ManOverbored and friends! Cartoon Network's Adult Swim star/murderer William Tokarsky joins the show and agrees to send a photo of himself in a pink bra to listeners who donate to the Australian fire relief, and Turtle sits in with the whole Gang and talks about the time he got gonorrhea!
Cartoon Network's Adult Swim and film actor William Tokarsky stops by to chat with the MOB gang, female astronauts call of a spacewalk because they didn't feel pretty enough, and one man learns the hard way that you can't order a hotdog at a Mexican restaurant.
This is a special bonus~! episode of the podcast, where we pay tribute and briefly discuss the impact of C. Martin Croker, animator, voice actor, and vital part of Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block. RIP C. Martin Croker, 1962-2016
In August, cartoonist Aaron McGruder, creator of the infamous Boondocks comic strip and cartoon series will premier a new show titled "Black Jesus" on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim time slot. The comedy parody show features a live action series of Jesus as a black man in Compton, CA. This show has brought about good and negative publicity for AS and McGruder, but how should black pastors engage the show and the viewers? Is the show any more offensive than Jesus Christ Superstar, Tyler Perry's Madea series, or even George Burns' O God movie series?
Today on maDCap, we mark the auspicious date of 4/20 with a show for all ents (don't know what an ent is? Bing that shit.) First, Cartoon Network's Adult Swim is ground zero for baked TV viewing, and we'll speak with the force behind one of their latest hit shows. Justin Roiland is the co-creator, writer and voice actor of 'Rick and Morty' on Adult Swim. David learned about the struggles of the creative process and the show's wild ass content from the California native. Then, while Cali has been on the forefront of prescribing medicinal marijuana for nearly two decades, but as of 2009, Washington DC has been in the game too. We'll close today's show with the proprietor of the only licensed medicinal marijuana dispensary north of Downtown, Takoma Wellness Center. It may sound like a yoga studio, but the only tree pose you'll find there is of the sticky-icky variety. And who runs this haven of herbal remedies? None other than Rabbi...yes Rabbi Jeffrey Kahn, whom we spoke to on the week of passover. He tells us about his personal journey, religious philosophy, and give a history of cannabis in America. Happy 4/20 friends, remember to puff-puff-pass, and stay safe out there. Love, maDCap *Special thanks to our favorite disembodied voice, Jill Holbrook. madcapdc.org twitter.com/madcapdc fb.com/madcapdc -- twitter.com/justinroiland twitter.com/rickandmorty twitter.com/adultswim.com rickandmorty.com -- takomawellness.com twitter.com/takomawellness fb.com/takomawellness
With 4/20 approaching, we visit with Justin Roiland, co-creator of 'Rick and Morty' on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, then a talk Rabbi...yes, Rabbi Jeffrey Kahn, the proprietor of Takoma Wellness Center, a medicinal marijuana dispensary in Washington DC.
We at maDCap believe in honoring African Americans at all times, but we view the proposition of Black History Month with a skeptical eye. Confining Black History to February not only relegates African American history to the shortest month of the year, but it may serve to justify a lack of attention during the rest of the year. Despite our misgivings, today we discuss one of the baddest Black characters on television. Our guest is Carl Jones, the creator and executive producer of Black Dynamite on Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. We will also hear the voices of prominent African Americans on the topic of Black History Month, and finally, we’re treated to a commentary in the form of an airing of grievances from our own David Ross. Season 2 of Black Dynamite on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim premieres in Summer of 2014. Julien "Jules" Koetsch joins John Holt, and Mary Varn to discuss the next two picks from our "Cult/Fringe" theme. ___________ Segment 1: "Dark Night of the Soul" by Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse, w/David Lynch (2010 album) John (@lordjoho) brings us an album from the late Mark Linkous, AKA Sparklehorse, in collaboration with DangerMouse and featuring David Lynch. The Album had a rocky release, with a series of legal entanglements and the apparent suicide of Sparklehorse, it seemed that the project would stay unofficially released. Thankfully the album found release and you can now find it digitally on iTunes, Rdio, Spotify. As well as in hardcopy. _________________ Segment 2: "Garth Marenghi's Darkplace" (2004 television show) Keith Vincent (earthlingkeith.com) wasn't able to join us for the record, but he did offer us a great pick for the "Cult/Fringe" theme. This British comedy series from 2004 is a fake bad 80's tv show by a fake bad horror novelist, with fake commentary from the fake novelist and the fake producer. Left to Right- Matt Berry, Richard Ayoade, Matt Holness, Alice Lowe. Currently the DVD isn't for sale in a US Region. It aired briefly on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. You can purchase a Region 2 version online, but you can't play that in most DVD players. ______________________ You can follow us on twitter @newtoyoushow and you can leave comments down below! Join us next week for picks from a new theme "Better than the Original."
