On this episode of The Tragically Hip On Shuffle, we landed on “Fully Completely,” the title track from The Tragically Hip's landmark 1992 album Fully Completely, and brought together Toronto Mike, Joe Cad of Forever Hip, and Duxoop Douglas to unpack it properly. This is a song that finished #13 in the fan-voted Top Forty Countdown and continues to hold a unique place in the Hip catalogue — not the loudest track on the record, but one that reveals itself more the longer you live with it. With Fully Completely sitting among some of the band's most iconic songs, this conversation digs into what makes the title track endure — structurally, emotionally, and personally — decades laterEpisode SummaryFrom the jump, the panel keeps circling back to how much weight “Fully Completely” carries in such a compact frame. jD points out the song's efficiency — how there's nothing wasted in its structure, lyrically or musically. It moves quickly but never feels slight. Instead, it builds tension through groove and restraint, creating something that feels dense despite its relatively short runtime.Toronto Mike situates the track within the broader context of the Fully Completely album, a record stacked with defining Tragically Hip songs like “Locked in the Trunk of a Car,” “Courage,” and “50 Mission Cap.” In that company, the title track can sometimes feel overshadowed, but he emphasizes how it stands on its own — particularly in live settings, where its emotional and musical arc becomes even more apparent.Joe Cad brings a performer's lens to the discussion, describing “Fully Completely” as his personal favorite Hip song. As the frontman of Forever Hip, he speaks to the physical and emotional experience of performing it, highlighting its gradual build and payoff. He describes it as a kind of musical ascent, where every section contributes to a sense of lift and release by the end.Duxoop Douglas reflects on discovering the song in a different way — through individual listens rather than as part of the original album rollout. His experience mirrors the premise of the show itself: rediscovering The Tragically Hip one song at a time. Over time, “Fully Completely” earned its place as a standout, not because it demanded attention immediately, but because it rewarded repeated listening.Interpretation becomes another thread running through the episode. The panel explores different readings of Gord Downie's lyrics, reinforcing how the song's meaning remains open and personal. Like many Hip songs, “Fully Completely” doesn't hand you a single answer — it leaves space for listeners to find themselves inside it.Topics Discussed• Why “Fully Completely” feels dense and efficient despite its short runtime• The song's place within the Fully Completely album and the Tragically Hip catalogue• Differences between studio and live performances of the track• Joe Cad's experience performing the song with Forever Hip• How listeners discover Hip songs outside of traditional album listening• The interpretive openness of Gord Downie's lyrics• The song's placement at #13 in the fan-voted Top Forty CountdownPull Quote“It's very economical. I don't know that there's 150 words in it. And yet it feels fucking dense, pound for pound.”About Our Guest(s)Toronto MikeToronto Mike is the host of Toronto Mike'd, a long-running podcast featuring interviews with musicians, media personalities, and cultural figures. Adam grew up playing cricket in the streets around his home with mates. He joined his local club in Leeds, Alwoodley aged 5 and fell in love with the game and the place straight away. He overcame a nasty knee injury aged 15 which led to multiple operations and this led to him starting to coach for the first time which he found equally rewarding. From this point forwards he found his way into education and teaching whilst still coaching and is now at the forefront of an opportunity that will see cricket reintroduced into state schools across the North West. He talks openly about the importance of building valuable ecosystems, communities and eco systems all of which are so key to developing something good. Learn more about your ad choices. This week we will discuss how in the 1970s, Fort Worth felt safe — until one ordinary night, after a Valentine's dance, shattered that illusion. A teenage girl vanished, the investigation stalled, and the people who loved her were left waiting as years quietly turned into decades. In this episode, we revisit a Texas cold case about the disappearance and murder of 17-year-old Carla Walker. And how discovering the truth was shaped by the limits of its time, examine how evolving forensic science would eventually force the truth into the open, and explore what happens when justice arrives long after the damage is done. It's a story about memory, time, and the danger of believing we truly know the people around us — and how easily fact can become distorted once a case is finally solved.Sources:Associated Press. “Man Convicted in 1974 Murder of Texas Teen After DNA Breakthrough.” AP News, Associated Press, 2021, https://apnews.com.Dallas Morning News. “Carla Walker Cold Case: DNA Solves 46-Year-Old Fort Worth Murder.” The Dallas Morning News, 2020–2021, https://www.dallasnews.com.Federal Bureau of Investigation. “Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).” FBI, https://www.fbi.gov/services/laboratory/biometric-analysis/codis.Fort Worth Police Department. “Cold Case: Carla Jan Walker.” Fort Worth Police Department, press releases and public statements, 2020.Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “After 46 Years, Arrest Made in Carla Walker Murder.” Fort Worth Star-Telegram, 2020–2021, https://www.star-telegram.com.Inside Edition. “DNA Breakthrough Solves 1974 Murder of Teen Carla Walker.” Inside Edition, 2020, https://www.insideedition.com.National Institute of Justice. “Using DNA to Solve Cold Cases.” NIJ, U.S. Department of Justice, https://nij.ojp.gov.Texas True Crime Blog. “The Murder of Carla Walker.” Texas True Crime, https://txtruecrimeblog.com.Tarrant County District Attorney's Office. “Glen McCurley Convicted of Murder in Carla Walker Cold Case.” Tarrant County District Attorney, 2021.

