This week, we're kicking off some of our 50th Anniversary coverage on the show, joined by Chris Cook of Huron Web Printing & Graphics out of Canada. They handle our print media and after spending the afternoon with him and Jungle, I had to capture their experiences and expertise on the Jungle Jim's Podcast. We talk about the changing nature of print media, that tactile feedback you get from engaging with physical media compared to digital, and all of the ups and downs in the marketing industry over the 34 years Huron has been in business. Another fascinating interview where an expert helps "give up the game," so to speak. Thankful for their time! Don't forget to visit JungleJims.com/50 to sign up to win the Jungle Jim's LEGO set!
Bridgette Bello, CEO and Publisher of Tampa Bay Business & Wealth (TBBW) magazine, joins Owen Lafave for an honest conversation about taking risks in storytelling and in business. Bridgette has had a dynamic career as a media entrepreneur, which began with journalism studies at the University of Florida, continued with stints in radio and newspaper publishing, and eventually landed her on the business side of media. She explains TBBW's mission to serve CEOs through print, digital, and event-based content, emphasizing its reach of 15,000 CEOs monthly and a rapidly growing online presence due to free-access content. In a shifting media landscape where the claim that “print is dead” never ceases, Bridgette highlights the importance of staying relevant and providing content in various lengths and formats. Her approach to journalism is to promote positive stories that encourage meaningful, organic engagement and contribute to regional economic development, rejecting sensationalism and clickbait-driven metrics. This philosophy often requires risk-taking, and Bridgette reveals past feature stories that boldly sparked game-changing conversations in the local business community. The Bank of Tampa | Member FDIC

Randy Newman is one of the most misunderstood and under-celebrated musicians of the modern era. Reknowned Music Journalist/Author Robert Hilburn's new book, A Few Words in Defense of Our Country is the definitive Randy Newman biography and Bob joins us to spotlight the genius and the legend of a great American musician and storyteller.Robert Hilburn was the music critic for the Los Angeles Times for 35 years and he's written books about John Lennon, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen and Johnny Cash. Bob tells us that Newman (much like Simon) had to be convinced to have his legacy chronicled. Randy grew up in a legendary musical family in which tooting your horn (metaphorically) was frowned upon. His uncles composed movie scores and they taught Randy to let the work be your voice. We hear about Randy's challenging childhood, the pressure he felt to succeed in music and how success, once achieved, incurred his father's envy. Throughout his career, Randy's best childhood friend, Lenny Waronker (who became a record exec) believed in him, opened doors and cheered his efforts.Diving further into Randy's work flow, creative struggles and anxiety-taming efforts, Bob illuminates Randy's genre-bending and cultural interrogating musical achievements. We also delve, with Bob, into the influence once held by music critics in the golden ages of both print media and the music industry. We discuss the futures of recorded music and journalism and Bob tells us about his favorite interview ever… with Bob Dylan… and that one time he went to Folsom Prison with Johnny Cash.Plus, Weezy recommends the original Apple TV+ movie, Blitz and Fritz is currently into the new series Rivals, streaming on Hulu and other platforms.Path Points of Interest:Robert HilburnRobert Hilburn on WikipediaA Few Words In Defense of Our Country: The Biography of Randy Newman by Robert HilburnRobert Hilburn Amazon Author PageRobert Hilburn on XAmanda PetrusichBlitz on Apple TVRivals - On Several Platforms

Spanning numerous owners, iterations, and identities, Mountain Gazette has had quite a run since its founding in the 1960s. But in recent years, it’s definitively entered its modern renaissance under the guidance and wordcraft of owner/Editor-in-Chief Mike Rogge. Celebrating all things outdoors, the sizable magazine prioritizes art, photography, humor, and long-form editorial over plug-and-play content — notably abstaining from gear reviews and other consumer content. The long-running (off and on) mag just marked its 200th issue. And as Rogge — a ski bum turned editorial mastermind — explained recently on the GearJunkie Podcast, the publication is only gaining steam. The post Print Media Ain’t Dead: Reviving the Mountain Gazette appeared first on GearJunkie.

Send in your question via text to 1-800-485-3139. Question #1 (01:28): How do you navigate creating content in a small church where most of the ppl are camera shy? I've tried asking ppl for testimony, tried asking ppl how they felt about service, we even tried a segment where we highlight entrepreneurs in our congregation as a way to involve community. Overall, engagement is low both on and offline. How do I as the social media manager help turn it around? Question #2 (09:14): I've been trying to find some data and stats that prove converting our Catholic homilies into short form video would be worth the time it would take to do it. Do you happen to have any data or stats showing performance by churches who are doing this? More specifically, it would be great if it could be data from Catholic Churches. I hear everyone pitching to do it, but cannot find any data to show results. Not to sound all corporate, but what is the ROI? Question #3 (19:43): Here's a boring but helpful idea for a podcast question. Business card tips? We do a feeding the needy program and distribute business cards for people to know who we are and how to make contact. Tips? Question #4 (25:14): What are your hottest food takes?
