One-Sided Love: How to Fight for Your Marriage When Your Spouse Won't Ep. 695

Nancy and I are back together to discuss a topic that frequently shows up in our inbox: one-sided marriages. These are spouses who reach out because, even in the midst of disconnect and hurt, they still desire a healthy, God-honoring marriage, but feel like they're the only one who cares or the only one willing to put in the work. How do you reconcile and reconnect? That's the focus of our conversation today. I'm praying this episode encourages those who feel alone and offers hope and next steps for fighting for your marriage.   Episode Highlights: Love like Christ without enabling. Communicate with curiosity, not accusation. Persevere in prayer and faithful action. Seek God's glory above all else   Quotes from Today's Episode: Fighting for your marriage as a Christian means pursuing Christ-like love even when it's not reciprocated This isn't about becoming a doormat or enabling destructive behavior, but rather embodying the gospel in your relationship. Approach with curiosity rather than accusation: "I've noticed you seem really tired lately. How can I support you?"  Continue showing love through actions without demanding emotional reciprocation. Don't take the bait to defend yourself constantly or prove your spouse wrong—this keeps you stuck in an unhealthy cycle. But remember, you can't force insight or repentance—that's between them and God. Humility doesn't mean accepting mistreatment or pretending everything is fine. Your humble confidence in who God created you to be can actually challenge your spouse to rise up rather than settle. Standing in the gap means interceding in prayer, maintaining hope when your spouse has lost it, and continuing to live out your marriage vows even when they're not. The goal is always God's glory and following His heart, which deeply desires reconciliation.  Couples' Conversation Guide: How connected do you feel to your spouse on a scale of 1-10? Do you feel like you are trying to shoulder the burden of your marriage alone? Are there unhealthy patterns in your marriage that need to be addressed?  Are there areas of your marriage that you've settled for mediocrity or disconnect?    Mentioned in this Episode: Find Awesome Marriage on Instagram! What if the key to standing out in a crowded online health and fitness industry isn't some flashy new marketing trick, but a deeper understanding of who you actually help and why they should work with you? Today I'm joined by one of our standout NBA clients, Zach Lewandowski—a personal trainer turned online nutrition coach who helps high-performing professionals lose fat and build sustainable habits. Zach shares his powerful journey of rebuilding after spending $18K on the wrong coach. From broken trust to bold pivots, he opens up about the real lessons, strategies, and mindset shifts that helped him create a profitable business that actually feels good to run. If you've ever been burned by a business coach or felt stuck trying to “do it all” without the ROI you expected, this one's for you. Episode Timeline [2:24] – Zach's journey from 17-year-old personal trainer to online health coach [4:00] – The challenge of standing out in a crowded health & fitness industry [6:42] – Shifting from broad messaging to specific, client-centered language [9:23] – Why Zach stopped chasing “more content” and focused on quality over quantity [13:19] – Spotting red flags in sales conversations and protecting your coaching energy [16:24] – How the sales landscape has shifted since 2020 and what's working now [21:44] – Zach's experiences with shady mentors, lawsuits, and rebuilding trust [35:35] – Why simplifying to one high-ticket offer transformed Zach's business [43:40] – The power of retention and why Zach shifted from 9-week to 6-month programs [47:11] – Final advice for coaches navigating today's tougher online market Top 5 Quotes from This Episode “When you're educated and not chasing gimmicky buzzwords, it's tough to stand out—you have to be crystal clear on who you help and how you help them.” “I stopped trying to push out tons of content. Now I focus on being very specific and detailed, even if I'm only speaking to 100 people.” “If you try to juggle 10 different strategies, you won't be great at any of them. Simplicity always wins.” “Retention is everything. Even if you don't sign new clients for a couple months, recurring revenue keeps your business alive.” “It's going to take much longer than you think, probably double or triple the time. In this episode, I sat down with tech humanist Kate O'Neill to explore how organizations can balance human-centered design in a time when everyone is racing to find ways to leverage AI in their businesses. Kate introduced her “Now–Next Continuum,” a framework that distinguishes digital transformation (catching up) from true innovation (looking ahead). We dug into real-world challenges and tensions of moving fast vs. creating impact with AI, how ethics fits into decision making, and the role of data in making informed decisions.      