Fully & Completely: ReduxEpisode 104 — Fully Completely (1992)A presentation of The Tragically Hip Podcast SeriesHosted by jD and Greg LeGrosClass is officially back in session. In Episode 104, Fully & Completely returns as Fully & Completely: Redux — our weekly, album-by-album wander through the studio catalogue of The Tragically Hip.This week: Fully Completely (1992). The one that didn't just kick the door down — it blew the whole damn car up.And because this is Redux, you get it in two parts:First, a short present-day catch-up with jD and Greg — sitting in the “easy chairs by the fireplace” version of adulthood — reminiscing about what this record felt like then, what it feels like now, and why it still hits like a masterclass. Then we drop into the classic Fully & Completely episode, now re-edited, re-mixed, and re-mastered — the same deep dive, but cleaned up, tightened up, and sounding better in your headphones. From the jump, the conversation is rooted in why this album became a cultural object in Canada: six singles, nonstop video rotation, and that feeling that you couldn't escape it — even if you tried. Not because of CanCon. Because people wanted it.We get into why Locked in the Trunk of a Car is such a strange (and perfect) lead single, the confidence of a band shifting from “beloved” to “the band,” and how the record meant to help crack America ended up being, arguably, their most Canadian statement up to that point.Along the way: 1992 as a time capsule (good, bad, and bananas), the shifting musical landscape, and how Gord's writing starts leaning harder into Canadian stories, mythology, and history — without turning into novelty. It's huge. It's dusty. It's intense. And it still holds up top to bottom. In This EpisodeThe Redux intro: jD + Greg reunite, reminisce, and talk about how this record lands nowWhy Fully Completely felt unavoidable in Canada (six singles, constant rotation)1992 as a time capsule — culture, headlines, and a wildly stacked year in musicThe jump in sound: new producer, bigger rooms, bigger ambition, bigger “world stage” vibeThe American push that got pulled after two weeks — and what that meantGord's shift into Canada-as-myth + Canada-as-story songwritingParty guitars, campfires, and why we all somehow still know that songTrack-by-track highlights including:Courage and the Hugh MacLennan connectionLocked in the Trunk of a Car and the bootleg “bonus for the nerds”At the Hundredth Meridian as a national singalong momentWheat Kings as the great Canadian makeout song you probably shouldn't make out toDeep cuts love for Eldorado and the title track's intensityAlbum DiscussedFully Completely (1992)Produced by Chris TsangaridesSix singles. In this research review episode of the By Any Means Coaches Podcast, the conversation dives deep into the impact of scaled equipment—lower rims, smaller basketballs, and modified environments—on youth basketball development. Through the lens of current research and the constraints-led approach, the episode challenges long-held assumptions about “toughening kids up” with regulation equipment and instead explores how properly scaled tasks can accelerate skill acquisition, improve movement quality, and foster long-term engagement with the game.Beyond shooting percentages, this episode explores how scaled environments influence biomechanics, perception, psychology, and decision-making. From earlier emergence of adult-like mechanics to increased confidence, creativity, and adaptability, the discussion highlights why many technical “flaws” are actually functional solutions to poorly designed tasks—and how fixing the environment often fixes the movement without excessive coaching cues.Episode Timestamps00:00 – Introduction and context for the research review 00:26 – Why scaled equipment is worth revisiting through research 01:40 – Overview of studies and research synthesis approach 02:07 – Performance vs development vs psychology 02:42 – Key findings from the research 03:55 – Shooting mechanics, arc, and energy transfer 04:42 – Trunk lean, elbow flare, and acceptable technique ranges 05:54 – Why mechanics improve without technical instruction 06:24 – Psychological benefits: confidence, enjoyment, and volume 07:31 – Motivation, success, and long-term engagement 08:11 – Spacing and offensive behavior in scaled environments 09:02 – Finishing degrees of freedom and creativity 09:42 – Movement exploration with smaller basketballs 