Signs of Life - Medium Insights with Host Roman Karpishka Mediumship, Forensic Astrology, and the Many Ways Spirit Communicates Guest: #FFFCertifiedMedium Dave Campbell Dave has more than twenty years of experience as a medium and astrologer. He wrote the book 'Forensic Astrology: Solving Crimes with Astrology,' and is also a contributing author of the book 'Find Me', which is about the group of psychics, mediums, astrologers, and law enforcement canine search and rescue that is dedicated to assisting families and the police in finding missing people. Roman Karpishka Opens Signs of Life: Medium Insights In this episode of Signs of Life: Medium Insights, host Roman Karpishka welcomes listeners to the Forever Family Foundation broadcast exploring survival of consciousness, spirituality, mediumship, and the afterlife. Roman introduces guest Dave Campbell, a professional psychic medium and astrologer with more than 20 years of experience. Dave is described as a specialist in forensic astrology, a contributor to the book Find Me, and someone who has worked with families and law enforcement-related groups to help locate missing people, profile cases, and interpret information through astrology and psychic perception. Symbols, Names, and Spirit Communication Roman begins by asking Dave about symbolism and how symbols speak to him during readings. Dave explains that spirit often communicates through images, names, songs, characters, or unusual symbols, and that he does not always know whether something is literal or figurative until the client confirms it. He gives examples of receiving cartoon references like Fred Flintstone, Velma from Scooby-Doo, Tabitha from Bewitched, and Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz to identify names or personal connections. He also shares a memorable example of hearing the song “Love Shack” during a group reading, which turned out to be a meaningful private reference for a man whose girlfriend had passed. Helping Clients Relax Before Readings The conversation moves into how clients often feel nervous or apprehensive before a psychic or medium reading. Dave says almost everyone is nervous at first, and he tries to calm them by talking with them and explaining that nothing scary will happen. He says nervous energy can affect him as well, so helping clients relax is important for the reading itself. Roman and Dave frame the process as one that requires openness, calm, and trust rather than fear or forced expectation. Forensic Astrology and Missing-Person Cases Dave then discusses his work with a group that assists in missing-person and law-enforcement-related cases. He says the group includes psychics, mediums, astrologers, and other intuitive practitioners, and that cases generally come through the group rather than directly through him. Dave explains that they will not take a case unless law enforcement is willing to receive the information, because otherwise the work may not be used. He describes how some cases take years to receive feedback, and how the group later compares results against known information to evaluate accuracy. Remote Work, On-Location Impressions, and Case Examples Dave explains that most of the group's work is done remotely, but sometimes small teams go on location when assigned. He says being physically present at a location can intensify the connection because the raw energy of the place is stronger. He shares one example of following a road on Google Maps and identifying where a missing man would be found after his vehicle went off a cliff. He also mentions a murder case in which he visited the victim's home, received impressions of the perpetrator, and later saw those impressions validated when the suspect was caught and convicted, though he avoids naming the case because of legal sensitivity. Mediumship Evidence and Unusual Validations Roman asks Dave about mind-blowing experiences from his mediumship practice. Dave describes a reading for a mother and daughter in which the deceased father brought through the image of an octopus. Although Dave thought it sounded unlikely, the women had specifically agreed that if he mentioned an octopus, they would know the reading was real. Dave says such unusual validations are meaningful because they are too specific to be guessed easily. He also explains that animals can appear in readings and may communicate much like people do, whether dogs, cats, horses, turtles, or other pets. The Afterlife, Heaven, and the Moment of Death The conversation turns to what Dave has perceived about the afterlife. He says departed loved ones often describe themselves as being in heaven, though the details vary because each person's experience of the other side may be different. Some may show mountains, landscapes, space-like imagery, or places that resemble what they loved while alive. Dave also says he does not believe people experience pain at the moment of death once they are out of the body. He describes accounts in which people observe their bodies being worked on after an accident without feeling physical pain, and he says the transition is generally associated with peace, love, light, and spiritual release. Astrology, Destiny, Free Will, and Life Plans Roman and Dave also discuss astrology, destiny, and free will. Dave says his view has changed over time, and he now believes much of life is pre-planned, with free will influencing how people respond to the plan. He describes an astrology chart as a kind of map a person comes in with, showing major life themes, people, career