Kate stressed the importance of organizations having clear purpose statements and values from the outset, proxy metrics she uses to gauge human-friendliness, and applying a “harms of action vs. harms of inaction” lens for ethical decisions. Her key point: human-centered approaches to AI and technology creation aren't slow; they create intentional structures that speed up smart choices while avoiding costly missteps.     Highlights/ Skip to: How Kate approaches discussions with executives about moving fast, but also moving in a human-centered way when building out AI solutions (1:03) Exploring the lack of technical backgrounds among many CEOs and how this shapes the way organizations make big decisions around technical solutions (3:58)  FOMO and the “Solution in Search of a Problem” problem in Data (5:18)  Why ongoing ethnographic research and direct exposure to users are essential for true innovation (11:21)  Balancing organizational purpose and human-centered tech decisions, and why a defined purpose must precede these decisions (18:09) How organizations can define, measure, operationalize, and act on ethical considerations in AI and data products (35:57) Risk management vs. strategic optimism: balancing risk reduction with embracing the art of the possible when building AI solutions (43:54) Quotes from Today's Episode "I think the ethics and the governance and all those kinds of discussions [about the implications of digital transformation] are all very big word - kind of jargon-y kinds of discussions - that are easy to think aren't important, but what they all tend to come down to is that alignment between what the business is trying to do and what the person on the other side of the business is trying to do." –Kate O'Neill     " I've often heard the term digital transformation used almost interchangeably with the term innovation. And I think that that's a grave disservice that we do to those two concepts because they're very different. Digital transformation, to me, seems as if it sits much more comfortably on the earlier side of the Now-Next Continuum. So, it's about moving the past to the present… Innovation is about standing in the present and looking to the future and thinking about the art of the possible, like you said. What could we do? What could we extract from this unstructured data (this mess of stuff that's something new and different) that could actually move us into green space, into territory that no one's doing yet? And those are two very different sets of questions. And in most organizations, they need to be happening simultaneously." –Kate O'Neill     "The reason I chose human-friendly [as a term] over human-centered partly because I wanted to be very honest about the goal and not fall back into, you know, jargony kinds of language that, you know, you and I and the folks listening probably all understand in a certain way, but the CEOs and the folks that I'm necessarily trying to get reading this book and make their decisions in a different way based on it." –Kate O'Neill     “We love coming up with new names for different things. Like whether something is “cloud,” or whether it's like, you know, “SaaS,” or all these different terms that we've come up with over the years… After spending so long working in tech, it is kind of fun to laugh at it. But it's nice that there's a real earnestness [to it]. That's sort of evergreen [laugh]. People are always trying to genuinely solve human problems, which is what I try to tap into these days, with the work that I do, is really trying to help businesses—business leaders, mostly, but a lot of those are non-tech leaders, and I think that's where this really sticks is that you get a lot of people who have ascended into CEO or other C-suite roles who don't come from a technology background.”  –Kate O'Neill     "My feeling is that if you're not regularly doing ethnographic research and having a lot of exposure time directly to customers, you're doomed. The people—the makers—have to be exposed to the users and stakeholders.  There has to be ongoing work in this space; it can't just be about defining project requirements and then disappearing. However, I don't see a lot of data teams and AI teams that have non-technical research going on where they're regularly spending time with end users or customers such that they could even imagine what the art of the possible could be.” –Brian T. Change is on the horizon! Beginning next week, I will be releasing 3 episodes per week - one on Monday, Wednesday, & Friday. The episodes will be a little shorter in length (probably), but they will come to you more often. My goal is to create episodes in the 5-10 minute range, cut down to one or two quotes per episode, and create more of a "short, but sweet" type of show. Yes, I will still discuss the quotes a bit, but I will zero in on the key points and main focus of each quote.Eventually, I may end up moving to 5 or even 7 days a week, but for now, you will hear this show three times a week. I am excited about the new format, and I hope you are, too. Please spread the word about the show to anyone you know who you think might be interested! For more information to help you on your road to becoming your best, check us out at SlamDunkSuccess.com or email me at scott@slamdunksuccess.com.As always, our background music is "Dance in the Sun" by Krisztian Vass.

