I'm half-Welsh. My dad hails from cwmbran. And so presenting on Sky Sports News as Wales wound their way in magical fashion to the semi-finals of Euro 2016 is a treasured memory. A special summer - counterbalanced by the fact that I'm half-English and Wayne's Rooney's Three Lions were dumped out by Iceland in ignominious fashion. Ouch. That still hurts. But it was also a special time for the country Wales knocked out in the last-16 stage: Northern Ireland. It was their first and only, to date, time at The European Championship. Paul Gilmour was a firsthand bystander to the squad's exploits in qualifying and then in the tournament itself in France. He was the dedicated team reporter for Sky Sports News. It would have been a memorable assignment for any football person. But particularly poignant for Paul who hails from Northern Ireland. He wasn't born when his country qualified for the 1958 and 1982 World Cups. He was barely born when they made the World Cup in Mexico in 86. But in 2016 he was front and centre to cover a joyous time for his country. The team won only one of four games played in the tournament but made indelible memories, particularly the cacophonous singing of ‘Will Grigg is on fire!” Even though Grigg didn't get on the pitch during Euro 2016! It's a classic old school soccer story. But a very human one too. January 26, 2026 - Season 16, Episode 85 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing Super Bowl LX now being set with the New England Patriots facing the Seattle Seahawks. Steelers Team President Art Rooney II talked to Bob Labriola over the weekend about the hiring of Mike McCarthy to be the team's new head coach, so Alex and I make sure to parse all of his comments on the subject. Alex and I also discuss the Steelers' process of hiring a new head coach and whether or not it was McCarthy's job to have the moment that Mike Tomlin decided to resign. Alex and I discuss the development of the next franchise quarterback being the primary focus now and whether we'll see QB Aaron Rodgers back in Pittsburgh in 2026. We discuss whether the Steelers could possibly look at acquiring a quarterback such as Mac Jones or Malik Willis by this year's draft in hopes of turning either into the NFL's next Sam Darnold. Former Steelers OC Arthur Smith will be the next offensive coordinator for Ohio State so that bit of news gets our attention during this show. Alex and I also further discuss what the Steelers rebuilt coaching staff could look like with McCarthy now installed as the team's new head coach. Later in this Monday show, Alex and I discuss whether McCarthy should be considered the top head coach in the AFC North division at this point and even with the Cleveland Browns yet to hire their next head coach. Evan and Tiki react to the Steelers making a stunning pivot, hiring Mike McCarthy and ending the franchise's decades-long tradition of young, defensive-minded lifers. They debate what it means for the Rooney family, whether this signals a new era in coaching philosophy, and how the quarterback dominoes could lead to Aaron Rodgers following the Favre script to Minnesota. Then the show takes a hard turn into pure insanity as the Pro Bowl somehow adds Shedeur Sanders, sparking a rant about how meaningless the “Pro Bowler” label has become. Calls roll in on officiating, the need for tech like a chipped football, and why the NFL never adjusts kickoff times even when weather is predictable. Evan also hits a quick baseball note with Harrison Bader landing in San Francisco, before the hour closes with a full Jets fan meltdown, a Mike McCarthy hiring regret spiral, and the ultimate coping mechanism: the only explanation is that God is a Patriots fan. Plus, a last-second cameo from the Roberts household to cap it all off.

Welcome Back to the Gridiron: Hips, Heists, and the King in the North Tarlin Ray is officially back on the other side of major surgery. Seven days after a total hip replacement, he moved from a walker to a cane, and now he is trading the PT exercises for the hottest NFL takes of the 2026 postseason. In this episode of Running It Back, Mike Palmer and Tarlin Ray dive deep into the divisional round, debating the "That's My Quarterback" draft and dissecting the chaotic coaching carousel currently spinning out of control. From the "no asshole policy" in front offices to whether Sam Darnold is a reclamation project or a playoff ghost, the guys look past the box scores to find the real stories. They discuss why Tennessee might be the most attractive job in the league and whether Caleb Williams is the future of Chicago or a fantasy football headache. Plus, Tarlin shares the humbling reality of relying on caregivers and why it took him ten days to finally get in the shower. Get ready for sharp analysis, a little modern medicine appreciation, and a lot of intellectual honesty. That's My Quarterback! NFL Divisional Playoffs Mike and Tarlin kick things off with the "Ethics Bowl" QB Draft where Tarlin bets on the cajones of CJ Stroud while Mike counters with the "twinkle toes" and scampering ability of Drake May. They move to the "King in the North" matchup, debating if Josh Allen is still America's man-crush or if Bo Nix is ready to fly high at Mile High. The conversation shifts to the Rams and Bears as they weigh the veteran poise of Matthew Stafford against the rising Gen Z energy of Caleb Williams. Finally, they wrap up the games by looking at Sam Darnold's history of "seeing ghosts" versus the underdog story of Brock Purdy, the 262nd pick in the draft. Coaching Carousel The second half of the show tackles the coaching carousel, starting with the massive $20 million culture-building hire of John Harbaugh by the New York Giants. They explore the end of the Mike Tomlin era in Pittsburgh and whether the Rooney family might make a bold statement by hiring Brian Flores. They also analyze the curious case of Mike McDaniel, who looks less like a biology teacher and more like a character from Breaking Bad these days. The episode concludes with professional lessons on when to take the CEO jump and when to stay in "grooming" mode, using the career moves of Ben Johnson and Dante Moore as a guide. January 14, 2026 - Season 16, Episode 79 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday afternoon episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing everything that Pittsburgh Steelers team president Art Rooney II had to say during his afternoon press conference. We discuss what Rooney said about former HC Mike Tomlin deciding to step down on Tuesday and what the immediate future seems to hold for him. We also discuss the possibility of the Steelers trading Tomlin at some point. We also go over what Rooney said about the search for a new Steelers head coach, and everything related to what he might be looking for as part of said search. Alex and I go over some things related to head coach candidates and the side of the football they specialize in as it relates to the Steelers head coach search. During this show, Oregon QB Dante Moore officially announced that he is returning to college for another year, so Alex and I discuss that news. We also discuss what that means to the 2026 draft class right now. Throughout this show we receive the news that the Steelers have already requested five interviews with head coach candidates. We go over each of them, Nate Scheelhaase, Chris Shula, Anthony Weaver, Brian Flores, and Jesse Minter. Alex and I also go over several other head coach candidates for Steelers that are quite easy to link the team to. We talk about young and old candidates, retreads, and even a few current college head coaches throughout this show. The Steelers are starting to sign a few players to Reserve/Future contracts, so Alex and I update that current list as well. This 84-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted above and we close things out by answering a few emails we have received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices.