paths, lessons, and opportunities. According to Dave, if something is not in the chart, it is not likely to happen, but individuals still have choice in how they engage with what appears. The conversation also touches on reincarnation, soul lessons, and the possibility that difficult experiences may need to be faced again if they are not worked through. Violence, Disclosure, Aliens, and the State of the World Roman asks Dave whether the world is more violent than it used to be, and Dave says he believes people may simply hear about violence more because of instant news and social media. They also discuss astrology's connection to major historical cycles, including planetary alignments Dave connects with revolutionary periods. The conversation briefly moves into extraterrestrial life, with Dave saying he believes intelligent life exists elsewhere and that contact has likely already happened in some way. Roman and Dave discuss government disclosures, media manipulation, skepticism, intuition, and the need for discernment when interpreting public events. Caller Melanie, Grief, Charts, and Soul Lessons A caller named Melanie from Nevada joins the show and offers a reflection on timelessness, comparing it to flow states such as playing music and losing track of time. She asks Dave about choosing astrological reports, and he recommends starting with a natal chart if someone has never had their chart interpreted before. Melanie also discusses soul contracts, the death of her daughter, grief, choice points, suicide, and the possibility that souls may face lessons again if they leave before completing them. Dave agrees that suicide is overly stigmatized and says he has not seen evidence that people who die by suicide are condemned to hell or eternal darkness. He encourages a more compassionate understanding while still acknowledging that unresolved lessons may continue. Boundaries, Ethics, and Closing Reflections Near the end, Roman asks Dave whether he has ever refused to give someone a reading. Dave says he has, especially when someone is in such severe grief that they need counseling first, or when a person comes in only to challenge or test him rather than receive healing or evidence. He emphasizes that mediumship can support grief, but it does not replace counseling. Dave closes by telling listeners they can find him through The Astrology Store in Glendale, Arizona, where he offers medium readings, natal chart readings, forecasts, relationship readings, compatibility work, relocation readings, and group events. Roman thanks Dave, the caller, and the listeners, and signs off until the next second-Thursday broadcast.

Movie of the Year: 2006Slither The Slither Podcast Brings Body Horror to the 2006 BracketThe Slither podcast episode unleashes the first true horror movie on our Movie of the Year 2006 bracket. After opening the season with Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull Story, the Taste Buds trade metafiction for meteorites. Consequently, things get slimy fast. Ryan, Mike, and Greg welcome producer and festival programmer Drea Clark to dig into James Gunn's gleefully gross directorial debut. Together, the panel asks whether a movie full of alien slugs deserves a deep run in the bracket. Above all, they ask whether Slither has more on its mind than exploding deer and tentacled husbands.About the FilmSlither is a 2006 science fiction horror comedy written and directed by James Gunn. A meteorite crashes outside the small town of Wheelsy, South Carolina, carrying an alien parasite. The parasite infects wealthy local Grant Grant, played with squirming brilliance by Michael Rooker. Soon, Grant transforms into a tentacled monster, and slug-like creatures spread through the town. Meanwhile, police chief Bill Pardy (Nathan Fillion) and Grant's wife Starla (Elizabeth Banks) try to stop the invasion.Universal released the film on March 31, 2006. Notably, it flopped at the box office, grossing under $13 million against a $15 million budget. However, critics largely embraced it. Roger Ebert praised its Troma-loving spirit in his RogerEbert.com review, and the film became a cult favorite on home video. In addition, it launched the directing career that eventually gave us Guardians of the Galaxy and the new DC Universe.Guest Panelist: Drea ClarkThis week the Taste Buds welcome Drea Clark, a true film industry polymath. Drea co-hosts Maximum Film! on the Maximum Fun network, the long-running movie podcast she shares with film critic Alonso Duralde. Furthermore, her credentials behind the scenes run deep. She has served on the Sundance Film Festival programming team, led narrative feature programming at Slamdance for over a decade, spent ten years with the LA Film Festival, and curated Geena Davis's Bentonville Film Festival. As a producer, her features include The Last Time You Had Fun, Lake Los Angeles, and No Light and No Land Anywhere, the latter executive produced by Miranda July. In short, few guests are better equipped to judge a scrappy genre debut from a first time director.James Gunn as a First-Time FilmmakerBefore Slither, James Gunn was a writer with a strange resume. He cut his teeth at Troma on Tromeo and Juliet, then wrote the live action Scooby-Doo movies and the 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake. Consequently, Slither arrived as his first chance to direct his own material. The panel debates what the film reveals about Gunn as a filmmaker. Specifically, they trace the DNA that later shows up in Guardians of the Galaxy, The Suicide