You could say that nobody steals Thor's thunder. He is the god of thunder, after all. But perhaps he's the only one who is immune to having their thunder stolen. It took me years to see this fault in myself. To be honest, I'm still not convinced I'm capable of realizing that I've stolen someone's thunder until a great deal of time has passed. That scares me a little. And that's the lesson for today. If you're like me, you love the thrill of getting set free to take an idea and run with it. That's a great feeling and often comes with rewarding outcomes. Just don't take off without first taking a look around you. Welcome to The Daily, where we study the Bible verse by verse, chapter by chapter, every day. Today's shout-out goes to Bruce Bowler from Cedar Falls, IA. Thank you for partnering with us through Project23. Your support is helping others reach for Jesus—maybe for the first time. This one's for you. Our text today is Mark 6:53-56: When they had crossed over, they came to land at Gennesaret and moored to the shore. And when they got out of the boat, the people immediately recognized him and ran about the whole region and began to bring the sick people on their beds to wherever they heard he was. And wherever he came, in villages, cities, or countryside, they laid the sick in the marketplaces and implored him that they might touch even the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were made well. — Mark 6:53-56 Jesus steps out of the boat in Gennesaret—and the people move fast. They recognize him. They run through towns and villages. They gather the sick, the broken, the weary—laying them out in streets and marketplaces. But what they want is simple. Not a lesson. Not a meeting. Not even a touch from his hand. “If we could just touch the fringe of his garment.” That's what they were after. Just the edge. The tassel. The outermost thread. Because they believed the power of Jesus extended even to the fringe. And it did. “As many as touched it were made well.” Faith doesn't always walk in with swagger. Sometimes, it crawls in with desperation. Sometimes, it's not bold enough to stand tall— but just enough to stretch out an arm. Faith reaches for the fringe. The people in this story knew they weren't worthy to ask for much. But they believed Jesus was more than enough. So they reached. And Jesus healed. It's the same today. You may not feel like your faith is strong. You may not feel like you have the words. You may not even feel worthy of asking. But Jesus still honors those who reach out to him. Even if all you can manage today is a whisper. A prayer through tears. A step toward the church. A breath of surrender. A call of repentance. That's faith. And Jesus sees it and responds to it. So wherever you are, however far off you feel—reach. The fringe of his robe still holds the fullness of his power. ASK THIS: When have you felt unworthy to approach Jesus? What does “reaching for the fringe” look like in your life today? How can desperation lead to deeper faith? Why do you think Jesus honors even small acts of faith? DO THIS: Take one small action today that symbolizes reaching for Jesus—pray, read one verse, confess, or ask for help. PRAY THIS: Jesus, I don't always feel strong or worthy, but I'm reaching for you anyway. Meet me in my weakness with your healing power. Amen. PLAY THIS: Touch the Hem of His Garment.

Welcome to Day 2651 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom – Theology Thursday – “The Unseen Realm: God and the Gods” – Supernatural Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2651 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2651 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Today, we begin a new focus on this 2nd of 16 segments of our Theology Thursday lessons. I will read through the book Supernatural, written by Hebrew Bible scholar, professor, and mentor, the late Dr. Michael S. Heiser. Supernatural is a condensed version of his comprehensive book ‘The Unseen Realm.' If these readings pique your interest, I would recommend that you read ‘The Unseen Realm.' Today, we will read through chapter two: ‘The Unseen Realm: God and the Gods.' People are fascinated by the supernatural and the superhuman. Just think about the entertainment industry in recent years. Thousands of books, television shows, and movies from the past decade have explored themes such as angels, aliens, monsters, demons, ghosts, witches, magic, vampires, werewolves, and superheroes. Many of Hollywood's blockbuster franchises feature the supernatural: the X-Men, the Avengers, the Harry Potter series, Superman, and the Twilight Saga. Television shows like Fringe, and, of course, Supernatural and The X-Files, have dedicated followings even long after filming new episodes ends. And really, haven't these things always been popular—in tales, in books, in art? Why? One answer is that they're an escape from the ordinary. They offer us a world that's more interesting and exciting than our own. There's something about good versus evil, magnified on a cosmic scale, that thrills us. The epic struggle by the heroes of Middle-earth (Gandalf, Frodo, and company) against the Dark Lord Sauron in The Lord of the Rings trilogy has captivated readers (and now moviegoers) for over half a century now. The more otherworldly the villain, the more spectacular the triumph. On another level, people are drawn to other worlds because, as the book of Ecclesiastes puts it, God has “put eternity into [our] hearts” (Eccl. 3:11). There's something about the human condition that longs for something beyond human experience—something divine. The Apostle Paul also wrote about this yearning. He taught that it comes from just being alive in the world God has made. The creation bears witness to a creator, and, therefore, to a realm beyond our own (Rom. 1:18–23). Paul said this impulse was so powerful that it had to be willfully suppressed (v. 18). And yet we don't seem to think of the epic story of the Bible in the same way we think of our own tales of the supernatural in books, movies, and legend. There are reasons for that, and they go beyond the lack of special effects. For some, the Bible's characters are too ordinary or grandfatherly. They don't feel dynamic or heroic. After all, these are the same people and the same stories we've been hearing since Sunday school as kids. Then there's the cultural barrier. It's hard for us to identify with what seems like an endless parade of ancient shepherds and men wearing robes, like so many actors in your church's nativity play. But I think an even bigger factor in why science fiction or supernatural fantasy captures our imagination more...

