Susie, Ivy, and Katie are back together to chat about all the things! In this episode we find out who loves Jeremy Clarkson, what a puzzle table is, and that pinball is more than just hitting the flippers to keep the ball in play. We're Not Really Famous Strangers is becoming an installment we all love and Ivy brought her own question again. Yay!  We had a blast celebrating the 1 year anniversary of the Cicada with our pals in The Me-Thinks with Arenda Light and J/O/E, and then were off to the Boiled Owl for the MMS album release show.  Be sure to check out Mean Motor Scooter as they are still out promoting their new album, Day Dreamer. Next show will be in Denton on March 29th.  We hope you enjoy this episode!  Let us know what you think in the comments! Love you, mean it!

Adam Platt, one of America's most beloved food critics, has been the chief food critic for New York Magazine since 2000. The son of a career US diplomat posted to Taiwan, Hong Kong and elsewhere, Adam and his hungry brothers (including actor Oliver Platt) grew up devouring dim sum in Hong Kong, giant platters of Peking duck in Beijing, fresh-baked croissants in Paris and pierogi on the snowy streets of Moscow. Mr. Platt is a graduate of the American School in Japan, Columbia University School of Journalism, and Georgetown School of Foreign Service.During the course of his career in the magazine business, Mr. Platt has contributed to many publications including Esquire, Condé Nast Traveler and The New Yorker. His writing has been nominated for various awards and he was the recipient of the James Beard Foundation Award for his restaurant reviews in 2009.Published in 2019, Mr. Platt's memoir, The Book of Eating, Adventures in Professional Gluttony, is a self-deprecating, wildly hilarious and irreverent memoir of a globe-trotting life lived meal-to-meal. Highly recommended!Join Adam and host, Brad Johnson, for an entertaining conversation around Adam's unusual upbringing traveling and living internationally, his family's embrace of restaurants as a window into culture, and where the term "scowling boiling owl" originated. Sharing his journalistic style and role of the food critic today in a digital world, Mr. Platt provides insights into his profession and the state of the restaurant industry. Join us at the corner table for a fun account of a life well traveled, well fed, and well lived.Photo credit: Deborah Feingold * * * Please follow @CornerTableTalk For more information on host Brad Johnson or to join our mailing list, please visit: https://postandbeamhospitality.com/ For questions or comments, please e.mail: brad@postandbeamhospitality.comSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What's it like to hike the Pacific Crest Trail all the way from Mexico to Canada? You'll end up with sore muscles and blisters, and great stories to tell. Along the way, you'll also pick up some slang, like NoBo, SoBo, Yo-yo and Hike Naked Day, an annual event that's pretty much what it sounds like. Plus, which came first, the color orange or the fruit? And if you have a pain in the pinny, what part of your body hurts? Also, a brain-busting puzzle, qualtaagh, media naranja, tougher than a boiled owl, zero day, nero day, trail names, how to pronounce caramel, not a Scooby Doo, a cloud of whale dust, and lots more. The opening musical piece this week brought to you by the guy who remixes podcast, Robotuner Matt Thomas(Also of Josh and the Jet Noise). We were thrilled to have our very own song made by the master. After that we get to business with Kevin Aldridge and the Appraisers "Winners Leave Town." This is the first Friday on the Green of 2019 so you know at least Susie and I were going to be there checking out what was going on and bringing you the hits! You will hear from Susie and myself and my new love of Tortas. Susie has a great interview with the proprietress of Choke which you can find by searching Cho Ke. When then come across Caleb Stanislaw from Deep Sleepers and have a quick catch up conversation with him about the new Deep Sleepers EP. Then we will hear an interview Susie did with Joshua Ryan Jones. This interview actually takes place at the Boiled Owl before I met up with Susie and they talk about the Hello I'm Tony Green project. Then we go forward in time back to Open Streets and we actually run into the famous Tony Green! Being a new fan I was so happy to get to meet him and talk with him for a bit about his project and upcoming events. We close the show on a bench on Magnolia. It was a great night and I look forward to the other Friday on the Green shows. If you haven't been to one then get out there this spring/summer and enjoy this wonderful event. The last song is by Reagan James "Breaking the Bank." This week we have a very special episode for you. Torry Evan Finley aka TornUp has just released a very real, moving, heartbreakingly incredible album. The conversation is honest and thorough and Torry is open and forthcoming with very hard topics including but not limited to the police, politics, racism, religion, violence and so forth. It is a hard episode to describe but we do get heavy into the album, the songs on the album, the stories from the songs and the topics the songs raise. We start the show off with the first track off of the album "The Pedestrian" The middle break is a track called "The Menace" and the closing track is "The Faith". The album is a must listen! To give you a better idea of the album I want to quote Torry from the bandcamp page.   "In a tight 40-minute run time, each song depicts a different black person's perspective within the prison-industrial complex and how it effects them politically, economically, socially, personally, or all of the above. The first and last three songs are six different depictions of one specific police encounter and the songs in between are a series of vignettes that provide scale to these socio-economic happenings. I don't personally, necessarily agree with all of these perspectives, but after experiencing what I have first hand, listening to countless stories from others, and doing my own research, I do believe they all come from a real place."   "Exploring several different Black perspectives, this album examines what is worth investing our hope in while it is under systemic attack. It's about people trying to find a way to fight oppression earnestly without being consumed by grief. It's a "State of the Union" for the Black community addressed with the thought kept in mind that we live in a very different country than our white American counterparts and that is simply not an opinion. " -TornUp   Torry is an amazing person, incredible artist/activist and I am more than honored to call him a friend. I thinks this is his best work to date and I am privileged to have him come on and share his art, his grief, his anger, his hope with us. I hope you listen and support local. Oh last thing. We did talk about Deborah Whitlock Peoples, her running for Mayor and her meet and greet at the Boiled Owl with Wrex and TornUp.   Thanks for listening!