11:09 – Early developer bias created by regulation equipment 12:13 – Compensation vs challenge in youth shooting 12:38 – Depth perception and shooting range development 13:46 – Adaptability vs rigid technique 14:17 – Constraints-led approach applied to shooting 15:39 – Why many shooting drills are compensatory fixes 16:26 – Observational learning and imitation 18:05 – Finding the optimal challenge point 19:20 – External focus and freer shooting behavior 20:11 – Rhythm, sequencing, and adaptable skill development 20:37 – Practical coaching implications 21:44 – What to do when scaled equipment isn't available 22:38 – Playing athletes up or down based on physical maturity 23:14 – Supplementing constraints with cues and observation 24:57 – Sport crossover effects and task design solutions 25:34 – Final takeaways and practical applicationsCoaching Resources: https://www.byanymeansbasketball.comBAM Blueprint Book: https://www.byanymeansbasketball.com/bam-blueprintIf this episode challenged the way you think about youth development: share it with a coach or parent who needs to hear it. This week, Pastor Jared talks about the importance of acknowledging one's sins and bringing them to God in order to experience true liberation and fellowship with Him. The sermon also touches on the nature of temptation and the ongoing struggle between flesh and spirit.
The core isn't a muscle. It's a function.Day 14 focuses on core stability — the ability to control the trunk so force can be transferred efficiently between the upper and lower body.True core stability isn't about endless sit-ups or bracing as hard as possible. It's about maintaining position while the limbs move, resisting unwanted motion, and creating the right amount of tension at the right time.In this session, you'll develop:Trunk control in static and dynamic positionsThe ability to resist extension, rotation, and lateral flexionEfficient breathing under loadIntegration of the core with hips and shouldersCore stability underpins everything — lifting, running, jumping, striking, and carrying. When it's missing, strength leaks, posture collapses, and compensations appear elsewhere in the body. This day also reinforces the idea that stability is context-specific. The core's job changes depending on the task, and training should reflect that. You'll work through patterns that challenge control without unnecessary fatigue.Strong doesn't mean rigid.Stable doesn't mean stiff.Controlled movement creates power.Day 14 solidifies the centre of the system.Shaun Kober is a Mindset & Performance Specialist, with a unique skillset forged in the trenches, through the various stages of life."I shouldn't be in the position I am right now." Most real-world movement happens in rotation.Day 13 focuses on rotational stability — the ability to control twisting forces through the trunk, hips, and shoulders while transferring force efficiently from the ground up.When rotational control is missing, power leaks, technique breaks down, and stress ends up in places it doesn't belong — often the lower back, hips, or shoulders. This session is about learning to resist rotation before you try to produce it.You'll work through patterns that develop:Trunk control against rotational and anti-rotational forcesCoordination between hips and shouldersStable transitions between left and right sidesEfficient force transfer during athletic movementRotational stability is essential for lifting, running, throwing, striking, changing direction, and absorbing contact. Without it, strength stays isolated instead of integrated. This day also reinforces an important sequence: control first, then expression. By owning rotational positions and resisting unwanted movement, you create a platform for safe, powerful rotation later in training and sport.Expect slow, deliberate reps and plenty of feedback. Quality matters more than speed on this day.Control the twist.Connect the system.Protect your power.Day 13 strengthens the links that keep everything working together.Shaun Kober is a Mindset & Performance Specialist, with a unique skillset forged in the trenches, through the various stages of life."I shouldn't be in the position I am right now." Mobility gives you options.Stability lets you use them.Day 8 focuses on full body stability — the ability to control joints, positions, and posture under load, movement, and fatigue. Without stability, mobility becomes wasted range and strength leaks