What if the earliest Christians believed the world around them was teeming with invisible forces waiting to invade the human body? This Halloween, Biblical Time Machine delves into early Christian ideas of demons with Dr Travis Proctor, Associate Professor of Religion at Wittenberg University. His book, Demonic Bodies and the Dark Ecologies of Early Christian Discourse (OUP, 2022) reveals that demons were not just ghosts or spirits—but embodied, contaminating presences that could bring sickness, impurity, and spiritual ruin.In the Time Machine, they explore how Christians imagined demons, what they believed demons were made of, where demons lurked, and how demonic contamination shaped ancient understandings of purity, health, and the human body. Along the way, Travis reveals why haunted houses aren't just a modern Halloween invention—and which early Christian writer had the strangest ideas about demons.SUPPORT BIBLICAL TIME MACHINEIf you enjoy the podcast, please (pretty please!) consider supporting the show through the Time Travellers Club, our Patreon. In this week's chilling episode, Cheryl and Nikki dive into one of Britain's most infamous paranormal cases — The Enfield Haunting. In 1977, a seemingly ordinary council house in Enfield, North London, became the centre of a supernatural storm. Furniture flew, toys hurled themselves across rooms, and a family of four were tormented by a mischievous — and sometimes malicious — poltergeist. But was this the work of the paranormal, or something far more human?Join Cheryl and Nikki as they unpick the chaos that gripped the nation — from the terrified Hodgson family to the investigators from the Society for Psychical Research who risked their reputations chasing ghosts. Along the way, they'll separate fact from fiction, uncover how The Conjuring 2 turned this haunting into Hollywood legend, and ask the ultimate question: was Enfield really haunted, or just the perfect media storm?Expect eerie happenings, questionable recordings, and a few very British ghosts of Christmas past…

Matt Trump celebrates Halloween in true Spellbreakers fashion with a nostalgic, spooky, and thought-provoking journey through decades of magic, media, and meaning. Broadcasting in costume and spirit, Matt revisits the eerie Disney album Chilling, Thrilling Sounds of the Haunted House before diving into a cinematic exploration of witches in pop culture, from Polanski's haunting Macbeth to the charm of Bewitched and the romance of Bell, Book and Candle. Along the way, he muses on the evolution of Halloween itself, how it's shifted from childhood innocence and neighborhood trust to modern horror and memes, and what that says about America's cultural soul. Mixing humor, history, and philosophy, Matt examines how love redeems even the darkest tales and why every generation redefines “the witch” to reflect its own anxieties and desires. He closes the night with sponsors, poetry, and a heartfelt toast to the spooky season, reminding listeners that Halloween's magic lives on in nostalgia, faith, and a good cup of Loaded Gun Coffee.

In this forty-third installment of fictional horror written and narrated by Dan Cummins, we head back to 1985, when ten year-old Ryan Mellard and three friends went trick-or-treating for the first time without parental supervision. When they passed by The Dead House, a site supposedly haunted by the ghost of a woman who used to live there, they dared Ryan to enter. And what he found inside changed him forever. Happy Halloween! It's a second Halloween Encore Episode! "Hoochie" is another name for a shack. Merriam Webster doesn't know this and will tell you that a hoochie is a "sexually promiscuous young woman" (like that's a bad thing). But the Oxford English Dictionary says that a hoochie is a WWII reference for a "lean-to" or a temporary shelter. So, let's go with shack because OED is a more authoritative source than judgey Merriam Webster. A Haunted Hoochie is therefore a haunted house and the most famous of all Haunted Houses is The Haunted Hoochie located in Pataskala, Ohio. It's a family run Haunted House attraction that for the last 28 years celebrated "Swastika Saturday" - an event meant to make fun of Nazis, not to celebrate them. But that distinction wasn't clear in October 2018 after a gunman opened fire in the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, killing 11 innocent people. Haunted Hoochie took a lot of criticism for holding their Swastika-Saturday-Event on the same day as the shooting. Haunted Hoochie came out with an apology, which wasn't so great and didn't help things. So they did what all reasonable people do when their first apology doesn't stand a ghost of a chance, they apologized again, hoping this time to settle the matter once and for all.
Happy Halloween and surprise! An early treat for you. After the sillyness of last year's Halloween episode, we decided to do another crafting session, this time with a tabletop haunted house. Did we succeed within our time limit? It doesn't matter - it was still fun!