Mattias, a Stockholm-based engineer and long-time leader of the Stockholm Java User Group, shares his journey with Java, from its early days to its current role in modern tech ecosystems. He also talks about the evolution of Jfokus, a leading annual Java conference he organizes, which has grown from a small Java user group into a major gathering of over 2,000 developers from diverse backgrounds around the world.  Mattias highlights Java's enduring appeal, driven by its robust JVM, backward compatibility, and vibrant community. He also reflects on the six-month release cycle, calling it “brilliant” for its balance of stability and innovation, and shares insights on mentoring young developers and using AI to stay updated. When talking about how students learning programming will inevitably encounter Java due to its widespread use in the industry, Mattias said, “Sooner or later they will end up with Java anyway.”  Finally, the episode underscores the unique culture of the Java community and Jfokus as a conference for its blending of culture, professionalism, and a welcoming atmosphere. The details surrounding this incident have raised eyebrows and led to numerous conspiracy theories, prompting us to delve deeper into the implications of this event. As we break down the details of the shooting, we examine the peculiarities of the event itself. How could a sniper take a clean shot in a crowd of 3,000 attendees? Why were there so few eyewitness accounts or videos from the scene? In this short segment of the Revenue Builders Podcast, John McMahon and John Kaplan dive deep into one of the most important and most overlooked drivers of organizational growth: the roles of first and second line managers. Joined by Scott Rudy, CRO at Zywave, the conversation unpacks why these leadership levels are vital to sales success, where companies often blur responsibilities, and how to build accountability into leadership structures. From recruiting to development plans, and from forecasting to coaching, this discussion provides practical insights for CROs, VPs, and leaders who want to strengthen their sales engine and avoid costly missteps.KEY TAKEAWAYS[00:00:22] First line managers are the backbone of seller success but face high pressure with new responsibilities like recruiting, training, and forecasting.[00:02:02] Second line leaders should not act as duplicate first line managers; their true role is coaching, simplifying, and plugging gaps for new managers.[00:02:58] Proper segregation of duties—development plans, recruiting involvement, and quality checks—prevents confusion and duplication.[00:03:56] A sales organization's growth is often constrained by ineffective execution at the first line manager level.[00:04:53] Accountability must extend to both first and second line managers, ensuring clarity in responsibilities.[00:06:13] CROs should hold second line managers accountable for development plans and rep performance, not just first line leaders.[00:07:27] Recruiting should be a joint process—first line managers drive it, second line managers coach and validate decisions.[00:08:12] Second line leaders focus on quality, spotting blind spots, and identifying trends in recruiting and management.QUOTES[00:00:49] “Seller success should be the number one objective and North Star for a first line leader.”[00:02:02] “A great second line leader plugs the holes of a new first line leader by coaching and simplifying the job.”[00:02:58] “Segregating responsibilities prevents first and second line leaders from duplicating efforts and confusing reps.”[00:03:56] “One of the biggest obstacles for success is the execution of a first line manager.”[00:06:31] “If I'm the CRO, I'm asking the second line manager first about a rep's performance and development plan.”[00:08:00] “The second line leader ought to focus on quality—spotting trends and blind spots the first line leader may miss.”Listen to the full conversation through the link below.https://revenue-builders.simplecast.com/episodes/the-critical-role-of-sales-managers-in-driving-growth-with-scott-rudyEnjoying the podcast?
