You can also see it on YouTube.Devin: What is your superpower?Jackson: I would say it's, it's having a mission, um, that you are very passionate about and your ability to kind of see through the next few steps, uh, you know, the road ahead. Um, but then recruiting the right people along the way.Farm to Pet is proving that a simple, single-ingredient dog treat can challenge the highly processed pet snack aisle while building a fast-growing business.Jackson Jones, founder and CEO of Farm to Pet, started with a problem close to home: he wanted something healthier for his dog, Rooney. During the pandemic, he began experimenting in his basement with a KitchenAid mixer, a dehydrator and a simple idea.He told me, “I wanted to create something that was what I considered the healthiest treat for my dog and had an idea that we could take a chicken breast, we could take a turkey breast, and we could dehydrate that and just literally use it and nothing else.”That “nothing else” became the heart of the Farm to Pet brand. The company makes single ingredient treats in a crunchy chip format that dogs love. Jackson explained the common reaction perfectly: “That's one of the first things people ask is, are you sure it only has one ingredient? What else do you put in there?”What began as a homemade snack for Rooney has grown into a vertically integrated pet treat company with national reach. Jackson moved from the basement into one facility after another, ultimately landing in a larger production space that allows the company to meet demand. Along the way, Farm to Pet built sales through local retailers, Amazon and other channels.I was struck by Jackson's candor about the challenge. “It wasn't an overnight success by any means,” he said. “It's been steps and steps along this journey.”For me, the human interest in this story is the combination of love for a pet, entrepreneurial persistence and a clean-label product that is easy for customers to understand. Pet parents increasingly want transparency. Jackson built the company around exactly that.Farm to Pet is also raising capital through a regulated investment crowdfunding campaign on StartEngine. Jackson said the campaign grew out of the need to fund more capacity while keeping the company in family control and inviting aligned investors into the journey. You can review the campaign at startengine.com/offering/farm-to-pet.I love seeing a purpose-driven consumer brand use community capital to grow. Jackson is not just selling treats. He is helping pet owners rethink what belongs in a dog's diet, one simple chip at a time.tl;dr:Jackson turned homemade chicken chips into the fast-growing Farm to Pet brand.Single ingredient treats provide a simple, healthy alternative to processed pet snacks.Farm to Pet is scaling operations with a focus on transparency and vertical integration.Jackson's leadership blends mission-driven passion, humility, team building, and trust.Practical insights for founders show how purpose and community can fuel business growth. How to Develop Mission-Driven Leadership As a SuperpowerJackson's superpower is mission-driven leadership. As he described it, the work starts with “having a mission…that you are very passionate about” and the ability “to kind of see through the next few steps.” Just as important, he said, is “recruiting the right people along the way.” Jackson was quick to emphasize that leadership also means humility. “It starts out, I think, by knowing what you're not naturally great at,” he said. For him, leadership is not about pretending to know everything. It is about building a team, listening, observing, changing his mind and giving talented people “the space and the time and the authority” to run with important work.Jackson illustrated this superpower through his early work with Miranda, who helped shape the company's social media and marketing. He admitted he did not know Instagram and was trying to DM people without much confidence. Rather than struggle alone, he invited Miranda to join the company and lead that work. She became a key part of the team, helping bring the crowdfunding campaign and brand story to life. Jackson's role was not to control every detail. It was to recognize talent, create space for ownership and let her strengths complement his own.Know what you are not naturally great at before trying to lead every function yourself.Build around a mission you care about deeply enough to sustain you through hard days.Look a few steps ahead so your team can prepare for growth before it arrives.Recruit people whose strengths fill your gaps and trust them with real responsibility.Listen carefully, observe what people enjoy and notice where they naturally excel.Give team members the space, time and authority to make decisions and own outcomes.Stay willing to change your mind when new information or better ideas emerge.Let go of work others can do better so you can focus on scaling the mission.By following Jackson's example and advice, you can make mission-driven leadership a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfileJackson Jones:Founder and CEO, Farm to