Halloween Horror 4: Missing Tooth, Drunk at Haunted House by 102.9 The Hog
In this Halloween “snack” episode, Ophira Eisenberg reconnects with horror writer and fellow Brooklyn parent Brooke Mackenzie to dig deeper into her psychic and supernatural experiences. Brooke explains that she once asked “the powers that be” to remove her ability to see ghosts through deep meditation—but kept one lingering gift: premonition dreams that sometimes predict people's deaths, a trait she says runs in her family. She recalls her one-year-old daughter giggling at an empty rocking chair and saying “Papa,” suggesting that the connection might continue in the next generation. The two trade stories about Halloween costumes and stolen stoop decorations before diving into Brooke's past involvement with Wicca, her vast crystal collection (so large her husband gives her a “quota”), and how she uses crystals for rituals—including fertility and protection rituals aided by quartz, selenite, and Herkimer diamonds. Brooke describes working as a tutor, balancing motherhood with writing horror, and how she still fears demons, exorcisms, and her own mortality. She swears she'll never touch a Ouija board again after one terrifying encounter that ended with a shop owner insisting it be stored in a freezer. The conversation wraps on a lighter note about pillowcase trick-or-treating and Brooke's hopes to publish children's books someday—just maybe with a crystal or two close by for good juju.

In a 2022 interview with Weekend Edition Sunday, Cañas told Ayesha Rascoe about the novel's themes – colonialism, social status, the syncretism of Catholicism and indigenous practices – and her own fear of the dark.To listen to Book of the Day sponsor-free and support NPR's book coverage, sign up for Book of the Day+ at plus.npr.org/bookofthedayLearn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy

Haunted house season is here, and we're back with more of your haunted house real estate stories! This annual episode is equal parts creepy, hilarious, and deeply memorable — and we're sharing everything from friendly ghosts to record players spinning in power-less foreclosures. Real estate is wild on a normal day, but when things start slamming, whispering, and levitating? That's next-level spooky. These stories come straight from our listeners and fellow Realtors, and we've got it all: haunted listing appointments, ghost dogs, creepy dolls, unexplained cold spots, and even a spirit who just wanted his research delivered back to the university. While none of these haunted happenings are exactly by the book, they're certainly unforgettable. If you've ever had a weird gut feeling on a showing, this episode will make you feel seen... and maybe a little haunted. Here's what you'll hear in this episode: A closet door that kept opening… and a ghost whispering “get out” A record player spinning in a power-less house Ghostly buyers who vanished mid-showing A photographer who saw someone move — in an empty home The professor who researched ghosts and maybe became one Cold spots, angry basement doors, and haunted flip houses A house no one saw — and buyers who didn't last two months Key Quotes & Takeaways “I was like, get out… and the ghost said, get out.” “I felt a cold, angry presence — then the door slammed in my face.” “If you're going to stay, that's fine. Just stop turning the boiler on.” “The professor just wanted his research archived. Once we did, the heat finally stayed off.” “That was the only way she could've sold it… someone had to buy it sight unseen.” Leave us a review at http://ratethispodcast.com/hustlehumbly Get your FREE Database Template: http://hustlehumblypodcast.com/starthere Email Templates 101: http://emailtemplates101.com Agent Systems 101: http://agentsystems101.com All Resources: http://hustlehumblypodcast.com Submit your topic ideas and toasts to Team@HustleHumblyPodcast.com Music: Straight A's by Connor Price → https://connorprice.shop/ The Good Life by Summer Kennedy → https://soundcloud.com/summerkennedy/the-good-life Be The One by Matrika → https://uppbeat.io/t/matrika/be-the-one Rate & Review the Show: Love what you hear?
