Mulholland Drive is a 2001 surrealist neo-noir mystery art film written and directed by David Lynch. Its plot follows an aspiring actress who arrives in Los Angeles, where she befriends a woman who is suffering from amnesia after a car accident. The film follows several other vignettes and characters, including a Hollywood director who encounters mob interference while casting for his latest film. Lynch's tagline for the film is "a love story in the city of dreams". Just like Blue Velvet (and Twin Peaks), Angelo Badalamenti composed the film's score. Blue Velvet is a 1986 American neo-noir mystery thriller film written and directed by David Lynch. Blending psychological horror with film noir, the film stars Kyle MacLachlan, Isabella Rossellini, Dennis Hopper, and Laura Dern, and is named after the 1951 song of the same name. The film follows a college student who returns to his suburban hometown and discovers a severed human ear in a field, which leads him to uncover a vast criminal conspiracy involving a troubled lounge singer. The film's score was composed by Angelo Badalamenti.

Avui a la Crema podeu escoltar entre altres a Jimena Gonik, Willow, Oques Grasses, Amyl And The Sniffers, The Gift, Aurora Clara, Jordi Farreras, St. Vincent, Fontaines DC, Griffi i Juli Giuliani, Zazen Boys, Vientos Moderados Del Este, Mário Lopes, Actionfredag, Tusmorke, El Último Vecino, Opeth, Blood Incantation, Vylet Pony, Hombres G, Simon And Garfunkel, Frank Zappa, Franco Battiato, Remei De Ca La Fresca, The Circle Project, David Gilmour, Big Big Train, Geordie Greep, Bent Knee i David Lynch amb Angelo Badalamenti. If you're old enough to have been watching network television in 1990, just the first two notes of this music should have sent an involuntary shiver down your spine. It conjures up atavistic, possibly suppressed, memories of the strange, disconcerting world of the late film and television director DAVID LYNCH—creator of the award-winning series “TWIN PEAKS,” who passed away in January, 2025. It's a perfect example of the Lynch brand of “Visionary Surrealism,” a mixture of the banal, the beautiful, and the sinister —a juxtaposition of mysterious or menacing sounds and images with mundane, everyday environments. On this transmission of HEARTS of SPACE, a tribute to the banal, bizarre, beautiful, and disconcerting world of DAVID LYNCH, on a program called "SO DARK.” Music is by ANGELO BADALAMENTI, JULEE CRUISE, TOM NEWMAN, JEFF GREINKE, and GABRIEL YARED. We share behind-the-scenes stories from iconic sets such as "Mulholland Drive" and "Twin Peaks," illustrating how Lynch used music as an emotional compass for his films. His impact isn't limited to fellow filmmakers; musicians like Trent Reznor and bands like The Mars Volta have also drawn inspiration from his atmospheric style, proving Lynch's reach across multiple creative fields. This exploration uncovers the spiritual connectivity between Lynch and those he inspires, emphasizing his enduring legacy. Our journey through Lynch's filmography reveals his mastery in creating unforgettable cinematic moments, from the intense performances in "Wild at Heart" to the reality-bending narratives of "Lost Highway." Arlington Road was 77th highest grossing movie of 1999, released 25 years ago last week on July 9th, unfortunately crowded out by some other big releases, namely American Pie, released the same day, as well as Wild Wild West, Tarzan, and The General's Daughter, all in their second weeks. Directed by acclaimed music video director Mark Pellington (Pearl Jam's "Jeremy"), with a script from future Oscar nominee Ehren Kruger. a score by David Lynch's personal composer Angelo Badalamenti, and starring two of the finest actors of their generation, Jeff Bridges and Tim Robbins, Arlington Road has a lot going for it. 25 years later, it's also turned out to be one of the most prescient and relevant movies of the year. At times unbearably tense, deadly serious, and eye-rollingly goofy, it's ambitious, uneven, and incredibly entertaining. Lawyer, occasional movie producer, and writer Matt Belenky is probably the world's most biggest Arlington Road fan (prove us wrong!), so John and Jenn invited him on to look back on this very 1990s genre film. ---- Redactie radio: Laura Iwuchukwu, Nina Ramkisoen, Geerte Verduijn, Jessica Zoghary. What's up, dudes? It was 1989, and the Griswolds had an amazing and quirky holiday staycation adventure with fantastic music woven throughout! Kevin Williams from ‘Tis the Soundtrack joins me to discuss the fabulous song selection and Badalamenti's orchestral score to “National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation!”A supposed 10th Anniversary Edition soundtrack CD was released by Warner Brothers in print-on-demand kiosks for their Six Flags Magic Mountain theme park. Apparently, only seven thousand of the twenty thousand allotment were sold, and so the rest were shipped back to Warner Brothers. A company acquired the lot in a bulk sale, and decided to sell them online. Or did they? Spoilers: the entire story was a hoax to help sell bootleg copies of the album. One piece of music—a Christmas Medley—allegedly by Badalamenti is actually by John Williams from the “Home Alone 2” score! The score to the movie was indeed composed by Angelo Badalamenti, known for his eerie, synth-heavy, atmospheric work with director David Lynch. Badalamenti wrote an unobtrusive orchestral hit peppered with comedic polkas and uptempo motif-laden piano trios. The glockenspiel Advent calendar theme is ethereal, while the orchestra weaves traditional carols through search section seamlessly. The needle drops are timed to perfection with hits by the Moonglows, Bing Crosby, and Gene Autry. Mavis Staples flawlessly sings the gospel-tinged pop titular song “Christmas Vacation.” It's a shame there hasn't been an official release!Animated intro music? Check. Sweet string melodies? Got ‘em. Tuba lead over a guy in a bathrobe? Definitely! Get a look at the various music releases over the years, and how Angelo Badalamenti, David Lynch and Julee Cruise began working together. This week, Cage plays two flavors of bad husband in a pair of VOD-ready erotic thrillers! First, we cover the Gina Gershon-starring Inconceivable, an overamped Lifetime movie about a crazy mommy (Nicky Whelan) who cozies up to a well-to-do couple (Gershon, Nicolas Cage) whose IVF-born child just so happens to be from her egg. Hitchcockian antics ensue, by which we mean Whelan's wacko MILF (falling far short of the post-breakdown Lindsay Lohan the original casting promised us) kills female wrestlers with dumbbells in shallow ponds, gaslights Gershon into restarting her pill addiction, and womb-jacks Gershon's latest attempt at a child. Still, it's got Gershon and a bored-looking Cage together for the first time since Face/Off! Then, there's Looking Glass, a low-budget motel thriller so indebted to David Lynch they even got Angelo Badalamenti to provide some themes! Cage plays a dye-bearded wreck who, with his depressed wife (Robin Tunney), take over a motel in the middle of nowhere as a means to get over their recently-passed son. There, Cage stumbles upon a mysterious web of sex trafficking and voyeurism -- hello, one-way motel mirrors -- that at all times threatens to become interesting. More fool us! Next, we talk about the incredible ensemble that brings Lynch's romance to life, praising especially the brilliance of its leads Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern as well as supporting performers like Diane Ladd (Laura Dern's real life mother, who netted an Oscar nod for her work in the film) and Willem Dafoe as one of Lynch's most memorable villains. Finally, we key into the political textures of Lynch's career-long preoccupations, and how he interrogates the parameters of society, forcing us to conceive of existences liberated from the confines of the quotidian.Follow Kayte Terry on Twitter.Listen and Subscribe to Kayte's podcasts, Fangs For The Memories and Tender Subject.....Our theme song is "Mirror" by Chris Fish
