Kane Parsons made the Backrooms on YouTube when he was only sixteen. Over 200 million views later, A24 has handed him his feature debut, making him the studio's youngest director ever at 20. But the yellow walls still don't end. This week Laura Gommans and Elliot Bloom go into the maze and come back with an answer that has very little to do with what's actually inside. The Backrooms, they argue, is about us, stuck in our own feedback loop, drifting through vacant spaces. Online, half the internet thinks Kane Parsons couldn't have directed such a hit so young. Mark Duplass, who was on set the whole time, says they're wrong. Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve carry the screen, with James Wan and Osgood Perkins producing. Laura and Elliot ask: what does it take to direct a feature like this at 20 with a crew this experienced? And has A24 found its next pipeline for talent — skipping film school for YouTube horror directors?Get tickets to Backrooms @ LAB111Get tickets to Cine of The Times: The Fast And The Furious @ LAB111 Get tickets to Straight To Video: Nightmare At Noon @ LAB111A film podcast from LAB111 — Amsterdam's arthouse cinema for independent and cult films. Drusilla and Josh discuss Osgood Perkins' new cult classic, Longlegs. From wiki: “Longlegs is a 2024 American mystery horror film written and directed by Osgood Perkins. The film stars Maika Monroe, Blair Underwood, Alicia Witt, and Nicolas Cage. Set in the 1990s, the story follows a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent assigned to hunt down an occult-obsessed serial killer responsible for a string of family murders across Oregon. The killer is dubbed Longlegs, and baffles the FBI with his perfect ability to seemingly leave zero trace of involvement at the crime scenes.”Also discussed: glam rock, Mortal Kombat II, Obsession, Resident Evil, people who talk during movies, Sheep Detectives, Tiny Tim, Silence of the Lambs, Corpses Fools and Monsters, and more. Movie Meltdown - Episode 659 (For our Patreon "Horror Club") The Horror Club metaphorically convenes at a remote diner to eat burgers and discuss Jem Garrard's 2025 film Takeout. And as we create our own Mandela Effect, we also delve into… The Monkey, House aka Hausu, Let the Corpses Tan, cockroach saliva, Disney trademarking, Michael B. Jordan, 70s genre movies, lots of exposition, very obvious serial killers, Mandy Patinkin paying for breakfast, plot conveniences, the horse with the human skull, a walk-in with a window, Osgood Perkins, The Dollkeeper, the reward scenario, streaming ads, traumatizing children, making smart decisions, giallo titles, taking care of yourself, she gets in a fight with a ghost, a produce salesman, you gotta keep murderin', and a girl gets eaten by a piano. Spoiler Alert: Full spoilers for the 2025 film "Takeout". You have been warned. "There was so much like... Scooby-Doo style running in and out of doors."
We really enjoyed Longlegs, so the news of a sequel reuniting Osgood Perkins and Nicolas Cage has us excited. We also cannot wait to see what the next chapter of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre will be like. Maybe this will be the return to prominence the iconic franchise deserves. There was a lot of horror news to come out of CinemaCon. Two, Evil Dead movies, Clayface, Werewulf, Final Destination 7, and so much more. We discuss as much of it as possible, but one thing is clear. Horror fans have a lot to look forward to. It has been a while since we have had a musical on our show. (There is a very good reason. We aren't the biggest fans.) Gangstapuffs fixes that as his choice was 2008's Repo! The Genetic Opera. This has lots of gore and some big names, but is that enough? The answer is, not quite. It is very stylish; an argument can be made that it is ahead of its time. But there are also some choices that make for a very exhausting watch. There are fifty (!) songs in an hour and a half and the acting talents of the stronger cast members are never showcased. At least they kept Paris Hilton to a minimum. Horrorhound Spring Filmfest 2026 interview Number 2 is here and VERY queer with tonight's interview about the comedy horror short Bath Bomb and its director Colin G Cooper. We are not at liberty to give away any spoilers, but we do discuss what inspired Bath Bomb and all the serendipitous occurrences that made the film happen. We had a fun discussion about Giallo, queer representation in horror, Osgood Perkins and then rounded it out with our love for Tatiana Maslany. Colin was a great sport and we can't wait to see what he has coming next. Follow him on Instagram and check out the next screening of Bath Bomb on May 9, 2026 at FANT Film Festival in Bilbao Spain. Actor and writer/director Osgood Perkins sits down with host Frank Mackay on this episode of The Frank Mackay Show!