PetAbout Farm to Pet: Farm to Pet is a premium pet treat company committed to producing healthy, single ingredient treats for dogs. At a Fleischmanns street fair, a bottle with a bright red label and bold white type — Station Navy Strength Gin — stops Brett at the Skillers booth. Owner James Rooney pours a taste and explains why British sailors once needed their gin strong enough that gunpowder would still ignite if it got splashed with the stuff. That bottle leads to a drive up to Lexington, NY, to see where it's made.Skillers Mountaintop Distillery occupies a small pre-fab barn in what started as Rooney's ski house property near Hunter. Kaatscast walks us through some of the New York state laws that made a small operation like his possible — the Micro Distillery Act of 2003, which cut licensing fees enough to let small producers in; the Farm Distillery Act of 2007, which let distillers open tasting rooms and sell direct, the way wineries already could; and the Craft New York Act of 2014, which simplified licensing further and let farm distilleries sell in satellite locations. In exchange, farm distilleries have to source at least 75% of their ingredients from New York — Skillers uses 100% New York corn as the base for all three of its spirits, filling in the small remainder with botanicals like coriander that can't be grown locally. The three bottles get a full tasting. Greywacke vodka takes its name from the bluestone bedrock under the Catskills, and Rooney credits its stony, mineral edge to Schoharie Creek water that's filtered through that rock. The navy strength gin, bottled at 57% ABV, is built specifically to survive being mixed into a Negroni without landing flat. And horilka — a honey and chili spirit named for the Ukrainian word for flower (kvitka) — nods to the area's Ukrainian community, using local honey and an ultrasonic extraction process to pull flavor from Thai chilies.Gin-smith Jeff Graham describes running the still, watching a batch drip for hours to yield about 20 gallons at a time. Marketing director Todd Spire talks about the tasting room's weekend acoustic music series. And we learn that Skillers spirits are now on shelves at Elevated Wines in Hunter and behind the bar at Small Talk in Woodstock and Peekamoose in Big Indian. Next up: a Skillers Negroni made entirely in-house, which means Rooney is now considering his own line of vermouth.FeaturingJames Rooney, founder and owner, Skillers Mountaintop DistilleryJeff Graham, gin smithTodd Spire, director of marketingRic Rawlins, tasting guestMusic: "Growing Up Catskills" by Josh Roy Brown, from the documentary of the same name.

In this episode, Troy breaks down the latest Barcelona preseason developments, the club's summer transfer activity, and the World Cup storylines that are shaping the mood around the team. Episode Highlights Barcelona's preseason has kicked off with medicals, fitness tests, and a strong focus on younger academy players. Hansi Flick is using the early camp period to evaluate youth talent and determine who can provide first-team depth. Barcelona's summer friendlies and preseason training setup include a closed-door match against CE Europa and training in England. The squad is still waiting on players returning from international duty after the World Cup final. Troy discusses several transfer and loan moves, including Inaki Peña, Ansu Fati, Ter Stegen, Rooney, Adeyemi, and Joao Cancelo. A major debate centers on whether Barcelona should pursue Julian Alvarez at the reported price. The episode closes with a look at the World Cup final, especially the impact of Barcelona players like Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí. Topics Covered 1. Barcelona Preseason BeginsTroy opens with the start of preseason under Hansi Flick and the value of early training sessions for younger players. He explains why this is an important chance for academy prospects to prove themselves. 2. Friendly Matches and Training PlansHe discusses the upcoming closed-door match against CE Europa, the possibility of staging it at Camp Nou, and the team's preseason trip to England, including training at St. George's Park and a friendly against Birmingham City. 3. Squad Depth and Youth DevelopmentBarcelona's reliance on the academy remains a major theme. Troy emphasizes the need for depth, especially as the club continues working through financial limitations. 4. Transfer News and RumorsThe episode covers movement involving Inaki Peña, Ansu Fati, Ter Stegen, Rooney, Adeyemi, Joao Cancelo, and Julian Alvarez. Troy gives his candid take on what the club should and should not pursue. 5. World Cup Final and Barca StarsTroy wraps up by celebrating Barcelona's presence in the World Cup final, highlighting the rise of Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí and what their performances mean for the club's future. Key Takeaways Barcelona's youth system remains crucial to the club's strategy. Hansi Flick's preseason decisions could shape the first-team squad for the season ahead. Barcelona's transfer business is active, but not every rumored move deserves the hype. Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsí are emerging as elite young talents on the global stage. Notable Quote “We are going to be able to watch these kids for the next 10 to 15 years… be absolute superstars for us.” Closing Thoughts This episode blends preseason optimism, transfer speculation, and World Cup excitement into a strong early-summer Barcelona update. It's a must-listen for fans wanting the latest on the squad's direction under Hansi Flick. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

