Christy Monroe is not only a stripper, but a nationally touring headlining comedian, architect, author, martial artist, and so much more. She’s had one of the wildest lives out there and talks to Bunnie about how she made positive out of the negative, including the somewhat illegal. She talks about her horrific childhood trauma, her book Something Ridiculous, and how she blends her stripping and comedy together on stage. Takeaways: Christy wrote her book, Something Ridiculous, as a way to remind people they aren’t alone. Her father committed suicide when she was a child, and the domino effect from it all led to trauma with abuse, sex trafficking, and human slavery. Something Ridiculous discloses some pretty intense things, but it’s Christy’s truth and important to learn from it so we can protect and save others. After Christy escaped the pedophilia and being locked in a basement for 8 months, she attended school for architecture and paved her own path of healing and success. She also started teaching martial arts. The first stripper names are the best. Christy’s was the simple Katie, while Bunnie’s was Martell, after the liquor. Christy thought she was just going to strip one night, but the $1400 she made on her first day certainly changed her mind quickly. Christy is now a headlining stand-up comedian and just finished up a month-long tour. She loves performing and her comedy is just her being herself and saying out loud the thoughts she usually thinks on the pole or the stage. Quotes: “The entire point of the book is to make people feel less alone.” “If there is one thing that Brian the pedophile taught me, it’s that no one on the planet does their job.” “I’m a pretty lazy stripper, I work like once a week tops.” Mentioned: George Church Scarlett’s Cabaret FreeMics Stripper Comedy | Instagram | Twitter Something Ridiculous Check out Bunnie: @xomgitsbunnie BunnieXo @officialdumbblonde

Christy Monroe, The Stripper Comedian, is a New York City-based nationally touring comedian and exotic dancer. Drawing from her experiences as an exotic dancer, her comedy provides a unique perspective into a world most people are curious but know little about. She's headlined as far as Hawaii, appeared on the Howard Stern Show, and has appeared on Burning Bridges with Kevin Brennan. With Dan Naturman and Boris Khykin.
In Episode 39 Kevin & Sully had a chance to meet Christy Monroe, "The Stripper Comedian". Christy has had much success in the comedy world, in a very quick time. She started out leaving her home at the very early age of 15 and becoming an emancipated minor at the age of 16 in Arizona. She began her college career then as well. With that experience she feels as though even being 18 years old, is too young to attend college because most kids haven't found themselves yet. Kevin starts right out asking how she got into comedy and obviously the name or idea behind what she does. Christy says that she had a failed marriage and moved to South Florida where she became a stripper about 3-4 years ago. She learned she was a great entertainer very quickly and realized she was capable of more, so she turned to the stand up comedian stage. She called herself "The Stripper Comedian" because that was what she talked about, stripping, and having fun with it. After the first few times of being on stage and not doing well, a few other comedian friends boosted her up and gave her advice on what and what not to do during an act. She heeded that advice and has success ever since. She travels the country now and does shows at all types of venues. She's even traveled as far as Hawaii to do shows. Christy discusses how hard it is to be in comedy with the pressures of telling jokes that may offend people. She talks about reverse racism being prevalent in the industry and how it shouldn't be that way. There are certain types of jokes for different people, and people need to realize that before walking into a show. She discusses a rough upbringing and how she ended up where she is at in her life now. Kevin & Sully talk a bit in regards to the most successful people are experts at failing and that shows a lot in a situation like Christy's. They briefly discuss the political climate and how that intersects with the comedy industry and how things need to change in society as a whole.
