In this episode of Dimensions of Diversity, host Lloyd Freeman welcomes the newly minted Dr. Ky'a Jackson, to discuss her doctoral research which focused on the academic resilience of African-American female college students from Camden, New Jersey. Dr. Jackson explains how the intersection of race, gender, and place shaped the students' experiences, drawing heavily on her own background growing up in Camden.Lloyd and Dr. Jackson discuss the societal and personal pressures these young women face, the critical role of "golden nuggets" of support from their community, and the specific strategies they employ to persevere. She introduces two memorable frameworks: the "Four Cs" (Color, Carat, Clarity, Cut) to describe the pressures that shaped these students, and the "SHINE" acronym (Stability, Help, Investment, Nurturing, Empathy) as a guide for others to support them effectively.Dimensions of Diversity is a podcast created by Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, highlighting diversity in the workplace. January 26, 2026 - Season 16, Episode 85 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing Super Bowl LX now being set with the New England Patriots facing the Seattle Seahawks. Steelers Team President Art Rooney II talked to Bob Labriola over the weekend about the hiring of Mike McCarthy to be the team's new head coach, so Alex and I make sure to parse all of his comments on the subject. Alex and I also discuss the Steelers' process of hiring a new head coach and whether or not it was McCarthy's job to have the moment that Mike Tomlin decided to resign. Alex and I discuss the development of the next franchise quarterback being the primary focus now and whether we'll see QB Aaron Rodgers back in Pittsburgh in 2026. We discuss whether the Steelers could possibly look at acquiring a quarterback such as Mac Jones or Malik Willis by this year's draft in hopes of turning either into the NFL's next Sam Darnold. Former Steelers OC Arthur Smith will be the next offensive coordinator for Ohio State so that bit of news gets our attention during this show. Alex and I also further discuss what the Steelers rebuilt coaching staff could look like with McCarthy now installed as the team's new head coach. Later in this Monday show, Alex and I discuss whether McCarthy should be considered the top head coach in the AFC North division at this point and even with the Cleveland Browns yet to hire their next head coach. This 80-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the above recap and we make sure to read and answer several emails we have received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Evan and Tiki react to the Steelers making a stunning pivot, hiring Mike McCarthy and ending the franchise's decades-long tradition of young, defensive-minded lifers. They debate what it means for the Rooney family, whether this signals a new era in coaching philosophy, and how the quarterback dominoes could lead to Aaron Rodgers following the Favre script to Minnesota. Then the show takes a hard turn into pure insanity as the Pro Bowl somehow adds Shedeur Sanders, sparking a rant about how meaningless the “Pro Bowler” label has become. Calls roll in on officiating, the need for tech like a chipped football, and why the NFL never adjusts kickoff times even when weather is predictable. Evan also hits a quick baseball note with Harrison Bader landing in San Francisco, before the hour closes with a full Jets fan meltdown, a Mike McCarthy hiring regret spiral, and the ultimate coping mechanism: the only explanation is that God is a Patriots fan. Plus, a last-second cameo from the Roberts household to cap it all off.

"Turn out the lights, the party's over,They say that all good things must end,Call it a night, the party's over,And tomorrow starts the same old thing again."Former Dallas QB and broadcaster Don Meredith made this Willie Nelson song famous as he used to sing this on the broadcast once a team had an insurmountable lead or the game was well in hand.  Unfortunately, it's a tune that Pittsburgh Steelers fans seem all too familiar with as team suffered another embarrassing loss to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round.  Then less than 24 hours later, Mike Tomlin stepped down as the Steelers head coach and sent Steeler Nation into a frenzy of who would be the next head coach of this storied franchise. Fast forward to today, multiple sources have confirmed that former head coach Mike McCarthy would be new head man of the Steelers.  Join your hosts Jeremy Kohlman, Wil Masisak, and Korey Karbowsky as they discuss what hiring McCarthy means for the franchise and its future as next era of Pittsburgh Steelers football begins.

