Our favorite group of boss babes returned from space this week, and the internet had thoughts! Jodi and Nora start with some rapid-fire micro-obsessions, including pop culture anniversaries, a fun week in sports (shout-out to the WNBA draft and the Masters), and the shocking reveal that Nurse Jesse from 'The Pitt' used to drum for Rooney (1:40). Then, Jodi and Nora touch on the unhinged Pitchfork reviews coming out of Coachella's first weekend (27:16). Then, the ladies go full galaxy brain over our cringe space girls—why did Gayle King look so miserable? Like Katy Perry theorized, did this space mission, in fact, save the Earth? Joe Hart kijkt, maar kan niets doen. De bal slaat in het net. Old Trafford beeft.City-spelers staan verstijfd. April 2, 2025 - Season 15, Episode 114 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right to discussing what all Pittsburgh Steelers team president Art Rooney II had to say on Tuesday during his media session at the NFL's owners' meetings in Florida. Rooney talked about where things currently sit with the team's pursuit of free agent QB Aaron Rodgers, the recent rule proposals that were voted on, and how he feels the team has done in free agency to date. We discuss several of those topics he commented on and more. The NFL's official records will finally incorporate All-America Football Conference statistics moving forward so Alex and I briefly discuss that bit of news to come out on Tuesday. Will the Steelers do anything with K Chris Boswell this offseason when it comes to his 2025 contract year? Alex and I attempt to answer that question and what things the Steelers might do should they decide to give Boswell more money in 2025. With the 2025 NFL Draft taking place later this month, Alex and I start to have more nuanced talks about the position groups. During this Wednesday show, Alex and I discuss the 2025 wide receiver draft class as it relates to the more prominent players. Moving on, we talk about where the Steelers might select a wide receiver in this year's draft, the type of wide receiver they might draft, and much more. We also discuss a few more wide receivers in this year's draft class we will be efforting to learn more about this next week. Later in this episode, Alex and I numerically rate the need at every position when it comes to the Steelers and the 2025 NFL Draft. It's a fun little exercise overall. This 135-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap as well. We end this show by answering several emails we have received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Saying that broke a longtime rule of the Rooney family – talking about a player that isn't on the roster. How much longer will this go? Art Rooney said the Steelers were one of the teams that voted to ban the ‘tush push.' We then took some calls on the Steelers love affair with Aaron Rodgers. Baseball prospect writer Keith Law from The Athletic joined the show. Keith doesn't think Thomas Harrington, who is making his MLB debut tonight, is a Top 100 prospect on his board. He said Harrington does locate his pitches very well, but doesn't have a strong out-pitch. Keith thinks Harrington could be a #4 starter this year. Keith talked about what Harrington can do to become a better arm at the Major League level. The Pirates also made a trade last night with the Mets – acquiring Alexander Canario, who has shown minor league power in his career so far. Keith likes the move because their system lacks power and pop. Keith said the bar is pretty low for the Pirates, which means Canario is the perfect type of guy the organization should be picking up. Keith had a few remarks about Konnor Griffin, the Pirates 1st round pick from last season. Keith got into some of the issues the Pirates have had taking chances on guys that don't mesh with what they can develop.

From hiring Wayne Rooney as manager to knocking Liverpool out of the FA Cup, it's been a crazy season for Plymouth and CEO Andrew Parkinson. Even more so when the club finds itself bottom of the championship fighting for survival. But this is a club that continually outperforms its budget, competing against teams with 6x bigger budgets, and that's what we want to get into today. How do you build success in a football club when you can't rely on money to win?  On today's show we discuss: Economics of a Championship Team: How do Plymouth compare to their rivals when it comes to the financial resources at their disposal? What does a club in the bottom half of the table generate in revenue? How much can they afford to spend on player budgets? The importance of having multiple budgets for multiple scenarios: facing the relegation reality. How much can a Championship team earn from sponsorship? Plymouth this Season: Hiring Wayne Rooney at the start of the season attracted a lot of attention; was it more than a PR move? …and what happens when you have to sack a manager? The competitive nature of the Championship and the importance of staying in the decision for both financial and player retention reasons The value beyond emotions of beating Liverpool and pushing Manchester City in the FA Cup Improve the Business of Football: Why Plymouth are looking for investment and what they would be able to do with an additional capital injection. Developing a high performing and well supported women's team is a priority, but should it be under the same banner as the men's? Does the 3pm blackout help or hinder football across the pyramid? Mark thinks Rodgers may just go back to Malibu and walk the beach after this because he is in no hurry. Will Rodgers get more than Sam Darnold got from Seattle? Mark gave his thoughts on Rodgers waiting this out all summer and possibly missing out on a team entirely. How much power will Rodgers want if he is signed? More w/ Mark – Mark shared some of the best high school basketball players he has ever seen. Mark doesn't think a deadline will be set on Aaron Rodgers after the Steelers met with him earlier today. Mark talked about the mix-ups that come about when sourcing through the Steelers. Mark said the only person that knows the answer is Aaron and he believes nobody else has the answer. More w/ Mark – Another snippet from the Aaron Rodgers story. The team and player have reportedly had contract parameters in place for some time now. Will there be a domino effect on the Rodgers' move, like a QB in the draft? Mark thinks Jaxson Dart is off the table – or at least he will be by the time we hit draft night. The guys discussed the possibility of the Steelers taking a QB in the later rounds no matter what happens. Mark believes it's bothering the Steelers, mostly Omar Khan, that the team does not own a 2nd round pick due to the DK Metcalf trade. Poni wanted to get Mark's thoughts on what Najee Harris has said since arriving in LA. Mark doesn't rule out the Steelers picking a RB in the 1st round this year. Mark isn't betting on Rodgers signing with the Steelers by the time we chat with him next Friday.

In this episode of The First Day podcast, host Bill Stanczykiewicz, Ed.D., is joined by Dr. Patrick Rooney, Emeritus Professor at the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, to discuss the ongoing debate over the Universal Charitable Deduction (UCD). With decades of expertise in philanthropy and economics, Dr. Rooney explains how tax incentives impact charitable giving, particularly in light of past tax reforms that significantly reduced the number of itemizing households. While many donors give based on personal values, research shows that financial incentives, like tax deductions, can encourage even greater generosity. Dr. Rooney and Bill dive into the latest UCD proposal currently moving through Congress, which suggests a deduction of up to $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for couples—substantially higher than previous temporary versions, which were limited to just a few hundred dollars. Rooney highlights research indicating that well-structured tax incentives can increase both the number of donors and the total amount given. While the proposal is still in flux, and there's no guarantee it will become law, he emphasizes that higher deduction limits could provide a strong incentive for charitable giving. The discussion also touches on donor psychology and the role of tax policy in philanthropic behavior. While tax breaks often rank low in surveys about giving motivations, donors tend to notice when those benefits disappear. Rooney suggests that many donors are motivated by a mix of altruism and financial awareness—wanting to do good while also considering the impact on their taxable income. He shares research showing that even a 25% tax credit could significantly boost giving, reinforcing the importance of tax policy in shaping philanthropic trends. For fundraisers, the key takeaway is to stay informed and prepared to discuss these potential changes with donors. While the legislative process is uncertain, fundraisers should be ready to explain how tax incentives can help donors maximize their giving impact. Bill closes the episode by emphasizing the broader importance of economic and policy literacy in nonprofit fundraising. He also highlights The Fundraising School's resources, including public courses, webinars, and the Achieving Excellence in Fundraising textbook, to help fundraisers stay ahead of policy changes and effectively engage donors.