In this episode of the OnStage Colorado Podcast, hosts Alex Miller and Toni Tresca began by discussing our Colorado theatre experiences since the last episode. Alex reviewed & Juliet at the Denver Center, describing it as surprisingly enjoyable despite disliking the pop music soundtrack. He also attended the 24 Hour Plays fundraiser at Curious Theatre, featuring six playwrights creating original works in 24 hours, with notable performances from Denver theater veterans.Toni covered several productions including Forbidden Broadway: Merrily We Stole a Song (which we discussed in detail on a bonus episode), the interactive art installation Oracle at Union Hall, Comedy Works' New Faces competition (25th year, 168 local comics competing), Little Miss Sunshine at Aurora Fox (which he found problematic as an adaptation), and The Tempest at Colorado Shakespeare Festival, which he praised for its visual magic and strong performances.Denver Fringe Festival RecapTime: 24:30 - 33:30We both attended the sixth annual Denver Fringe Festival, which kicked off with a showcase at Cleo Parker Robinson Theater hosted by Juice the Clown. Alex saw three shows including a cabaret performance and Plant the Musical (a confusing two-person show where both actors played the same character). Toni saw eight shows and published seven reviews, with Ben Franklin Sex Party at Rise Comedy being his favorite — an immersive comedy involving the audience in founding a new country called “Birdlandia” that ended with a group orgy scene and syphilis outbreak.Tony Awards DiscussionTime: 33:30 - 42:45We discussed the relevance of the Tony Awards for Colorado theatergoers, noting that while the shows are only in New York initially, Tony wins can help shows tour nationally. Major winners included Maybe Happy Ending (Best Musical) and Purpose (Best Play). Toni watched clips of the ceremony, praising host Cynthia Erivo's opening and noting that the Hamilton reunion performance was the evening's highlight, though it overshadowed other nominees.Colorado Theater NewsTime: 42:45 - 49:45Theater Funding Crisis: As reported by the Denver Gazette's John Moore, two northern Colorado theatres - Bas Bleu (33 years old) and OpenStage (50 years old) – are both facing financial shortfalls due to reduced public arts funding, needing emergency fundraising of $40,000 and $15,000 respectively. This contrasts with Denver metro theaters that benefit from the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD).Other News:Colorado Renaissance Fair opens June 14th for its 48th season, though elephants may be banned due to legal challengesDenver native Annaleigh Ashford returns for DCPA's Saturday Night Alive gala on June 14thBreaking news: We announced the 19th Annual Henry Award nominees, with the ceremony scheduled for July 28th at Lone Tree Arts Center. The theater has grown to three full-time employees including new Operations Manager Kevin Douglas and Executive Director Ryan Heidenreich.Key Topics We Covered:Unique Programming: Combines traditional theater with burlesque performances through their troupe “House of Shimmie Shake,” which sells out annuallyOriginal Works: Cucciniello has written over 20 plays, mostly devised collaboratively with ensemble castsRecent Success: Ski Bum the Musical by local ski bum Li

As we stood there on the shore of San Diego Bay taking in the sights of Comic-Con, Clint looked at me and asked, “Darrell, why do you do all of this?” I took a moment and gave him an answer I wasn't happy with then and I'm not happy with now. I told him that I enjoyed being around the celebrities and learning about all the new stuff that's coming out on TV this season. He looked at me with a dissatisfied expression. I've thought a lot about it since then, and here's the truthful answer he deserved that day. I wanted the recognition. I wanted the notoriety. I was motivated heavily by selfish ambitions. Tread Perilously returns to the timey-wimey with a month they just had to call "Let's Do The Time Loop Again!" First up: an episode of Fringe known as "White Tulip." When Olivia, Peter, and Walter are called to the scene of a train car filled with corpses, it soon becomes clear a former MIT professor may be to blame. Walter quickly discovers the scientist is trying to use time travel to seemingly save his fiancée who perished several months earlier. Walter has his own experience with grief leading to mad science. Will he be able to talk the other scientist down from his experiment before more people die? Erik and Justin like Fringe and make no bones about it. But they also like to make fun of J.J. Abrams, so they quickly get into the weeds with that. Star John Noble quickly proves to be the episode MVP, but guest star Peter Weller gives him a run for his money. Justin determines the three premises of Fringe. He also recounts how he derailed his calculus class. Erik presents more thoughts on Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. The pair question whether or not the episode's time loop is effective, the real issue with plotholes is explored, and the real Richard Dragon suddenly becomes important.
Jane had an accident just before recording — apologies if you can hear her toes squelching... Jane and Fi also chat care, foxes, and maths.
