Watt willse denn in Duisburg? – Angucken! The Dropout" / "Dying for Sex").

A 7-11 on Liberty Heights Avenue in Northwest Baltimore, Maryland, has become a flashpoint of community rage and resistance after Ade Oba Tokunbo (Stephen King), a 74-year-old resident, was attacked and brutally beaten there by six teenagers on July 7, 2026. The same location is also the site of multiple robberies and the murder of Victorious Swift in March of 2017. In response, “A Clarion Call,” a new coalition of local community organizations and residents, organized a rally at the 7-11 on Sunday, July 26, and led a community march into the store to demand the company implement policies that will keep customers safe and aid in the apprehension of the youth responsible for the July 7 attack. What does the world's most prolific cybercrime operation look like from the inside? And why does it operate suspiciously like a mid-sized tech company, complete with HR headaches, salary negotiations, and a distracted boss nobody respects? Ron Eddings sits down with investigative journalist and author, Geoff White, who has spent over 20 years covering cybercrime for the BBC, Channel 4 News, and Sky News. Geoff has read 47,000 of Conti's 300,000 leaked internal chats, the gang that dominated the ransomware world in 2021 and 2022, pulling in hundreds of millions of dollars in ransoms. From the Moscow movie studio the gang's leader used to launder money years previously, to the Ukraine war leak that brought the whole Conti empire down, this one plays like true crime… because it is. Geoff makes the case that defenders should think the same way: you're not buying security tools to fend off a hoodie in a basement, you're investing to outcompete a rival business. All Hail Computer Overlord! Our casual adventurers have been tasked by the benevolent Computer Overlord to watch three episodes of Star Trek featuring societies run by computers to make sure Computer Overlord isn't offended. In ‘Return of the Archons', Kirk and the Gang are here for the Festival and for the first time, we get to see Captain Kirk talk a computer to death, then we return YET AGAIN to season One of TNG as Wesley and some of the Enterprise kids get kidnapped by an ancient civilisation led by Deep Throat from The X-Files to be given some new parents in ‘When the Bough Breaks,' and finally Boimler discovers if he's going to be a good boss or a bad boss when he's tasked to lead a repair team ‘In the Cradle of Vexilon.' All Hail Computer Overlord, the cake is a lie! EPISODES DISCUSSED: ‘Return of the Archons' (12:17) ‘When the Bough Breaks' (42:53) ‘In the Cradle of Vexilon' (1:11:58) Talking Points Include: The Princess Bride, the Evercade Superpocket, Jeff Minter, classic computer games, creepy vibes right from the get-go, what is Festival actuallY for? These guys are the crappiest resistance movement, Lindstrom- the hot new Star Trek character find of 1966, Kirk being the most Internet Guy here in talking a computer to death, that one guy wants to use Festival to jump through windows, I think we're going to run out of S1 episodes of TNG before anything else, Kylie Minogue, TNG needed more freeze-frame endings, we hate AI, you might have guessed, we really needed an episode of TNG which was basically Chopping Mall on the Enterprise, the whole ‘families on the Enterprise' thing sometimes just feels weird, Wesley has definitely called Captain Picard ‘dad' by accident, nice to see Jerry Hardin here pre-X-Files, koala, we just have a soft spot for ‘Move Along Home,' have you ever been a Boimler? T'lyn is here to eff with Boimler, would people in the 24th Century haze others? [ Additional Show Notes ] Music by Alfred Etheridge-Nunn. Read Miles's blog or Charlie's blog. Thirty-six years ago, the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed into law, guaranteeing civil rights for millions of Americans. But the movement that made that day possible began years earlier. One pivotal victory was won by a small, often-forgotten group of activists in Denver known as the "Gang of 19."On The Sunday Story, NPR's Joseph Shapiro and Colorado Public Radio's Stephanie Wolf trace the history of the disability rights movement—from the protests that secured accessible public transit to the modern-day fight to protect the hard-won right to live independently. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for sponsorship and to manage your podcast sponsorship preferences.NPR Privacy Policy

