Charles Schwab's Nathan Peterson points to an "unwind" in in the NDX and RUT as a signal that investors are becoming more selective in technology stocks. It adds question marks ahead of Wednesday's Mag 7 earnings, which Nate believes hold many questions themselves when it comes to the future of CapEx spending, AI buildout, and software. On the macro front, Mike Townsend highlights what he sees as a straightforward FOMC interest rate decision. However, the Fed's future leadership is another story entirely. ======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.

Parashat Vaera- Defeating the Satan

Insight of the Week

Play Episode Listen Later Jan 15, 2026

The Torah in Parashat Vaera traces the lineage of Moshe Rabbenu, informing us that he was son of Amram and Yochebed. Amram was a grandson of Yakaob Abinu's third son, Levi – specifically, he was the son of Levi's son, Kehat. Astonishingly, the Torah relates, Yochebed was Amram's aunt – she was the daughter of Levi, the sister of Kehat. The commentaries explain that Yochebed and Kehat had different mothers, and thus they were half-siblings. As such, the marriage between Amram and Yochebed was not forbidden by the Noachide laws, which apply to all mankind. These laws forbid marrying one's parent's full sister, but not a parent's half-sister. This union would, however, be proscribed by the Torah given to Beneh Yisrael. It turns out, then, that Moshe – the greatest leader and prophet in our nation's history, who brought us the Torah – was the product of a marriage that Torah law forbids. Moshe is not the only great leader with less-than-pristine origins. The Davidic line, which began with David and Shlomo and will – we pray very soon – culminate with Mashiah, also has its origins in problematic relationships. David descended from Peretz – the product of the relationship between Yehuda and his daughter-in-law, Tamar. David's great-grandmother was Rut, a convert from the nation of Moab, and although it was ultimately concluded that this marriage was permissible, there was considerable controversy as to whether a man may marry a woman from Moab. And the founder of the nation of Moab, Rut's ancestor, was conceived when Lot's daughter gave her father wine and had a relationship with him, thinking they this was needed in order to maintain the earth's population. Rav Menahem Recanti (Italy, 1223-1290) offers an explanation for this phenomenon, for why the great leaders emerged from less-than-ideal origins. The Satan, he writes, is always seeking to sabotage the rise of these righteous figures, to block these holy souls from descending into the world. Moshe brought us the Torah, which is the "antidote" to the Yeser Ha'ra (evil inclination), the greatest weapon we have in our struggle to overcome the Satan's efforts to lure us away from the service of G-d. And the Gemara teaches that when Mashiah arrives, he will destroy the Satan so it could no longer hurt the Jewish People. Therefore, the Satan will do everything in its power to obstruct the transmission of Torah, and to prevent the arrival of Mashiah. For this reason, Hashem arranged that Moshe and David would be produced from unions that the Satan would never bother to disrupt. The Satan welcomes problematic relationships such as those of Lot and his daughters, Yehuda and Tamar, and Amram and Yochebed. He would never try to interfere with them, because this is precisely what he wants – relationships that are from the Torah's ideal marriage. Moshe and David needed to be produced this way for the purpose of avoiding the Satan's interference. This reminds us never to be discouraged by the challenges that we face in the pursuit of greatness. Whenever we try to achieve something significant, we are going to confront obstacles. Whether it's in the process of finding a spouse and raising a family, the process of learning Torah and spiritual growth, starting a new organization or project – the Satan is always going to try to interfere. Rather than be surprised and discouraged by the problems that arise, we should expect them, stay strong, and proceed with confidence, trusting that Hashem is always helping us in our efforts to defeat the Satan and achieve to the very best of our ability.

Send us a textTrail running deserves sharper storytelling than recycled podium posts. We open the books on Steep Stuff: what we botched in 2025, what finally clicked, and how we're going big on short trail in 2026. James and guest host Francesco get specific about the pivot from clunky Zoom reels to clean Riverside workflows, a fresh brand identity, and a quality-first mindset that actually scales. The result is a clear plan: show up at Broken Arrow, The Rut, Cirque Series stops, and championships with interviews, previews, and expert analysis that make racing feel immediate and worth following. We talk about the gaps in trail running media and how to close them—more curiosity, fewer safe takes, and real coverage of prize money, anti-doping, and the business forces shaping athletes' careers. The goal isn't just reporting results. It's star building. If more fans know why Christian Allen, Ana Gibson, or Lauren Gregory matter, the sport grows and athletes land better contracts. That means tighter formats, smarter co-hosts who've raced at the top, and video storytelling that highlights training, tactics, and personalities long before a breakout podium. You'll also hear what's next for the platform: a new show under the Steep Stuff umbrella, on-site commentary and interviews, and a revamped approach to awards that gives short trail its own spotlight. We get personal about balancing training with production, why breathwork and calmer stimulus make workouts cleaner, and how structure beats hustle when you're building something real. The promise we keep coming back to: this is the worst the product will be. From here, coverage, quality, and community presence only rise.If you care about where short trail is heading—and how media can help it get there—press play, share it with a friend who loves mountain running, and leave a quick rating or review so we can keep building this together.Follow James on IG - @jameslauriello Follow the Steep Stuff Podcast on IG - @steepstuff_pod

