Up for the MatchOff on Sunday morning to Croke Park. Dark skies. Lots of grey clouds. Our journey was delayed by Féile An Phobail's 5km and 10km run. Diverted and distracted we eventually got out of West Belfast and on the road to Dublin. Enroute the dark skies lightened. The grey clouds gave way to blue heavens and gentle sunshine. We were off to watch Antrim's Lady Footballers in our own All Ireland against Louth. As we crossed the Border KneeCap kept our spirits high. Their ceol blasted out and the car rocked as we hip hopped to the Capital. A morning after the night before follow-on from Saturday evening's Falls Park Country frolicks.The match in Croker started off positively with Antrim taking an early lead but Louth soon asserted themselves and Antrim was chasing the game from then until the last ten minutes. Some of the players may have been overwhelmed by the big occasion.  If so who could blame them? To play in Croke is mighty and Antrim supporters were out in strength. Everyone, including us, as proud as could be.  Family members, club mates. The number of Northern Gaels was swelled by Tyrone supporters who later went on to win their championship against Laois. Dublin went on to best Meath in the Seniors. A great day of Gaelic football.Gaza – An Gorta Mór – The StarvationThe scenes of desperation as starving people in Gaza try to get basins or pots filled with soup, are shocking images. It is a famine we are told. Last week the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), a United Nations panel which had long warned of the threat of famine, concluded that it was now a reality.The use of the word ‘famine' and the images of starving children are a reminder for many in Ireland of what life must have been like during An Gorta Mór in the 1840s. But it is important to note that in a famine there is no food. In Ireland there was plenty of food. During those years the quaysides of ports along our coast were lined each day with abundant produce - all bound for export. It was a starvation.The hunger in Gaza is an Israeli made starvation. Aid agencies and the UN have more than enough food and medical aid ready to enter Gaza. Israel prevents this. It is not a famine – it is a starvationOrangism in the New IrelandThe northern statelet was built for unionism. It was constructed and then managed in a way to ensure that nationalists would never have a say in running the place.We are less than three years off the 30th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement. Most citizens, and many within the broad unionist section of our people, have grown accustomed to the stability and peace it has brought but there are others who still hanker after the old days of supremacy. The DUP shares the office of the First Minister with Sinn Féin but their strategy is focused on the next Assembly election in two years' time and their aim is to remove Michelle O'Neill as First Minister. That is why there is a battle a day over Irish language rights. That is why there has been no start on building the new Casement. That is why there is negative nonsense over bi-lingual signage in public places.

All-Ireland hurling final week is here and The Echo Sport Podcast has you covered ahead of the eagerly-awaited showdown between Cork and Tipperary at Croke Park. The pressure on the Cork hurlers certainly isn't letting up after the dominant force of the modern game was sent crashing out against Dublin. In one of the biggest shocks in the history of hurling, the third-place team in Leinster, 12-1 complete outsiders with the bookies, beat Limerick and did so despite getting a red card after 15 minutes. The stunning reversal means Cork now take on the Dubs on July 5 in the All-Ireland semi-final instead of Tipp, with the expectation now they'll go all the way and finally regain Liam MacCarthy. The podcast crew break down Dublin's victory and discuss how Cork can keep focused for the trip to Croke Park on Saturday week. Tipp take on Kilkenny in the other semi and you can be sure both of those counties are just as thrilled Limerick have been taken out early. On the football front, there's a reflection on the footballers' very strong showing against Dessie Farrell's Dublin that didn't yield the reward it deserved. It was a familiar sceál for the Cork football faithful, a good game against an All-Ireland contender but not a knockout victory. John Cleary's term is now officially ended but he wouldn't say after the loss in Croker if he'd be seeking another season in 2026. There is a shortage of viable replacements but Cleary might not want another year dealing with the stress and expectation on Leeside. There were highs and lows across the past four seasons and a mixed championship record which featured a few very close calls against the bigger guns, especially Kerry. Plus the Echo team pick out the winners and losers after the final round of the Cork football leagues, albeit with Clon v Castlehaven on hold to decide the Division 1 finalists. Walkovers were a disappointing aspect to the concluding weekend, with another round of hurling to go as well. The Cork footballers saved their season with a gritty performance in Portlaoise to beat Roscommon over the weekend but their reward is a very tough preliminary quarter-final against Dublin.While Meath and Armagh have beaten the Boys in Blue already this summer, John Cleary's charges will need to produce a season-best to progress to the last eight.We reflect on the victory over the Rossies which was spearheaded by Colm O'Callaghan, Ian Maguire, Mark Cronin and Seán McDonnell, who kicked 0-4 in a tight game. Keeper Micheál Aodh Martin came up with some big plays as well, saving a goal chance at a critical stage and pushing out a dangerous dropping ball for a 45 in the dying minutes.It was heart-stopping stuff, with Roscommon hunting a two-pointer to knock Cork out as time elapsed as Brian O'Driscoll, Seán Brady and Daniel O'Mahony defended brilliantly.What can they improve on for their Croke Park trip though?Plus we reflect on a disappointing All-Ireland minor hurling semi-final exit for Cork against Clare.Fergal McCormack's side had beaten the Banner en route to a Munster title but a four-week break since that provincial success might have been an issue with Clare far sharper throughout. In this episode, I sit down with Tanner Kim and Sean Croker, two college seniors from the University of Tennessee who founded The League of Angels, a baseball program for kids with special needs. What started as a small weekend event for 30 people has exploded to serving nearly 900 individuals in just one year. These young entrepreneurs share how they balance college life, future career plans, and running a nonprofit while living on "the Lord's timing." Tanner reveals the moment in church when he felt called to start this organization despite having no prior connection to the special needs community, and Sean explains how a coffee meeting turned into a life-changing partnership. They share powerful stories about watching participants hit their first home runs and seeing volunteers' perspectives completely transformed. We also dig into the challenges of fundraising, the pressure young people face to have everything figured out, and how to move forward in faith while actively pursuing your calling. I then returned home to Knoxville, TN, and decided to hang up my cleats and enrolled at the University of Tennessee as a full-time student. Shortly thereafter, I felt a strong calling to refocus my baseball talents and start a baseball foundation for individuals with special needs while attending my junior year...and this is where the "League of Angels" was born. I wanted to give back and share the game I love with people who may not have had the same opportunities I was blessed with.
