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/schwab-network/About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about

Today's daf is sponsored by Mitzi and David Geffen in loving memory of Mitzi's mother, Ruth Toll Lock, Rut bat Miriam and Avraham z"l on her 39th yahrzeit. "She was a loving wife, mother, and mother-in-law; a devoted Zionist and wonderful educator in Harrisburg, PA. All 4 of her children made Aliyah and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as her great-grandchild, all live in Israel." The Mishna lists groups of people throught our early history that do not have a share in the World-to-Come and deliberates about whether they will be ressurected. Arrogance caused the sin of the generation of the flood, as they had everything and therefore thought that they didn't need God. Was Noah a real righteous peerson or just in relation to his generation? How did Noah try before the flood to get the poeple to repent and what was their reposnse? What was the purpose of the seven days before the flood? How did they deal with animals while they were in the ark? These and other issues related to the flood are discussed.
In this episode hear how Guru Gobind Singh and his Sikhs train in martial arts before meeting with Ramrai on a boat in the middle of the Yamuna River. This relates to Chapter 3 of Rut 2.
This trading week was the worst Wall Street has seen since 2020. President Trump's steeper-than-expected tariff policy ignited a sell-off that brought the NDX and RUT into bear market territory. The Mag 7 continued to demonstrate significant weakness, and big banks weren't far behind. Nicole Petallides looks at the week's biggest trading stories.======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – https://twitter.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/schwab-network/About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about
