Join Opie and Ron for a wild ride in this episode as they celebrate Opie’s birthday with oceanfront dreams of barbecues, bikinis, and rock music during Memorial Day weekend. The duo dives into city frustrations—dog poison scares, brutal traffic, and overpriced Knicks playoff tickets favoring celebrities like Lenny Kravitz over hardcore fans. They break down NBA playoff predictions (OKC vs. Pacers), dissect a bizarre Mexican naval ship crash into the Brooklyn Bridge, and revisit Andy Kaufman’s epic trolling. Things get cosmic as Ron spins theories on alien DNA, Atlanteans creating minotaurs, and the one-electron universe, while Opie grounds the convo with skepticism and a nod to his dad’s pig valve transplant. From YouTube’s touchy medical rules to rants about one-hit-wonder Seal, this episode is a chaotic blend of personal anecdotes, hot takes, and mind-bending tangents. Don’t miss Opie’s emotional plan to witness a seal release and their nostalgic nod to satellite radio’s free-speech days!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Not Ready for Prime Time Podcast: The Early Years of SNL
Its sweeps month in 1979, and SNL pulls out all the stops with Charlie's Angels star Kate Jackson as host and Delbert McClinton as musical guest. Yes, you read that last part correctly.A very memorable episode (though perhaps not for the best reasons), this outing of Saturday Night Live takes a distinctly "meta" approach with Jackson frequently playing herself throughout the night. Though when she does get the chance to play actual characters, she pulls it off quite nicely. The episode leans heavily on familiar territory, featuring recognizable faces and sets at every turn - in fact, nearly every segment (including one from the musical guest) incorporates a previous sketch, character, or performance from the show.Speaking of recurring characters, this episode marks the farewell appearance of The Coneheads. But don't despair—we're also treated to the return of the unpredictable Andy Kaufman, bringing his unique brand of comedy back to 8H.---------------------------------Subscribe today!Follow us on social media: X (Twitter): NR4PTProjectBluesky: nr4ptproject.bsky.socialInstagram: nr4ptprojectFacebook: The Not Ready for Prime Time ProjectContact Us: Website: https://www.nr4project.comEmail: nr4ptproject@gmail.com

When Lynne Margulies was 25 years old, she met Andy Kaufman on the set of the film My Breakfast with Blassie. Two years later, just shortly before he died, Andy made Lynne promise she would keep his work alive. With the release of the new documentary Thank You Very Much, Lynne talks with Marc about fulfilling that promise over the decades by showcasing Andy's comedy and also allowing the myths about him to persist. They also talk about Andy's inspirations and why professional wrestling was a foundational part of his personality. You probably think of a hammock as that flimsy sheet of cloth you string between two trees. The thing that when you get in it you either look lazy and pretentious or you simply flip over and fall to the ground losing what little dignity you have. Well, this is hammock season in show business. It's the time between the big holiday blockbusters and the big summer action movie blockbusters. Judging by the most recent box-office results people are wise to this and very few people are venturing out to the theaters right now. Maybe they're streaming, who really knows? Nonetheless, we've had a look at some of your entertainment options. We start with "The Studio" which follows a legacy Hollywood movie studio striving to survive in a world where it is increasingly difficult for art and business to live together. So it goes and hires someone played by Seth Rogen. We've all seen it and we'll let you know if it's worth your time, Then there's the controversial live action version of "Snow White" starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot. Way too much has been written about it but Bill Bregoli actually ventured out to see it. He's the only one of us brave enough. Bill McCuddy tells us about "Thank You Very Much," which is a documentary about performance artist and "song and dance man" Andy Kaufman. Neil Rosen, who likes to follow around people who wear tuxedos, tells us about "The Penguin Lessons" and his conversation with star Steve Coogan. For spy movie fans we have "Black Bag" from director Stephen Soderbergh which stars Michael Fassbender and Cate Blanchett. For streaming folks there's "Toxic Town" which is based on a true story and stars Jodie Whittaker and Aime Lou Wood. Aimee is also in the current season of "White Lotus" so naturally we drift off into a conversation about that. We also talk about a controversy surrounding Johnny Carson's couch and Bill M tells us about his conversation with Alec Baldwin. So even if none of what Hollywood is offering right now interests you at least you've got us to listen to.
Matthew Socey reviews the film The Penguin Lesson and the Andy Kaufman documentary Thank You Very Much. Plus, films on video inspired by another podcast.
The new documentary “Thank You Very Much” takes a look at the life of groundbreaking comedian and performer Andy Kaufman, a man whose work has always defied expectations. Director Alex Braverman discusses the film, which includes rarely-seen footage of Kaufman and opens in theaters tomorrow. This conversation is guest-hosted by Tiffany Hansen.
On this week's episode, we look at the ultimate song and dance man, Andy Kaufman, and the new documentary about him, Thank You Very Much, directed by this week's guest, Alex Braverman. We discussed Alex's parents working on the filming of Andy Kaufman's Carnegie Hall stage show and how Alex discovered Andy through that VHS sitting on his parent's shelf, how most of Andy's comedy was infused with music, Tony Clifton, Andy's skill at wasting valuable network TV time, the incredible footage of Andy with the Maharishi and asking him about comedy, how Andy was happiest when the audience was against him, his congo playing skills, what shaped Andy's humor, his comedy partner Bob Zmuda, his appearance on The Midnight Special and Fridays, the has-been corner, Andy busing tables at Jerry's Deli at the height of his career, Andy taking everyone out for milk and cookies after the Carnegie Hall show, the scoring of the documentary by Chris Bear of Grizzly Bear & Alessandro Cortini of Nine Inch Nails, his turn as a wrestling villain, Andy's devotion to Transcendental Meditation, Laurie Anderson's friendship & stage partnership with Andy, our favorite Andy Kaufman moments, how Andy was a great fake crier and more! So, in honor of Andy, let's beat on the congas two more times on this week's episode of Revolutions Per Movie.ALEX BRAVERMAN:www.instagram.com/alexbravermanWHERE TO WATCH THANK YOU VERY MUCH:https://drafthousefilms.com/thankyouverymuchREVOLUTIONS PER MOVIE:Host Chris Slusarenko (Eyelids, Guided By Voices, owner of Clinton Street Video rental store) is joined by actors, musicians, comedians, writers & directors who each week pick out their favorite music documentary, musical, music-themed fiction film or music videos to discuss. Andy Kaufman faking his death is a theory tracing back to May 16, 1984. I met Frank Nora online in early 2000, through our mutual investigations into this mystery. Websites like andykaufmanlives.com, various Twitter accounts, and forums grew communities around the phenomenon. This is the first time Frank and I met in person, 7-17-2024, before Yachtley Crew took the stage at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, New Jersey. This is part 2 of the podcast series. Stay tuned for Parts 3 and 4, which includes John Carlos Pepe, another fellow investigator, who also recorded our meetup on his own podcast, "The PEP Talk".
