One thing about this show is, I'm always looking for people to talk too. Many of the guests on here, I'm a fan of their work, and some, I stumble across via the net. And some, like this show's guest, I came across through social media. Ramon is a college student studying abroad in Buenos Aires, and he's the politics editor of Creative Loafing Charlotte. We had went back and forth for a while until we FINALLY were able to schedule some time to talk. This is kid a very sharp. I had to keep reminding myself he's only 19! He did turn the conversation on me a bit, and I wasn't 100% ready for the pivot a little over half way through, but this was a good time, good talk, the kids are gonna be alright. This week we're learning about how we learn. Under the principles of constructivism, educational psychologists believe that we learn by making connections between new information and our past experiences. You'll hear some examples of people "connecting the dots" over the course of the last century, including: - Patricia Resick, creator of Cognitive Processing Therapy - Carl Sandburg, poet - The inventors of the electrostatic detection apparatus (ESDA) and those forensic professionals who use it in their work - Felix Gonzalez-Torres, artist Please be sure to get in touch with your own examples of connecting the dots! He’s also the managing editor and co-founder of Triad City Beat, a well-known, weekly newspaper where he also serves as the outlet’s food and drink writer. His work can be see in the New York Post, Our State magazine, Creative Loafing Charlotte, and more. I'll admit this Crizzlecast isn't one of the better-recorded ones I've done. First off, I did it at the Dunkin' Donuts next to the strip club again. Secondly, there were some loud-ass old people who apparently wanted to make it known this is THEIR Dunkin' Donuts and felt the need to talk as loud as they possibly could. (Unfortunately, I wasn't drunk, so I didn't tell them to shut their asses up!) Nevertheless, I managed to have a nice convo with Corbie Hill, contributing writer to the Independent Weekly, Creative Loafing Charlotte and other publications as well as guitarist for the band Alpha Cop. We talk about how he juggles writing about music with doing music, along with being a family man. But, bottom line, I'm not doing a podcast over at that Dunkin' Donuts next to the strip club again.