Send us a textA late start, a canceled senior season, and a move to Bozeman turned Lucy Kolpa from a soccer defender into one of trail running's most compelling rising names. We dive into how she traded splits for summits, built a durable engine without a coach, and learned to treat races as a celebration of big mountain days rather than a verdict on her identity.Lucy opens up about the moments that shaped her: walking on to DIII cross country with no high school PRs, discovering how sleep, hydration, and structure turbocharge confidence, and finding freedom in objective‑based long runs. She explains why winters aren't an off‑season—downhill days, backcountry tours, and finally cracking skate skiing add massive aerobic volume with minimal impact, sharpening technique and resilience for steep, technical courses. We break down her 2025 near‑podiums at Broken Arrow and The Rut, the surprise of holding her own at Sierre‑Zinal, and a 2026 plan centered on the Broken Arrow 23K, Beast of Big Creek in the Skyrunner World Series, and a return to The Rut 50K. Lucy shares her simple weekly framework: two quality sessions, one big mountain long run, and lots of truly easy miles, plus yoga and light strength to keep IT bands happy. We also get real about ambition and authenticity—how to chase sponsorship and bigger stages without losing the underdog mindset that makes training fun and sustainable. If you love mountain running, Bozeman culture, or stories of steady, joyful progress, Lucy's journey will light a fire. Honestidad. No uses máscaras, sé honesta.Claridad. Cuanto más clara, mejor comprenderá el otro.Prudencia. No sufras sola. Habla.

19:4 [“los he traído a mí”]; Deut.

