Jon Cryer is a candid truthteller and conversationalist! If you saw the new Charlie Sheen Netflix documentary, aka Charlie Sheen, you know what I'm talking about. Hang out with the Pretty in Pink, Two and a Half Men, Supergirl actor and me for a talk filled with inside Hollywood stories about the Brat Pack, Charlie Sheen, Demi Moore and more. Find out who Jon dated, who rejected him, why he almost quit the business and why having a therapist as the host of this show is just perfect. This talk is from 2024. I'm re-releasing it today because of (1) the doc and (2) there's been wrinkle in my plan to kickoff my lineup of brand-new episodes starting today. It involves hiring a team to help and it not quite running according to plan. These things happen. It's frustrating. But it's life. Gotta fix it and move forward. The new lineup will indeed kick off soon. Just not today. So please enjoy Jon Cryer in the meantime. Coming soon: Many new episodes, including Cesar Millan, Eric Roberts and Kaja Sokola, who testified against Harvey Weinstein in his recent New York City trial. Thanks for listening. Hi friends, welcome back to Really Famous. It's been a minute, I know. Thank you for sticking with me when my release schedule got, shall we say, a bit looser than usual. Well, I'm here with good news. I'm back with more content than ever. While you've been waiting patiently for new episodes to appear in Apple Podcasts or Spotify or whatever your preferred podcast app is (thank you!), I've been busy behind the scenes. First, I partnered with YouTube. They connected me with an in-house YouTube pro, put me through a few boot camps and welcomed me into their YouTube creator community. I also recruited top talent working with very successful podcasters to help me give you even more rich conversations with fascinating people than I did before. You'll get new podcasts every week. Plus extra bonus videos on YouTube. On Instagram, TikTok and Facebook, you'll see new footage and clips and insights on the regular. It's the same podcast. Same vibe. Same me. But it'll feel like we're hanging out more. Welcome back. The first new episode is next week. I'm back at Cesar Millan's Dog Psychology Center in California for an updated talk with the Dog Whisperer himself. Well, kind of the Dog Whisperer. The name is part of a legal battle that we'll get an update on. Cesar also opens up about why he went to Will Smith for help. Yep. Will Smith. Cesar talks about who he's dating now. The struggles he's been dealing with lately. And why he'd never repeat the relationship his parents have. Oh and I ask him about rumors swirling around him – because word on the street is that Cesar Millan is in prison. Or worse. This month you'll also get a talk with Eric Roberts, one of the most prolific actors out there. Of COURSE I ask him about Julia Roberts. And of course he opens up. We also talk about a personal problem that's taken him years of therapy to figure out. Later this month, you'll hear from someone totally different from anyone who's been on the show. She has a big story to tell. And it involves someone you know. Today I'm releasing this talk Anthony LaPaglia and I had a couple of years ago. It seemed to get lost in the shuffle and it's too good to go under the radar. So I'm putting it out there for you as a “welcome back” sort of thing. I'm into it. I think you will be too. It's also on YouTube, by the way. Which, as it turns out, is now the #1 place where people get their podcasts. Did you know that?!? Surprising, right? AND a ton of people watch podcasts on YouTube podcasts on their TVs. They may be doing something in the background, like cooking or cleaning or catching up on emails, I'm not entirely sure. But it's pretty cool. So if you want to give that a try, head to YouTube.com/ReallyFamous. You'll see a bunch of playlists on my channel, including one that says PODCAST. Click play and boom, you're in. And you'll see many more videos with my celebs as well. It's a smorgasboard. Take anything you like! And enjoy! Here's Anthony LaPaglia. Talk to you next week on the podcast. And even sooner on YouTube and my socials if you visit me there. Cheers! And go watch Betsy's Wedding, please. We talked about the story of Dorothy Stratten's murder as directed by Bob Fosse, Star 80. It's a film with a palpable feeling of evil in every frame, due in large part to Eric Roberts' masterfully sleazy performance. Then, Malcolm regaled us with his stories of European travel. This week, we're riding the rails and talking about 1986's "Runaway Train." We get into how a train movie based on a story by Akira Kurosawa, co-written by former felon Eddie Bunker, and starring Jon Voight and Eric Roberts (both doing ridiculous accents) became one of the best Cannon films of the '80s. Listen now.

