His life story inspired the Oscar-winning movie The Blind Side. He played college football at the University of Mississippi. In 2009, the Baltimore Ravens drafted Oher in the first round. He played for the Ravens for five seasons and was a member of the team that won Super Bowl XLVII. He also played for the Tennessee Titans and Carolina Panthers.Oher's life was the subject of Michael Lewis' 2006 book, The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game. The book was adapted into the 2009 film The Blind Side. The book was adapted.Oher has said that the film negatively impacted his career. He told ESPN that people make assumptions about him based on how he was portrayed in the film. I watched the interview and he says Oher has also written two books. He has four children with his wife, Tiffany Roy.What is going on with Michael Oher?In February 2023, Oher discovered that he was never legally adopted by Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy. He claims that he was tricked into entering a conservatorship after his 18th birthday. The conservatorship gave the Tuohys legal authority over his business deals. Oher alleges that the Tuohys made millions from the story. The Blindside Blues band just dropped their sixteenth album titled “XVI" via Jib Machine Records. Mike and the band just returned from their September tour in Poland, and he tells us how American Blues music connects with people all over the world. He also shares the importance music has had in his life. When I first heard Mike sing, I thought it was Jack Bruce from Cream. Mike Onesko soulful voice is the heart of the Blindside Blues Band sound.   Mike was discovered in the clubs of Martin County, California by Shrapnel records president Mike Varney. Shortly after, Onesko formed the Blindside Blues Band with Scott Johnson on guitar, Gregg Chaisson on bass guitar and, Racer X frontman and Badlands drummer, Jeff Martin on drums. The band put out three records with this lineup. Although Gregg played on the records he never did any live shows with the band. That duty was filled admirably by Kier Staeheli. The last Shrapnel lineup for the Blindside Blues Band was Mike Onesko, Mike Varney, Aysnley Dunbar, James Lomenzo. Onesko went on to Comet Records in Italy to record many records such as "Mike Onesko's Guitar Army", "Smokehouse Sessions", "Live At The Torrita Blues Festival, Italy", as well as "Voodoo Crossing" and "Gypsy Blood" (both Jimi Hendrix tributes). mikeonesko.com

Author Michael Lewis joins Jen Taub today to talk about Going Infinite: The Rise and Fall of a New Tycoon, his new book that focuses on Sam Bankman-Fried, the crypto-wunderkind who is now on trial on federal criminal charges including wire fraud, securities fraud, commodities fraud, and money laundering.  Though Michael needs no introduction, here's one anyway. You know Michael from his numerous bestselling works of narrative nonfiction. You may in fact be someone like John Williams of the New York Times book review who wrote: “I would read an 800-page history of the stapler if he wrote it.”  I'm certain that I would as well, and not just because my preliminary research of the stapler shows that there is some controversy as to its origins. But, I digress. Michael Lewis may be best known for his follow-the-money books. These include his debut work  Liar's Poker about binge-eating bond traders on Wall Street in the 1980s, as well as The Big Short published in 2010, about a scrappy selection of investors who saw that the toxic-mortgage-linked securities bubble was about to burst and made billions on their related trades. Several of Michael's books have been made into feature films including the Big Short, directed by Adam McKay; Moneyball, and The Blind Side. Beyond his story-telling excellence, what makes Michael's work so compellihg are the unexpected discoveries about the fragility of our government infrastructure such as with the Fifth Risk and his ability to make us think in a more nuanced way about high-profile topics, including his already controversial take on SBF. Jen and Michael Lewis talk about indicted crypto-wunderkind Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF).  In their discussion they contemplated whether SBF ran his businesses like an absent-minded parent setting up an Easter Egg hunt without making note of how many and where the eggs were. In the filing to terminate the conservatorship, he alleged that the Thouy family misled him for their own gain in portraying him as their adopted son. He asks for an accounting and has started seeking subpoenas to discover what was in the 20th Century Fox agreement signed over The Blindside and a subpoena to CAA, the agency which Oher alleges negotiated the movie contract on the Thouy families' behalf. Shortly after Ohers court filing the Thouy family, through their lawyer, put out a statement refuting the allegations and alleging that Oher was demanding $15 Million from them in order not to place negative stories in the press against him. The Thouy family responded in court on September 14, 2023, arguing that the conservatorship may be terminated and that they don't need to provide an accounting because this was only ever a conservatorship of the person; there was no estate and, therefore, no accounting. Finally, the Thouy family denies that they have signed contracts on Oher's behalf and states that the conservatorship was created only to allow Oher to consider playing football at Ole Miss without running afoul of NCAA guidance.
