Episode 366 is up and live now with the return of my dude Cove Reber from Saosin, Dead American and now Le' Tired. Such a great dude and a master of melody and song craft. One of the most influential singers in a band that was exploded upon his entry. At 19 years old, I don't think 99% of those that wanted it could handle that. He did. A lot's going on in the world of Saosin right now. They're gearing up to release Live From The Garden Amphitheater, a live album recorded at their 2023 20th anniversary shows with both lead vocalists (Anthony Green and Cove Reber) that includes a full performance of their debut EP Translating The Name, covers (of Sunny Day Real Estate, At the Drive-In, The Smashing Pumpkins, and Blindside), and more; they have a re-recorded “Saosin's Version” of their self-titled album on the way in order to give the album a long-awaited vinyl re-release (due to rights issues with Capitol Records); they're about to go on their first tour with Cove in 14 years; and they have new music in the works. With all this going on, we caught up with founding member Beau Burchell for an hour-long, career-spanning discussion on the BrooklynVegan podcast that ranges from Beau's pre-Saosin days to the band's future plans. - The BrooklynVegan Show is brought to you in part by DistroKid, a service for musicians that allows you to easily upload your music to all major streaming platforms. Hello burny bros, this week the boys take a closer look at the self-titled debut full length album from SAOSIN aka "The Beetle Album". We discuss the history of the band and Cove Reber joins the pod to discuss his time in the studio, what it was like to join the band at 18 years old, and the importance of producer Howard Benson's role in creating this record.
For our debut episode we couldn't think of a better guest than Cove Reber of Saosin and Dead American. Cove could not have been more open with us and was also a fantastic hang!
Scary Kids Scaring Kids announced their return in 2019 with former Saosin frontman Cove Reber on vocals as Tyson Stevens had tragically passed away from a suspected heroin overdose in 2014. This year, Scary Kids Scaring Kids will release their first full length record in 15 years. Taking a unique approach to the construction of the album, each track features a different vocalist as a tribute to Stevens. Scary Kids Scaring Kids are emo darlings, forever a respected peer within the scene and a band who never truly reached their potential, despite showing so much. From keyboard-driven bangers like My Darkest Hour to piano-ballads like Watch Me Bleed, and every post-hardcore gem inbetween, Scary Kids always entertained and enthralled. After Anthony Green left Saosin, Cove Reber sent the band an acoustic demo of some of their earlier songs. It is claimed that the band initially thought the demo was Anthony Green playing a trick on them as Reber's vocal sound in the demo was so similar to Green's. At just 19 years old, Cove Reber would become the new frontman of Saosin. With the release of their debut full length in 2006, Saosin pushed their sound to a new level with their signature intricate drums, layered delayed guitars, exceptional vocal melody and pristine vocal harmonies. Though the debate still rages amongst fans about which era of Saosin is superior, Beetle as the record is affectionately known has its own adoring legion of fans and is one of the most perfectly produced records in all of screamo. In this episode, I talk with my long-time friend and musician/producer extraordinaire about his favorite record of all time! We talk about Saosin's debut full length. We discuss what led to the genre-defining album as well as Saosin in their early stages with Anthony Green. We talk about how Cove Reber had some big shoes to fill, and how he surpassed expectations with this opus of an album. We also talk about what Kyle has going on with his band What A Wreck, and his most recent production effort with the band The Way Way Back. Enjoy! Saosin, also known as “the beetle album”, is the debut full-length, self-titled studio album by American rock band Saosin, released September 26, 2006 through Capitol Records. It is the band's second release to feature lead vocalist Cove Reber. The album is best known for its lead riffs with delays and natural harmonics as a form of creating melodies. The guitar riffs on the album were listed on Alternative Press's "Best Guitar Riffs of 2000s Rock." The first single, "Voices" was listed on the Top 46 post-hardcore songs of the 2000s, and the second single, "You're Not Alone" was listed on the Top 10 Essential Emo Power Ballads by the Alternative Press. A limited edition version of the album was also released and included a behind the scenes look into the making of the album as well as music videos of "Bury Your Head" (Saosin EP version) and "Lost Symphonies" (a song first included on the 2003 Translating the Name EP). The album has currently sold an estimated 800,000 copies worldwide LET'S CONNECT: Kyle's Instagram Kyle's Facebook Email: Kyledevlinfitness@gmail.com