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!This week Pip is joined by longtime podcast and life friends CHRIS & STU & KUNT for a roundtable episode!Quick catch-up if you're new to the show (trigger warning for repeated "kunt" usage): Chris & Stu host the Hardcore Listing podcast, Stu does Off The Beat & Track and a ton of others, and Kunt is the frontman of the band Kunt & The Gang. Stu and Kunt also do the Acceptable In The 80's podcast. Pip, Chris & Stu form together to do the 'DrunkCast' episodes of Distraction Pieces, where they drink and generate like 5+ whole hour long episodes. So there we go!Now we're all on the same page, here is the hypersquad teamup (minus booze) to chat about the hardest kids in school. Whether you remember them from back in the days (whatever era), or you're familiar with them right now if you're in school at the moment, this roundtable chat will ring bells with you for sure. For those who've led a charmed tough-kid-free life and are over 40, think Gripper Stebson from Grange Hill. There are definitely worse than that but we're using shorthand here! Names have been shortened or indeed redacted, but the memories are mostly clear and chances are that you'll start to recall the kids from your school as the episode unfurls. Or maybe you were the hard kid yourself. Which leads us to the existential side-quest - does a hard kid know they're a hard kid? One to consider. Enjoy! PS: the catchup at the start is mainly due to those unfamiliar with the entire cast here - cos you'll be hearing the word Kunt over about 80-90 minutes more than you might have before. As alwyas with these ones, go steady if you're playing it out loud in a situation with younger fam-folk! Give to help Chris make Truce Jimmy Swaggart was caught in a major controversy in the late 1980s. It involved the famous American televangelist, who was a leading figure in Pentecostal Christianity. In 1988, Swaggart publicly admitted to “moral failure” after reports surfaced that he had been involved with a prostitute, behavior that directly contradicted the strict moral standards he preached. The revelation led to his suspension by the Assemblies of God, his church denomination, and caused significant damage to his reputation and ministry. Swaggart delivered a widely televised, tearful confession, which became one of the most memorable moments in religious broadcasting, symbolizing broader concerns at the time about hypocrisy, accountability, and power among high-profile televangelists. This proved to be a problem for Pat Robertson, who was running for president. Just as he needed his conservative brothers and sisters on his side... they disappeared or chose another politician. When he lost the race, he continued his streak of being shelved by politicians. He and other evangelicals with large followings placed their hope in politicians to save them. Who Controls What You're Allowed to Believe? Ashley Rindsberg on Wikipedia, Google, AI Bias & the Hidden Information War Investigative journalist Ashley Rindsberg uncovers documented left-leaning bias baked into Wikipedia, a secretive list deciding which outlets count as "reliable," and a money trail touching the world's most powerful political networks and elite global foundations and NGO's. Inside this episode (don't miss): How Wikipedia and Google quietly decide what you're "allowed" to see first on almost any topic — and how one anonymous editor allegedly wrote the rulebook for which sources get trusted and which get blacklisted. How Trump gets labeled an "authoritarian" while actual authoritarian regimes get soft-pedaled — and how Clinton-linked networks and Soros-funded activism allegedly help supercharge that double standard. The Wikimedia Foundation's 2016 pivot into a DEI-branded "social justice" project, and its ties to major political operatives, Clinton-adjacent infrastructure, and activist funding pipelines. The billion-dollar cottage industry of paid editors and "reputation managers" who can lock, rewrite, and curate reality — while public figures can't even correct basic facts about themselves. How entries sourced from Iranian state outlets and Chinese state media make it onto Wikipedia as "reliable" — while outlets like the Daily Mail get blacklisted entirely. How platforms like Al Jazeera, rated a reliable source on Wikipedia despite Qatari state ownership, are feeding directly into the AI tools you use every day — shaping what those tools present to you as neutral fact. Why ordinary people — including Jillian herself — say they can't get false information about them corrected, and what the law actually allows. This isn't just about an encyclopedia. It's about who shapes what an entire generation is told is true, while almost no one is watching it happen.

The UK government has become so ideologically captured, they will need to rewrite a 1971 law before they can deport Shabir Ahmed, ringleader of the Rochdale child grooming gang who was set free on early release this month. Nick Freitas, retired Green Beret and author of The Manbook, just returned from the UK and tells Dr. Drew how a once-great country ended up with a two-tier justice system. Ahmed was sentenced in 2012 to 22 years for multiple offenses as the leader of a gang that targeted girls in Rochdale. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood said that to deport Ahmen, first the UK government must change Section 7 of the Immigration Act 1971, which currently shields Commonwealth nationals who arrived before 1973 from removal. Nick explains what institutional capture looks like when protecting a narrative outranks protecting children. Also on today's show: Wynton Hall — managing editor of Breitbart News and author of CODE RED: The Left, the Right, China, and the Race to Control AI — on the US-China AI arms race. Hall argues that as the US restricts its most powerful models over safety concerns, China is racing ahead and using American AI tools to run influence operations. Nick Freitas is the author of The Manbook: A Point-by-Point Guide to Sucking It Up and Getting the Job Done. Sabu Stanley grew up in Brooklyn and lost his father to cancer as a child. His mother kept him grounded and out of trouble — until she passed from cancer too. Without her the streets of Brooklyn became his family. His first run in with the law sent him to Rikers Island where he became a Blood. Gang life eventually led to a 16 year sentence in New York State prison. The men and women of ICE don't spend their days pulling over soccer moms on the way to practice. They're hunting some of the most dangerous people in America. Gang members. Drug traffickers. Human smugglers. Criminal illegal aliens who have no business being in this country. Now, after a few deadly ICE involved shootings, the agency is pausing vehicle stops. That's the wrong move. These are highly trained federal agents who conduct thousands of vehicle stops each year. The overwhelming majority, virtually every single one, ends peacefully and professionally. But when you're chasing violent criminals, danger comes with the job. Evil doesn't surrender politely. If ICE backs away from proactive enforcement, who benefits? Not law abiding Americans. Not the victims of illegal alien crime. The only winners are the fugitives who now know they have one less reason to fear getting caught. You don't make America safer by telling law enforcement to stop enforcing the law. You make America more dangerous by giving criminals another opportunity to disappear. We're going to explain why this policy sends exactly the wrong message, why it emboldens those here illegally, and why America cannot afford to let politics dictate how our immigration laws are enforced. Stories of resistance from three places: Denver, Colorado where the Gang of 19 put their bodies on the line for the right to use public transportation. Montgomery, Alabama, where a song quietly galvanized generations. And finally, on broadcast TV, where a 1966 prime-time show inspired Americans to dream bigger. To access bonus episodes and listen to Throughline sponsor-free, subscribe to Throughline+ via Apple Podcasts or at plus.npr.org/throughline.See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for sponsorship and to manage your podcast sponsorship preferences.NPR Privacy Policy