Your Stupid Minds comes at you with our first foray into the filmography of Canadian auteur Frank D'Angelo. Off the heels of his infamous Sicilian Vampire, Frank brings back his menagerie of geriatric Hollywood stars to investigate the kidnapping of the American ambassador's daughter in The Red Maple Leaf (2016). The synopsis will be difficult since we suspect Frank locked in his cast before finishing the script, so there are big names with absolutely nothing to do whose scenes could have been excised entirely and it would have made the movie more coherent. Special Agent Alfonso Palermo (D'Angelo) is the best detective in Canada. His wife (Mira Sorvino) and daughter (Addison Holley) are killed in a car accident that leaves him miraculously without so much as a bruise. He mourns their loss through binge drinking and working really hard (because he's so good at his job). When the U.S. Ambassador to Canada's (Michael Paré) daughter is kidnapped, Al is sent in to investigate. He immediately starts antagonizing the dad, since he had an affair before. Well, he of course turns out to be right and his infidelities are the cause of the kidnapping. But we don't know that until Frank ambles through the film lackadaisically talking to a series of octogenarian Oscar winners and nominees. Featuring James Caan as a U.S. Senator, Kris Kristofferson as the President, Martin Landau as some driver, Paul Sorvino as Al's (not Mira Sorvino's) dad, Robert Loggia as some former governor, Doris Roberts as his wife, and Margot Kidder as his psychologist. Everyone I just mentioned is now deceased. Doris Roberts and Robert Loggia died before the movie came out. Among the alive stars includes Armand Assante, Eric Roberts, and Daniel Baldwin.

If you're in the mood for a mid-altitude crisis that checks every air disaster box without ever pushing the emergency slide of insanity, Rough Air: Danger on Flight 534 is the in-flight entertainment you never asked for—but might not mind watching with a bag of stale pretzels. This 2001 made-for-TV thriller stars Eric Roberts, who delivers one of the most aggressively disinterested performances in a movie about a plummeting death tube ever recorded. And yet, somehow, the film still finds a way to stay airborne as an enjoyable slice of light turbulence TV cheese. The plot is your standard disaster blueprint: a disgraced pilot (Roberts) is pulled out of aviation exile to take over a flight after the captain suffers a sudden heart attack mid-flight. Cue the typical cabin drama: nervous passengers, a weepy stewardess, shaky controls, a storm system on the radar, and the always-welcome fuel crisis. But instead of going full barrel roll into each disaster trope, the film kind of… brushes up against them. It starts to nosedive into clichés and then levels off just before impact, leaving you wondering if it's building to something bigger. (Spoiler: it's not.) What really sells the surreal mediocrity of the movie is Eric Roberts, who is not so much phoning it in as texting it in from a burner phone. His emotional range here is somewhere between “waiting at the DMV” and “mildly annoyed a vending machine ate his dollar.” The stakes may be life or death, but Roberts plays it like he's watching a curling match and doesn't know the rules. He's not wooden. He's laminated indifference. Still, there's something kind of comforting about the movie's half-hearted commitment to disaster movie glory. It never crashes and burns, nor does it soar. It just floats in the airspace of “pretty okay.” If you're a fan of “Fly Hard” flicks—where troubled pilots, stormy skies, and panicked passengers do their dance—this is a breezy 86-minute ride. Just don't expect to remember anything about it once you've deplaned.