Squad, and Superman. The needle drops, the found family of misfits, and the sincere heart under the gross-out gags all start here. Moreover, Drea brings a programmer's eye to the question of how debut features signal a career to come.Sex and Violence on the Slither 2006 PodcastSlither earns its R rating with enthusiasm. The Taste Buds tackle how the film weaponizes both sex and violence, often in the same scene. Grant's infection plays like a grotesque infidelity story, and the alien's reproductive plans push body horror into genuinely uncomfortable territory. However, the violence stays cartoonish enough to keep the comedy alive. The panel asks where Gunn draws that line, and whether the bathtub scene, the barn scene, and that infamous bursting body still shock today. Ultimately, the conversation lands on a bigger question. Does the film use its excess for a purpose, or is the excess the point? Is Slither an Allegory?Every great monster movie smuggles in a meaning, or so the theory goes. Therefore, the panel puts Slither on the couch. Is the film an allegory for toxic marriage, with Grant's transformation literalizing a controlling husband? Is it about small town conformity, as a hive mind absorbs an entire community? By contrast, maybe Gunn simply loves slugs and explosions, and the search for subtext misses the joke. Drea, Ryan, Mike, and Greg each stake out a position. Nevertheless, the debate keeps circling back to Starla, whose arc gives the film its surprising emotional weight.TriviaNo Movie of the Year episode is complete without Trivia. This week's round digs into Slither's production and its B-movie family tree. Expect questions about the practical effects, the casting, and the film's connections to Troma legend Lloyd Kaufman, who cameos in the movie. Additionally, the segment tests whether the panel can untangle Slither from the movies it lovingly rips off, including Night of the Creeps and Shivers. Play along and see if you can outscore the Taste Buds.Dream Blunt RotationNew season, new games. In Dream Blunt Rotation, the panel assembles the ultimate smoke circle from the world of Slither. Which characters make the cut, and which get left outside the garage? Mayor Jack MacReady seems like a chaotic invite, while Bill Pardy might be the chillest hang in Wheelsy. Meanwhile, the conversation drifts toward the cast and crew themselves. Listen to find out who earns a spot in the rotation and whose vibes get vetoed.Awards and RecommendationsThe episode closes with Awards and Recommendations, the segment where the Taste Buds hand out honors to the film's cast, crew, and creatures. Nominees this week range from Michael Rooker's fearless physical performance to the effects team behind the slugs. As a result, expect passionate cases and at least one baffling pick. The winners stay a surprise, so you will have to listen for the results. Afterward, the panel shares recommendations for what to watch next if Slither leaves you hungry for more horror comedy. Why Slither Still MattersTwenty years later, Slither looks like a turning point hiding in plain sight. It kept practical creature effects alive at a moment when Hollywood was abandoning them. Furthermore, it proved that horror comedy could carry real emotion, a balance Gunn has chased ever since. The film's box office failure also tells a story about 2006 itself, a year when audiences ignored a future superstar director. In practice, the Slither podcast episode asks the question this whole season exists to answer. Does cult status and influence make a movie a contender for the best film of 2006? Listen and judge for yourself.Related Episodes from Movie of the Year: 2006Movie of the Year: 2006 — Intro, Part 1Movies of 2006: The Bracket RevealTristram Shandy: A Cock and Bull StoryAll Movie of the Year episodesFAQ: Slither Podcast and FilmWhat is this episode of the Slither podcast about?Ryan, Mike, and Greg debate whether James Gunn's Slither deserves to advance in the Movie of the Year 2006 bracket. He mutates into a tentacled monster while slug-like creatures take over the town. But the movie sets up a father-son arc about masculinity and emotional bravery, then resolves it with a half-hearted deathbed forgiveness scene that changes nothing. It gestures at He-Man's campy legacy and then gets embarrassed by it. It makes Adam an HR rep with empathy skills, then turns those skills into a punchline. The movie knew what it wanted to say. It just didn't have the nerve to say it.We also get into the full Mattel pipeline — Polly Pocket, Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots, Magic 8-Ball as a horror comedy — and the nostalgia properties we'd actually pay to see: Gummi Bears, Darkwing Duck, and what Scooby-Doo keeps getting right that everyone else gets wrong.Full Show Notes and Resources**************************************************************************This episode is a production of Superhero Ethics, an Ethical Panda podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. Today Loz told us about a very exciting reunion/sequel that's finally in the works and to keep us on track as always, Producer Kieran threw a spanner in the works by bringing up a Scooby-Doo prequel (which we're also excited about). Tommy also told us that he wants to go to Russia. Well, that he wants to stop over in Krasnoyarsk, Russia to then get somewhere else. We weren't sure if now is the best time to be visiting Russia so we did some research to see if this is something he could be safe to do. Scooby-Doo is officially