Episode Summary: Is "being yourself" actually holding you back? In this episode, we tackle the toxic side of authenticity. While it's good to be true to yourself, using "this is just who I am" as an excuse to avoid growth is a trap. We discuss how to balance self-acceptance with "inspirational dissatisfaction" the drive to be better tomorrow than you are today. We break down how to fire your bad habits, create a mental "Avatar" for success (featuring a mix of Mr. Rogers and Ric Flair), and use physical triggers to flip the switch on high performance. Key Takeaways & Action Steps: The Authenticity Trap: If you aren't improving, you are dying. "Self-improvement" requires you to acknowledge that your current self isn't the final version. Step 1: Audit Your Default Settings: Identity vs. Behavior: Stop saying "I am a procrastinator." You are a person who has the habit of procrastinating. Separate the person from the action so you can fix it. The Pink Slip: Identify the specific behaviors that are hurting your results (like the "Kill the Joe" coffee example) and mentally fire them. Write It Down: Do not try to improve your life by memory. If you want to change a default setting, you must document it. Step 2: Select Your Model (The Avatar): The Hybrid Approach: You don't need to agree with 100% of a person to model them. Create an Avatar that combines the best traits of different people (e.g., the caring nature of Mr. Rogers + the energy of Ric Flair). The Magic Question: When stuck, ask: "How would my Avatar handle this situation?" Practice, Don't Pretend: Shift your mindset from "faking it" to "rehearsing it." You are drilling a new skill, just like in a dojo. Step 3: Develop a Physical Trigger: The Anchor: Choose a physical object or action (snapping a rubber band, putting on a hat, the click of a headphone case) that signals to your brain it is time to perform. Protect the Trigger: Never dilute your trigger. If your "hype song" is for working out, don't listen to it while relaxing on the couch. Keep the neural pathway clean. Quotes from the Episode: "If you're not improving yourself, you actually aren't standing still. You're dying slowly." "Don't try to improve your life by memory. It's the absolute weight of failure." "Procrastination is a behavior. It's not an identity." "What would Mr. Rogers do? He would care. What would Ric Flair do? He would WOO!" Action Plan: 1. Write the Pink Slip: Identify 3 habits to "fire" today. 2. Build Your Avatar: Pick 2-3 role models and merge their best traits. 3. Set Your Trigger: Pick one physical action to start your work block and do it every single time. Who's ready for a great show this week?! I'm so fired up--the kids are home, Christmas is in the air, and today's episode is all about designing your most epic year yet — 2026. This is Part 2 of our Annual Strategic Planning Series. Last week we reflected on 2025. This week, we look forward to 2026 and make a decision about who we are becoming, what we are creating, and how we will achieve maximum success and fulfillment. In this episode, I walk you through: How to intentionally design 2026, instead of letting it happen by accident. Why choosing your ONE WORD for the year is a non-negotiable. The shift from what you need to do to who you must become. How raising your daily standards changes everything. We also talk about how I'm personally structuring my year and why fewer, clearer priorities lead to more focus and fulfillment. We dive into practical frameworks, including: Creating daily non-negotiables, as winners don't negotiate with themselves. Building a calendar that reflects your true priorities. Avoiding and eliminating energy leaks and distractions that drain your momentum. Upgrading your environment, your inputs, and the people around you. Installing weekly and quarterly review systems so you fall to your systems, not your excuses. Lastly, I want to challenge you with "10" powerful questions that will frame your entire 2026 year, including: What would a 10-out-of-10 year in 2026 look like? Who must I become to deserve the life I say I want? What habits must be installed, eliminated, or reinforced? What am I willing to say 'no' to so I can say 'yes' to living my best life? Where do I need more discipline—and where do I need more grace? What would my future-self thank me for if I started this habit or action-step today? This episode is a coaching session, a mindset reset, and a call to action as we head into the holidays. Let's be sure to slow down. Breathe. Relax. Pray on your vision. And commit to designing your 2026 year with deep purpose and conviction. If this episode hit home, please share it with a friend, teammate, or family member. For our final episode of the year, Laurent jumped onto the Wolfe Power podcast, where he and host Alex Wolfe took a no-nonsense tour through the big energy moments that shaped 2025. Deals of the Year: The spectacular offshore wind meltdown in the US — Orsted's year of pain — contrasted with the blazing global boom in battery deployment all over the world, up a staggering 50% year-on-year.The AI & Datacenter Surge: An extraordinary rise… but how much of it is grounded in facts, and how much is built on faith?Scandals & Disgraces: From the SMR pump-and-dump circus to Venture Global's LNG “ghosts ships,” and of course the Tony Blair report debacle — 2025 delivered drama.Innovations That Actually Mattered: V2G is born thanks to Octopus and BYD and ever larger LFP form factors are reshaping storage — real progress amid the noise.Quotes of the Year: A remarkable harvest of sharp insights capturing the zeitgeist… and, inevitably, a mountain of nonsense worth calling out.To all our listeners: Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and thank you for riding through 2025 with us.We'll be back in early January with our Predictions episode — always a very popular one.
If you've ever ended the day completely wiped out and thought, "Why am I this tired? I didn't even do anything that big…" — hi. Same. And this episode is for you. In Week 4 of our Best Lessons of the Year countdown, we're revisiting two of my favorite conversations because they speak to a very real modern experience: carrying a thousand invisible things… and then wondering why your nervous system feels like it's running a marathon in jeans. First, we dip back into my Solo Cast on the invisible mental load — that constant background hum of remembering, planning, worrying, organizing, anticipating, and basically being the "tabs open in your brain" person. Then, we revisit my conversation with Jordan Arogeti (co-founder of Support Now) to talk about Support Languages — a framework that helps us understand how we give support, how we receive it, how to read the room, and how to repair when we didn't show up the way we wish we had. So if you're listening while wrapping gifts, doing dishes, working out, or hiding in the car for five minutes of peace… welcome. You're in the right place. In this episode, you'll hear: Why the invisible mental load is exhausting even when your calendar "doesn't look that full" A tiny practice that helps an anxious brain actually tolerate stillness (yes, even for one minute) How your body often says "no" before your mouth does What Support Languages are (and why support isn't one-size-fits-all) The lost art of reading the room (and remembering you're not the main character in every chapter

Christopher S Mahan is a transformational speaker, family coach, and result-driven mentor who has spent over a decade empowering parents, teens, and young adults to break cycles of dysfunction and build thriving, resilient families. As the creator of the “Empowerment to Employment” app, author of "Parental Leadership: Seven Principles to Lead Your Teen in the Digital Age," and host of the "Lead Your Teen" podcast, Christopher brings deep experience in leadership, parent-child dynamics, and personal development. His work has directly impacted thousands, providing tools and strategies to overcome adversity and find purpose. In this episode of Marketer of the Day, Christopher joins Robert Plank to share his powerful journey—from recognizing alarming spikes in teen suicides in his Florida county to building a movement around parental leadership and family empowerment. Christopher reveals how his early struggles and career pivots fueled his mission, the challenges of getting essential messages into schools and communities, and the transformation that comes from facing fear, developing soft skills, and putting passion into action. Discussion topics include leadership versus parenting, breaking out of old patterns, the impact of technology on youth, resilience, personal responsibility, and how families can cultivate effort, passion, and purpose (EPP) for real-world results. Quotes: "Obstacles aren't in your way to stop you—they beg the question, how badly do you want it?" "If the home is broken, society is broken, because what the home puts out is a reflection of that home." "Preparation is part of leadership. You have to be ready for the hard work and not look for an easy out." Resources: Connect with Christopher S Mahan on LinkedIn Get Christopher S.