Seven days after a total hip replacement, he moved from a walker to a cane, and now he is trading the PT exercises for the hottest NFL takes of the 2026 postseason. In this episode of Running It Back, Mike Palmer and Tarlin Ray dive deep into the divisional round, debating the "That's My Quarterback" draft and dissecting the chaotic coaching carousel currently spinning out of control. From the "no asshole policy" in front offices to whether Sam Darnold is a reclamation project or a playoff ghost, the guys look past the box scores to find the real stories. They discuss why Tennessee might be the most attractive job in the league and whether Caleb Williams is the future of Chicago or a fantasy football headache. Plus, Tarlin shares the humbling reality of relying on caregivers and why it took him ten days to finally get in the shower. Get ready for sharp analysis, a little modern medicine appreciation, and a lot of intellectual honesty. That's My Quarterback! NFL Divisional Playoffs Mike and Tarlin kick things off with the "Ethics Bowl" QB Draft where Tarlin bets on the cajones of CJ Stroud while Mike counters with the "twinkle toes" and scampering ability of Drake May. They move to the "King in the North" matchup, debating if Josh Allen is still America's man-crush or if Bo Nix is ready to fly high at Mile High. The conversation shifts to the Rams and Bears as they weigh the veteran poise of Matthew Stafford against the rising Gen Z energy of Caleb Williams. Finally, they wrap up the games by looking at Sam Darnold's history of "seeing ghosts" versus the underdog story of Brock Purdy, the 262nd pick in the draft. Coaching Carousel The second half of the show tackles the coaching carousel, starting with the massive $20 million culture-building hire of John Harbaugh by the New York Giants. They explore the end of the Mike Tomlin era in Pittsburgh and whether the Rooney family might make a bold statement by hiring Brian Flores. They also analyze the curious case of Mike McDaniel, who looks less like a biology teacher and more like a character from Breaking Bad these days. The episode concludes with professional lessons on when to take the CEO jump and when to stay in "grooming" mode, using the career moves of Ben Johnson and Dante Moore as a guide. Mike Tomlin said that the Steelers did not play poorly, even though they failed to score a touchdown and lost to a 3-12 team. Poni thinks that Tomlin saying this is a borderline fireable offense. Should he have taken more accountability after the loss? Do you think that Mike Tomlin watched any of the Bears-49ers game and thought that he was watching a different sport? Calls. Recruitment Agency Growth: How to Go from Contingent to 10 Retained Searches, with Matt Rooney

For years, Matt Rooney did what a lot of capable recruiters do. He stayed busy. Took the work that came in. Said yes more often than he should have. Inside private equity, that turned him into what he later called a "utility recruiter". Useful, but reactive. Some years were strong. Others weren't. And it never quite felt like a real partnership with clients. Two decisions changed the direction of his business. Matt narrowed his focus to one role inside private equity: business development and deal origination. Then he made the shift from contingent to retained. Today, Matt is the founder of Coastal Partners. He's gone from closing 3–4 retained searches in his first year as a specialist to being on track for 10 retained searches this year, with the majority of his work now retained. In this episode of The Resilient Recruiter, Matt breaks down what actually made that transition possible. Not theory. Not scripts. Real decisions, real resistance, and what changed once clients started committing up front. This conversation is especially relevant if you run a recruitment agency, lead a small firm, or feel stuck in feast-or-famine despite working hard. What you'll learn: Why being a "utility recruiter" keeps agencies reactive What changed when Matt stopped taking every job How he handled the "no retained experience" objection Why specialisation built confidence and credibility fast How original market data helped him become a trusted partner Why predictability mattered more than volume Episode timestamps: [00:33] Why does contingent feel reactive [03:02] How Matt fell into recruitment [07:11] Feeling stuck as a utility recruiter [12:44] Resisting the idea of niching down [15:18] Why specialisation changed client relationships [19:03] Making the move to retained [20:39] First retained searches and predictability [27:40] Mapping the market and building authority [34:16] Publishing hiring reports and compensation data [35:25] Launching the Deal Sourcery podcast [50:31] Hosting a live panel at a PE conference [55:56] Why Matt would specialise sooner Guest bio: Matt Rooney is the founder of Coastal Partners and specialises exclusively in business development and deal origination roles within private equity. After nearly a decade recruiting across PE functions, Matt made the decision to focus on one specialty. In his first year as a retained specialist, he closed 3-4 retained searches. This year, he's on track to close 10, with the majority of his business now retained. Matt has become a recognised authority in his niche through original market research, publishing quarterly BD hiring reports and an annual compensation survey.
