Is Halloween harmless fun, a spiritual battleground, or something in between? In this episode of Pod Have Mercy, John Stephens sits down with Joseph Patty, Director of Student Ministries at Chapelwood, for a thoughtful (and often funny) conversation about how people of faith can approach Halloween with nuance and grace. From animism and All Saints' Day to trick-or-treating and Dia de los Muertos, they explore how Christians can honor the past, engage the present, and teach the next generation to see light in the midst of shadows. Along the way, they unpack the thin veil between life and death, share stories of family traditions, and ask what it really means to be “faithfully present” in our culture.Whether you're turning off the porch light or heading out for Trunk or Treat, this episode will help you see the holiday and the holy days that surround it with new eyes.

There's a place even deeper than The Ninth Circle of Hell and it's called the Anointing The Sick Metal Blog and what could be more apt than opening the show with a band called Horrible with a track off their album 'Filth then following up with some nihilistic party slop from deathsters Trunk, both albums can be purchased for NYP on Bandcamp. There's a heavy stoner/doom/psych presence this week including albums from Dusted Angel and Stone Machine Electric that entered September's Doom Charts. If you are interested in a thread where the topic of conversation is almost exclusively about the crafting, this is a great thread for you! It also moves a bit slower than the main huddle thread, so a little easier to keep up. I find perusing this thread to be great for inspiration. It brings a smile to my face to see other players' projects coming to life. This week, I realized that player Scitchr is making 5 adorable animals. She is making them all Buffalo Bills clothing! So far, she has made an otter, a woodland duck, a hedgehog, and a woodland badger! You must check them out...they are so adorable. Plus, she plans on making them Halloween costumes! Speaking of Halloween costumes, Sandima made a Wednesday (from Addams' Family) costume for her porch goose: https://www.ravelry.com/projects/sandima/goostavo-porch-goose-sweater So cute! In other news...players are busy with the three challenges that are going on right now: * 25 players have already submitted for points for pink challenge, with 5 players already submitting 2 entries! * over 50 players have submitted for points for the Q1 challenge, with over 15 of them already submitting 2 entries! * 2 people have already submitted for points for the charity challenge! Don't forget you still have plenty of time to participate in these challenges! Events Indie Untangled. October 17 CAKEpalooza. October 17 A Woolen Affair. October 17 NY Sheep & Wool (aka Rhinebeck). This week on the Gnar Couch Podshow, we hang with rampage-riding legend CJ Ceilig. Okay, she's not legendary yet, but she will be after this podcast. She somehow makes a terrible sausage party pod team actually worth listening to. She's a Eurotah-bouncing, breakfast sandwich-dodging shredder who's done it all. From bluffing her way through a bike-shop job (“Derailleur? Totally pasta.”) to leading teams at Five Ten and Reverse Components, CJ's story is equal parts hilarious and inspiring. We talk about the chaos of Rampage prep, the magic and madness of Virgin, Utah, and the glamorous side of living in a van, which may or may not include neighbors who poop in buckets. If you're here for serious bike discussion, you're in the wrong place. But if you love grit, humor, and real stories from the freeride desert and beyond, hit play. Guest info: CJ Celig Check out our store for sick shirts. Got to our Patreon and give us money. Midlife updates, business pivots, and a true crime twist you won't see coming. In this walk-and-talk episode, Chalene Johnson shares candid family updates, why she stepped away from certain businesses, and how betrayal trauma can shake your ability to trust. She opens up about stories listeners sent in after her recent financial fraud episode and even weighs in on the oversharing of grandkid photos (yep, someone had to say it). Plus, she breaks down the mysterious case involving an indie singer that's all over the news.
