Aunties on Air Episode 26: Celebrating May & Leaning into JuneWe have many things to honor during the month of May. During this episode we will journey through a few different topic areas. The month of May, when we celebrate our mothers, those that give so much love and care. We bring both Auntie Lisa and Auntie Lauren's mothers to the studio where we celebrate them and we celebrate the gifts they received from their mothers. Honoring moms today and always. The Aunties also lean into June, the month where Pride is celebrated! The joy June brings and our love for our GLBTQ+ relatives is strong. With Pride celebrations right around the corner, we talk to our friend Jayson Hunt, known as Guncle Jayson! Our friend shares the importance of Pride and stories you must hear. The Aunties begin the pod episode with a returning guest, Maulian Bryant. Maulian highlights the beginning of May, where we honor our Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW). May 5th each year we honor our women and other relatives who have gone missing (taken) or who have been murdered. Interviews by Brainard Carey

Alan Bray was born in Waterville, Maine, and grew up in Monson, a small slate-quarrying town set in the northern reaches of the Appalachians. Bray attended the Art Institute of Boston before graduating from the University of Southern Maine; he received his MFA in painting from the Villa Schifanoia in Florence, Italy. It was during this formative time in Florence that he was exposed to casein tempera on panel. Bray's work has been the subject of no less than 25 solo exhibitions and is included in the public collections of the Portland Museum of Art, ME; DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, MA; the Farnsworth Museum of Art, ME; Arnot Art Museum, Elmira, NY; Zillman Art Museum, ME; Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, WI; Lyman Allyn Museum of Arts, New London, CT;  Maine Savings Bank Collection, Memphis Cancer Center, Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts, Menlo Park, CA; among others. The artist lives and works in Sangerville, Maine. As both a naturalist and a painter, Bray is drawn to what often goes unnoticed. “I paint what is right around me,” he says. “Occasionally it's a big subject, but more often it's a bird's nest or a farm pond.” Like the subtle geometry of his compositions, Bray's preference for modest, unassuming subjects—backwater meanders over mountaintop vistas—is deliberate and quietly profound. He has become an expert observer of bogs and shorelines, rock slides and fallow fields, daybreaks and dusks, the shifting edges of seasons. In the overlooked landscapes of his native Maine, Bray uncovers a deep sense of spirituality that gives his work its quiet power—transformative in its presence, not merely descriptive. Bray paints in casein, a milk-based tempera that has virtually no drying time. Necessarily, his paintings are technically complex because they consist of thousands of tiny brush strokes, built up in layers, out of which the images – the vision – advance from the foundation of a mirror-smooth, absolute void of white ground. It is a method of painting that follows directly from his method of exploring his subjects. Alan Bray, Neighbors, 2025 Casein on panel, 11 x 14 in. On the night of September 1, 2002, 35-year-old Michael Tardio and 31-year-old Christopher Monson drove to a restaurant on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, preparing to finalize a deal that could change their lives. They were meeting a man known only as Mr. Big to sell $1 million worth of jewelry, which had once belonged to Michael's girlfriend, Playboy Bunny Sandy Bentley. Hours later, a Mercedes SUV was found engulfed in flames in an upscale Studio City neighborhood. Inside, Michael and Chris were both dead—each shot multiple times in the chest. The jewelry was gone, and the fire had erased all forensic evidence. Despite years of investigation, the case remains unsolved, leaving investigators asking: Who was Mr. Big? And what really happened the night Michael and Chris were killed? 35-year-old Michael Tardio and 31-year-old Christopher Monson were last seen on the night of September 1, 2002, driving to a restaurant on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. How we See the World 2. How we See Scripture 3. How we See God Dr. Ortiz Grew up in LA and moved to Arizona with his wife and two children. He lived in Isreal and then back to New Orleans. He then left New Orleans and attended South Western Baptist Seminary and after that accepted a position as a Professor at Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. John Manson was Born in Zaire which was the Democratic Republic of the Congo from 1971 to 1997. It was a country in Central Africa. He received hi PHD from Harvard University. Dr. Lawson Younger was a math major in college and following the words of 1 John 5:13 he suddenly realized that he could have eternal life, he changed his focus to learning Latin, Greek and Hebrew. All of this helped him understand the context of how scriptures were developed. They discussed how Burial was achieved in the Old Testament of the Bible. The belief was that the flesh decayed, along with it the sins of the dead and your spirit was raised into Gods Kingdom after that. It should be noted that Jesus raised from the dead in full body since he was without sin. Each of the guest were asked to talk about how their academic discipline enriched scripture in ways that can transform our lives. A great discussion took place concerning Tihlath-Pilser5 III, King of the Neo-Assyrian Empire from 745 BC to his death in 727. His reign marked the true transition of Assyria into an empire.