Today on Too Opinionated, singer Zara Phillips comes back for another visit. Somebody's Daughter - and the 2018 book and 2022 one-woman show the film is based on – focusses on Zara's personal journey of overcoming early addiction, navigating her life and meeting her birth father after many years and struggles after connecting with her birth mother. The project's true driving force is tofacilitate honest, vulnerable conversations about adoption. Too many people, she says, are ignoring these important issues. In addition to acting and writing, Zara is also a talented singer and songwriter who launched her career in the 80s, appearing in music videos and providing backing vocals on tour with Bob Geldof, Matt Bianco, David Essex and Nick Kamen. While taking some years away from creative endeavors to raise a family, she came back strong in the 2000s, releasing two albums(When The Rain Stops and You. Me & Us) produced by Ted Perlman, whose multi-faceted musical resume includes Whitney Houston, Bob Dylan and Chicago; earning a Best Homegrown Documentary honor for her 2008 film Roots Unknown at the Garden State Film Festival; and publishing in 2008 her first book Mother Me, a compelling memoir about her ongoing struggles as an adoptee now raising a family of her own. A few years later, Zara's song “I'm Legit,” co-written with Darryl McDaniels (DMC of Run-DMC), was a successful single in the adoption world and beyond. In 2014, Zara's one woman show Beneath My Father's Sky, directed by Eliza and Eric Roberts won Best Direction at NYC's United Solo Festival and was performed in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Connecticut and London in 2016. During this era, she was presented with an Angel in Adoption Award by the Congressional Coalition of Adoption Institute. Her most recent album, released in 2020, is Meditation and Kitkats, and she currently tours and performs with her husband, British folk-rock legend Richard Thompson, who scored Somebody's Daughter. Eric & Eliza RobertsTake a walk with me down Fascination Street, as I get to know Eric & Eliza Roberts. You know Eric from over 800 acting projects: including The Pope Of Greenwich Village, Runaway Train, The Specialist, The Righteous Gemstones, Star 80, King of the Gypsies, and several hundred more. You know his wife Eliza from many, many projects like: The Howdy Doody Show, Animal House, Lois & Clark, and Dr. Who; as well as casting and producing in a myriad of other film and television projects. In this episode, we get to know where and how each of them grew up, and what got them into the industry. We also get to hear their love story. I love finding out how couples met, and this is a great story! Next, we launch into everything from movies and TV shows, and their experiences on those sets. Eliza shares stories of trying to help spouses & girlfriends of actors feel more comfortable with their partners doing love scenes. Eric shares behind the scenes stories on the sets of The Specialist (with Sylvester Stallone), and The Expendables. Eric then gets Eliza to share stories of helping get George Clooney cast in E.R, and even helping to convince John Travolta to accept his role in Quinton Tarantino's Pulp Fiction! We discuss Eliza's kids (Eric's step kids); one has Pi Bakeshop in Los Angeles, and the other is a VERY accomplished musician. Naturally, we discuss Eric's experiences on the most recent season of Dancing With The Stars, and Eliza explains how KISS's Gene Simmons helped shorten Eric's time in the competition. Lastly, we talk about the book! 'Runaway Train: Or, The Story Of My Life So Far' is Eric Robert's memoir (with Sam Kashner). We chat about why he decided to write the book, and how much help Eliza was in getting him to do it, and actually getting it made. This is a real Hollywood POWER COUPLE! They share the workload, and the credit. It was super sweet getting to see them pass the credit to each other.

Our discussion highlights not only his impressive body of work but also the challenges and triumphs he faced while navigating the industry. Spider shares how he kicked off his career by selling his first film at just 23 and how he has managed to maintain his momentum through continually adapting to the shifting landscape of Hollywood. We explore the creative journey behind "Down Below," which features an impressive cast including Eric Roberts and Doug Jones. Spider recounts the unique production timeline, taking over two years to complete due to the pandemic's impact on shooting schedules and actor availability. He candidly discusses the learning experiences that shaped this project, highlighting the importance of resilience and the drive to see a vision come to life despite numerous hurdles. The conversation touches on the value of storytelling over production quality. Spider emphasizes that despite working with tight budgets, prioritizing a strong narrative can profoundly impact audience engagement. This philosophy led him to focus on producing feature films rather than getting bogged down by the often fruitless pursuit of financing high-quality short films. His experiences reinforce the notion that creating compelling stories is the true essence of filmmaking and essential for burgeoning creators seeking to break into the industry. Spider reflects on the importance of maintaining momentum in creative endeavors. He explains how staying in constant motion—be it through writing multiple scripts or navigating opportunities—can prevent the stagnation that often leads to discouragement. He provides practical advice for aspiring filmmakers, encouraging them to follow their passion projects while being open to industry trends, especially the growing market for horror films. As a passionate advocate for connection in the filmmaking community, Spider highlights the significance of mentorship and the role of his family in his journey. Spider expresses hope for future international distribution, reflecting his continued commitment to sharing his work with audiences worldwide.