As the group stage nears its conclusion, Rio looks at the players and teams that have impressed him the most whilst analysing England's midfield and revealing who initiated the first contact between Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney following the famous “wink” incident and Rooney's red card in the 2006 World Cup.Paul Scholes suggestion that Tuchel's focus on overpowering opposition means the midfield “doesn't look right” is discussed along with the improvements and changes Rio would make as the tournament progresses. Kobbie Mainoo is spoken about as the type of player that will help England dominate the ball, sustain more attacks and offer a different option for opening up defences.Following Jose Mourinho's comments about the “privilege” of managing the egos in the Real Madrid dressing room and the need for harmony after the problems within the camp last season - Rio makes a plea for Aurélien Tchouaméni to join Manchester United if he's in a position to leave Real Madrid. And when speaking about how Tchouaméni and Federico Valverde could re-integrate together into the Real Madrid squad (following their well-publicised bust up last season) he is reminded of the fallout from the incident where Cristiano Ronaldo winked after his Manchester United team mate Wayne Rooney was sent off in the 2006 World Cup match against Portugal.Brought to you in partnership with Airbnb. Cal State East Bay head basketball coach Bryan Rooney discussing his team's historic 33-1 season and their connecting style of play. Rooney explained how his team implemented the "tagging up" system where all five players engage in defensive rebounding immediately after shots go up, creating pressure defense and transition opportunities. He detailed how the system connects full-court and half-court defense, emphasizing that defensive engagement starts as soon as possessions are decided rather than waiting for specific situations.Bryan Rooney has won over 300 games and during the 2025-26 at East Bay, Rooney guided the team to a historic 33-1 record, a perfect 22-0 CCAA mark (first undefeated conference season in league history), CCAA and NCAA West Regional championships, and an Elite Eight appearance. For this performance he was named the 2026 Clarence “Big House” Gaines National Coach of the Year, NABC Division II National Coach of the Year, and CCAA Coach of the Year.Rooney discussed the importance of playing "complementary basketball" where offensive and defensive efforts support each other, and shared how they tracked metrics like corner touches and transition grading to monitor player development. He also explained how his coaching staff operated with defined roles, allowing Rooney to focus more on leadership rather than specific tactical decisions. The coach emphasized the program's focus on "transformative" player development and role clarity, noting that players were encouraged to understand their interconnected responsibilities rather than individual statistics.

In 2021, famed Irish author Sally Rooney declined to publish her book in Israel because there was no BDS-compliant publisher. At the time, she said she would be “pleased and proud” to have her books translated into Hebrew, as long as it was done in a way that respected the principles of the boycott. Last week, Rooney announced that she was publishing a Hebrew translation of her latest book, Intermezzo, with November Books and +972 Magazine. The publishers had been vetted by PACBI, the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel, and deemed BDS compliant. This means November Books does not operate in Israeli settlements, receives no state funding, and explicitly recognizes the Palestinian right of return. In The Guardian, Rooney said she “kept in touch with PACBI along the way to try to ensure that I was upholding both the letter and the spirit of the institutional boycott.”Immediately, there was backlash. Some Palestinian writers, including Mohammed El Kurd and Susan Abulhawa, questioned the decision to use this “loophole” in BDS guidelines to bring the book to Israeli audiences. Why now? And why this? Even if it adheres to the letter of the boycott, does it capture the spirit, as Rooney says? On this episode of On the Nose, Arielle Angel speaks with Ahmed Moor, a writer and fellow at the Foundation for Middle East Peace; Maya Rosen, assistant editor at Jewish Currents; and Muhammad Shehada, a writer from Gaza and a visiting fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations, about this tempest in a teapot surrounding the Hebrew translation of Intermezzo.