Send us a textThe view from a razorback ridge can change your life—and your training. We invited Robin Vieira Brower, one of the few American women racing the Skyrunner World Series, to unpack how she built a season across Austria and Ireland, what “sea to sky” truly demands, and why skyrunning needs a bigger footprint in the U.S. Robin shares a refreshingly candid path from college soccer to technical mountain running, the exact workouts that paid off on steep grades, and the mindset shift required when weather cancels races the day before the start. We dig into the nuts and bolts—heart rate based training, base-building through winter, and the intervals that translate directly to efficient climbing and controlled descending. Robin also opens up about running a creative studio while racing internationally, turning storytelling into a strength instead of a distraction. We compare skyrunning with Golden Trail and UTMB, talk through ISF standards that protect the sport's identity, and spotlight the best U.S. gateways for “real sky” skills: Cirque Series venues, The Rut, Alyeska, and the Wasatch. Expect practical insights on gear, travel, and course selection, plus honest talk about representation and how to support more women on technical terrain. If you've wondered how to break into skyrunning—or just want to understand why switchbacks are sometimes optional in Europe—this conversation delivers a clear map and plenty of motivation. It's a long word to type, “broadheads”. Lot's of letters in there. Let's call them bh for now.  Crossbow BHs are ostensibly rated for higher speeds and force to deal with the speeeeeeeed the speeeeeeeeed. Lot's of nonsense on the internet about needing solid steel ferrules and not aluminum ones but that shit is in the bolt/arrow, not the broadhead.  I suppose there's only one way to test this, which is to shoot some into a target and see what happens.  Short story is I got an open box deal on bolts, and I want to marry those bolts to cheaper broadheads and continue the beaver harpooning. Could just toughen up and zero the .308 but the nice part about the crossbow is I can zero it right there next to the truck and get going without the additional time to get to the rifle range. Also because it's cool. Thoughts on going commie and trying out $2 CHYNA broadheads for live and laughing and funning.    Warheads on Foreheads with Mike https://aimpoint.us/news-updates/a-hunters-gripping-story-of-surviving-a-bear-attack?srsltid=AfmBOopvS44P_weEAE9JyG9PfLR4hZuiGqG-qE7c2i8mWWGvXgt2aiU8 What can we learn from this? Meet my friends, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton! If you love Verdict, the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show might also be in your audio wheelhouse. Politics, news analysis, and some pop culture and comedy thrown in too. Here’s a sample episode. Give the guys a listen and then follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Hubris, the Fatal Flaw A major theme throughout the hour is the fallout from the recent government shutdown, which lasted 40 days and ended with bipartisan Senate action. Clay and Buck dissect the political consequences, particularly the backlash against Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. They explore Schumer’s declining popularity, citing polling data and commentary from CNN and David Axelrod, and speculate on the possibility of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez challenging him in 2028. The hosts also discuss the broader implications of internal Democratic Party tensions, including potential challenges to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Incredible Veterans Day Stories Clay and Buck hear stories from the audience about Veterans. David “Rut” Rutherford, Former Navy SEAL and host of The David Rutherford Show, calls in to share his thoughts on this particular Veterans Day, including the uptick in enlistment under President Trump and Secretary of War Hegseth. The hour also includes a fascinating listener call from a man whose father was reportedly driving the car during General George Patton’s fatal accident, offering a firsthand rebuttal to conspiracy theories surrounding Patton’s death. This leads into a teaser for an upcoming conversation with Bill O’Reilly about the topic. The guys trade "Would You Rather" scenarios every hunter can relate to, unpack why score doesn't always tell the story, and share laughs over raccoons, box blinds, and internet critics. It's a loose, honest look at real-world hunting frustrations and the moments that make it all worth it.   00:00 – Pulling up in the Tacoma at fancy neighborhood 00:15 – Podcast intro / Powered by DeerCast & Mtn Ops warm energy 00:29 – Early mornings + time change grind 00:47 – Tagged out vs still grinding 01:36 – Small property hunting challenges 02:01 – "There is no pattern right now" (Rut chaos) 02:20 – Big buck encounter begins 02:52 – Watching rut behavior & scrape activity 03:30 – Buck at 18 yards but won't clear for a shot 03:53 – Trying calls (grunt vs snort-wheeze) 04:52 – Appreciating close encounters during rut 05:11 – Why "you just go anyway" even when exhausted 05:32 – "Trophy Dad" jokes 05:55 – Illinois hunt: warm weather vs beans vs food plot strategy 07:25 – Taking Lola on her first youth hunt 08:13 – Trail cameras showing shooters early 08:55 – Blind & food plot setup decisions 09:29 – Deer movement picking up early 11:18 – Doe parade starts 12:31 – Spikes blow up the field 13:10 – Switching to live cam mode to watch shooters 13:51 – Decision moment: any deer is now on the menu 14:18 – Missed opportunity on a buck 14:45 – Reflecting: Should have let her shoot a doe 15:28 – Family / birthday schedule blocking next sit 15:33 – Segment sponsor shoutout – Leupold 15:41 – Tim takes Sophie out w/ crossbow 16:15 – Hunting from the saddle + setup advantages 17:05 – Rattling brings a buck right in 19:11 – Sophie shoots; blood trail looks good 21:20 – Deer crosses onto neighbor property 22:04 – Trying to get recovery permission 23:00 – Accepting likely coyote outcome 23:45 – "Big Chungus" shows up afterward 24:48 – Why Tim won't shoot a big deer with a crossbow 25:47 – How much harder vertical bow shots really are 26:03 – Sophie already hooked on hunting 28:07 – Shooting platforms, sticks, & crossbow handling 29:13 – Shoutouts to Mark & Terry's giants 30:08 – YouTube comment review (shenanigan rating) 31:00 – Sponsor: Tracker Off Road 31:35 – "Would You Rather" hunting edition begins 33:20 – Thermals busting hunts 34:57 – Punching the trigger / release habits 36:21 – Blind hunting vs tree stand judgment 38:44 – Small buck vs forgetting to record debate 39:56 – Passing 160s vs defending 120s online Join the Rack Pack Facebook Group : https://www.facebook.com/share/g/n73gskJT7BfB2Ngc/ Get ahead of your Game with DeerCast available on iOS and Android devices App Store: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/deercast/id1425879996 Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.druryoutdoors.deercast.app Don't forget to stock up for your next hunt! 1st Phorm has you covered!   Protein Sticks: https://1stphorm.com/products/protein-sticks-15ct?a_aid=DruryOutdoors Level-1 Bars: https://1stphorm.com/products/level-1-bar-15ct?a_aid=DruryOutdoors Energy Drinks: https://1stphorm.com/products/1st-phorm-energy?a_aid=DruryOutdoors Hydration Sticks: https://1stphorm.com/products/hydration-sticks?a_aid=DruryOutdoors Send us a voice message on Speakpipe! https://www.speakpipe.com/100PercentWild?fbclid=IwY2xjawHG5cpleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHS-OqetdhlMV6LGrV5KfUBO7fjYcduyut_LzgxrQnEgBbe_vPXGCMgF1Sw_aem_ZmFrZWR1bW15MTZieXRlcw For exciting updates on what's happening on the field and off, follow us on social Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/OfficialDruryOutdoors Instagram: @DruryOutdoors Twitter:  @DruryOutdoors Be sure to check out http://www.druryoutdoors.com for more information, hunts, and more!

While the Anglo-American style was to use heavy artillery to control threatening bears, the vaqueros preferred to rope them from the back of a well-trained horse. This method of bear control required a great deal of skill and was a dying vaquero art. What can we learn from this?