HMSG Interview Lauren Cupp - “Longlegs”This week we cover another Osgood Perkins flick with one of our friends Lauren Cupp! We discuss one of her favorite films of the last two years - LONGLEGS (2024). This kinds feels like a crime since Lauren is known as a SAW franchise superfan. Never fear when we cover the sequels she'll be back! More about our Guest! Lauren is a performer, personality, and jack of all trades in the SoCal horror community. She can be found in a myriad of places, most recently onstage in Saw the Musical. She gives riveting presentations every month at Pop Culture Hell about the questionable nature of Cary Elwes' accents and which Saw character would be best to smoke weed with. Otherwise she is frequently found at any given movie palace in LA. She was once described as the “saw-trappiest gal in SoCal” and she'll never let that title go.Support the show
We start a brand new mini-series this week examining a handful of Stephen King adaptations which were all released last year. The first of these is also one of the most unconventional. Directed by Osgood Perkins, THE MONKEY takes a King short story about fate and recurring trauma and turns it into an absurdist dark comedy about death. Impressively well-made and often disarmingly humorous, The Monkey deftly executes outlandish destruction but struggles to balance the tone of its looney toons death sequences with its occasional stabs at earnestness. But in the end, like life, it seems to be admitting that fate not only sits beyond our control, but perhaps also beyond our conception of control. We're joined by bestselling author and friend of the show Matt Ruff to unpack all of our thoughts on Osgood Perkins' The Monkey in this brisk and fun episode that we really hope you enjoy.5:34 - Catching up with Matt Ruff18:27 - THE MONKEYSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

This isn't just a podcast; it's a cinematic 28-minute masterclass in the truth behind the headlines. In this premiere 4K episode on Youtube/Spotify, we break down:• Longlegs - The Horror Masterpiece: We dissect Osgood Perkins' horror phenomenon. Is Nicolas Cage's performance the ultimate embodiment of this eras psychological dread? We go "mask off" on the occult symbolism and the "triangular" unaliving pattern that has the internet paralyzed.• The Epstein Files (2026 Declassified): With this month's release of over 3 million FBI records, we look at the names frequently appearing in the declassified documents. From Buckingham Palace dinner invites to the politician correspondence, we analyze the "client list" reality that mainstream media is still trying to redact. *Correction Naomi Campbell (Model) I meant not Aussie Actress. • MAFS Australia 2026: The Brook Crompton Nuclear Blow-up: We analyze the "villain arc" of the century. From the secret pregnancy rumors to the "Mean Girl" tag-team with Gia, we dissect the dinner party where Brook went absolutely off the hinge. Why is Brook allegedly trying to sue to have the footage scrubbed?• Shrinking Season 3: The "Jimmying" Effect: Apple TV's mental health hit is back. We review the return of Harrison Ford and Jason Segel, exploring how the show balances "grief-therapy" with 2026's best hang-out comedy vibes. Longlegs (Perkins 2024) While we think Osgood Perkins seems to be a genuinely wonderful human, sadly this film is not wonderful. This is not so much a movie as it is a series of trope vignettes with similar production desgin. Longlegs is all vibes with no substance; no character development, no timeline, no rationales, and no real reasons for anything. In many ways it's a perfect film for the TikTok era, and we don't mean that as a compliment. Laura started out thinking Marshall would hate the film. While he didn't initially, through our discussion we found out she was absolutely correct to think that. This is not what we want in our horror films, without some cohesion of diegetic reality, there is no real fear, no real horror. There is lots more of our podcast!

