This week we chat with writer and podcaster Christine Makepeace! We chat about her writing and her horror history, but then we dig into the two episode arc that scarred a generation: Punky Brewster's Halloween two-episode horror spree "The Perils of Punky." We chat giant spiders, demonic ghosts, children in walls and how IT totally stole from it. And of course why the episodes scarred not only a generation of children, but Christine in particular. Oh and she gives us a crash course on the show because your hosts had never seen a single episode of it. Follow Christine on Twitter. 146. The Blackcoat's Valentine: Hello lovers! We're diving into February with, well, a movie formerly titled February and one set on the month's most famous day. Up first is the “I Can't Believe It's 21 Years Old” Valentine, a throwback slasher with big highs and lows. We follow it up with Osgood Perkins' debut The Blackcoat's Daughter, a chilly tale of a whole lot of stuff we don't particularly understand. Tell us what we missed on Facebook or Twitter (@femininepodcast). Also, buy Christine Makepeace's book!

Christine and Emily are joined by the one and only Jason “Fozzie Bare” Nelson to tackle a pair of twisty, joyous genre hodgepodges. After an extended round of what our special guest star has been watching (which turns into some rumination on racism is reality competitions, the juggernaut of the Real Housewives world, and Penny Dreadful spoilers) we dive into 1963's delightful Charade and 2003's Identity. We go into full detail on both, so make sure you watch them before listening. Find Jason's witty repartee online @fozziebare, and be sure to subscribe to Christine Makepeace's newsletter (@xtine_Makepeace) for updates on her new book!

Special Guest: Mei FongGuest Co-Hosts: Keith Gordon, Christine MakepeaceWhile we often talk about a few movies on every episode -- one main film and some supporting works, sequels, and so on -- we're spotlighting two movies on this episode: Michael Campus's Z.P.G. (1972) and Alfonso Cuaron's Children of Men (2006). Z.P.G. (Zero Population Growth) stars Oliver Reed as Russ McNeil and and Geraldine Chaplan as his wife Carol. The film is set the near future where global resources have been strained and the environment has paid the price for the blight of human beings which have polluted the air so much that they live under a shroud of smog. The film was inspired by Paul Ehrlich's 1968 clarion call, The Population Bomb which warned of overpopulation.Alfonso Cuaron's Children of Men is a very loose adaptation of P.D. James's 1992 novel. The film stars Clive Owen as Theo Faron who's biding his time on planet earth as the population is dying -- or killing itself off. No babies have been born in over 18 years which has exacerbated social strife, leading to terrorism, mass suicide, and refugee crises.

CHRISTINE MAKEPEACE of The Feminine Critique podcast returns to the show to tackle the stigma around pornography. We explore how the medium is not the traditional prison of exploitation that the mainstream world would have you believe. We also break down the shaming and taboo of porn, look at the feminism it represents, and touch on the Rashida Jones-produced doc, "Hot Girls Wanted." This is one of those classics in my "great talks with excellent people" series.Christine on TwitterGo get Christine's book WAKE UP, MAGGIEListen to the Feminine Critique on iTunes and TumblrMusic on this podcast:Artist: AnnieSong: Anthonio (Berlin Breakdown Version) Artist: Philip Seymour Hoffman & Jonny GreenwoodSong: (I'd Like to Get You On a) Slow Boat to China - written by Frank LoesserCopyrights are owned by the artists and their labels.