Bumblebees. That was the inspiration for one of Krista's biggest shows at Cirque Du Soleil. Creativity comes to us in moments we aren't expecting. It's rarely when we're checking emails and sitting around a board table trying to force it. In this episode, Krista shared her 8 survival skills for how to stay true to yourself and your creativity in high pressure situations and big transitions. Krista's years of creativity and work in the arts has seen both. She warns us to stay away from the word “just” and how to have the courage to lean into curiosity as we navigate periods of uncertainty and transformation. Krista emphasized that a leader's ability to listen deeply—not just to others, but also to oneself—is essential for aligning values with action. We laughed together about the importance of play and rest and explored the concept of deep listening. If you're creativity is feeling low, I invite you to listen. Krista's expertise is hard earned and beautifully put. This episode was packed with unique strategies that blend clarity, courage, and curiosity. Let's lead with flexibility and joy, and remember: a little chaos can actually be your creative ally! Here's what we talked about: 04:40 The Creative Survival Kit 06:35 The impact of your self talk 09:15 Why ‘just' may be sabotaging your leadership presence 10:48 How to gain perspective you need when overwhelmed 17:58 Tips for building trust through curiosity and deep listening with your team 25:07 Tips for fostering creativity during uncertain times 30:33 How to effectively balance preparation and flexibility in leadership 35:22 Common mistakes leaders make when dealing with failure and chaos 38:16 8 big ideas to fuel your leadership Links/ Resources: The Free 99 Step: Joyosity Explorer Map will guide you to understanding the deeper purpose and story you tell yourself about your work. “More”. I am guilty of wanting to add one more sentence, one more ornament to the tree, one more side to Thanksgiving dinner. How do we know when “more” is leading us to the right thing or distracting us from what matters? This week Krista shared with us her journey through a VERY successful career and how she knew when to step back or when to add more— not more tasks but diving deeper into what's truly meaningful. Anyone who knows me knows that I want my life to be a musical, so I was so excited to sit down with Krista Monson, an award winning choreographer who spent years working with Cirque du Soleil! Krista shared her personal struggle of burnout despite a glittering career and reminded us that even the most dazzling careers have moments where we need to step back, readjust, or even try something new. Like so many leaders I've spoke with, the higher you get on the ladder, the further you get from the work that you love. We dove into what that looked like for Krista, how you can recognize the need for something different and how to navigate career transitions. Grab that favorite beverage, get comfortable, and tune in. This conversation with Krista Munson is packed with wisdom and a great reminder to stay curious and seek out joy in work! Here's what we talked about: 02:43 Who is Krista Monson? 07:28 What it feels like when work is in alignment with our values 08:32 Common mistakes leaders make when seeking fulfillment in their career 12:22 How connection leads to better work 14:26 Overcoming burnout and career transitions 17:48 How curiosity and wonder lead to more 24:00 The kind of more that we need to add Links/ Resources: The Free 99 Step: Joyosity Explorer Map will guide you to understanding the deeper purpose and story you tell yourself about your work. Because of her own story and experiences, Tamicka wrote the book Where Daddy Lives  (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CWPPQ3B9?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_dp_XVTTF66NZM3GNW3XW3VA). The Eagles lost their head coach and the entire roster turned over. Long Beach State fired Head Coach Dan Monson before the Big West Conference Tournament. Monson proceeded to lead LBSU to a tournament title and ticket to the Big Dance. Can he continue that momentum in Cheney, Washington? Head Coach Matt Logie led the Bobcats to the NCAA Tournament in his first season. Montana State returns three starters, will they compete for banners this season? Weber State added players from the portal from higher pedigree programs, have some continuity, and they have plenty of experience. Can the Wildcats win their first league title since 2016? Northern Arizona by far returns the most minutes from the previous season. Are the Lumberjacks a contender for a conference championship this season? Mac and Bieniek finish the Big Sky Conference College Basketball Preview with some takes. What are their projected standings at the end of the year? The guys also provide their Big Sky Basketball sleepers and bust predictions. Derek Monson from Sutherland Institute argues that this discrepancy not only raises important questions about the allocation of taxpayer dollars in the nomination process but also invites us to reflect on the words of the Founding Fathers regarding factions and broad-based voter participation. We need to consider how our current political systems align with the constitutional framework and if it truly reflects the will of the people while safeguarding against the undue influence of narrow interests.