Synopsis After nearly a year of dating, lovebirds Liz and Malcom drive to Malcom's family cabin for a little getaway. Liz immediately begins to pick up on some strange vibes, both from the cabin and Malcom. Something is definitely off, but at least there is chocolate cake. As Liz learns more about Malcom, she is bombarded by visions of dead women, creepy ghouls, and severed heads. All of this in the name of love, maybe it would have been better to stay single after all. Review of Keeper Keeper's trailer keeps things pretty ambiguous, and so I had very little knowledge of this film before going in. All I could gather was that this movie was about a woman on a trip with her boyfriend, who is kind of creepy. And honestly, that's what we get from this movie for the entirety of Act 1 and Act 2. Liz is just mildly bothered by her boyfriend acting strangely, but other than that, there isn't much to say about it. The director Osgood Perkins is currently making a name for himself with movies like The Blackcoat's Daughter and Longlegs, but Keeper seems to be something else. While there are mixed reviews for Longlegs (some loving it and others finding it weird and cheesy), what we can all agree on is that Longlegs had some very interesting concepts that make the movie worth checking out. Unfortunately for Keeper, there really just isn't anything all that interesting about it. It's a cabin in the woods story, with a domineering, creepy man, and a seemingly helpless yet feisty female protagonist. It almost doesn't get more cliche than that. I will say that Act Three opens the movie up a little bit more, and the creepy visuals and monster designs were quite scary-looking. But that doesn't make up for the movie being kind of bland most of the time. Even when it ends up doing something kind of good, the story is still borderline nonsensical. Score 3/10
An incredibly random mix of movies this week, but hopefully we have a little something for everyone here at Breakfast All Day. Think of it as a Thanksgiving buffet for your ears: WICKED: FOR GOOD: We do not agree at all on the second half of "Wicked," based on the Broadway musical. But we wanted to review it as early as we could, so here we are, putting one foot in front of the other on the Yellow Brick Road. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande co-star. In theaters Nov. 21. KEEPER (NO Spoilers!): The latest nightmare fuel from Osgood Perkins has been in theaters for a few days, so we wanted to catch up with it. The less you know the better, so this is a spoiler-free review, but we're thinking of doing a spoiler livestream, so we'll keep you posted on that. Tatiana Maslany is awesome in this. JAY KELLY: George Clooney IS George Clooney in this affectionate drama from director and co-writer Noah Baumbach. He plays a legendary Hollywood star who's forced to reconsider his life and legacy. Adam Sandler, Laura Dern, Billy Crudup and Riley Keough are among the incredible supporting cast. In select theaters now, streaming on Netflix Dec. 5. Send us a Question!MOVIE DISCUSSION: Kathryn joins Melvin to discuss Osgood Perkins' second movie of 2025, Keeper! Has Perkins created another commercially accessible psychological-horror success, or has he returned to his undeniably divisive slow-burn roots? And is Keeper another one of his female-led soft-feminist tales? Tune in and find out! Topics: Editor's Note: No Patreon Exclusive discussion! But, I do intend to trim this episode down from its original 1:44:01 length, so if you want to hear the UNCUT version, tune in on Patreon here!Because the trailers didn't seem representative of the final product, Melvin pitches the movie a little differently by explaining what the movie actually is.Kathryn and Melvin get the impression that Osgood Perkins isn't so much interested in characters as he is the film as a whole, and thus his work is often vibes-heavy.Osgood Perkins, from Melvin's perspective, creates dense films that often appear simple.Kathryn felt the overly-exposited third-act somewhat muddled the film.Talking about some recurrent visuals and motifs, like the water and the dream sequences.Specifically talking about what Melvin is calling the "Mini Minka" scene.Discussing the line, "We are your children and all the women that came before you."Recommendations: The Devil You Know with Sarah Marshall (Podcast)Occult (2009) (Movie)Support the showSupport on Patreon for Unique Perks! LOOK OUT! It's only Films To Be Buried With! Join your host Brett Goldstein as he talks life, death, love and the universe with the horror movie making phenomenon OSGOOD PERKINS! For those who don't routinely venture down the path of modern horror, Osgood might be a fixture of the moviemaking world with whom you're yet to become acquainted. Consider this a formal introduction - and for those who've seen his stuff, welcome back! Coming from a very well known parental lineage, Osgood has carved a niche in the horror world transcending the basic facts of who his parents are and planting a flag in a genre which has only been gathering steam and fans in recent years. And while this a calm, collected and sober episode, it's a riveting one offering wisdom, existential nuggets (did you see them back in '74 at the Troubadour? hell of a show), and a huge amount of delightful cinema treats to devour. Catch up on his films if you're in the slightest bit intrigued but otherwise, just enjoy a very satisfying catchup with these two. Enjoy! Video and extra audio available on Brett's Patreon!