show up where you least want them. This session is about connecting the system. You'll work through patterns that challenge:Trunk and pelvic controlShoulder and hip stabilityContralateral and cross-body coordinationThe ability to resist unwanted movement before creating forceFull body stability isn't about bracing harder — it's about sequencing, timing, and awareness. Learning when to hold tension, when to relax, and how to transfer force efficiently from the ground through the body. This day also reinforces one of the key principles of the RAMP Package: control precedes power. When stability improves, strength becomes cleaner, movement becomes more efficient, and injury risk drops.Expect slow, intentional reps.Expect moments of challenge.Expect better movement quality.Stability is what allows you to express speed, strength, and endurance safely.Own the position.Control the transition.Build the foundation.Day 8 locks the system together.Shaun Kober is a Mindset & Performance Specialist, with a unique skillset forged in the trenches, through the various stages of life."I shouldn't be in the position I am right now." We get into our Mens Room Question: Good or bad, why were the police talking to you?
In the case of Celeste Rivas-Hernandez, nothing is simple — not the timeline, not the condition of the remains, and certainly not the path forward for investigators. Celeste was missing for over a year before her decomposed, partially dismembered remains were found in the front trunk of a Tesla tied to public figure D4vd. Early reporting suggested freezing; LAPD later clarified the body was not frozen when discovered, leaving open the possibility of prior storage. The autopsy is under a full security hold. A grand jury is reviewing evidence behind closed doors. Multiple people have lawyered up — and still, no arrest. Tonight we break down why “a body in your car” is NOT automatically probable cause for homicide, how decomposition complicates cause-of-death findings, why digital forensics from Tesla telemetry can take time, and what investigators actually need before charges can land. Retired FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer walks us through the forensic obstacles, the legal tightropes, and the hard truth: this case may hinge on a timeline investigators are still trying to piece together. #CelesteRivasHernandez #HiddenKillers #TrueCrimeNews #Investigation #JenniferCoffindaffer #CrimeUpdate #TeslaCase #MissingPersons #TrueCrimeCommunity Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? NO INSERTED ADS: www.patreon.com/dopeypodcastThis week on Dopey! In this unbelievably heavy episode, Dave sits with Glynis as she unpacks a lifetime of addiction, trauma, and survival that spans Massachusetts, Texas, L.A., jail, pimping culture, meth psychosis, fentanyl, gang life, and ultimately federal prison. Glynis describes early emotional wounds, resentment toward her mother, the “magnet” pull of addiction, and how heroin became the only place she ever felt OK. She talks about couch-surfing and freezing nights in Boston, smoking meth for the first time in Texas, disappearing on multi-day runs, underground game rooms, GHB comedowns, and getting sucked into the world of pimps, sex work, and Money Mike — a relationship built on psychological control, fear tactics, and the twisted logic of “pimp and ho culture.”Her story escalates into car thefts, robberies, abscesses, neck shots, living in trap motels, being handcuffed to a sink by gang members, and eventually becoming a renegade escort in L.A., buying ounces and then pounds of fentanyl off Skid Row. Glynis explains how she was recruited to smuggle undocumented people across the border — driving a Mercedes with people hidden in the trunk while cartel-connected spotters fed her instructions through Bluetooth. She's arrested, violently kicks fentanyl in federal custody, falls from a bunk, hits her head, and becomes cross-eyed for months. COVID lockdown hits prison, she begins praying out of desperation, and she's unexpectedly released early. Dumped into a chaotic men's sober house, she meets “Jimmy the Poet,” the only sober person there, and for the first time listens when someone suggests recovery. Glynis begins 12-step work, finds community, and slowly becomes a stable, married, sponsoring adult who can finally say she didn't stay broken forever. All that and way more on a rough and tough new episode of the good old dopey show!