If you've seen "Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!" on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, then you're well acquainted with how virtually impossible it is to describe. Imagine sketch comedy in the vein of "Mr. Show," Andy Kaufman's confrontational brand of anti-humor, and video effects that look ripped from a Soviet-era infomercial produced by an autistic David Lynch-and you've still failed. Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim met as film students at Temple University in Philadelphia, where they discovered that they really didn't care all that much for being film students and started making videos just to amuse themselves. A typical example of this early work features the duo dressed up as Batman & Robin, taking massive bong hits, and flying over the ocean with John McCain at their side. "Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!" jumps mercilessly from commercial parodies for products such as "The Poop Tube" to synth-laden musical numbers performed by a hideously deformed and vomiting little boy, with a whole host of slightly creepy social satire and spasm-inducing montages in between. They're somehow going to be performing all of this live in Lawrence. Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim took some time out from filming their third season to uncomfortably disseminate misinformation with us about the "Awesome Tour 2008!"
Welcome to Kid Power Radio. I’m your host Max and each week I review what’s happening on TV, at the movies, books and music I like ….You get the idea. This is a really special show... we have a person who works at Cartoon Network on my show. Let’s just start the show, shall we... This week on Cartoon Network… This is it the moment you’ve been waiting for in the last 18 seconds...David from Cartoon Network's Adult Swim and Creator and Star of Aqua Teen HungerForce and Squidbillies. Listen to the show and hear David's answers to these questions and more...David's shows are on Adult Swim and I only can watch them when my mom or dad is watching them with me. But we talked mostly about how he got interested in animation and how he does his shows and other cool stuff. Here's what we talked about. Okay, first thing first...do you want me to call you Dave or David? Let’s start the interviewing questions... What cartoons did you watch as a kid? When you were a kid did you like Mickey Mouse or Bugs Bunny? Do you like The Simpsons? My favorite show on Cartoon Network is The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy what’s yours? How did you get started as a voiceover at Cartoon Network? Where and how do you record the show? Are all the people in the same room when you record? You’re the voice of Meatwad on Aqua Teen Hunger Force-How did you figure out how Meatwad would sound? What other cartoon voiceovers have you done? How did you learn to do different voices? Do you draw any of the characters on the show? This is the final question... Could you say, in a Meatwad voice, "I just loved being on Kid Power Radio?" Thanks and goodbye Name That Tune Tristan emailed me the answer to the Name That Tune last week Great job Tristan Here’s this week. In the movie news... I saw UnderDog and it was really good. Good effects, Good graphics, Good well, everything was good. It’s totally kid friendly. You’re whole family will love it. I give it 4 stars, 2 thumbs up, and an A+ If you go and see it you’ll love it. Listener Question... Okay so I’ve been getting lots of emails from 3 people and they all say they’re my number 1 fan!!! We have Tristan from England, Courtney from Australia, and Eli from Georgia. Now I cannot have 3 number 1 fans I mean that’s the point of "#1 Fan" So I have decided to do the Kid Power Radio #1 Fan Email Challenge These are the rules... You tell your friends to vote for you as my number 1 fan at RadioStarMax at Yahoo.com...You cannot vote for yourself and if you do I won’t count that vote... After 2 weeks I will announce the winner. Good luck to Eli, Courtney, and Tristan. Thanks everyone for sending in emails. You all are now official members of the Kid Power Radio Street Team. Your job is to tell all your friends about the show and if they email me they could get a special shout out just like you did. And special thanks to David from Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Squidbillies for being on my show Remember, you can email me at RADIO STAR MAX at YAHOO.COM That’s it for now. See you next week. Bye.