back, and this time he is a real dog. Netflix just dropped the first teaser for its live-action origin series, Scooby-Doo: Origins, and the big reveal is an impossibly cute Great Dane puppy stepping into the role for the first time in franchise history. This episode runs through everything we know so far, starting with that puppy reveal and moving into the full Mystery Inc. lineup. The cast is stacked with Netflix talent. McKenna Grace takes on Daphne, Tanner Hagen plays Shaggy, Abby Ryder Fortson is Velma, and Maxwell Jenkins, fresh off Lost in Space, lands the role of Fred Jones. From there the breakdown covers the full premise, a final summer at camp, an orphaned puppy who may be the only witness to a supernatural murder, and a creepy mystery that threatens to expose everyone's secrets. The tone reads very Riverdale, which raises an eyebrow, but Netflix earned some goodwill with Wednesday, so there is real reason for optimism. Filming has been underway in Atlanta since April, the show arrives sometime in 2027, and yes, that means Scooby will be a big boy by the time it premieres.00:00 Scooby-Doo Returns Live Action00:15 Meet the Mystery Inc. Cast00:25 The Real Puppy Scooby Reveal00:33 Reading the Full Premise01:00 Riverdale Comparison, Atlanta Filming, and 2027 ReleaseNetflix's live action series is officially titled Scooby-Doo: Origins and tells the story of how Mystery Inc. first came together. For the first time in franchise history, Scooby-Doo is played by a real dog rather than animation or CGI.The cast features McKenna Grace as Daphne, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma, and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones. The premise centers on a final summer at camp, an orphaned Great Dane puppy, and a possible supernatural murder the puppy may have witnessed. The Riverdale-style tone is a question mark, but Netflix's track record with Wednesday is a point in its favor.Production has been filming in Atlanta since April 2026, with a release set for sometime in 2027."It's a puppy version of it and it's so freaking cute.""Clearly I'm a dog guy.""Feels very Riverdale style. Comparing it to Riverdale kind of worries me, but Netflix did really good Wednesday.""We'll see how big Scooby gets by the time the actual show comes out. Writer/Director BRIAN LEVANT takes us behind the scenes with Steven Spielberg, Bill Hanna, Joe Barbera, John Goodman, and the 1994 box office smash The Flintstones, its sequel and two Scooby-Doo films. (Also, Brian continues with the story of TV's Happy Days on the POP Culture Podcast.)
This week on This Can't Be Real with Brad, humanity once again proves we are absolutely not ready for adulthood. Brad breaks down the story of a man who trusted his GPS so much that he drove his car straight into a lake while his wife sat there questioning every life decision that led to that moment. Then things get even messier when a wedding reception turns into full-on WrestleMania after an argument escalates into flying cake, screaming relatives, and Uncle Randy apparently wearing buttercream like a crown. And finally, Brad reacts to a criminal mastermind who successfully broke into a store… only to accidentally lock himself inside and basically turn his robbery into an overnight stay next to the beef jerky aisle.Along the way, Brad rants about Apple Maps, old-school paper maps, drunk wedding uncles, Scooby-Doo villains, and why technology should never completely replace common sense. In the end, the “most bonkers” award goes to the GPS guy — because trusting a screen over literal water is next-level terrifying.

We've been asking the question for a while now - who will be Bond, James Bond? The search officially begins. It's anyone's guess who has been been asking for a Betty Boop movie, but we're getting one. To our surprise, both Will Smith and James Franco have landed new roles, and Tom Hardy has been fired from Mobland. We share our thoughts on Schwarzenegger returning as Conan, the much anticipated release date for Marvel's Vision Quest, and Scooby Doo heading to Tubi.

While "just the facts" might be one way to ask questions, it's certainly not the ONLY way. And, if you're not careful, your interviewing style could get you all the wrong answers. This week we're joined by Dr. Ray Joslyn to discuss ALL the behavior analytic research there is on forensic interviewing. Is it the way we ask the questions or our responses to answers that influence accuracy the most? Are children or adults the most impacted by misleading statements? And did Scooby Doo really eat that ice cream cone? Are you sure? Hmm...ok, if you say so. This episode is available for 1.0 LEARNING CEU. Brian Onishi and Jeff Stoyanoff discuss Toni Morrison's Pulitzer Prize–winning Beloved as a haunted house and ghost story that forces readers to reckon with the historical traumas of chattel slavery, racism, and the “smooth operation” of a world that treats people like property. They outline the novel's core cast—Sethe, Baby Suggs, Denver, Paul D, and the embodied apparition Beloved—alongside figures like Schoolteacher, noting the book's basis in the real story of Margaret Garner and its depiction of lynching, abuse, and infanticide.Drawing on scholarship and concepts such as rememory, spectrality, and Gothic tradition, they argue Morrison rejects easy “Scooby-Doo” reveals or exorcism in favor of communal acknowledgement and reintegration, supporting their broader claim that America itself is haunted while asking how, and whether, joy can be found in such horror.
