You know it's going to be a wild ride when Vicki Joy Anderson is in the house! This episode is a no-holds-barred deep dive into spiritual warfare, the challenges of isolation in fringe Christian circles, and the struggle of navigating biblical truth in a world full of traditions and misconceptions. We talk about deconstruction without destruction, the pitfalls of making secondary issues into deal-breakers, and the lost art of constructive correction among believers. Oh, and somehow we even managed to tie in rock tumblers, flat earth, and the importance of embracing suffering. THERE'S NO BUSINESS LIKE SHOW BUSINESSIt was the summer of 2019. I experienced an earthquake, a car accident, and the difficult birth of an original theater piece, which came to be known as "Toxic Shocks". The project was suggested in order to address some issues surrounding student's concerns, which will be enumerated within. This necessitated a new approach to theatrical devisement (is that a word?) --, and I embraced the challenge wholeheartedly. Despite my being all in, things got a bit rocky. The passages from the diary describe the difficult birthing process, and the effect on my dream life.

The word gospel simply means good news. For many of us when we hear the word gospel we think of good news that Jesus came and died to pay the penalty for our sin and provide a way to reconcile us with God. That is indeed good news! That is gospel. We often hear gospel messages about Jesus, but we don't often hear about the gospel message that Jesus himself preached. Is it possible that we've missed the real message of Jesus? Larry is joined by professor of law at the University of Michigan Law School and co-host of the podcast ‘Strict Scrutiny', Leah Litman to discuss her forthcoming book ‘Lawless: How the Supreme Court Runs on Conservative Grievance, Fringe Theories, and Bad Vibes', publishing on May 13th. They begin their conversation by talking about how the politicization of modern supreme court operations inspired her book, and shining a light on the history of the conservative right's use of Roe v. Wade as a stepping stone to further their patriarchal influence on the U.S's civil rights policies. This leads to a discussion about about voters who agree with this antiquated agenda and the individual Supreme Court justices who are motivated to implement it (24:24). After the break, Larry and Leah take a look at LGBTQ rights issues in relation to the Supreme Court and how the current administration is using grievance policies to dismantle the 14th amendment (33:18). Nick and Angela welcome a master of his craft to Dish. Alex Horne is an English comedian, writer and creator of the award-winning and highly original game show Taskmaster, which he cohosts with Greg Davies. Horne, born in Chichester, began his comedy career as a student doing routines at open mic nights in Cambridge before appearing at his first Edinburgh Fringe in 2000. It was at the Fringe that Taskmaster came to life, before making its debut on our TV screens in 2009 (first on Dave and now on Channel 4). The show, now in its 19th season, has been broadcast in over 120 countries and recently was turned into a live immersive experience in London. Alex, who lives in Chesham with his wife and three sons, is also the lead singer of The Horne Section, a ‘six-headed musical comedy band', who have extended their UK and Ireland tour across the duration of 2025. They can also be seen on TV in the aptly titled The Horne Section TV Show, which returns for its second series later this year. Nick, Angela and Alex start the episode over a Guinness with a side of Pringles, before enjoying meatballs in tomato sauce, a recipe by the one and only... Angela Hartnett. The perfectly crafted meatballs are served alongside a glass of Primitivo di Manduria Riserva. With so much going on in Alex's life, this episode covers a lot of funny ground, including the origins of Taskmaster, The Horne Section and Alex's skills in the kitchen, while Angela learns something new about Pringles… We are doing a live episode in Sheffield! On Friday 4 July, Dish will be at The Crucible Theatre at Crossed Wires Festival. For our second ever live show, Nick and Angela will be joined by the newly announced and hilariously funny comedian, Lucy Beaumont. Tickets are available now at crossedwires.live. You can watch full episodes of Dish on YouTube All recipes from this podcast can be found at waitrose.com/dishrecipes A transcript for this episode can be found at waitrose.com/dish We can't all have a Michelin star chef in the kitchen, but you can ask Angela for help. Some of them are known as fringe parties, while others are upstarts, hoping to make an impact down the road. Today on The Big Story, we're shining a light on some of the lesser known parties in this campaign, and letting them have their voice heard as the country goes through the democratic process.Host Cormac Mac Sweeney speaks with the Leaders of the Animal Protection Party, the Canadian Future Party, the Communist Party, and the Marijuana Party. We love feedback at The Big Story, as well as suggestions for future episodes. You can find us:Through email at hello@thebigstorypodcast.ca Or @thebigstoryfpn on Twitter
Although we are discussing the Fringe episode “Alone in the World” this week on the podcast, we are not actually alone because we are joined by Hannah, our resident fungus expert! We talk about what we love about this episode and its themes but also express some disappointment over never seeing Aaron again despite the powerful bond that he forms with Walter. We also share some great feedback from feedbackers like Geoff (xforce11, ShelkyBean, Vawn, Eric (or Eric from Pennsylvania as you prefer), and Anna (not Torv.) Speaking of Anna, she will be joining us next time for our discussion of “Subject 9”! If, like Hannah and Anna, you would like to be a co-host on the show, sign up to co-host a season 4 episode with us! There are still a few episodes open! Indigo children, according to a New Age concept, are children who are believed to possess special, unusual, and sometimes supernatural traits or abilities. The idea is based on concepts developed in the 1970s by Nancy Ann Tappe, who wrote that she had been noticing indigo children beginning in the late 1960s. They fall under the umbrella of "Starseeds", people who are said to be of "extraterrestrial" bloodlines. Fringe, a multiple abduction survivor and researcher, joins Joel for a fascinating look at Indigo Children and their place in the modern alien and MiLabs abduction scene. They look at the Military abduction process and why "special" children are funneled into GATE programs. Fringe then shares some of her personal experiences and how they parallel Leah Haley's experiences and what these interdimensional entities really want from those they take. There are two women who still inspire me today. They remind me that no matter where you are in life, no matter your financial situation, no matter what difficulty you're going through or mountain you're on top of, you are never too good to treat someone with respect and even offer them something extra to brighten their day, and you're never too poor to be able to find someone who needs help more than you do. In a recent debate on “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Douglas Murray chastised the host for platforming non-experts he claims are spreading dangerous misinformation. Matt Kibbe points out that not only has the expert class completely failed to earn the trust of the American people but that the democratization of knowledge is one of the best things about the internet and podcasting in general. The process of challenging established dogma is what leads to greater dialogue and the free exchange of ideas. This is not unlike the theories of the Austrian school of economics, which prioritizes the importance of individual action over mindless deference to so-called experts, who claim to know what's best for everyone else.

Extremism in America has been on the rise. Last episode, we looked at extremist groups in Chicago and how they terrorized select groups of people and influenced housing policy in the city during the 1950s. But what does extremism look like today? Curious City host Erin Allen talks with Odette Yousef, a national security correspondent focusing on extremism at NPR, about why it's less about fringe groups and more about ideology that has permeated our culture. “January 6 was a good example of how everything has changed,” she says. “That to me was really a milestone in terms of how extremism looks in this country, because I think we have long expected it to come out of small cells or groups. And here it was just everyday Americans who had gotten really kind of radicalized until the point where they participated in the violence that day.” She also talks about how extremism has shown up in Chicago and how the city compares with other large American cities.
